ON THE NEW PRICING TEMPLATE FOR PMS.

If you are comparing the planned removal of
subsidy on PMS in January 2012 to the removal of
subsidy in 2016, I wish to respectfully tell you to go
back to School.
If you think N145/litre in 2012 has the same value
as N145/litre in 2016, you need to go and dust you
Basic Economics Textbook.
If you didn't know that Nigeria was earning $110.99
per barrel of Crude Oil in 2012 with its attendant
availability of Fx for Importers to bring in Products
at the rate of N150/$, you need to go and dust up
your old Newspapers.
If you didn't know that that there is extreme dearth
of Fx from CBN, which makes Importers wait for
weeks to get Fx to import the fuel you buy at the
Pump, which is why there is scarcity, you need to
pay attention to what is going on around you.
If you didn't know that Importers have been
incurring losses or just eking by to get your PMS to
you at the pump for the past months, you, you need
to be grateful a bit more.
If you didn't know that Saudi Arabia, a Country with
$627billion compared to Nigeria's $27billion, had to
remove subsidy on Petrol, Electricity and Water few
months ago, you need to read more serious News
on the Internet instead of wasting your time on
Linda Ikeji.
Yes, I opposed removal of Subsidy in 2012. As
confession, I even administered onr of the Occupied
Nigeria handles on Twitter from my desk in Onitsha.
With the information we are getting about how GEJ
Administration squandered our Commonwealth, I am
happy I opposed it. The savings from Subsidy would
have been frittered away too. A Government that
left hundreds of billion of Dollars in Short Term
Liabilities to the incoming Government but a paltry $
2.1billion in ECA, cannot be trusted to use the
savings from subsidy removal judiciously.
CAUTION
I however, wish to sound a note of caution to those
of you that think queues will disappear immediately
at the Petrol Stations.
It will not disappear, at least, in the next two weeks.
Retailers will not commit so much to purchase PMS
at Ex-Depot price because of fear that the
Government may rescind on it decision to remove
subsidy because of pressure.
Nobody wants to buy PMS at N145/litre in the
morning and be ordered to sell it at N100/litre in the
evening.
If after two weeks, the Government's decision
stands, expect supply glut at Petrol Stations.

The importers of petroleum products enjoys the official RATE of N200 to $1 but unfortunately, when there is NOT enough dollars by CBN to sell to the importers due to lower federal government revenue because of low crude oil price, what will and should government do?

FOR THE LAY MAN:

1) CBN IS THE BANKER OF ALL BANKS AND THE BANKER OF THE FGN

2) THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SELL CRUDE OIL IN DOLLARS.

3) WHEN THE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL IS HIGH, FGN MAKES MORE DOLLARS THUS HAVE MORE DOLLARS TO SELL.

4) WHEN THE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL IS LOWER, FGN MAKES LESS DOLLARS THUS HAVE LESS DOLLARS TO SELL.
(BECAUSE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL HAS BEEN VERY VERY LOW FOR OVER 18 MONTHS NOW IS WHY GOVERNMENT STOP SELLING DOLLARS TO BUREAU DE CHANGE AND ALSO BANK THE IMPORTATION OF SOME NON ESSENTIAL GOODS AS WELL AS EXCLUDED SOME OTHER GOODS FROM ACCESSING THE OFFICIAL CBN RATE OF ACTUALLY N198 TO $1. OR ROUNDED UP WE SAY N200.

5) FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SELL DOLLARS TO IMPORTERS OF FUEL AT OFFICIAL RATE. BUT SOMETIMES THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE DOLLARS TO SELL BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH. SO THE IMPORTERS HAVE TO SOURCE FOR DOLLARS ON THEIR OWN OR NOT IMPORT AT ALL WHICH MIGHT CAUSE SHORTAGE OF FUELS AND RESULTED TO SCARCITY OF FUEL AND LONG LINES AT THE FILLING STATION.

6) GOVERNMENT NOW IS SAYING THAT THEY WANT TO GET OUT OF SUBSIDY ALTOGETHER BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS INVOLVED BUT OF COURSE, WILL STILL REGULATE THE PRICING MODULE THIS IS WHY MR IBE KACHIKWU SAY PRICE OF PETROL WILL BE BETWEEN N135-N145.


ADVICE:

1) QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ASKED OF GOVERNMENT SUCH AS:

A) CAN ANYBODY NOW IMPORT FUEL AS THEY WISH JUST AS AGO,
B) CAN THE IMPORTER ACCESS OFFICIAL DOLLAR RATE OR THEY ARE OYO (ON YOUR OWN)
C) WHAT IF CRUDE OIL PRICE INCREASES SHARPLY IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET AND PRICE OF PETROL RISES ALONG WITH IT? WHAT SOCIAL PALLIATIVE WILL BE EMPLOYED TO ASSUAGE THE EFFECT?
D) WHEN WILL THE NEW REFINERIES COME ON BOARD?
E) HAVE THEY OFFICIALLY EXIT THE KEROSENE SUBSIDY REGIME AND CAN ANY IMPORTER ALSO ENGAGE IN THAT IMPORTATION.
F) WHEN WILL THEY DISTRIBUTE THE FREE GAS CYLINDERS TO THE POOR MASSES AND WHAT INFRASTRUCTURE WILL THEY HAVE ON GROUND SO THAT EVERYONE WHO NEEDS GAS CAN ACCESS IT AT A FAIR PRICE AND ADEQUATELY?

2) LABOR UNIONS SHOULD ASK FOR IMMEDIATE REVIEW OF THEIR SALARIES TO AT LEAST, DOUBLE OF WHAT THE CURRENT MINIMUM IS I.E. N36,000.

3) WE MUST DEMAND FOR A WELL FUNDED AND WELL EQUIPPED POLICE FORCE AND OF COURSE, MORE RECRUITMENT; THAT APPROVED 10,000 RECRUITMENT SPOT IS DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH, WE SHOULD BE TALKING OF A YEARLY INCREASE OF MINIMUM 50,000 FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS.

ASIDE OF THE WASTE WHICH IT HAS BEEN CONSTITUTING FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. IT IS ALSO A SHAME ON OUR COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE THAT WE ARE IMPORTING PRODUCTS IN WHICH WE HAVE COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE IN THE SOURCE OF RAW MATERIALS FOR THOSE PRODUCTS.

RATHER THAN IMPORTING FUELS, NIGERIA SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE AFRICAN LEADER IN THE EXPORTATION OF REFINED PRODUCTS AND THIS IS WHY I HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED SUBSIDY REMOVAL.

AM USING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CALL ON ALL MONEY-BAGS TO JUMP ON THIS SHIP NOW: BUILD REFINERIES EITHER MODULAR OR GREENFIELD, BUILD GAS DISPENSING DEPOTS...THESE ARE BUSINESSES FOR THE PRESENT AND NOW...

GOVERNMENT SHOULD ALSO ENCOURAGE THE USE OF DUAL POWER FOR THE ROAD TRANSPORT OWNERS I.E. ENACT LAWS WHICH WILL MAKE ALL BUSES USE BOTH GAS AND PETROL SO THAT WE CAN REDUCE THE USE OF PETROL.
FYI: NIGERIA IS SAID TO BE THE 4TH LARGEST OWNER OF GAS RESERVE...WE CAN START TO HARNESS THE POTENTIALS OF THIS RESERVE AND USE ITS PROCEED TO BENEFIT OUR PEOPLE.

Fuel subsidy removal can only work when we have enough refineries working at full capacity and more than enough supply of refined fuel, in that way the supply will far outweigh the demand and prices will fall. Not in a country that is still largely dependent on imported fuel. 1) THE RECENTLY APPROVED BUDGET DOES NOT INCLUDE FUNDS FOR FUEL SUBSIDY AND THE NASS MEMBERS INCLUDING DINO MELAYE KNOWS OF THIS FACT.

2) THERE IS NOT ENOUGH DOLLARS TO PAY FOR SUBSIDY EVEN IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO CONTINUE DOING SO.

3) PETROL IS ALREADY SELLING AT BETWEEN #120-#150 IN MOST NIGERIAN CITIES AND ONLY SELLS AT #86 IN SOME MAJOR PETROL DEALERERSHIP IN LAGOS AND ABUJA.

4) PRICES OF FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARE ALREADY ADJUSTED (ON THE HIGHER SIDE, UNFORTUNATELY) SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PETROL CRISES. AND THIS IS LIKELY TO REMAIN HIGH REGARDLESS.

5) THIS IS THE MOST AUSPICIOUS TIME TO REMOVE THE SUBSIDY OF PETROL AND EVEN KEROSENE.

6) MANY BUSINESS PEOPLE ARE READY TO IMPORT PETROL SO THAT THERE WOULD BE ENOUGH TO GO AROUND HENCE LEADING TO PRICE REDUCTION (JUST LOOK AT THE AVAILABILITY OF DIESEL AND PRICE FLUCTUATION FROM DEPOT TO DEPOT AROUND THE COUNTRY). IT IS ABSURD TO EXPECT ANY COMMODITY TO SELL ACROSS THE COUNTRY AT A UNIFORM PRICE EXCEPT BY STRICT PRICE CONTROL. QUESTION: DOES IT COST THE SAME AMOUNT TO TRANSPORT PETROL FROM LAGOS TO IBADAN AS IT WOULD FROM LAGOS TO BENIN? ANSWER: NO.

7) MANY INVESTORS ARE WILLING TO BUILD REFINERY ONCE GOVERNMENT IS BOLD ENOUGH TO REMOVE SUBSIDY.

CRUDE OIL PRICE IS RISING AGAIN AND GOVERNMENT CANNOT AFFORD TO WAIT TILL IT REACHES $100 PER BARREL BEFORE IT START SUBSIDY REMOVAL WAHALA AGAIN.

9) STOP COMPARING APPLES AND ORANGES ON THE SAME SCALE AGAIN:

IN 2012, NIGERIA CAN STILL AFFORD TO PAY FOR SUBSIDY BECAUSE CRUDE OIL WAS SELLING FOR AROUND $100 PER BARREL AND NIGERIA WAS MAKING ENOUGH DOLLARS SO WE CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR IT. FOR YOUR INFORMATION: IF FORMER PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN DID NOT YIELD AND PARTIALLY INCREASE THE FUEL PRICE, PETROL AND KEROSENE WOULD BEEN SELLING FOR AROUND #300 NAIRA PER LITRE BECAUSE WHEN THE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL PER BARREL IS HIGH, THE PRICE OF PETROL AND KEROSENE ARE ALSO GOING TO BE HIGH.

IN 2016 HOWEVER, PRICE OF CRUDE OIL IS BELOW $50 PER BARREL AND NIGERIA CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR SUBSIDY ANYMORE BECAUSE WE ARE CURRENTLY MAKING LESS THAN HALF OF REVENUE WE WERE MAKING DURING PRESIDENT JONATHAN ERA.

10) THE INTRICACY AND DECEIT AND THE POLITICS OF SUBSIDY REGIME INVOLVING MARKETERS, NUPENG, TLC, NLC, PPRC, CUSTOMS, NPA, NIMASA AND IMPORTERS OF PETROL/KEROSENE; NNPC SWAP DEALS BETWEEN NNPC (ITSELF AS AN ENTITY) & EXPORTERS OF CRUDE OIL & IMPORTERS OF PETROL/KEROSENE; THESE CUMBERSOME ARRANGEMENT NECESSITATE THE HARD DECISION TO REMOVE SUBSIDY ONCE AND FOR ALL.

11) EVEN THE SINATORS HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR SUBSIDY REMOVAL SINCE LAST YEAR, AT LEAST.

12) WE CANT WAIT TILL NEW REFINERIES WILL BE BUILT, BECAUSE THOSE WHO ARE BENEFITING FROM SUBSIDY REGIME WOULD CONTINUE TO FRUSTRATE THE EFFORTS OF BUILDING NEW ONES. BUT ONCE GOVERNMENT REMOVES SUBSIDY, THEY WILL BE FORCED TO PLAY ALONG.



MY ADVICE:

NIGERIAN YOUTHS, PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELVES, NIGERIA IS OUR ONLY COUNTRY AND WE ALL OF A STAKE IN IT. OUR COUNTRY NEEDS A LOT OF MONEY TO BUILD MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE AND OUR CURRENT MEAGRE BUDGET OF $25B OR 6 TRILLION NAIRA ( WE SHOULD TALKING OF A BUDGET OF BETWEEN $100B-$200B IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS) CANNOT ACHIEVE THESE FEAT. WE NEED TO RAISE FUNDS FROM ALL AREAS INCLUDING HIGHER TAXATION, CUTTING OF WASTE IN GOVERNMENT SPENDING, SOURCING FOR FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT, CUSTOM DUES/LEVIES ETC ETC. AND ALSO ENFORCING OUR LAWS, HOLDING OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DEEDS. AND MAY BE EVEN SENDING LOOTERS TO MINIMUM 25 YEARS JAIL TERM AND MAXIMUM DEATH PENALTY AS IS DONE IN CHINA.

Secondly, APC doesnt belong to the North, ONLY the current leadership belongs to the North and this will be so for at least 2023 when the leadership will revert back to the South. I can wager a bet, that no matter whatever scheming is done, APC will not break apart so soon.

1) Its too early to judge the performance of this administration...at least, give it 2yrs or midterm into its 4yrs.
2) By the time the level of corruption in GEJ regime is exposed, most Nigerians would not wish to be associated with PDP again.
3) Coupled the above with the recent fact that there is an impending explosion from within the leadership cadre of PDP because of the imposition of Mr Ali Sheriff as Chairman.

I honestly believe that Presiden Administration will deliver some tangible achievements by 2019.

The mistake we keep making in Nigeria is that good governance is not synonimous with any political party or tribes of the political party. Good leadership is more about having a dream; planning on that dream and executing the plans to make the dreams a reality.
Otherwise, Mr GEJ possess a foremost academic credential--phd., enjoy greatest support and goodwill of most Nigerians across the rdgions, had huge financial revenue needed to deliver the dividends of democracy; he is a Christian, from a minority tribe and a Southerner. At the end of the day even with all of these advantages and opportunities all he delivered was a few uncompleted infrastructures and blatamt abuse of office. Funding political ambitions directly from CBN, military security funds and any other funds he could lay his hands on. Aiding and abetting of corrupt officials on crimes borderimg on treason et al.

Nigerians should be happy we were able to vote Mr GEJ out of power without bloody revolution because by now Only God will know where Nigeria is heading to.
When President Buhari recently said Nigeria now have opportunity to become great due to the economic downturn, he is simply saying that we as a people should look inward to manifacturing, agriculture and other areas which will lead to our greatness in the comity of nations, not to continue our frivolous spending by importing non essential materials from all over the world especially, from China. Rather than commend the President what we have is condemnation and verbal assault especially, from our bretheren from the SE who are naturally going to be the most beneficiary of this important shift in economic policy.

Why should the SE/SS peoples' myopic view on political and economic matters be a ground to break Nigeria apart? Do these regions not enjoy the benefit of participation in Mr GEJ regimes, what are their collective and even individual achievements of their political leaders in Mr GEJ regime?

Please Nigerians, think! All of us have to change our individual minds from selfish to collective interest. We are all interwoven already by destiny; hausa/fulani marries into other tribes, Ibos marries into other tribes; Ijaws marries into other tribes, Yorubas marries into other tribes and we all have financial investments in each others' region but yet, our uninformed youth wants to break Nigeria apart. Is this possible?

For this singular act, as much as I disagreed with Asiwaju Tinubu's excesses, I pray God To Tamper Justice With Mercy on all of Mr Tinubu's misdeeds. Ditto for all of those field soldiers and behind the scenes heroes of the successful take-over of Nigeria from the firm grips of PDP's strangulators.
I wrote the above with all sense of responsibility and sincerity.

Now back to Mr Oyeyemi's disjointed and obviously UNPATRIOTIC EPISTLE the pertinent QUESTION TO ASK IS: WOULD MOST RESPONSIBLE NIGERIANS WHO FOUGHT FOR THE CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT IN THE LAST ELECTIONS BE HAPPY IF ASIWAJU AHMED TINUBU ACTUALLY CONTROL THE LEVER OF POWER IN THE NASS AS HE HAD DONE PREVIOUSLY IN LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY?

The truth is that it's almost impossible for one man, no matter how powerful in Nigeria to control all levers of power in a democratic setting.

Furthermore, what more can a so called political mercantilist wished for if two of his proteges are holding two most important positions of a VP whether or not Prof. Osinbajo got enough workload or not, he is still a heartbeat to the highest political prize in Nigeria and of course, Mr Fowler is the man in charge of soon to be the most revenue source of government.

I need not school Mr Oyeyemi beyond this short rejoinder. Am sure he is still who he is: A PAID PROPAGANDIST TO THE MOST CORRUPT V.P. IN THE HISTORY OF NIGERIA: Mr ATIKU. I remember you from way back, both you and Sowore of Sahara Reporters.

You can continue to deceive these Indomie/IPOD GENERATION but we know better, Light will eventually overcome the darkness no matter how long.

MY PREDICTIONS:
1) MR ATIKU WILL NEVER BECOME PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA.
2) SENATE PRESIDENT SARAKI WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE HIS SENATE PRESIDENCY.
3) MR JONATHAN STANDS A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING THE FIRST INDICTED NIGERIAN HEAD OF STATE because of his carelessness and acts of irresponsibility regarding the massive looting of Nigeria's wealth under his watch.
4) PDP will either ceast to exist or out of power in the center for another good many years.
5) South South and South East regions will never win presidency or even be considered for VP position for a good many years to come.
5) Nigeria will not break apart no matter what and this is because our leaders from across the country knows that we cant afford another civil war.

This generation of less than half educated, self centered, and ultimately, self destruct Nigerians would do well by seeking knowledge in all spheres of life, particularly, in political science, economics and diplomacy as these are related in nation building and development.

The last administration not only loot the treasury, blatantly, it also succeeded in making sure that this generation, which i termed GENERATION X, lacked sufficient knowledge needed by them to make "an informed decision." This is as result of their depriving students the conducive environment for learning occasioned by: constant strikes of up to full calender year, inadequate funding, lack of minimum oversight on complaint of abuse of office by both the teaching cadre and administrators hence, we have most of our GENERATION X graduates become unemployable, "run girls, yahoo boys and cultists."

Just on the above alone, any sane and well meaning Nigerian would have A JUST CAUSE to assail and assault the government and personality of former president Jonathan. Not to talk of many more lies and scandals such as the IMMIGRATION EMPLOYMENT,CHIBOK GIRLS and REFINED PETROLEUM SUBSIDY GRAND THEFT one of which the OP of this topic is lambasting prof. West.

i am not holding brief for Prof. West neither am i saying that former president Jonathan did not record any success. I give him credit for completion of new power plants even though his kinsmen were those who, mostly, sabotage the pipelines used to convey the needed gas from source to the power plants thereby succeeded in plunging the nation into darkness in the couple of moths leading to the 2015 general elections.

So, for those of you who thinks nation building is a piece of cake, welcome to reality because it may worst before it gets better.
