Nairaland GeneralHighness Pushes Young Man To Cut Off Own Penis Read More At Http://www.herald.ng by Nagisa(op): 1:00am On Jun 04, 2017
A young man has reportedly cut off his own penis due to highness.

The young man’s father who is distraught by the move reported that his son got high on a potent form of cannabis and ended up severing his own penis.

The unnamed man told BBC that his son after getting high on cannabis became paranoid and endured psychotic episodes after smoking the illegal drug.

He said: “He switched from a very bright bubbly lad to … I can only describe him as a waste of space and I’ve had that conversation with him and he understands that.”

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, the father added: “He became delusional, he used to sleep with a tennis racket in his bed because he thought people were living in the walls. I remember one instance he was telling us all about the fact that mermaids exist and it was just a whole tragic trip down a hill.”

Emma Barnett, the host of the show however asked about a psychotic episode the young man endured in which he cut off his own penis which the father described as “devastating.”

“It was absolutely devastating, you can’t imagine anything of that nature happening.”

“The whole episode was just surreal actually … it was almost as if peering in through a window and it was happening to somebody else.”

The concerned father revealed that his son is still recovering physically with more surgeries in view although he is in a “really good form” mentally.

Noting that his son has given up on alcohol and other vices, the father added: “He actually has no real memory of anything that happened. Maybe that’s for the best.”

HealthDoctors Warn Against Bizarre New Trend For Tightening Vaginas Read More At Http: by Nagisa(op): 6:39pm On Jun 02, 2017
Vaginal care is a very important facet of every woman’s lifestyle, with new trends continually coming to the fore.

However, women have been recently warned against trying a bizarre new trend that suggests using ground-up wasp nests to tighten and rejuvenate their vaginas.

According to the New York post, the trend involves the use of oak galls which are nests that house wasp eggs as a natural way of cleaning female genitals.

The product reportedly is crushed into a paste and applied topically, with one listing on Etsy, which has now been removed, claiming it can improve a woman’s sex life.

They are also being advertised by online retailers as helping to “heal episiotomy cuts, rejuvenate the uterine wall and clean out the vagina” after childbirth, though there are warnings that it can “burn” when applied.

However, gynecologist Jen Gunter is warning women not to get sucked in by the new trend after branding it “dangerous” — saying the practice is using “drying agents” to tighten the vagina.

Writing on her blog, she said: “Drying the vaginal mucosa increases the risk of abrasions during sex (not good) and destroys the protective mucous layer (not good).”

“It could also wreak havoc with the good bacteria. This is a dangerous practice with real potential to harm.”

“Here’s a pro-tip, if something burns when you apply it to the vagina it is generally bad for the vagina.”

But it’s not the first time the gynecologist has warned against using herbal remedies for the vagina.

Last year, she had similarly spoke out against the womb detox trend which claimed to help women with endometriosis, ovarian cysts, thrush and fibroids.

Bags of perfumed herbs, known as Herbal Womb Detox Pearls, were being promoted as a health boost and women were being told to insert three of the balls into the vagina for 72 hours.

But Gunter explained further: “Leaving a product that is not designed for prolonged vaginal use (and these are not) in the vagina is a risk for toxic shock syndrome. Just don’t do it.”

Nairaland GeneralTwo Chibok Girls Graduate From U.S. High School by Nagisa(op): 6:26pm On Jun 02, 2017
Two Chibok schoolgirls who escaped from their Boko Haram abductors in 2014 have graduated from a high school in Washington DC.

The two girls, known by their first names, Debbie and Grace, on Thursday graduated after completing junior year (11th grade) and senior year (12th grade) at a prestigious private international school in the Washington metro area in America.

This was disclosed through a press release on Friday by Emmanuel Ogebe, a US-based human rights lawyer and the International Director of Education Must Continue Initiative, a Nigerian non-governmental organization involved in the care of the girls.

According to the release, Debbie and Grace were among 57 girls who escaped from the terrorists after the mass abduction of almost 300 of them at Government Girls State School in April 2014. .

Unlike most of their colleagues who jumped out of the trucks in which they were being herded away into captivity, the two girls arrived the terrorists camp in Sambisa forest before escaping back home in a terrifying journey that took about a week with their captors in hot pursuit.

They were the last to escape until Amina Ali also escaped last year after two years with the terrorists. The two schoolgirls were among a dozen Nigerian girls sponsored to schools abroad by the NGO with the help of Mr. Ogebe.

The NGO is run by victims of Boko Haram helping other victims uto overcome the impact of the insurgency. “By this graduation, Debbie and Grace became the first escaped Chibok girls to graduate from an American high school with diplomas after completing and meeting academic standards,” Mr. Ogebe stated

Nairaland GeneralCatholic Bishop Commits Suicide By Jumping Into River, Leaves Cryptic Suicide No by Nagisa(op): 1:04am On Jun 02, 2017
search has however been launched for the recovery of the cleric’s body after the Bishop’s land cruiser jeep with registration plate number CE 9503V was found on the Ebebda bridge about 90km from Yaounde.

Journalducameroun.com reported that the handwritten suicide note simply read “Je suis dans l’eau”, translated into English as “I am in the water”.

image: http://www.herald.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/bishop2.jpg

The Governor of the Centre region, Naseri Paul Bea, the Divisional Officer of the locality and other administrative authorities were reported to have rushed to the bridge as soon as the news broke.

The Divisional Officer, D.O, of Ebebda while speaking to newsmen said: “I immediately ran to the scene and saw for myself. The car is truly here on the bridge and the note the Bishop left suggests he jumped into the river.”

Speaking on the incident which was reported to have occured at around 1pm, the DO further added that there was no damage whatsoever to the car, an indication which rules out the possibility of violence.

“His collaborators told us he left the diocese yesterday at about 11:30pm but no one knew where he was going to. But from the direction his car is facing, one can conclude he was going to Yaounde.”

Nairaland GeneralSingle Sex Pregnancy: Gay Dads Expectant Of First Child Read More At Http://www. by Nagisa(op): 9:06pm On Jun 01, 2017
A pair of gay dads has spoken of their delight as they prepare to welcome their first biological child.

Biff Chaplow and Trystan Reese are already adoptive parents to two young children Riley and Hailey, but the couple had always longed for a baby of their own.

Trystan, who is transgender, first managed to conceive in 2016 but they suffered the heartbreak of a miscarriage at six weeks. They had considered waiting up to a year before trying again.

But because of the medical complications of Trystan having to go off testosterone, they decided to continue. And the married couple, who live in Portland, Oregon, have confirmed Trystan is due to give birth in the summer.

image: http://www.herald.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/MSP_MDG_010617family_3145JPG.jpg

Credit: Daily Mail UK
In a post on their website, Trystan said that he felt some people are interested to know why he wanted to become pregnant as a transgender person, but were too afraid to ask.

He said that some people think “trans people were born into the wrong bodies, and we really hate our bodies, and that’s why we need to transition.”

“For me, just transitioning normally – taking testosterone so that I have a beard and my voice is deep as it’s ever gonna get – and appear like a man… that’s enough for me.

“I never felt like I needed to change my body.

“And I for sure do not hate my body

“I feel like my body is awesome, I feel like it’s a gift to have been born with the body that I did.

“So if you can start to understand that, then it starts to make more sense that it would not seem totally bizarre for me to want to create and carry a baby.

Nairaland GeneralDear President Buhari, You Have Broken Our Hearts – Chude Jideonwo by Nagisa(op): 8:05pm On May 30, 2017
Two years ago to this day, you brought me to tears.

You were in our nation’s capital, being inaugurated as the first Nigerian in our nation’s history to win the presidency from an opposition party. I was far away, in Lagos; but I had a cherished privilege: to be the one to publish the very first tweet on your account as President of the Federal of Nigeria.

And as my colleague, Oluwatobi Soyombo watched, I threw my head back on the chair, and I began to weep.

I couldn’t help myself. This moment was too big, was too strong; was too much.

They were tears of joy. But they were also tears of relief, personal and collective. Personal relief from the fear of the consequences of my decision – after having readied myself for four years of repercussion for supporting so publicly a man who was hardly likely to win; collective relief that we would not be facing four more years of the triumphal leadership of the corrupt and the reprobate; relief that we had just dodged a bullet.

Barely six months before I had never met you, never stayed in the same space you, didn’t even believe in you. The one thing I knew was that, for this young man, it was anybody but Goodluck Jonathan. But then you filled me with such hope, because you appeared to finally carry on your shoulders the burdens of an exhausted, furious generation.

I was as furious as anyone. Actually, I was more furious than most. Furious enough to burn bridges, risk backlash, annoy friends and family; to cross the divide to vote and work passionately for a man I had voted for reluctantly, even bitterly, only four years before.

It was like a miracle. I never believed this was going to happen. I never believed an opposition leader could win an election in our country; I never believed that citizens could make this change happen in my lifetime.

It was so hard to believe that I continued to argue with my team, right up to time that the incumbent president conceded. Our data already projected your win, but I refused to be seduced, memories of Karl Rove making a fool of himself on Fox News over a quixotic Mitt Romney win in 2012 haunting me. “Push all the votes from the South-East and the South-South to Jonathan’s column,” I said to my colleague Joachim MacEbong. “Assume Buhari gets zero votes there. What we have now is too deceptive. An opposition candidate can’t win with such a margin.”

I couldn’t believe it, until it happened. Some days, even now, I wake up and I almost still can’t believe it.

From 2010, when I became active in civic spaces, this had been the dream: to have a citizen-led movement that could put the fear of God into the political establishment.

I had spent days on the streets, in protest, at risk to life and business. I had sat in countless meetings and strategy sessions. I had spent millions of my own money invested in this vision. I had spent time in private and group prayer, shouting in pain, sobbing in frustration, crying out for all of this to not be for nothing, for some intervention, for some sign from God that our country would be better, even in our lifetimes. I didn’t believe it could be this dramatic, I didn’t believe it could come to pass.

But it did. And when it did, it was enough to overturn my theology of God’s agenda for politics. Because it certainly felt like an answer to our prayers. It certainly felt like divine intervention. It absolutely felt like the heavens had heard Nigeria’s heart cry. It had to be. This was a miracle. You were a miracle. You were a change, desperately sought. A change, desperately won.

But it wasn’t really about you, Mr. President. This was never about you.

You were a symbol of our aspiration, you were an expression of a democratic ideal: that the citizen is the most powerful force in any democracy. You were a symbol that we mattered, that our voices mattered. That if we organized, we could defeat powerful forces. That if we came together, nothing was truly beyond our grasp, no possibility beyond the reach of a determined population. That we, truly, are the ones that we have been waiting for.

For me, after 10 years of nation building aspirations and five years of activist engagement, you presented the unique opportunity for to all come together. For the networks, and the platforms and the reputation and the skills and the creativity that I had to come to a head, to join the effort to make change happen. And there were many Nigerians who took that risk also, because we saw a ray of sunlight.

We thought this was worth the risk. This had to be worth the risk.

The many people who worked incredibly hard to get you into office, but then stayed aside and asked for no benefit in return thought it was worth that risk. It was the reason I said no to an offer to join this administration in its first two years, same as many that I know. We couldn’t dare corrupt this one sacrifice – this gift – with the appearance of self-interest.

But it’s not just about those who can afford to keep their distance. It’s more about the many whom your inchoate policies hurt the most – the people you told us you were running for.

Remember that woman who wrapped up her entire savings and donated to your campaign? Do you remember her, sir?

What would you say to her, if you saw her today?

I write this today because I don’t know what happens next.

I don’t know if you are well, or how well you are. You haven’t treated us, your citizens, your voters, with the respect of telling us what ails you, how it ails you and how it affects your ability to do your job. Instead you treat us with the scorn and contempt that Aso Rock seems to breed – the contempt of silence.

Look at the nation you left behind, as you duck for cover in the United Kingdom: Healthcare so shabby even you can’t rely on it for your own well being. Schools still exactly in the state at which you met them 24 months ago. An economy in shambles. An anti-corruption fight running around in circles. A nation fragmented, with the one time since the 1960s where Biafra has become a dominant narrative – courtesy of tone-deaf ethnic-coloured politics. Businesses attacked by a combination of violent tax authorities and ham-fisted fiscal policies, which seem to punish citizens for the failings of past governments and inadequacies of this one. Indeed, the anecdotal stories of businesses folded up, investments dried up jobs lost and dreams shattered have become the defining testimony of your leadership.

You have taken the hopes and the dreams and the faith that we invested in you, and you have shattered them into many tiny pieces.

Is this fair? Is this right? Is this why you ran? Is this what those four attempts were about? Is this the plan you had? Is this the vision you shared? Is this what this was all about – just being president?

It is easy for us to hide under the shadow of your acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, who makes it easy to prove citizens right, that we made the proper choice to vote for change and to upset the old system in 2015. It is convenient to turn to him as justification for our wisdom.

But the truth is that, for me, it isn’t. You are the man with the mandate. You are the man with the ultimate responsibility.

To be honest, there is no regret in voting for you. Even if everything failed, even if your acting president had been a failure, there would be no regret in voting for you.

We had a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. As it turns out, we chose the deep blue sea.

If that time came again, I would make no other choice, even with everything I know now. With everything I have, and everything I believe and everything I hold dear, I am passionate about the fact that, despite the disappointment you have presented to us, voting what you represented for president was a crucial step in re-making Nigeria, in the long term.

I just wish you had made it easier, with your performance, with visionary leadership, with actions and decisions, to justify that choice. I wish we could point to the short term as well as the long term as the vindication of that choice. I wish you had risen up to the occasion, Mr. President.

Yes, you care for Nigeria. I know that. Or at least I think I do. But that doesn’t matter. It’s neither here nor there. Love is not just something you say, love is something you do. And there is no evidence, today, of your love.

We didn’t vote for you to try your best; we didn’t vote for you to complain to no end, no. We voted for you to make change happen.

And no matter what your remaining rabid supporters, either blinded still by anger at Dr. Jonathan, blinded by the comfort of denial or blinded by proximity to power, say, this is the truth: we are disappointed in you. This is not the change we voted for.

Of course, there is still a year to make it happen before the politicking fully kicks in, but not today.

Instead, disappointment, shame, sadness – that has become your legacy.

And it breaks my heart sir.

It breaks so many hearts, home and abroad. Those who believed passionately in you. Those who didn’t believe but decided to give you a chance. Those who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for you but still celebrated the possibility of change. Those who rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

Your performance, your failings, the ineptitude, it has severely broken their hearts. It has severely broken my heart.

I sincerely hope, in your quiet moments of truth, that it breaks your heart too.

Kim said: “I just thought, ‘Holy s**t, I’m 30 years old, I better get this together, I better get married’.

I think a lot of girls do go through that where they freak out thinking they’re getting old and have to figure it out, all their friends are having kids. It was more of that situation. But I knew on honeymoon it wasn’t going to work out.”

Nairaland GeneralFormer FCT Minister’s Son Re-arraigned On Amended Charges by Nagisa(op): 5:04pm On May 30, 2017
Former FCT Minister’s son, Shamsudeen Bala, was on Tuesday re-arraigned at the Federal High Court Abuja, for an alleged 15-count amended charge bordering on money laundering.

Bala, alongside four companies, were arraigned on Feb. 1 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on a 15-count charge, bordering on money laundering to the tune of N1.1 billion.

The four companies are: Bird Trust Agro Allied Ltd, Intertrans Global Logistics Ltd, Diakin Telecommunications Ltd, and Bal-Vac Mining Nigeria Ltd.

At the resumed hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Ben Ikani, informed the court of an amended charge dated May 25, which was served on the defense.

The amended charge according to Ikani was to specify the various amount of money in local and foreign currencies found in the accused person’s account number 0000895020 domiciled with Standard Chartered bank.

Chris Uche (SAN), the Defense Counsel, however informed the court that the prosecution gave him a copy of the amended charge only this mornin, saying it was against the practice.

He said that although the matter was adjourned for some months, the prosecution did not do the needful.

“This is more serious than how the prosecution is seeing it, he is trying to prosecute the first defendant on a matter he was not arraigned for, I urge the court for more time to study the charge,’’ Uche argued.

The court agreed with the defence and faulted the prosecution for not serving the defendants with the amended charge on time.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the amended charges when read to him and his counsel urged the court to allow him enjoy the existing bail conditions earlier granted.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, in his ruling held that the defendant shall continue to enjoy the bail conditions earlier granted him and adjourned the matter till June 26, for continuation of hearing. (NAN)

Nairaland GeneralTop Three Great Health Benefits Of Sex by Nagisa(op): 9:00pm On May 29, 2017
Sexual activity is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. It is often linked to improved sleep, intimacy and self-esteem.

A healthy sex life generally helps to boost the heart, lower blood pressure and increase the body immunity.

Aside from reproduction, pleasure, and intimacy, sex seems to have a positive impact on many life areas, including work, physical and cognitive performance, marriage, and happiness into our senior years. Sex may also have a positive effect on certain organs and conditions, as well as a preventive effect on some diseases.

According to research, there are physical and psychological health benefits of sex which are listed below

1) Improves immunity

Participating in sex one to two times per week appears to be the optimum frequency to boost the immune system, according to research published in Psychological Reports.

Scientists can test how tough our immune systems are by measuring levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA) in saliva and mucosal linings.

Participating in sex one to two times per week appears to be the optimum frequency to boost the immune system, according to research published in Psychological Reports.

Study authors Carl Charnetski, from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, and his colleague Frank Brennan found that people who had sex once or twice per week had a 30 percent increase in IgA. However, the same results were not seen in individuals who had sex more or less frequently.

2) Good for the heart
Physical activities that exercise the heart are good for your health, and this includes sex. Being sexually aroused increases the heart rate, with the number of beats per minute peaking during orgasm.
Men who have regular sex are 45 percent less likely to develop heart disease.
Men, in particular, have been shown to benefit from the effect of sex on the heart.

A study published in the American Journal of Cardiology, involving men in their 50s, suggested that men who have sex at least twice per week have a 45 percent reduced risk of heart disease, compared with men who have sex less frequently.

3) Lowers blood pressure

Research conducted by Michigan State University and published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that sex in later years might reduce the risk of high blood pressure – at least for women.

Women in the study aged between 57 and 85 years who found sex pleasurable or satisfying were less likely to have hypertension. However, male study participants who had sex once per week or more were twice as likely to experience heart problems than men who were sexually inactive.

In another study published in Behavioral Medicine, researchers found that the act of hugging can help a person to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

According to the American Heart Association, high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke and can also affect your sex life. High blood pressure has an impact on blood flow throughout the body and can prevent enough blood flowing to the pelvis.

She is also seeking an injunction restraining the defendant from passing off or causing others to pass off her professional services and a declaration that she is entitled to her privacy of her correspondence under Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The plaintiff is also seeking an order directing the bank to pay her N20 million for the breach of her privacy by advertising her private correspondence; an order to publish a written apology in two national dailies in Nigeria and in the U.S.; and N2 million as the cost of filing the suit, BBC Nigeria reports.

According to the statement of claims attached to the suit, the plaintiff claimed that she is a reputable international model who had won many laurels within and outside the country, including the ‘Elite Model Look’ 2013 in Nigeria.

Ms Anosike said based on her reputation, Pepsi-Cola Nigeria made her its brand ambassador for Aquafina water.

The plaintiff further averred that her contract with Ford Models Inc took her to the U.S. and that prior to the defendant’s advert of her, she was in negotiations with the company for a renewal of her contract.

But on April 11 last year, according to Ms Anosike, the management of Ford Models summoned her to a meeting on April 12 wherein she was presented with her photo advert procured from the Instagram account of the defendant.

She alleged that the defendant mutilated and edited her professional photo for the said advert uploaded on the internet, adding that based on that action, her contract renewal with the American company has been jeopardised.

But in its statement of defence, the defendant responded that the bank was not a party to the alleged modelling contract between the plaintiff and the American company and was not privy to it.

The bank also stated that the photo in question was sourced from social media for its weekly online motivational and educational series, intended to inspire going online users.

The bank denied using the plaintiff’s photo for any advertisement purposes or for any commercial gain but for purely free educational purpose under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Justice Ibrahim Buba adjourned the matter till June 15 for further hearing.

Nairaland GeneralOsbornegate: Why We Are Yet To Recover $43m Stolen By Amaechi – Wike by Nagisa(op): 10:13pm On May 26, 2017
The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has stated why the state is yet to recover the $43m recently discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from a building in Ikoyi, ‎Lagos.

Wike said he was currently working with some lawyers to make sure the money was recovered

The governor had alleged that the forty-three million dollars was part of loot stashed by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

According to him, the amount was what was left of the over three hundred dollars sale of some assets belonging to the Rivers State Government by Amaechi, who is now a Minister in the Federal government.

“The issue is who kept the money at the Ikoyi residence. The money was kept there by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi”, he alleged.

Amaechi in his reaction, however, denied Wike’s claim, describing him as a man who has gone insane.

Speaking on Channels Sun Rise Daily, a programme, Wike insisted that the money belonged to Rivers and that no amount of threats would stop them from recovering it.

Asked why the FG has not released the money to him, Wike said, “You and I know these people will never agree that the money belongs to Rivers, even when they know the bitter truth.

“They want it in a hard way and we are ready to use every means to recover that money.

“Is it not embarrassing that the EFCC has not come out to tell us who owns the money? Everybody knows the money belongs to Rivers but they don’t want to release it.

“No amount of intimidation will stop us from recovering that money that Amaechi and co stole. We have all the evidence and we will present them at the right time.”

Nairaland GeneralBayelsa Targets 7,000 Temporary Jobs From $50m World Bank Development Loan Read by Nagisa(op): 9:38pm On May 26, 2017
The Bayelsa government on Wednesday said it planned to create at least 7,000 temporary jobs from the implementation of projects funded from the 50 million dollara development facility from the World Bank.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the loan stock is part of World Bank’s intervention with 200 million dollars in four states in the Niger Delta region mainly Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers and Delta.

Addressing newsmen after a project tour of completed and ongoing interventions, Mr Ayens Adogu, Project Cordinator of State Expenditure For Results (SEFOR) Bayelsa, said more than 3,000 jobs had so far been created in the first phase of the project.

He said that there were indications that the state would exceed the targetted 7,000 at the end of the second phase of the programme following the successes so far recorded in the first phase.

The youth, according to him, were engaged to provide labour for the concrete road projects for a period of one year and being paid a monthly stipend of N20,000 while a new set of youths are engaged at the end of the year to rotate the jobs among the unemployed.

Adogu said that the development of some micro projects were implemented with direct labour approach, to engage unemployed youths who were trained in skills and entrepreneurship, to enable them to seek self employment at the end of the temporary jobs.

He said that part of the conditions of the temporary one-year jobs included a compulsory saving which could only be withdrawn at the end of the contract to assist as start-up capital at the end of the one-year contract.

He explained that SEEFOR project was a collaboration between the Bayelsa Government, World Bank and European Union to fund quick impact development projects like concrete walkways, streets, market stalls, craft centres and health centres .

According to him, benefiting communities are selected based on needs and readiness of the communities to contribute 10 percent of the N10 million set aside for each benefiting community.

Adogu said that some 108 micro public works projects had so far been completed in the first phase of the project while SEEFOR just advertised expression of interest for contractors for 136 new projects.

The Project Coordinator said that the projects had impacted positively on the lives of beneficiaries, especially in the rural communities by kick starting economic activities in processing of agricultural produce like cassava and fish.

“The government of Bayelsa is using the World Bank credit to reflate the economy of the state and boost economic activities to improve the living standards of the people.

“The impact of the project has touched the state’s economy; for instance, the payment of over 3,000 hitherto unemployed youths involves 10 banks and not to mention the award of small contracts for the over 108 micro public works projects across the state.

He said that the 50 million dollars development facility had a 40-year tenor and 10-year moratorium at concessionary interest rate. (NAN)

SportsWhy I Dropped Wayne Rooney – England Boss Read More At Http://www.herald.ng/drop by Nagisa(op): 9:22pm On May 25, 2017
England manager, Gareth Southgate has justified his Wayne Rooney’s exclusion from the England squad.

England’s all-time leading goalscorer, who has 119 caps, has been overlooked for June’s matches against Scotland and France because of the “good form” of other players according to Southgate.

I can’t dress it up any other way. Other players are in really good form and deserve to keep their place

Southgate said: “We’ve a lot of players playing exceptionally well in the area of the pitch that Wayne plays.”

Rooney has only started 15 league games for Manchester United this season.

The 31-year-old – with 53 international goals – was also not included in Southgate’s previous squad in March for the matches against Lithuania and Germany because he was not fully fit after a leg injury.

But even when fit, his appearances at club level have been reduced since manager Jose Mourinho took over at United last summer.

“I said last time [in March] that he was a bit short of matches – he’s had some matches now but we’ve got players that have done really, really well for us in Adam Lallana and Dele Alli,” added Southgate.

“We’ve got Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane coming back and Jermain Defoe who did really well for us last time, while Jamie Vardy’s been in excellent form in the second half of the season.

“I can’t dress it up any other way. Other players are in really good form and deserve to keep their place.”

England travel to Hampden Park on 10 June for their qualifier against Scotland. Southgate’s side lead Group F with 13 points after five games. Scotland are fourth with seven points.

They then travel to France for a friendly on 13 June.

Nairaland GeneralOsinbajo Orders Ngige To Work Out Modalities On N56,000 Minimum Wage Read More A by Nagisa(op): 9:09pm On May 25, 2017
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has directed the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, to put processes in place for the setting up of a tripartite committee that will deliberate on theN56,000 national minimum wage proposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The committee which will comprise of 29 members had been on the front burner since last year with labour accusing government of deliberately reneging on its earlier agreement.

The committee would consider options open to all stakeholders for a new national minimum wage to come on stream.

The resolution was fallout of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by Acting President Osinbajo on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa.

Ngige, who briefed State House correspondents on the latest development, explained that the tripartite committee would review the hitherto existing 2011 minimum wage as well as prescribe to government the areas of palliative that will enable the economy cushion the effect of the increase in the pump price of fuel.

The tripartite committee membership will comprise of five persons from government, six state governors representing each of the geo-political zones, while employers (NECA) comprising Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Chambers of Commerce as well as federation of trade unions would make up the rest.

In recent times, workers in the public service have become agitated over the paltry N18,000 minimum wage they have been receiving coupled with rising inflation. They have argued that it was no longer sustainable.

The deregulation policy in the downstream sector of the oil industry that resulted in the increase of fuel pump price from N86.50 to N145 also came up for discussions at the FEC meeting.

In May last year, the hike in price of fuel had prompted the NLC to embark on a partial strike, a development that later culminated in the setting up of a palliative committee to cushion the effects on the masses.

The palliatives committee submitted its report to the council on Wednesday.

“Council deliberated on the report of the joint committee of government on one side and the labour federation of NLC and TUC.

“If you recall on May 11, 2016, there was a deregulation of oil and gas sector in Nigeria and this resulted in increase we had in the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol and as a result of that, the labour federation kicked against the increase and said that if even the increase will be there government should put in place mechanism to make sure that we do not have further increases.

“In that regard, they said PPPRA regulatory board should be put in place. They also asked for a review of the minimum wage available to workers in the country in order to enable them have better purchasing power.

“Prior to the increase, they have made a demand of the N56,000 monthly as the lowest paid wage to any Nigerian worker which we call minimum wage.
Thirdly, they said they would need some palliatives to cushion the effects of increase in pump price of petrol, transportation allowances, among others.

“So, government put in place that committee. That committee finished its work on April 21 and handed the report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“At council, I presented the report with the various recommendations therein and I am happy to let you know that government has approved the setting up of a national minimum wage committee comprising of 29 persons with a chairman and a secretary.

“Composition of this committee is that the Federal Government will contribute five persons from the public sector, the state governors who are major stakeholders will contribute six governors, one from each geo-political zone. Then the labour federations will present eight persons and the organised employers’ association represented by Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Chamber of Commerce and Small and Medium Enterprises will jointly produce eight persons. Government will appoint the chair and the secretary”.

He referred to Uber as one of the most stupid investments in history with a high probability of going bankrupt.

“When I look at Uber … I think of it as one of the most stupid investments in history,” the Australian Financial Review reported him as saying. “The probability of this business going bankrupt in a decade is 99%.”

And the competition is coming because the barriers to entry to ride-sharing are low.

“All they do is keep increasing their private-market valuation, and someone always says, I’ll put some money up, because next time they raise, it’ll be at a higher price,” Douglass says.

Uber was founded in 2009 in San Francisco and now operates in 58 countries and is valued at more than $60 billion.

Douglass and Chris Mackay founded Magellan a decade ago on the investing principles of Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway.

The 2016 BRW Rich list shows Douglass’ wealth at about $376 million.

HealthWhy Buhari Did Not Allow Nigerian Doctors Treat Him – Health Minister by Nagisa(op): 6:38pm On May 24, 2017
The Nigerian Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole has opened up on why the President, Muhammadu Buhari had to fly out of the country for his medical treatment instead of staying in the country and having Nigerian doctors tend to his health.

Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole who also assured Nigerians and the international community that there is no cause for alarm over the president’s health noted that he chose to fly overseas to the UK because of his rapport with the foreign doctors.

While revealing the the president’s health issues are complex and need the expertise of his foreign doctors, the health minister said: “One thing we must realise is that health is a complex issue. There’s what we call patient-doctor relationship; there is also a bond between the patient and the doctor and these are things we can’t play with.”

The health minister who is a professor of surgery further added: “I used to have patients in Ibadan and they still call me, and say ‘we will like to see you’.

“Then I have to say no to them because I’m no longer available and ask, ‘why can’t you see somebody else?’ But many of them are reluctant to do so. That’s the complex thing about health.”

Nairaland GeneralSERAP To Fashola: Order Discos To Provide Pre-paid Meters Read More At Http://w by Nagisa(op): 2:20pm On May 23, 2017
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an open letter to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, SAN requesting him to use his “good offices and leadership position to urgently enforce your directives to electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to provide free pre-paid meters to Nigerians, and end the use of patently illegal and inordinate estimated billing across the country.”

The organization asked Mr Fashola to “take this step within 7 days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter, failing which SERAP will institute appropriate legal proceedings to compel the discharge of your ministerial and statutory duty in this matter in order to ensure completion of metering of unmetered customers and total abolition of estimated billing in the country.”

In the letter dated 22 May 2017 and signed by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni, the organization expressed “concern that while countries like Zambia are subsidising electricity payments to enable consumption by socially and economically vulnerable groups, this government is implicitly promoting the use of unjustifiable estimated billing, and increasing consumer costs. The use of estimated billing is marginalizing Nigerians living in extreme poverty, disproportionately affecting women, children and the elderly, and increasing their vulnerability to discrimination.”

According to the organization, “Excessive billing of customers is arbitrary, unfair, unjust, unreasonable and exploitative of millions of socially and economically vulnerable groups. SERAP is concerned that the apparent failure of your office to exercise due diligence and effective regulatory oversight on DISCOs to ensure full compliance with your directives to provide free pre-paid meters to Nigerians has denied millions of customers regular and uninterrupted access to electricity.”

The letter read in part: “It’s the responsibility of this government and your ministry to ensure that the privatisation of the power sector does not impair in any way, shape, or form access of Nigerians to regular and uninterrupted electricity supply by among others actively promoting the provision of pre-paid meters to all Nigerians particularly the socially and economically vulnerable groups. Nigerians should not be penalized by disconnection or denial of access to electricity because they cannot pay unwarranted estimated bills.”

“It’s unlawful for DISCOs to disconnect electricity supplies on the basis of unpaid estimated bills. This government and your ministry bear responsibility for the failure and/or refusal of DISCOs to provide free pre-paid meters to millions of Nigerians.

“Several years after the country’s power sector was privatized, millions of Nigerian households particularly the socially and economically vulnerable sectors of the population continue to complain about outrageous bills for electricity not consumed, and poor power supply from distribution firms. Despite several directives and deadlines by both your office and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission for DISCOs to provide free pre-paid meters to customers, our information reveals that millions of electricity users across the country remain unmetered.”

“SERAP is concerned that diminished power infrastructure and your ministry’s inability to enforce your directives and regulations on provision of pre-paid meters to Nigerians means that millions of customers continue to be exploited through the use of patently illegal estimated billing by DISCOs.”

“SERAP continues to receive complaints through our helpline against corruption in the electricity sector that majority of consumers still get estimated bills. While electricity supply is for the most part declining, estimated bills continue to go up. In several parts of the country, consumers pay more for electricity than they pay for house rent. The feedbacks we have regularly received suggest that unreliable, inefficient and poor quality of electricity in several parts of the country is majorly responsible for the deplorable living conditions of millions of Nigerians.”

“SERAP argues that access to regular electricity supply is a prerequisite for satisfying basic human needs, improving living standards, maintaining good human health, alleviating poverty and facilitating sustainable development. SERAP notes that Article 14(2)(h) of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to which Nigeria is a state party explicitly recognises electricity as a human right.”

“Similarly, the UN Commission on Sustainable Development has argued that sustainable development is attainable through universal access to cost-effective energy sources. Moreover, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has adjudged the failure of States to provide basic services such as electricity as violating the right to health.”

“SERAP believes that electricity provides a safe means of cooking (through electric stoves) and food preservation (refrigeration). Electricity is therefore essential to agriculture and a prerequisite for food security. Electricity can also be employed to realise the human right to access clean water. Electric power operates pumps and sanitation systems so that drinking water is within the safe physical reach of all individuals and accessible by households, educational institutions and workplaces.”

“SERAP therefore urges you to act diligently and swiftly to enforce your directives, deadlines and regulations on the provision of free pre-paid meters to Nigerians and end the use of patently illegal estimated billing across the country. We also urge to establish independent monitoring teams to regularly monitor the proportion of households across the country with pre-paid meters.”

“Should you fail and/or neglect to act as requested within seven days after the receipt and/or publication of this letter, SERAP will be compelled to pursue appropriate legal action against your ministry to ensure strict enforcement of your directives, deadlines and regulations on provision of free pre-paid meters to Nigerians and an end to estimated billing across the country.”

SportsI Will Be A Failure If I Don’t Win Europa League – Mourinho by Nagisa(op): 1:56am On May 13, 2017
Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho admits the club’s season will be seen as failure if they do not beat Ajax in the Europa League final on May 24.

Mourinho also admitted that he has worked “harder than ever” during his maiden United campaign, which has already featured a League Cup triumph and victory over Leicester City in the Community Shield.

With Manchester United needing to beat Ajax to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, the Portuguese knows he will be criticized by the media if his side succumb to defeat at Stockholm’s Friends Arena.

“I think you, the media, have the right to say [that] and I think it makes sense to say,” he told reporters after United completed a 2-1 aggregate win over Celta Vigo in the semi-finals on Thursday.

“But I don’t feel like that. I don’t want the players to feel like that.

“I don’t think the board feels like that. Because we work very hard. I probably worked this season harder than ever.

“In my personal analysis, I don’t think that way. But if I was on your side, in your chair, I think it is [fair].

“We won a League Cup. We won the Community Shield.
“Until the injuries arrived, we fought for the Premier League top four. We had a fantastic record of 25 matches [unbeaten].

“We did things that nobody did in this club in the first season, like winning a trophy, like having the Manchester United record in the Premier League for unbeaten games, like reaching a European final. We had good things.

“But if I was on your side and you are always looking for this kind of capital-letters big headlines, I accept if you say that.”

The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, made this known at the opening ceremony of the hearing on Friday in Yola.

He said everything necessary needed to be done to contain the serious threat posed by HIV, AIDS and sickle cell anaemia to the society would be done by the legislature.

Mijinyawa reiterated the assembly’s commitment to making laws that have direct bearing on lives of the people and urged all stakeholders to contribute positively to the bill.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that parts of the proposed bill stipulated that any couple intending to marry would be subjected to a compulsory HIV and genotype test that should be conducted in public hospitals or registered diagnostic centres one week before the marriage.

The bill also required that the certificate of the two tests should be presented to any religious institution or the clergymen of church or mosque where the wedding would be contracted.

“Any person or persons who have complied with this law in fulfillment of the requirement of the previous marriage shall not on this basis evade undergoing the test when contracting any subsequent marriage,” the proposed law stated.

Part three of the bill also made case for non-discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell anaemia in the state.

“Individuals, communities, employers and employees have a mutual responsibility to prevent discrimination on basis of HIV (AIDS) or Sickle Cell Anaemia in the society.

“No cultural practice or tradition shall encourage documented practices that exposé people to risk of HIV infection,” the bill said.

It further provided for a penalty of N150,000 for individuals and N500,000 for organisations or imprisonment for a period not less than one year or both for any person or institution found guilty of non-compliance with the law.

With regard to organisations, the head or representatives of the board of the organisation would be held liable, the bill said. (NAN)

“After your lordship’s order on the 9th of May, 2017, the 4th and 5th respondents went before the FCT High Court on the 10th of May and obtained an order to detain him for 14 days in other to complete their purported investigation,” he said.

Delivering his ruling, Justice Mohammed Idris said he would act with “great caution” in the matter.
