Sports / NFF: Pinnick Explains Why FG Can’t Direct Giwa To Takeover Leadership by Nadeemkumi: 3:12pm On Jul 02, 2018
The Federal Government on Monday directed the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to comply with the judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on April 27, 2018, which restored the orders of the Federal High Court, setting aside the purported election into the Amaju Pinnick-led Executive Committee of the NFF held on September 30, 2014.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung said in a statement on Monday that the directive followed a written notification signed for the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice requesting the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure compliance.

The order compels the defendants, including the Minister of Youth and Sports, their servants, agents and privies howsoever, the Inspector General of Police and all law enforcement agencies to forthwith enforce the orders made by the court on 19th September 2014 and 23rd October 2014 and give recognition to the General Assembly Meeting and election of the NFF held on 26th August 2014 under the leadership of Amb Chris Giwa pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed in this case.

But Pinnick reacted swiftly through his lawyers, stressing that the directive by the Minister of Sports is null, void and of no effect as FIFA has maintained that the same matter has been taken to the highest Court of Sports Arbitration in Switzerland by same individuals and they have lost out.

Coming after last weekend’s massacre of over a hundred persons in Plateau State, President of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, has again spoken out in condemnation of the mindless killings in some parts of the country, lamenting how cows are now valued more than human lives in Nigeria.

Speaking during during one of the church’s recent programmes, he fired at the killer herdsmen and their sponsors, stressing that self-defence is the right of every Nigerian and that the country is not a Fulani Republic.

The fiery preacher cursed the sponsors of those killing and maiming lives in Nigeria, wondering why the herdsmen who are brazen in their actions are not been confronted by the government.

Religion / Buhari Govt Pursuing Anti-christian Agenda, Christianity May Cease - NCEF by Nadeemkumi: 8:28am On Jun 23, 2018
A group of Christians under the auspices of National Christian Elders Forum, spearheaded by a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Y. Danjuma (retd.), and Solomon Asemota SAN, has warned that the present generation of Christians in Nigeria may cease to exist in 25 years from now (2043), beginning from 2018.

While pointing out that the present generation of Christians faces the risk of being the last set of Christians in Nigeria, they demanded the restructuring of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, before the 2019 general elections.

While pointing out that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is openly pursuing an anti-Christian agenda, the organisation warned that if the current faulty structure of CAN is carried into 2019, it might be too late to preserve Christianity in Nigeria.

After his victory in the 2015 elections, President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly called Adams Oshiomhole to describe him as a “lion” for standing with him at the presidential election despite tremendous pressure brought on the then Edo state governor not to work against a fellow South-South candidate in the person of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

It has emerged that after he came on-board as governor of Edo state, there were immense pressures on Oshiomhole to defect to the PDP on the prism that the South-South must remain a PDP enclave...

Nairaland / General / Why Buhari’s June 12 honour Is Masterstroke Of Mischief, Illegal – Ben Nwabueze by Nadeemkumi: 8:20am On Jun 16, 2018
The Chairman, the Patriots as well as Project Nigeria Movement, Prof. Ben Nwabueze SAN, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari was trying to redeem his waning goodwill by proclaiming June 12 as the Democracy Day.

While dismissing the move by the President which has been called a masterstroke in some quarters as a masterstroke of mischief, he said the President may have been “motivated by the public interest or by a political desire to secure the votes of Nigerians in the 2019 election, especially the votes of people of the South-West or to sow the seed of division among the members of the National Assembly in order to scuttle the threat to impeach him or to throw the country into turmoil or to smear the polity with the taint of illegality”.

Recall that Buhari had on June 6th announced the conferment of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, the highest honour in the country on MKO Abiola, while the investiture held on June 12. The President, in a statement he personally signed, also declared June 12 would replace May 29 as Democracy Day.

Reacting in a statement he personally signed on Friday, Nwabueze, who also leads Igbo Leaders of Thought, described the declaration as “unconstitutional” and a masterstroke of mischief...

President Donald Trump of the United States on Thursday informed Kim Jong Un of North Korea that their planned June 12 meeting in Singapore would not hold, basing his decision to put off the summit on the North Korean leader’s “tremendous anger and open hostility”.

In the letter, he thanked his North Korean counterpart for the “wonderful dialogue” that had developed in recent weeks between the two nations while leaving the door open to a rescheduled summit in the future.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Wednesday sounded an alarm that the Offa armed robbery suspects were being suddenly transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja with the ulterior motive by police authorities to implicate him in the heinous crime.

Addressing his colleagues at the Senate, Saraki stated that his home state governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed told him last night that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris ordered that transfer of the suspects from Kwara state to the police headquarters in Abuja with a view to making them alter their statements and implicate him.

He claimed that Idris is doing this to extract a pound of flesh in response to the Senate’s recent declaration that the IGP is not qualified and competent to hold any public office, within and outside the country and that he is an enemy of Nigerian democracy.

Religion / Pastor Adeboye Speaks About 2019 Elections; Bishop Asked Him Who Will Win by Nadeemkumi: 7:09am On May 05, 2018
Benue, other killings may destroy Nigeria, Pastor Adeboye warns

Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has warned that if Nigeria must live, the killings around the country must stop.

Mr Adeboye said this when he paused his sermon at the church’s May Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp last night to call on the congregation of thousands of people to join him in praying for the end of killings in the country.

He also said when a bishop of another church asked him who would win the 2019 election, he replied that unless the killings stopped the 2019 elections may not hold because people would be scared to go out to vote.

“When people are not sure about their safety how would they go out in parts of the country where killing is rampant to vote,” he said.

He, however, explained that the threat to elections was his personal reasoning and not a prophecy.

Recalling the effect of the killing of 17 people, including two priests in Benue State last month, he said it threw him into a sad mood, prompting his wife, Folu Adeboye, to ask him in Germany, where they were holding a programme of the church, why he was not his usual cheerful self.

“As a leader people from various denominations call Daddy, the 27 people killed were my children who were in a church or returning from a church programme,” he said he told his wife, who had not heard the news then. “As a father, I naturally became sad over that.”

Two priests and 15 other people were killed in an attack by armed herdsmen who invaded St. Ignatius Quasi Parish Ukpor-Mbalom in Ayar-Mbalom community of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue on a Tuesday morning. No fewer than 100 houses in the community were also razed in the attack.

A week after, about 10 people who were returning from morning mass were murdered by suspected herdsmen in military uniform in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area.

The attacks have continued in Benue and many other parts of the country. In March, Mr Adeboye visited Benue State, where he expressed displeasure with the mindless killings of people in the state and other parts of the country. He confessed he wept when he saw the people weeping over the loss of lives and property.

“Of course, no man of God will see a mass burial anywhere and not feel the pains of the people affected,” he said

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai on Wednesday announced the deployment of Army troops to Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger and Kaduna states to tackle the security challenges there via an operation codenamed Exercise AYEM AKPATUMA billed to run from February 15 to March 31, 2018.

The deployment is coming on the heels of persistent clashes between farmers and herdsmen and other acts of criminality in those states which have resulted to several deaths and destruction of property worth several billions of naira particularly in Benue and Taraba states.

The COAS, who announced this at a press conference at the Army headquarters in Abuja, said the troops will carry out special operations in the affected states in conjunction with other sister security agencies from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps among others.

He said the exercise is necessitated by increased spate of armed banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling in Kaduna and Niger states as well as other sundry crimes in Kogi State and herdsmen/farmers clashes and attacks on innocent villagers in Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa states by armed militias.

Politics / Obasanjo Says Some Leaders Don’t Understand Basic Economics by Nadeemkumi: 8:24am On Feb 07, 2018
Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday stated that it is unfortunate that many of the nation’s leaders do not have basic economic skills which, according to him, is one of the reasons why the country has not recorded much progress.

Speaking at the 15th annual leadership symposium organised by the Center for Values in Leadership, CVL, in Lagos, he said it has become imperative that the country transitions to a popular movement which would give the people a feeling that power is in their hands.

Obasanjo, who was the special guest of honour at the lecture, said, "the three ingredients of success are leadership, governance and development. Leaders should understand the world we live in; they should not live their lives in ignorance of what is happening around them.

“Any leader that wants to be successful must have a good knowledge of the economy but some of our leaders do not even understand what demand and supply, which is the most basic aspect of economics. In Nigeria, we are not there yet, but, we would be deceiving ourselves if we do not speak home truths.

The Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called on Fulani herdsmen residing in other parts of the country, especially Benue and Taraba states, to relocate to Kano where they would be treated with dignity since the state has vast grazing land to accommodate them and their cattle.

He stated this on Sunday while inspecting the vaccination of over one million cattle and other small animals’ free-of-charge at Kadawa artificial insemination centre in Garum Malam Local Government Area of the state as part of activities to mark the 2017/2018 livestock vaccination programme.

While condemning the “recent killings during the clashes between farmers and herdsmen,” Ganduje, who is a Fulani, stated that the crises were unacceptable.

He pointed out that Fulani herdsmen of Kano origin do not move out of Kano to other states because we have enough grazing land, ranches and traditional stock route.

The governor said, “Fulani herdsmen of Kano origin do not move out of Kano to other states because we have enough grazing land, ranches and traditional stock route. They don’t have any reason to move out of the state. We take care of them and we accord them the respect and dignity they deserve.

Politics / Obasanjo Slams National Assembly For Not Curbing Buhari’s Lopsided Appointments by Nadeemkumi: 12:08pm On Feb 02, 2018
Former president, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo has observed that federal character principle was not followed in the appointment of the nation’s service chiefs, even as he berated the National Assembly and the Federal Character Commission, FCC, for failing to check the excesses of President Muhammadu Buhari in the uneven distribution of public offices.

He also stated that his exchange of pleasantries with Buhari in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, during the African Union, AU, summit, did not in any way detract from the significance and seriousness of his special press statement which called on the President not to contest the 2019 elections.

Obasanjo stated this on Thursday at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, shortly after the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, was inaugurated in Ogun State, and he was registered as a member of the movement.

He pointed out that his open letter to Buhari was not borne out malice or ‘bad belle’ as he never condemned the current administration in totality but commended the president in areas where he had performed creditably.

The ex-president, who addressed scores of stalwarts and potential members of the CNM who came for the launch in Abeokuta, said: “Last week, I issued a statement which I did not do lightly or frivolously but out of deep concern for the situation of our country.
