MrGidifeed: The 21-year-old attacker has been handed his maiden invitation to the national team ahead of Tuesday’s friendly match
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has called up Club Brugge forward Dennis Bonaventure as a replacement for Monaco’s Henry Onyekuru.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to take on Ukraine in an international friendly fixture at the Dnipro Arena on Tuesday.
Onyekuru became the latest player to withdraw from next week's encounter after Wilfred Ndidi and Tyronne Ebuehi opted out in order to recover from their injuries, while Kenneth Omeruo continues to process his work permit in Spain.
The 22-year-old, who joined Monaco from Everton permanently this summer, cited his inability to secure a resident permit as the reason for withdrawal from the encounter.
“It is true that I won’t be available for the match against Ukraine next week due to resident permit,” Onyekuru told AOI Football.
“I only arrived here less than a month and I’m yet to get my resident card, so if I leave now I won’t be able to return and will then have to apply for another visa to fly back to France.”
Bonaventure joins Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo, Bordeaux forward Josh Maja and Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as the new invitees who will be aiming to make their Super Eagles debuts against Andriy Shevchenko’s men.

CuriousMynd: The National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State has upheld the election of Stella Oduah as the senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Esther Haruna, in her judgement on Thursday, ruled that Mrs Oduah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was validly elected on February 23.
Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Emeka, had petitioned the tribunal, claiming that Oduah was not qualified to contest the election because she did not possess the required academic qualifications.
Emeka, a former deputy governor of Anambra, also alleged that the former minister was a member of APGA at the time of the election.
He added that Oduah’s declaration as the winner of the poll was not in harmony with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Justice Haruna, however, ruled that the petitioner failed to prove his allegations beyond reasonable doubt, Igbere TV reports.
The tribunal also upheld the election of the PDP member representing Anaocha/Dunokofia/Njikoka Federal Constituency, Val Ayika, whose victory was challenged by APGA’s candidate in the election, Dozie Nwankwo.

9jaBlogger: Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has come under fire for attending the ongoing World Economic Forum in South Africa despite federal government’s boycott of the event over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had reported that Nigeria, alongside African countries like Rwanda, Malawi and DR Congo, boycotted the two-day summit holding in Cape Town following the attack on foreigners in South Africa.
Ezkwesili earned heavy criticisms from Nigerians after photos of her attending the summit surfaced on social media, particularly on micro-blogging platform, Twitter.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, was among those to first criticize the former presidential candidate in the last general election.
“Surprised to see some Nigerian experts in everything governance who spend most of their time lecturing the Government on empathy and the art of prioritizing national interest over individual benefits, (but) still went ahead to attend the summit”, he wrote.
Other critics claimed that Mrs Ezekwesili could not afford to boycott the event because of “her love for dollars” and the “camera”.
Apart from the former Minister, Founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, was also spotted at the event and currently being dragged on Twitter alongside Oby.
Below are some reactions to her attendance at the event, as obtained by Igbere TV..

The Process and Industrial Developments, on Sunday, expressed its readiness to negotiate with Nigeria over the $9.6bn judgment of a United Kingdom court that may authorise the company to seize the nation’s assets to offset the judgment debt.
The company, however, advised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to “appoint an authorised party to enter into real negotiations” instead of what it called the Nigeria’s “baseless slander and sham investigations against the P&ID and its founders.”
This was contained in a reply to The PUNCH’s enquiry about the company’s attitude towards the Federal Government’s offer to negotiate with the P&ID over the judgment.
The PUNCH’s enquiry was sent to the P&ID’s lead counsel, Ian Mill, a Queen’s Counsel, of the UK-based Blackstone Chambers, on Friday.
The PUNCH’s mail was replied on behalf of Mill on Sunday, by an Assistant Director at the UK-based public relations firm, iNHouse Communications, advising Nigeria to accept the reality of the ruling of the arbitration panel and the UK court’s judgment and desist from its “campaign of baseless slander.”
The reply quoting, “a spokesperson for the P&ID,” read in part, “If the Nigerian government is serious about a willingness to negotiate, then it must do so in good faith.
“This means that the Buhari administration must acknowledge the reality of the rulings of the independent tribunal and the English Commercial Court, desist from its campaign of baseless slander and sham investigations against the P&ID and its founders, and instead appoint an authorised party to enter into real negotiations.”
We’re ready to negotiate with P&ID –Minister
However, the Federal Government had, through its officials, directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the National Intelligence Agency and the police to launch a wide-ranging investigations into the activities of the P&ID, their promoters, and the contract leading to the UK judgment among others.
On August 29, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who spoke on Good Morning Nigeria, a live breakfast programme of the Nigerian Television Authority, said government was willing to meet with the P&ID to come up with a “reasonable” agreement.
Mohammed said, “We are even willing to sit down with the P&ID and negotiate. We are ready to take this matter to the highest level — legal, diplomatic and otherwise — because we think it is just unfair and unconscionable. You don’t inflict this kind of injury on a country and its people for your selfish reasons.
“The government is doing everything possible to get self-execution and to set aside this award. But at the end of the day, we need to sit down with the P&ID and arrive at something that we think is reasonable for all the parties.”
P&ID rejected assets, demanded cash, says report
Meanwhile, the Federal Government had in 2018 negotiated and offered to pay $250m in the form of settlement to the P&ID to put to rest a controversial judgment that was slammed on Nigeria by a United Kingdom court that the firm should seize $9.6bn in Nigerian assets.
This was contained in a document sighted by one of our correspondents.
The document titled, ‘Summary of facts on the P&ID,’ and dated August 29, 2019, which one our correspondents sighted on Sunday, showed that some Federal Government officials and its counsel, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), had on May 16, 2017, met with the representatives of the firm and its counsel to negotiate the award. However, by the time the ministry forwarded its comments to the P&ID, they were rejected on the grounds that what was agreed on for execution was a Draft Stay of Enforcement Agreement and not a Settlement Agreement as proposed by the Federal Government.
The document indicated that at another negotiation meeting held on July 13, 2018, with the firm’s counsel, Messrs Kobre & Kim LLP, the P&ID’s position was that litigation efforts to enforce the award in the US had been subjected to third party funding and that the settlement proposals by the Nigerian government would then need to be significantly higher than the settlement sum proposed in May 2017 by the Federal Government at the settlement meetings in London.

The Lagos State House Assembly has set up a committee to investigate the purchase of 820 buses by the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The lawmakers said the governor did not get the approval to buy 820 of the 5,000 buses he proposed for mass transit in the state.
In a motion titled, ‘Lagos State House of Assembly Motion Number 2,’ the lawmaker representing Eti Osa Constituency 2, Gbolahan Yishawu, said the executive proposed to spend ₦17bn to purchase the buses in the 2017 budget, but it was not approved.
He added that in the 2018 and 2019 budgets, the state government proposed ₦24bn and ₦7bn respectively for the buses, which were again turned down.
Yishawu said the Ambode administration, however, went ahead to purchase the vehicles.
The lawmaker said the House was worried that 520 of the 820 buses were still awaiting clearance from the bonded warehouse and the port at the expense of taxpayers.
He suggested that an ad hoc committee be set up to investigate the cost of the buses and other issues surrounding the purchase to prevent a recurrence.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, said that the House must act urgently on the matter to prevent waste.
The House subsequently set up a committee headed by member representing Ibeju Lekki Constituency 1, Fatal Mojeed, to look into the matter and report to the House.

reportminds: Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi may quit Trabzonspor just two months after joining the club, reportsfrom Turkey have revealed.
The 32-year-old signed a two-year deal with an option of another year at the club in July, but has found it difficult adjusting to life in Trabzon, according to a source close to the player.
“There’s a lot of expectation from the club with regards to Mikel,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Sports Extra.
“And he is ready to play for the team despite the early pressure, but he wants his family around him, which he can’t do at the moment.”
Mikel, who has made four appearances since joining the club (two starts and two substitute appearances), is also unsettled following the decision of his partner, Olga Diyachenko, to stop visiting him in Turkey.
“Olga doesn’t like the city. She came visiting with the kids and they do not also like Turkey, which could now be a problem for Mikel,” the source further revealed.
Mikel, capped 89 times by Nigeria, helped the Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He also featured in two World Cups.
He made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in an 11-year spell, which ended when he left Stamford Bridge two years ago winning two league titles, three FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.
He was also one of Nigeria’s three over-age players as the African side won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
