TV/Movies / 7 Reasons Why Big Brother Naija May Be Postponed Till Next Year by Naija247blog: 6:09pm On Apr 11, 2020
It's sad to know that the Nigerian reality series, Big Brother Naija haven't made necessary steps towards the commencement of the TV show this year.

Because of the love that Nigerians and other Africans have for the show, a lot of questions have arisen concerning the next season.

Some are asking why it hasn't begun, unlike Seasons 1, 2, and 3, where it commenced before April. Others that don't care about why it has started are just curious to know when the next season will begin.

And more importantly, when will audition for the new season begin?

As much as I hate to admit it, the show might not hold this year. Having gone through a couple of research and observations, below are a few reasons why the show may be postponed:
1. Coronavirus pandemic & lockdown rule
Well, it's no surprise that the recent pandemic has caused a lot of decision-making around the world.
One of the major decisions taken was that all activities should cease, and there should be a general lockdown. Though it has shown to be more effective in some states than others, the rule is still generally obeyed around the nation.

Even without the rule, there is general fear for the virus as not everybody infected by it have been able to make it out alive. As the number of confirmed cases is constantly increasing, it gives an omen that things aren't going to get any better soon. Many contacts are still being trailed, and the death rate is also slowly increasing.

You shouldn't expect people to risk their lives to the dreaded disease just for your entertainment.
Come to think of it, most of the states which hosted the show's audition last year have gone on total lockdown. And as you know, there can't be a show without an audition.

Therefore, the fear of the viral disease & the total lockdown across Nigeria is certainly a stumbling block to the show, and this could lead to its postponement.

2. They have nothing to lose
As vague as it may sound, it still holds in this case. Big Brother Naija is a very big show, and no matter the time and date they decide to commence season 5, they'll never lose.

Think about it, according to Naijaloaded. they announced that in Season 4 a total number of 240 million votes were cast. This is singlehandedly more than any other Nigerian competition ever held in history. Due to the nature of the series, they already have your loyalty and you can't deny it.

If they announce that the next season would begin tomorrow, you'll quickly purchase a DSTV subscription now. If they also conclude that it will begin towards the end of the year, you'll just grumble a bit and still look forward to the show. Whether you like it or not, the show has stolen our hearts and we all love it. Therefore no matter when they decide to begin the show it's a 'win-win' situation for them.

In the monetary aspect, they aren't also losing anything. For now, there are only a few reasons why they might have loosed some cash (if they did.) One of them is the amount they may have used to rent audition centers. The other is the amount they may also have used to hire evaluators for the audition. These are the only ways they may have lost if things were set up too early. And mind you, they can still work things out with them to minimize losses.

From observations & clarifications made, if the show were to be on hold for 1 year, it won't have much negative effect as it would for other shows. There will still be enough viewers, and they could also recover any lost funds. So watch out!!! Anything can happen.

3. They haven't yet announced their audition date
As stated earlier, everyone knows the show first begins with an audition. They can't just pick people from the streets to be housemates for up to 90 days.

Since they haven't taken this vital step, there are still no chances that the show will begin.
Let me take you back to previous seasons and their audition dates. The audition date for the show in Season 1 wasn't clear, so we'll skip over to the next.
Season 2 (2017) - 26th & 27th Nov. 2016
Season 3 (2018) - 9th to 10th Dec. 2017
Season 4 (2019) - 1st & 2nd Feb. 2019
As you see above, the audition for Season 2 & 3 was held the year before the event was to hold. While in Season 4, as late it was, it was held on the 1st and 2nd date of February. This is the 11th day of April, and they still haven't announced any date for the audition.

These are all little indications that support the notion that the show will be postponed. Continue reading for more reasons.
4. They've remained silent across all their official social media pages
Social media has always remained one of the quickest methods of dispersing information. But it's sad to know that it's not everyone makes good use of it. You can guess where I'm already leading to by now.
Of course, Big Brother Naija is among the TV shows that don't make good use of their social media pages to pass out details.

In their unverified accounts, they've kept silent about details of the upcoming Season.
Their Facebook page is now completely dedicated to sharing posts from Africa Magic's page. Either it advertises an upcoming show, or they show steps to vote for someone in another competition. They've not mentioned anything about the reality series, and this has left a lot of fans worried.

Their Instagram page still advertises Mercy Eke as the winner of BBNaija Season 4. Nothing more.

While their Twitter page still performs the same function as their Facebook page. They just keep on retweeting tweets of Africa Magic.

Their social media pages and even their Africa Magic-embedded website have remained silent about the show since the 4th Season of the series ended. This isn't a good gesture, and it doesn't give us hope that the next season would premiere anytime soon.

5. Time is running out
As much as I hate to remind you, April Fool's day has passed, and there's still no sign of BBNaija Season 5 on DSTV's channel 198. The viral pandemic has sent everyone into isolation. And we've been like this for days, weeks, and up to a month now.

As the case keeps on increasing, no one knows when it's going to end. And time is running out!!!!
According to Wikipedia, the first season of the reality TV show started on March 5, 2006. The second season commenced on January 22, 2017. The third season began on January 28, 2018. And the fourth/latest season started on June 30, 2019.

Looking at all these dates, we can see that it was only season 4 that didn't start early, but they started the show about 5 months later after the audition. Can you see that time has gone far?
Accordingly, if the auditions were to be held today, it means that the show would begin in September. And we all know this can't happen.

Instead, the organizers may decide to hold auditions for Season 5 this year and start it in proper early next year.
Considering the amount of time that has gone by, the probability that the show would still start Season 5 this year is far less than the probability that it won't.

6. Postponement of major events
Ever since Coronavirus emanated from China, the world has been on their toes to combat, and eventually conquer it. The viral disease is said to spread from human to human by just skin contact. And another fact about it is that it can remain unnoticed by the carrier until after 14 days (at most) of having it. Since there isn't any symptom of the virus for a while, no one can know who has it for that period.
Therefore, all forms of social gathering have either been postponed or canceled.
For major events around the world to postpone their activities, why can't a TV show get postponed. According to Wikipedia, some major events around the world that have been postponed/canceled are:
1. 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo
2. Billboard Music Awards
3. World Robot Olympiad
4. Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival; and
5. National Sports Festival, Nigeria

Also, according to Africa Magic, the reality TV show, Ultimate Love had to come to an end one week before the due date. They had to do this due to the fear of the recent pandemic.

Big Brother Naija may have no choice and just have to follow suit. Some of these events are far more prestigious than the BBNaija, and if they could be on hold, BBNaija can also be on hold.

7. They've done it before, and they can do it again
How many of you know when Big Brother Naija began? Many may say 2017 probably because that was the first time the show began in the last century. But that's wrong because the show began in 2006, where it was first called Big Brother Nigeria. That year, housemates stayed in the house for 92 days, and Katung finally won the competition.

Still, making our usual observations, why did the show stop after 2006? Why did the show get canceled for 11 years? Did they go bankrupt? No one knows. There wasn't any press release statement to explain why the show had to be on hold for 11 years. And if they've done it before, they can do it again. At least everybody will understand why the show has to be postponed this time. So they won't owe anyone any explanation.

Conclusion
We all love the Nigerian TV show and expect to see it this year, but the odds aren't in our favor this time. We all should start accepting our fate that the show may be postponed this year, as all the observations above were extensively researched.
You might have had rumors that the audition date has been fixed. And you need to pay an amount to audition for the show if interested. But for now, all you've heard are not true, as nothing has been said by the organizers about the next season.

Sports / I'll Be Lighter, Faster And More Powerful - Andy Ruiz Sends Out Warning by Naija247blog: 6:22pm On Oct 14, 2019
Andy Ruiz, the current WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO heavyweight world champion, has mentioned in an interview to ESPN Deportes that he is training hard ahead of his rematch against Anthony Joshua - which is scheduled in Saudi Arabia on December 7th, 2019.

He said in the interview: "I have a lot of respect for Anthony, outside the ring he is a very good man. But inside (the ring) there are no friends, there is no respect or anything,".

Anthony Ruiz is expecting a much tougher the second time around, as Anthony Joshua vows to get revenge.

"It will not be an easy fight. I think it will be a hard fight, but nothing is easy in life, so we are training very hard. We will be prepared for whatever he bring," Anthony Ruiz said.

"I will arrive in better condition.... lighter, faster and more powerful. They will believe that in December they will win. People will always talk like this, but I have faith that we're going to win and shut up more mouths."

Ruiz also told the reporters the fact that he had received an invitation to compete in the next Olympic Gamest
to be held in Tokyo, 2020, and there may be a possibility of accepting the invitation.

"It's not for me, professional boxing is where I am. It's better for me to give the opportunity to other kids who have that dream of going to the Olympic Games," Ruiz said.

We recall earlier that Anthony Ruiz dropped Joshua four times before he stopped him in the seventh round at Madison Square Garden in New York City in their previous clash.

The 25-year-old Nigerian midfielder, Anderson Esiti hopes to win the Selcao team ahead of upcoming clash.

Politics / Buhari Laments On The State Of Oil Community Despite Shell’s 40-year Operation by Naija247blog: 2:04pm On Oct 11, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has in a statement reported by NAN says he felt touched and sad to know that OML-25 host communities are pleading to have primary schools in 2019 after up to 40 years of oil exploration.

Reports has it that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his displeasure during the official reopening of the OML-25 Flow Station in Belema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers on Thursday 11th September, 2019.

He assured the people through a representative, Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Ita Enang, of the host communities that the narrative would change.

“We have been to the host communities, and I want to assure you that we have seen your situation by ourselves."

“I felt touched when in the address by your leaders, they are asking for a school in 2019 after 40 years of producing oil for Nigeria."

“I am also saddened to hear that while producing 44,000 barrels of oil per day for the past 40 years through Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), that you’re now asking for a hospital."

“I want to assure you that we will not just provide schools, we will provide complete community life for all the host communities of OML-25,” he said.

According to President Buhari, the Federal Government will work with the state that is receiving the 13 per cent Derivation, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and find out what they have particularly done for the communities.

“We will work with the Presidential Amnesty Office and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs; we will redirect the budget so that the oil revenue will take care of the people."

“I felt a lot when I scooped the water that you drink about 30 minutes ago, and the oil from the water is still on my palms with which I fetched the water."

“On behalf of Nigeria, I apologise to you, this situation in this country under President Buhari and Ministers of Petroleum Resources and Niger Delta Affairs will definitely change for the better for all of us,” he added.

The president in a statement also commended Mr Tein Jack-Rich, President and Founder of Belemaoil Producing for showing deep interest to impact on the host communities.

“Every community should look for, and treasure their indigenes who care about their interests."

“I thank you for bringing peace to these communities in effecting the reopening of OML-25 and reconciling the government, NNPC, and SPDC with the host communities for the betterment of Nigeria.”

“We are here at the right time because the 2020 Budget was submitted to the National Assembly two days ago."

“We will take it to them to see what is provided for you, and redirect the budget to capture the interest of oil-producing communities like you that are facing the same challenge,” he said in conclusion.

Autos / FRSC Seizes 200 Unregistered Tricycles In Kano State by Naija247blog: 1:53pm On Oct 04, 2019
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the Kano State Command has said that it has seized about 200 unregistered tricycles in the state.
This was said in a press statement on Friday, 4th of October, 2019 by the Acting Sector Commander in Kano State, Mr Ahmed Tijjani-Mohammed.

Mr. Ahmed said that the FRSC of Kano State met with the State leaders of the various unions of tricycle and motorcycle operators to ensure they sensitized their respective members in the State.

He said: “It may be recalled that the exercise, which is currently ongoing nationwide, was slated for Aug. 1 and later shifted to Oct. 2.”

“This was to allow states’ internal revenue services to prepare adequately for the registration exercise, and for extensive sensitization campaigns to the target road users as well, among other reasons.”

“We made sure they understood that it was important for them to be registered and captured in the data of the National Vehicle Data Base,” he added.

Sports / Ex-Nigerian Coach Also Reacts To Decision Taken By Tammy Abraham And Tomori by Naija247blog: 12:49pm On Oct 04, 2019
Fatai Amao who is was formerly Super Eagles assistant coach, has urged Nigerians to forget about the Chelsea stars, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, after England handed them both international call-ups.

According to Fatai Amao, Nigeria should focus on the likes of upcoming stars like Victor Osimhen and Dennis Bonaventure instead of crying over Tammy Abraham and Tomori.

Noting that Gareth Southgate have added the duo to their squad list for upcoming clash for Euro 2020, if they accept the invitation and eventually feature in any of the matches, they will not be able to represent the Super Eagles again.

“I think we have turned a normal situation to an emergency. We are now putting the cart before the horse and that is why we are always looking for players born abroad with Nigerian root. We put ourselves into this situation because I believe we have qualities that are better than Abraham and Fikayo in the country,” He said.

He also added: “Seeing how Osimhen and Dennis are playing in the UEFA Champions League has shown that Nigeria is blessed with talents and they have not seen anything yet from Osimhen and Dennis.”

“So we should not lose sleep over the decision of Abraham and Fikayo to play for England. We all know those that made this kind of decision in the past and they were latter dump by England. So, Nigeria should forget about them and focus on the players we have. No need forcing anyone to play for Nigeria.”

Politics / Shehu Sani Speaks On What Nigeria Has Become In 59 Years by Naija247blog: 12:23pm On Oct 04, 2019
Senator Shehu Sani who was a former lawmaker, has given a brief review of the nation’s status in the last 59 years, saying the country has been divided along ethnic and religious lines. In an interview he made available to Dailypost in Abuja on Friday, 4th of October, 2019, he said:

“Nigeria’s 59 years record on attempt at poverty eradication and respect for human rights and the rule of law is appalling, woeful and tragic.”

“We have become a belligerent, combative and intolerant nation of religious extremists, sectional champions and tribal warriors and warlords.”

“Nigerian leaders have abandoned nationalism and behave like tribal conquerors imposing their will and wishes on the people in their occupied territory.”

“The white horses in our coat of arms has been dismounted and redeployed to pull the luxurious chariots of a selected power elite.”

“While we are building new bridges over River Niger to link the north and the south, the bridges in the souls and hearts of Nigerians that linked them up to each other has since broken into pieces.”

“Nigerian Political leaders purport nationalism when speaking in English but promote ethnic chauvinism when speaking in their native languages. That is corrosive to the spirit of nationalism.”

“Over the years, our nationalist and patriotic spirit has been dampened by the failure of successive Governments in the country and; the only moment Nigerians are patriotic about their country is that moment when the super eagles are on the winning path.”

“Nepotism erodes patriotism and nationalism.”

“Our dream of building a united and prosperous nation will remain a mirage as long as we continue to run and maintain a system that politically and economically disenfranchised and marginalized some sections of the country or people to the perpetual advantage of others.”

“We should reconfigure, reset and restructure Nigeria politically and economically in order to make it greater.”

“The dream of our founding fathers has been destroyed by our founding fathers.”
