Just listening to Labaran Maku on BBC radio. The man has denied being a student in 1988. Claims that the reports to the effect that he was a student leader who led anti-SAP riots in 1988 are false!

They should ask him about the degree of corruption vis-a-vis subsidy. I mean the amount of money stolen from Nigeria is more than the subsidy. It is time for people to stop paying lip-service to fighting corruption. The newly elected Local Government Chairman in my area is already buying and renovating houses. I am sure you cannot explain this with economic theory but it is happening in reality. Theory is one thing, service delivery is another thing altogether.

I am sure it is not Sanusi's job to call this fellow to order. If he is indeed in your LG, why not raise the necessary awareness in your community to call him to order? If correction must start, let it start from the grassroots! We are castigating the federal government yet we let the local officials get away with murder!!!!

Weren't they supposed to address security issues in their "emergency" session? If you ask me, they were playing out a well-rehearsed script! To claim that the president had travelled in two airplanes (I am still looking for proof, preferably pictorial - that SA newspaper article just does not do it for me!). Those who had different opinions were shouted down, proposal to prosecute corrupt subsidy beneficiaries unadopted, It was an unimpressive showing in all!

They have been receiving massive allocations from the centre for years. What have they got to show for it? Do the PhD, work as a consultant alongside, especially on projects that can eventually feed into your PhD research. Get it over and done with. Thing is once you have your degree in what seems to be a lucrative field, you can comfortably negotiate for whatever positions you are offered. Use the opportunity that you have now. It should be based on MERIT that way the University students will be taught by the BEST academics available. A Quota system in the context of education is discriminatory, encourages mediocracy and ultimately leads to a fall in standards.
