Why

1) Our political parties, though, have articulated manifestos and ideologies are still not well grounded and followers still not enlightened; at least, not enough, to know the difference between the major ideologies which competes to advance the development of the 1st world countries namely, socialism, capitalism and liberalism and to some extent, centralism--a middle of the course ideology between extreme socialism and extreme capitalism.

This is the reason why you would have self-proclaimed PROGRESSIVES align with CONSERVATIVES in order to win election; and rampart CROSS CARPETING among the active political players within the wider polity.

For example: the Northern elites are mostly conservatives whilst the Southwestern elites are Liberal cum Progressives but, yet, worked together in the last election to elect an Socialist Candidate such as PMB.

Simply put, Nigerian political play-book, both in theory and practice, encourage INDIVIDUALISM PATRONAGE as against POLITICAL PARTY IDEALISM...that is to say, majority of the Northerners voted for PMB in the last election based on his perceived uprightness/ethnicity rather than his political party, APC's progressive manifesto. And majority of the SS/SE electorates voted for GEJ based on his ethnic affiliation than the ideology of his political party, PDP.

Therefore, it is safe to say that (a) all politics is local, (b) political party ideology is PRESENTLY IRRELEVANT and (c) the majority of the NORTHERN & SS/SE electorates are not enlightened in political party ideological relevance and finally, (d) PERSONALITY OF THE CANDIDATE MATTERS.

The last consideration (PERSONALITY OF THE CANDIDATE) is responsible for YOU & I to support Nuhu Ribadu candidacy even after somewhat disagreeing with his affiliated political party. Believe it or not, if Nuhu Ribadu had emerged as the candidate of the APC in the last election, he would have convincingly won GEJ hands down albeit, more than PMB. Please don't ask me why for this assertion!

2) Nuhu Ribadu is a consistent and patriotic Nigerian, a younger PMB, but with wider appeal (cherished and nearly adored across the 6 geo-political zones) and moral rectitude to continue the STRUGGLE; the ardent fight against societal decadence, nepotism, indiscipline, and the neglect of excellence in promotion of mediocrity.

CONCLUSION: I wish that PMB delivers on his political party manifesto and his many personal promises to the citizens of our great nation; and in addition, be healthy and strong enough to continue till 2023. After which a Southerner will take over till 2031 and so on and on...

But JUST IN CASE PMB cannot continue in 2019, a Ribadu would JUST BE FINE if not BETTER!

GOODLUCK JONATHAN's only enduring legacy is the peaceful transfer of power to the opposition in the last election. And, am sorry to say, even this legacy might be paled when compared to/with the amount of looting and corruption and destruction of the moral fabric of our nation where all sectors of society enmeshed itself in one type of corrupt practices or the other WITH IMPUNITY under his watch.

It will be an injustice if I didn't give GEJ credit for the completion of at least 5 power plants in addition to many other initiated but not completed projects, but his inability to safe funds for rainny days and looting of budgeted funds overshadowed any accomplishment he could be praised and given credit for.

I am absolutely sure, that one day in the future and before his passing (May God Almighty grant him long life and good health) GEJ will sum-up the courage to write a memoir wherein he would tell the true story of how he allowed Nigeria to be so looted and APOLOGIZE to the great masses of this Nation who are now suffering for his miscalculation and inefficiency.

As for the semi-illiterates among us here in Nairaland and Nigeria in general, for your information: the reasons for our great suffering and general inflation are:

1) Low crude oil price in the international market.
2) Low US Dollars availability that makes the price of dollars to shoot-up thereby causing importers a lot more cost to import many commodities. EXCHANGE RATE IS NOW 350 NAIRA TO $1. BUHARI IS NOT THE CAUSE, LOW CRUDE OIL PRICE IS THE REASON!
3) Epileptic power generation and distribution caused by bombing of gas supply lines by militants which in-turn, deprives the power generating plants the needed gas to generate electric power.
4) Businesses closing down and sacking of employees because (a) cost of production has gone up tremendously because of high price of diesel and other fuel to power their machineries and (b) high cost of obtaining dollars to purchase raw materials.

The truth remains, that all of the above causes when well scrutinized will reveal that GEJ's government was to be held responsible for them.
GEJ should have saved for times like this when crude oil price has fallen more than 70% from when he was president and should also have made sure that funds budgeted for the Niger Delta development were used to achieve the set purposes.
GEJ should have made sure that after the subsidy removal imbroglio in early 2012, his government makes it a priority to build new refineries as agreed to under the settlement of the subsidy issue. If the new refineries were built, there would not have been the need for Nigerians to be paying about 145 naira for a litre of petrol nor even worry about using scarce dollars to import petrol from abroad.

I must also add, that about $500m budgeted each year, for Turn Around Maintenance (TAM), since at least, 2007-2014/15 ($4B) never achieve its aim because there was never a time that all the refineries combined ever produced more that 25% of their installed capacity. SO WHERE IS THE TAM FUNDS?

All of you IPOD and BIAFRA and Niger Delta militants/agitators should educate yourselves, sheath your swords and develop your minds, Nigeria belong to all of us. And everyone of us regardless of our tribe must join hands together to lift our county higher. Our traducers; our so called leaders, majority of them are selfish and divisive, their main concern is their pocket and how much illegal funds they can stack in it.

QUESTION: Is it possible for PMB to have stolen all of the funds quoted above?
ANSWER: Absolutely NOT!

CONCLUSION: Stop spreading lies and propaganda.

I read with heavy sadness in my heart how military coup has been launched in Turkey by disgruntled elements within its circle to, once again, turn back the hands of time in Turkey as had been done 3 times within 20 yrs before--1960-1980.

My sadness was compounded when I started to read here on Nairaland how many contributors began to jubilate and applauding the "heroic step" of the military junta who has staged the now failed coup.

My sadness went over-board when I read comments suggesting and even encouraging the Nigerian military officials to "do the same here in Nigeria."

Oh my God: I cannot stop to pity these set of Nigerians, mostly youths and their semi-illiterate adults alike, who cannot even successfully decipher political and economic situation at home; can hardly read a full page of news or commentary on events, but yet jumped on an international news concerning a nation such as Turkey, a nation which is not only more developed but even more complex in all ramifications, be it political, economic, social, international relations etc etc..and using that nation's unfortunate incidence as a yardstick to encourage the stabilized Nigerian military to once again, dabble into coup and possible counter-coup.

Questions:
1) Is the opportunity afforded by Nairaland platform to airs one's opinion a bad one?
2) Is social media platform a curse rather than blessing for Nigerian youths and their semi-illiterates counterpart to engage in knowledge gathering instead of spreading hates and biles out of their hearts?
3) Why should Nigeria be pushed into war-like situation because some sections of Nigeria miscalculated and committed political harakiri by putting all their eggs in one basket?
4) Should it not matter to them that the current government enjoys a 2 million more electoral votes in dislodging the previous government from power?
5) Do they understand what democracy means and stands for?
6) Would they not be better off by waiting for the next voting cycle in 2019, to re-align their political forces and effect a change if they do not like the current government?
7) Who will call these sets of ignorant people to order and educate them before they push this country into a pot of confused soup..lol?

Please leaders of thought across the six geo-political zones, engage your youths politically; educate them and speak sense into them, remind them of the last civil-war and the effects on Nigeria till this day.

The legislators cannot be prosecuted for validly passed laws neither can they be charged to court for taking any position on a matter up for discussion or voting on the floor of the house.

However any one involved in forgery can be prosecuted by law enforcement. That's why Nigerians should learn to vote people of impeccable character to represent them. Then no power can blackmail them with any past or present shady dealings.

If the Senate principal officers are illegally charged to court it makes no sense to summon the prosecutor just because they have the power to do that. They should just plead lack of jurisdiction at the court and ask for the case to thrown out. Why are they seeking our pity? Where we consulted when they decided not to face their main opponent in a fair contest by hiding in a car boost

Tanx much sir. They claimed they didn't know the rules were forged, but they are beneficiaries and refused to hand over stolen offices.

Question:

1) Can you eat your cake and still have it? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Saraki and Ekweremadu cannot have it both ways: it is either you knew the rules were forged either you partook in it or not but resign amicably OR be charged for a conspiracy to forge the rule; beneficiary of stolen offices etc etc.

2) Can the duo of Saraki and his vice claim ignorance of the forged rule book used in electing them as principal officers and a couple of days later still went ahead distributing the old rule book used by the 7th senate to the newly sworn-in members/

The buck stops at Sen. Saraki's table in making sure that frauds committed within the senate goes unpunished. And since he is the direct beneficiary of the said fraud, the ONLY honorable thing he could have done is to resign peacefully and re-contest for the position.

1) How many wives does GEJ has and is he legally married--as in court/registry/church marriage?
2) How many children does he have; where were they born and by which of his wives?
3) Has any of GEJ'S children schooled in Nigeria, if yes, name the school(s) and the location?

Please madam, endeavor to answer as many of the questions as possible and convenient for you to do OR stop spreading lies here on NL in order to launder a battered image of an IB of a leader, who presided over the worst government policies on education, which led to closure of Nigerian universities for almost one year followed by school of techs. for almost the same duration.

I am not supporting leaders sending their children abroad to study, especially if they are looting public funds, but i whole-heartedly support anyone who sends their wards abroad whether or not Nigerian universities are up-to par with their foreign counterparts as long as the tuition is paid from their hard earned monies. The truth is that education has no physical nor geographical barrier and hence should be borderless.

Even the Europeans and the Americans go to study abroad in Asia and vice versa. We Nigerians nay Africans need to study more aboard to garner much needed knowledge which will fast-track our development such as done by the Japanese and Chinese and now by the South Koreans. This should not in anyway deprive those students in Nigeria universities the better learning environment needed to achieve greatness in their area of specialization.

Please ma, GEJ is not the ONLY culprit for the rot in the educational sector, the ministers, the vice chancellors, the hods, the professors and ASUU, and even the students themselves all have their various degree of blames to shoulder not to forget the parents for their inactions, too.

It should be noted that saraki is fighting to keep his loot and make more money while pmb is fighting to rewrite the story of Nigeria and issues like saraki and Co will constitute a clog in the wheel of his progress, then the choice is ours to make as citizens, pmb is no saint but has a plan to better the lot of the country and needs to support of good heads, what good has saraki done to the people of Kwara?

NOTE:- I am not speaking for pmb.

saraki could still be a positive impact without being the Senate president, he rewarded himself for his labour for the party, and wants more of it.

The country is in this mess because looters get the support of the makes when they dole out stomach infrastructure items to them and they do more to keep people impoverished to get more support from them, living honestly has been thrown to the dogs by our leaders and have co-opted the younger generation into it.

A better number of people supporting saraki are unemployed youths and his hangers on yet they want Buhari to give them jobs and pay them timely.

Nigeria can never be better in this direction.

Most Nigerian, youths and adults alike cannot see or read the political situation as you have submitted above; they simply lacks the wherewithal, heck, they can't even read an essay completely nor even comprehend the message it conveyed.

Performance of this administration by the end of 2018-early 2019 will ultimately determine the party which will win the presidency.

But I can predict thus:

1. PMB will win reelection if APC can deliver on stable electricity supply.
2. Successfully prosecute grand-looters and continue to fight corruption on all sides.
3. Delivery of infrastructural projects including building of more refineries, power generating plants and railways.
4. Increase revenue from all other areas, most especially, from customs and excise and FIRS.
5. Improve wages for federal employees.
6. Improvement on education and health sectors both on infrastructure and wages.

However, I can bet my last kobo that neither Mr Atiku nor Mr Saraki will be so relevant, politically, to determine who wins the presidency in 2019. WHY?

For one: Mr Saraki cannot survive, politically, the myriad of landmines which will be thrown on his path going forward for he has already ROCKED THE BOAT.

TWO: I am yet to see how Mr Atiku would want to risk all he has acquired in life including wealth and freedom, to challenge PMB. For they say and I quote: He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. The BIG QUESTION: Is Mr Atiku morally fit to become Nigerian President going forward? It is just like saying Mr Tinubu can successfully vie and win Nigerian presidency. Both Mr Atiku and Mr Tinubu are better-off being kingmakers than wanting to be crowned again with the highest political title in Nigeria. Even if PMB does not contest in 2019, another Northerner of much lesser baggage of alleged corrupt tendencies will be crowned.

As for PDP, they will need not ONLY new crops of patriotic leaders to steer its ship in the right direction, but also new political alignment to win the presidency in 2019.

Finally and instructively, 2019 is too far away for any reasonable person including yours truly, to start condemning any political party or say with certainty the outcome of the general election. One day in politics is like one year; fortunes can change for good or bad in just ONE DAY!

Mr Pabloid,

TSA is not a government "savings account" rather, it is an account (TREASURY "SINGLE" ACCOUNT) for receiving revenue payable to government. That is instead of government through all of its' agencies operating several and multiple bank accounts; the TSA creates a single platform for all revenues payable to government.

It is money from TSA which government will use to fund its annual budgets/expenditure on both current and re-current expenses annually.

ECA or excess crude account is a savings account as well as external reserve account (foreign reserve/sovereign wealth fund). Both mentioned accounts are the ones you should have referred to in your post.

Please sir, seek knowledge on issues you make comment upon and not just contributing to issues you do not understand its dynamics. Tanx.

The case of the above mentioned will just be like saying, THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER AREAS IN THE UK are causing violent protests and agitations to SECEDE/SEEK INDEPENDENCE from ENGLAND because they have just discovered large deposits of oil and diamond in their areas, and at the same time, the natives of these areas felt like the rest of ENGLAND/BRITAIN/UK are discriminating against them or worse, they are under-developing them, even though, they are being led by people from their immediate tribe and ethnic affiliations.

CONCLUSION:

We must stop fueling the ember of violence by misinforming the gullible masses of this nation. If Niger Delta and BIAFRA must secede from Nigeria, it cannot be done through force or violent agitations and definitely not through any referendum as "peacefully" as is just been done in the BRITAIN. It would involve a lot more from all the six-geo political zones of Nigeria by ONLY PATRIOTIC AND SELFLESS LEADERS who will be able to manage all the inherent dangers and entanglements involved within the six-zones.

For SE candidate to win election, they will need to join forces with SW and this is why: Hausa/Fulani do not trust an Ibo man becoming Nigerian president. But if SW and SE can find a credible candidate belonging to a viable political party and backed by a popular northerner, then SE candidate can become president in 2023 after the tenure of PMB or whomever the APC elected then to complete PMB's tenure (assuming 2 terms for PMB) incase PMB did not go for re-election.

I could have bet my last kobo that if not for Baba OBJ, GEJ, a minority from SS would not have been president in Nigeria for the forseeable future. And definitely, a SE candidate would not have fly in 2011 as was done for GEJ.

The maths didn't add-up!

If "Dr" Obafemi was born in 1971 (because the story says he is 45yrs) and acquired his first degree from a university in london in 1987 i.e. at the age of 16yrs.

The questions now are:
1) Is Dr Obafemi, a genius who passed both WAEC and A' Levels at the age of 11yrs and 12yrs respectively?

2) Has any relevant authority confirm his educational qualification?

3) Has the writer of this story confirm any of the acquired certification claimed by this Dr Obafemi to be genuine?

I think, it's a huge diservice by both the authority who releases this unfounded story and the writer who published here on public forum. Moreover, it is even a more moral and intellectuak burden in those who made comments without first reading and digesting the facts contained therein.

Just wondering: Why is it I am the only one who noticed that GEJ has a left "unusually saggy' eye which is indicative of a lack of adequate rest? In addition, GEJ has a reddish, though a bit, swollen lips that happen to be on his left facial side. I just hope GEJ is not drinking too much and falling on his face hitting tables...lol.

On a more serious note: If in tact, GEJ is out of the country as been speculated (in london), I would have to agree with one of the contributors on this forum that GEJ must have been ordered by PMB to facilitate the negotiation of the release of the $9B being the largest single amount oif the just released information on seized loot from former GEJ'S cronies by PMB'S government. May be from the trio of Diesiani. Omokore and Jide Aluko who are the major looters of Nigeria's commonwealth.

TIMELINE:
1) British High commissioner visited OBJ
2) OBJ visited PMB for an undisclosed urgent meeting
3) GEJ hurriedly arrived Nigeria and went briefly to Otuoeke and to Aso Rock in Abuja for an emergency meeting with PMB.
4) GEJ jetted out of Nigeria looking serious and tired.
5) Even Reno Omokiri GEJ'S special assistant is not smiling and looked very serious along with his boss.

Well, time will tell on what is really going on around GEJ which is giving him sleepless nights or too much drinking as the case may be.

For all of you hateful and confused youths who are praising GEJ as hero of our time, you are both right and wrong at the same time ( an oxymoron committed on my own part) I cannot blame you guys that much because it is not your fault, at least not entirely, your leaders or may I say, our leaders of past and present are the ones who did and are still doing us in: They are dealing us a bad set of cards; it is a case of head you loose, tail you also loose!

GEJ say his ambition for relection is not worth a single lost of life, but yet, he allowed funds meant for weapons to fight BOKO HARAM to be shared bhy members of his own political party for his own re-election. So I asked, how many peoples' life were lost because of non provision of equipment and ammunition for the military; were the innocent lives lost to BOKO HARAM bombers those of foreigners living in the North East and else where across the North?

The truth is that GEJ is evil, pure and simple! BUT EVEN SATAN, SOMETIMES WITH PRAYERS, DO HAVE A RETHINK!
The reason GEJ becomes an ACCIDENTAL HERO, is because GOD ALMIGHTY answers Nigerians vivid prayers and helped GEJ made the right decision by conceding the electoral defeat in a timely fashion.

Any attempt to paint BLACK WHITE will always reveal itself over time. Posterity will not forgive GEJ for his condoning criminality in all facet of our society.

Start to ask question about the huge budgets of DELTA, BAYELSA AND RIVERS STATES and what your governors accomplished with those huge funds.
At least, we can see many developments in AKWA IBOM, CROSS RIVERS and even in EDO and IMO STATES and now in ANAMBRA STATE.

What about EBONYI, ABIA, ENUGU and even BAYELSA with a population of a couple of million people with a budget of over N400B annually has almost nothing to show for it. Ditto DELTA STATE.

At some point in the nearest future, we have to compel our political leaders from the South to convince their Northern counterparts on the imperative of RESOURCE CONTROL either on a state-by-state basis or on regional basis. But at the worst, WE MUST DO AWAY WITH THE 774 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS ENSHRINED IN THE NIGERIA CONSTITUTION.(it is lop-sided in favor of the North).

The truth is that the annual revenue of about $40B-$80B (sometimes, a lot less) from the sale of crude oil and gas is not enough to give the whole of Nigeria the kind of development we need and required. Nigeria has to partially takes its eyes off of oil and gas revenue and generate more income from all other areas.

I suggest that revenue from oil and gas should directly goes into foreign reserve to be used for investment and provision of infrastructure whilst government budget should be dependent ONLY upon revenue from ROI, taxes, import duty and levies etc etc.

The reason am suggesting the above is that revenue from oil and gas cannot be guaranteed (because of fluctuation on the price of oil and gas) whilst that of taxes, import duty and levies can be mostly relied upon.

Since when has it become a requirement that the candidate for the office of the president of Nigeria requires an economics degree to run the affairs of this nation?

Even if the president has a PHD in economics from Havard University in USA, he would still have to defer to the CBN Governor and his group of decision makers for MONETARY policy decisions. The best the president can control with much levity is control the FISCAL policies.

I think it's time we gather these unproductive youths for tutorials in economics, government/political science and of course, english language studies for many of them cannot read; read and comprehend; and write a full paragraph without error.

I want to believe that most of these youths are those who didn't vote for PMB during the last election because of their own peculiar reasons.

TRUTH: Your hero GEJ, who has a PHD in zoology only succeeded in turning Nigeria into an ANIMAL KINGDOM, albeit a Zoo. Every strata of society became enmeshed in one form of corruption or another including secondary school student who cheats in examinations by carrying INDOMIE into exam halls while the examiners and invigilators collect bribes and wandered about the school.

WAEC just announced today that they are cancelling some students results due to exams malpractices, a good percentage of our female tertiary students turned OLOSHO and their male counterparts turned YAHOO YAHOO BOYS all this under the government of your hero GEJ.

Many graduates could not find jobs and those who are fortunate got a pittance for wages, I even pity some teachers in private schools some make as low as N6,000 per month.

FACTS:
Nigeria foreign revenue is much lower now because the price of crude oil is also lower and Nigeria cannot keep giving dollars that it doesn't have through the CBN.

Or do you half-educated fellows think that government just print money including dollars as it likes?
You can't give what you don't have, period! Shikena!

The CBN governor said the bank cannot support the fixed exchange rate basis any longer because there is not enough dollars revenue to sustain it. Therefore, the dollars has to go on flexible exchange rate basis, in other words, the rule of demand and supply of dollars will ultimately determine its fair price. Comprehendo?

Now, after understanding the above, how is PMB a dullard? Is it PMB who determines the price of crude oil in the international market?

Is it PMB who is blowing up oil fields thereby disrupting oil production?

Is it PMB who asked GEJ not to save for the rainy days when price of oil was around $100 per barrel?
Even the erstwhile minister of finance attested to the fact that her boss GEJ lacked the POLITICAL WILL TO SAVE MONEY DURING THE OIL BOOM YEARS!

GEJ should henceforth be labelled MR NO POLITICAL WILL because he absolutely lacked POLITICAL WILL TO FIGHT BOKO HARAM; TO FIGHT CORRUPTION; TO SACK ERRANT MINISTERS LIKE ABBA MORO; TO SETTLE ASUU DEMANDS FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR; TO FIND CHIBOK GIRLS and many many more.

It is really a big shame how misinformation and half-education are killing our future leaders (the youths) and of course, some of the adults.

CHANGE is a gradual process, not something that will happen overnight. It is easier to destroy a structure than to build it afresh.

Whilst I understand the economic frustration which many of our families are going through right now, but the remedy has to be a bitter pill to swallow, at least initially, and then progressively gets better overtime. The government of PMB is just about 1yr old and all of you guys are already calling for his head.

THE TRUTH IS THAT WE SANE NIGERIANS WHO VOTED FOR CHANGE KNOWS DEFINITELY, 100% TO BE EXACT, THAT GEJ'S GOVERNMENT WAS JUST A KLEPTOMANIAC GOVERNMENT WHICH BEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IS THE LOOTING OF THE TREASURY WITH IMPUNITY.

6) GOVERNMENT NOW IS SAYING THAT THEY WANT TO GET OUT OF SUBSIDY ALTOGETHER BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS INVOLVED BUT OF COURSE, WILL STILL REGULATE THE PRICING MODULE THIS IS WHY MR IBE KACHIKWU SAY PRICE OF PETROL WILL BE BETWEEN N135-N145.

1) QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ASKED OF GOVERNMENT SUCH AS:

A) CAN ANYBODY NOW IMPORT FUEL AS THEY WISH JUST AS AGO,
B) CAN THE IMPORTER ACCESS OFFICIAL DOLLAR RATE OR THEY ARE OYO (ON YOUR OWN)
C) WHAT IF CRUDE OIL PRICE INCREASES SHARPLY IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET AND PRICE OF PETROL RISES ALONG WITH IT? WHAT SOCIAL PALLIATIVE WILL BE EMPLOYED TO ASSUAGE THE EFFECT?
D) WHEN WILL THE NEW REFINERIES COME ON BOARD?
E) HAVE THEY OFFICIALLY EXIT THE KEROSENE SUBSIDY REGIME AND CAN ANY IMPORTER ALSO ENGAGE IN THAT IMPORTATION.
F) WHEN WILL THEY DISTRIBUTE THE FREE GAS CYLINDERS TO THE POOR MASSES AND WHAT INFRASTRUCTURE WILL THEY HAVE ON GROUND SO THAT EVERYONE WHO NEEDS GAS CAN ACCESS IT AT A FAIR PRICE AND ADEQUATELY?

3) WE MUST DEMAND FOR A WELL FUNDED AND WELL EQUIPPED POLICE FORCE AND OF COURSE, MORE RECRUITMENT; THAT APPROVED 10,000 RECRUITMENT SPOT IS DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH, WE SHOULD BE TALKING OF A YEARLY INCREASE OF MINIMUM 50,000 FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS.
