Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has stirred controversy among his party faithful after he congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari whose victory at the polls was upheld by the tribunal on Wednesday, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement Wednesday, urged Buhari to use his victory to work for all Nigerians, irrespective of their political leanings.

Despite Atiku’s decision to appeal the judgement, Wike called on Buhari to work towards the unity of the country, noting that the country was divided.

Nigerians on Twitter have been reacting to the development, saying that Wike must have envisaged the loss of the party’s presidential candidate at the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar.

Minister of State for Niger Delta, Mr Festus Keyamo, on Wednesday, visited President Muhammad Buhari in his house over his victory at the Election Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the five-man panel tribunal, Wednesday, upheld Buhari’s re-election, striking out all petitions brought against him by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Seven travelers from Offa, Kwara state, who were abducted along the Kaduna-Abuja road last week, have been rescued by personnel of the Nigerian army. They regained their freedom around 4:30 am on Wednesday, when troops of the one mechanised division moved into the forest where they had been kept.

The six adults and a seven-year-old girl have now been welcomed at the Kaduna state government house. Officials note that no ransom was paid for their release, advising Nigerians against travelling at night.

The President said he was not worried about the outcome of the court process because he knew Nigerians elected him for a second term in office.

A week after The PUNCH’s investigation into the non-existent doctorate of the acting Director General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi, Chima Igwe, the government has refused to take action.

The Ministry of Science and Technology had stated that it could not do anything because Igwe’s academic records were with FIIRO.

The ministry had also shifted responsibility to the institute’s governing board and a former director general, Prof. Gloria Elemo.

It also claimed not to be aware of any investigation into the matter.

However, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has promised to make public its findings on the matter.

Our correspondent had reported that Igwe joined FIIRO in 1991 and rose through the ranks.

However, a policy in the institution made it impossible for anyone without a PhD to be promoted to the senior cadre.

Igwe then claimed that he completed his doctorate at the Abomey-Calavi University, Benin Republic, in 2001.

He was reportedly promoted several times based on the claim, despite having only an attestation letter as evidence.

The matter became contentious when there was a need to appoint a new head for the agency earlier this year.

The board of governors checked the files of senior officers and discovered that 57-year-old Igwe, who was the most senior, did not have a certificate to back his PhD claim.

After several failed ultimatums for the officer to bring the certificate, the board recommended to the ministry that the next most senior officer be appointed into the position.

The PhD case was said to have been taken up by the ICPC.

The Dr Ogbonnaya Onu-led Ministry of Science and Technology, however, rejected the recommendation of the board and insisted that Igwe be appointed.

The FIIRO spokesperson, Chris Olumuyiwa, while acknowledging that PhD was a basis for promotion to senior positions in the institute, maintained that Igwe’s doctorate was not in doubt.

The conundrum around the PhD remained unresolved until The PUNCH visited Benin Republic, where Igwe claimed to have bagged the degree.

The Deputy Director, School of Postgraduate Studies, Abomey-Calavi University, Prof. Valentin Wotto, told our correspondent that Igwe had yet to complete the degree.

Wotto added that Igwe must re-register to continue his studies and complete his academic programme before getting his PhD.

The ICPC, which has been investigating the case for many months, promised to reveal its findings to the public.

The spokesperson for the agency, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, said in a text message, “I learnt that our investigation into the matter is ongoing. The outcome will be made public when the processes are concluded.”

Nigerians, who read the report, commended The PUNCH for the good job, adding that what took the ICPC a long time to do, the newspaper did within a short while.

Many also called for Igwe’s prosecution.

“Too many people out there occupying high positions of authority, while there are millions of eligible Nigerians in various fields looking for jobs. No wonder, nothing is working. It is not only the man that should be prosecuted, but many that have been incompetent should also give way as collateral – let the right people in,” a reader, de_Wale, wrote.

Another reader, with the alias, government, said Igwe should be made to refund the salary he took with the supposed certificate.

“The man should be asked to refund all the salaries he used his adulterated PhD to obtain. He should also be demoted,” he wrote.

“The PUNCH did a good job here; professional journalism despite the language barrier. No one can accuse this newspaper of shoddy journalism. Excellent! Let’s have Igwe’s reaction when confronted with the facts from the Republic of Benin,” Daoud Akano stated.

Some readers on Twitter also queried the reaction of the Ministry of Science and Technology that it could not do anything about the scandal.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike, has said he has nothing against Islam or any faith amidst storm over the reported demolition of Trans-Amadi Central Mosque in Port Harcourt.

Wike said this on Sunday while showing the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, the site of the mosque he was accused of demolishing, Igbere TV reports.

Fayemi, according to a statement by his spokesman, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, was in Port Harcourt to verify the true situation of the matter.

Wike claimed that the site where the mosque was reportedly located was a sewage dump area.

He said: “I have nothing against Islam or any faith for that matter. As you can see there was never a mosque on this ground instead it is a sewage site which has been in contention between the state government and some groups because they want to develop on prohibited land.”

Wike appreciated Fayemi, who was accompanied by the Director-General of the forum, Asishana Okauru, for visiting to verify the truth about the situation.

He also commended Fayemi’s leadership style which he described as exemplary, noting that he did not join those who rushed to judgement on the matter.

Wike said: “Those who yelled about the demolition were being plain mischievous. There was nothing there to show that a mosque ever existed on the site.”

Abrasion. This is physical wear and tear of the tooth surface that happens with brushing teeth too hard, improper flossing, biting on hard objects (such as fingernails, bottle caps, or pens), or chewing tobacco.

Abfraction. This occurs from stress fractures in the tooth such as cracks from flexing or bending of the tooth.

Erosion. This occurs chemically when acidic content hits the tooth surface such as with certain medications like aspirin or vitamin C, tablets, highly acidic foods, GERD, and frequent vomiting from bulimia or alcoholism.

More findings show bulimia as a cause of enamel erosion and tooth decay. Bulimia is an eating disorder that’s associated with binge eating and vomiting, a source of acid. Frequent vomiting erodes tooth enamel and can lead to cavities.

Saliva plays a key role in keeping teeth healthy and strong. Not only does saliva increase the health of the body tissues, it protects enamel by coating the teeth in protective calcium and other minerals. Saliva also dilutes erosive agents such as acid, removes waste material from the mouth, and boosts protective substances that help fight mouth bacteria and disease.

In a healthy mouth, calcium-rich saliva helps strengthen teeth, even if you drink an acidic soda or juice. Yet when you go overboard and ingest a lot of acidic foods and beverages, this strengthening process on the teeth no longer occurs.

Does plaque cause enamel erosion?
Plaque is a sticky film made up of saliva, food particles, bacteria, and other substances. Plaque forms between your teeth and gets inside tiny holes or pits in the molars. It also gets around your cavity fillings and next to the gum line where the teeth and gums meet.

Sometimes the bacteria in plaque changes food starches into acids. When this happens, the acids in plaque start to eat away at the healthy minerals in the tooth enamel. This causes the enamel to wear down and become pitted. Over time, the pits in the enamel increase and grow in size.

What are the signs of Tooth Wear?
The signs of tooth wear can vary, depending on the stage. Some signs may include:

1. Sensitivity. Certain foods (sweets) and temperatures of foods (hot or cold) may cause a twinge of pain in the early stage of enamel erosion.

2. Discoloration. As the enamel erodes and more dentin is exposed, the teeth may appear yellow.

3. Cracks and chips. The edges of teeth become more rough, irregular, and jagged as enamel erodes.

4. Severe, painful sensitivity. In later stages of enamel erosion, teeth become extremely sensitive to temperatures and sweets. You may feel a painful jolt that takes your breath away.

5. Cupping. Indentations appear on the surface of the teeth.

When enamel erodes, the tooth is more susceptible to cavities or tooth decay. When the tooth decay enters the hard enamel, it has entry to the main body of the tooth.

Small cavities may cause no problems at first. But as cavities grow and penetrate the tooth, they can affect the tiny nerve fibers, resulting in an extremely painful abscess or infection.

How do you prevent tooth wear?

To prevent enamel loss and keep teeth healthy, be sure to brush, floss, and rinse with a fluoride and antiseptic mouthwash daily. See your dentist every six months for regular checkups and cleaning. You can also try the following:

1. Eliminate highly acidic foods and drinks from your diet such as carbonated sodas, lemons, and other citrus fruits and juices. Rinse your mouth immediately with clear water after eating acidic foods or drinking acidic drinks.
Use a straw when you drink acidic drinks. The straw pushes the liquid to the back of your mouth, avoiding your teeth.

2. Monitor snacks. Snacking throughout the day increases the chance of tooth decay. The mouth is acidic for a few hours after eating foods high in sugar and starches. Avoid snacking unless you’re able to rinse your mouth and brush teeth.

3. Chew sugar-free gum between meals. Chewing gum boosts saliva production up to 10 times the normal flow. Saliva helps strengthen teeth with important minerals. Be sure to select sugar-free gum with xylitol, which is shown to reduce acids in beverages and foods.

4. Use fluoride toothpaste . Fluoride strengthens teeth, so make sure fluoride is listed as an ingredient in your toothpaste.

5. Ask your dentist if sealants may be helpful in preventing enamel erosion and tooth decay.

Treatment of tooth enamel loss depends on the problem. Sometimes tooth bonding is used to protect the tooth and increase cosmetic appearance.

If the enamel loss is significant, the dentist may recommend covering the tooth with a crown or veneer. The crown may protect the tooth from further decay.

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, the Anambra State capital, has upheld the elections of Senators Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Peoples Party and Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Anambra South Senatorial District and Anambra Central Senatorial District respectively.

While the oil mogul defeated Chris Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress at the tribunal, Senator Ekwunife defeated Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Umeh had challenged the declaration of Ekwunife by the Independent National Electoral Commission, stating that she was not properly nominated by her party, while the Uba brothers alleged that the election of Ifeanyi Ubah was characterised by violence.

Umeh in his reaction asked his supporters to remain calm.

He said, “Thank you very much for your faith and indomitable spirit! We shall prayerfully approach the Court Of Appeal after reviewing the judgment! It was like this on 9th October 2015. Today is another 9th! Let us not despair. God bless.”

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West at the National Assembly, has said that he built a chapel in honour of his late mother, Comfort, because of God’s ‘unmerited favour’ he enjoys.

The lawmaker shared a video on Monday via Twitter of the dedication of the chapel by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Supo Ayokunle, Igbere TV reports.

“Dedication of Chapel built in honour of my mother by CAN President. I did this to thank God for the unmerited favour I have continuously receive from God,” Melaye said.

The late Comfort, who passed on aged 70, was buried in a bible grave on July 13 at Elder J. E. Melaye’s residence, Jesus’ Street, Iluafon quarters, Ayetoro Gbede, Kogi State.

Speaking during the church service after his late mother’s internment, Melaye said she was his greatest asset and motivator in everything.

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State on Monday sacked the candidate of the member representing Ikwo\Ezza South Federal Constituency, Lazarus Ogbee.

Ogbee was declared winner of the election conducted on 23rd February 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Tribunal headed by Justice Sika Henry Aprioku also declared his opponent and plaintiff in the matter, Chinedu Ogar of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) as the winner of the election.
Ogar had gone to court to challenge the results of the election claiming that his votes were erroneously reduced by INEC to favour of Ogbee.



The court agreed with him and restored the voter canceled in over 10,000 wards earlier canceled by INEC in some wards Ikwo and in Onueke Urban in Ezza South.


The final results of the election should be 36,238 votes for the APC as against PDP’s 33,263 votes.
The Tribunal also directed INEC to immediately issue the APC candidate certificate of return and withdraw the one issued earlier to the PDP candidate.

A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, has said that he considered suicide due to alleged persecution he was subjected to after he left office in 2015.

In his new book “Burden of Service” yet to be released, Adoke named Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu; and Senator Ali Ndume as some of his persecutors, Igbere TV reports.

Adoke said in the book obtained by newsmen: “I walked to the terrace of my rented semi-detached maisonette in The Hague, The Netherlands. I looked down. Plunging a few metres seemed to offer an instant relief instead of waiting endlessly for my vindication.

“I would become totally blank to shame and sorrow within seconds. I would never have to worry about the lies and the persecution again.

“My blood would be on the hands of those who hounded me to my death. They would live the rest of their lives with a bleeding conscience, assuming that they had any such thing. Death, rather than life, seemed very attractive to me now.”

He said he rescinded his decision and chose to write his story.

Adoke accused Magu of backstabbing him despite alleging contributing to his appointment as acting EFCC chair.

He also said: “I was told an influential governor from the North-West geopolitical zone once asked Magu why he was after me so vindictively.

“Magu reportedly confessed to him that it was the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that directed him to do so.

“He also advised the governor to tell me that I should go and sort out whatever issues I had with Osinbajo.”

So days ago i misplaced my iphone xs max and it was picked up by a good nigerian, at ikate bus stop, my phone fell out of my laps as i came out to check a dent on my car coasted by an oncoming vehicles...

And for good 7 hours i kept calling my phone to see if any one would pick the call.... But all to no avail, ontill 12midnight that day.

Some one called me.... Apparently i had already used my icould to track the phone and clicked lost phone option....
