Business / Re: MTN Group CEO Dabengwa Resigns Over N1.04tn Fine by MYMINDER(m): 10:48am On Nov 09, 2015

Dude, we are not North Korea. We are an organised country within a globalized community.
What sort of hate will induce such draconian rules?
Being the 7th most populous country does not give us a right to operate outside the ambit of the law.

Make points with logic and not emotion.

Was the fine computation known before now to all telecommunications providers? Yes! Did MTN violate? Yes! Should MTN pay the fine (that the penalty was known way in advance of transgression?) Yes!

SA did not approve any license for any Nigerian bank. Is that not Draconian? Nigerian banks moved on and life continued.

The 5.2m active subscribers that had unregistered sim cards on the MTN network is too much!

Reason should prevail by MTN. Pay your fine for violating rules you are a signatory to. This policy of misbehaving and begging does not work in Africa.

JP Morgan has been fined over $9B so far in 2015 alone for various regulatory infractions. They have sucked it up, learnt from it and business continues. MTN should do the same or leave Nigeria.

The fine is not compulsory to pay. MTN is not in a position of strength and trying to argue from that angle Will further alienate them from every neutral who stands for paying the fine for doing the violation. There is new sheriff in town and the terms of the fine are not arbitrary!

Unemployment rate is 25% in South Africa and trust me if they leave Nigeria many jobs will be lost in SA also.

The first thing you all need to accept is MTN needs Nigeria a lot more than Nigeria needs MTN. Simple and humble fact. Deal with it or leave. Life always has options just like deciding to go to he'll or heaven. The actions to do so take place here on earth. Nothing is nu force. MTN has the freedom to pay or leave.

PHB AND AFRIBANK WHAT CAUSED THEIR PROBLEM WAS IT A FINE?LIVE AND LEARN MORE

It was executive recklessness that led to the banks going up in smoke. MTN disobeyed a rule it was aware of and a signatory to. This is not executive recklessness. MTN did not expect what they signed to be applied even if MTN violated. This has bee n the scenario in the past. Leadership changes at the top sometimes makes people sit up and start working. MTN flouted Nigerian rules at the wrong time.

The point I am trying to make to you with my earlier comment is that losing value as a shareholder did not start today. Don't make yours something special.

Change of leadership does a lot. Nigeria has bee not abused by everybody; citizens and foreigners. It has to stop someday and MTN became the first victim.

As South Africa's deputy president said. MTN should obey the rules in countries it operates.

FOR A MINUTE ASK YOURSELF IF YOU HAD SHARES WITH MTN OR WAS PART OF IT'S ORGANIZATION OUTFIT,WILL YOU SAY SUCH

Shareholders of Bank PHB and Afribank lost their shares for nothing and all unclaimed dividends also vanished. MTN will continue as a going concern which leaves shareholders with some value. The above bank shareholders got zero and unclaimed dividends also went up in smoke. Live and learn.

S/HE who laffs when a stranger is being frustrated in his country should not cry when same fate befalls his/her relations abroad.

Who will fine PHCN for poor power supply ?

who will fine NNPC for oil importation rackets ?

who will fine Dangote Cement for not complying to the FG's directive to reduce cement cost ?

who will fine the oil marketers who constantly cause fuel scarcity thereby causing hardship on Nigeria ?

who will fine the President for failled promises and for failling to constitute his cabinet asap when the new Canadian PM did his
within the week he took oath of office thereby hitting the ground running on policy formulation and execution.

e.t.c

Even if MTN had violated your rules should you use a sledge hammer to kill a mouse? N1trillion! for a socially responsible company like MTN is too much. It will kill that company and it will also send wrong signals with respect to FDI. N100 Billion max is still ok to effect your corrective punishment without hurting the economic eco-system of that telecom giant!

When they decide to sack half of their Nigerian employees and they automate their jobs ( this is technology age ) what do you think would happen to the families that would be affected? so much for tackling un-employment! now, influx to the labour market will increase. At worst, MTN share holders would loose some monies but for Nigerian families connected to MTN, they would loose their means of livelihood.

NIGERIA ... THINK!

MTN needs Nigeria more than Nigeria needs them. It is simple. Keep your $5.2B and lose your operating licence. I assure you that losing the Nigeria market is worth a lot more and MTN will rather pay than leave. Nigeria is the 7th most populous nation in the world. It's not a market to be overlooked even if you want to. Everything has a beginning and end in life, including impunity. MTN realised too late.

Seat ur room mate down and talk to her. Tell her what she is doing is not good that she is committing adultery which is a sin unto God. Also tell her how will she feel if she is married and another woman is sleeping with the husband.

Only married people are guilty of adultery. Take note. The lady is guilty of fornication with a married man. She did not commit adultery as she is not married.

Lol - OP welcome to life and the real world. I was in the same situation once but I came through it a stronger and better person.

These valuable lessons helped me at the time and they continue to do so even now;

1. No one can change your life except you.

2. Everyone has problems and challenges of their own, do not expect anyone to take panadol for your headache.

3. Success in this life is your personal responsibility (Zainab) do not put it on anyone.

No 3 is my favourite personal mantra I chant it on a regular basis to keep me focused, motivated and reliant on myself (and Heaven as well)

While friends may come across as insensitive and uncaring in our trying times, we have a responsibility to fight for our lives, pull ourselves up and get it together, regardless.

My experience was a good thing for me because it reinforced my sense of self sufficiency & independence.

It also helped me to identify my fair & foul weather friends. Suck it up OP hopefully this will be a good experience for you as well.

It is God that reveals our enemies (those that do not sincerely wish us well) to us. A good number of times it is those who we deem close that turn out to be far when events of life take center stage.
