President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday assured Nigerians that despite the challenges confronting the nation at the moment, Nigeria will get to the Promised Land. The President, who participated in the first Sunday of the year service at St. Stephens Anglican Church, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, acknowledged the huge potentials in all parts of the nation. In his brief remark, President Jonathan said his administration would continue to tap into the potentials in order to move the nation forward. He expressed optimism that the nation’s future was bright, despite the bumps and challenges. He used the opportunity to thank the church and Christians for praying for the nation, acknowledging that “this period is a challenging one for the whole world”. “I thank you for your prayers, especially at this period. This is a period the world is passing through challenges. “We have a lot of potentials and I see a bright future for the country. Despite the challenges and bumps, Nigeria will move on and get to the promised land,” he said. In his earlier sermon, the officiating pastor, who is the Bishop of Ogbia Diocese, Reverend James Aye Oruwori, urged the congregation to avoid committing sin and strike a strong covenant relationship with God to be able to fight all their battles. He used the example of David and Goliath in the Bible, saying that David’s strong covenant with God gave him victory. He urged Nigerians to remain calm ahead of the upcoming general elections, pointing out that God had already taking a decision on the outcome. He said no one could alter the decision. “God has written his decision on the next election, no one can change it. He wrote the decision long ago. Election is the biggest thing we are expecting this year, we must stop exhibiting fear. We should be calm and abide by God’s decision,” he noted. Present at the service were Governor of the State, Henry Seriake Dickson, his wife, Dr Rachael Dickson, deputy governor, John Jonah, chaplain of Villa Chapel, Reverend Obiona Owuzurumba and other Presidential aides. |

This guy make sense die [quote author=dcaliph post=29481100]That is nice. May God bless the mariage. Some people would be hating, but in their mind they would wish they could marry a sweet 17. I don‘t know why we in the south hate northerners. Yesterday, it was on FB that a 16year old southerner gave birth to triplet; FB today that in the south a father chrismas was fin-ger-ing a 4 year old, a. In Benin where I base, an average 17 year old has done abortion at least once, you hear news of 70 year old sleeping with 5 year old constantly. Even bazaar news like KG pupils caught having s-x in the back of a class and in the east you would hear of a 15 year old in a baby factory. Abeg let SLS be.[/quote |

Contrary to reports peddled by NebuTAN's that GMB had no records, the Military has debunked the allegations and claimed GMB's certificates & records are in their possession. The director of public relations of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Olaleye Lajide, has dismissed reports in the Nigerian media claiming that the army could not find academic records of General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Brigadier Lajide described the reports as false. The military spokesman made the disclosure while responding to a text message from SaharaReporters seeking clarification about the status of Mr. Buhari’s records. Brigadier Lajide affirmed that the Nigerian Army is in possession of all records of serving, retired and deceased officers since its inception. He added, however, that all military officers are supposed to keep original copies of their certificates. According to him, in the event where an officer loses his or her original copy of records, the concerned officer must officially apply for copies from the army. He stated that the army responds to such requests in an expeditious manner. Brigadier Lajide told our correspondent that he was a former director of records at the Nigerian Army headquarters and had seen records of older and retired generals. He added that he was in no doubt that General Buhari’s records were intact. Brigadier Olaleye insisted that the claim in a major Nigerian newspaper, that the army could not locate Mr. Buhari’s record was untrue. |
Search teams scouring the Java Sea for the wreckage of AirAsia flight QZ8501 have found "two large objects", Indonesian officials say. Search and rescue agency chief Bambang Soelistyo said a remotely operated underwater vehicle was being lowered to take pictures. However, bad weather and heavy seas continue to hamper operations. The jet disappeared with 162 people on board while flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore last Sunday. So far 30 bodies have been recovered in the search. No survivors have been found and the main sections of the Airbus A320 have not been retrieved. Most bodies are thought to have been trapped in the plane's fuselage. 'Confident' Mr Soelistyo said on Saturday that the large objects had been detected by sonar from an Indonesian navy ship. "We found oil slicks and huge objects at 23:40 (16:40 GMT) last night. I am confident these are parts of the missing AirAsia plane that we are looking for," he said. He said the larger of the objects was 10 metres by five (32ft by 16ft) but that strong currents made operating the underwater vehicle difficult. "As I speak we are lowering an ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle) to get an actual picture of the objects detected on the sea floor. All are at the depth of 30 metres." The BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes reports from the forward operating base in Pangkalan Bun that it seems this could be the breakthrough search teams have been hoping for. A flotilla of ships, including two from the US navy, are converging on the site where the objects were located and preparing to put divers into the water. The cause of the crash is not yet known. Specialist equipment has arrived to the search for the plane's "black box" flight recorders, though officials say no signals have been picked up yet. Numbered coffins In another development, it has emerged that AirAsia did not have official permission to fly the Surabaya-Singapore route on Sunday - the day of the crash - but was licensed on four other days of the week. The Indonesian authorities are suspending the company's flights on this route with immediate effect pending an investigation, a transport ministry statement said. Officials have said the plane was travelling at 32,000ft when it requested to climb to 38,000ft to avoid bad weather. Some investigators are reported to believe that the plane may have gone into an aerodynamic stall as the pilot climbed steeply. There were 137 adult passengers, 17 children and one infant, along with two pilots and five crew, on the plane - the majority Indonesian. Four people have been identified so far: Hayati Lutfiah Hamid, Grayson Herbert Linaksita, Kevin Alexander Soetjipto and Khairunisa Haidar Fauzi . After bodies are recovered from the sea they are transported in numbered coffins for identification in Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city. AirAsia previously had an excellent safety record, with no fatal accidents involving its aircraft. m.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30664604?ocid=socialflow_twitter |
