Consider liquidated companies in America. Most American water ways are highly developed, so should have no much problem getting used ones. The waterways business in Nigeria is truly lucrative, but as with any Nigerian business you need to be on the ground for DAILY MONITORING, otherwise you may be kissing your money good bye. Better visit Nigeria to do your cost benefit analysis PHYSICALLY YOURSELF. It will be money worthwhile. |

Hi, when I did mine in 2008 I paid: 1. N10m mandatory application money to CBN (refundable on approval). This draft must be submitted with your application. 2. N10,000 Application/processing fee 3. After Interim Approval you have to incorporate your company with CAC with a share capital of N10m. Cost is approximately N400k (due to stamp duty) 4. You then joined the Association of Bureau De Change Operatiors of Nigeria (ABCON), By the time they add all their fees its approx N600k. Approval letter from the Association is mandatory before you can get your final approval. 5. Inspectors will come to inspect the building you proposed to do business in (cost nothing, just entertainment money). 6. Once approved you have to leave N500k mandatory deposit with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), you will get interest on this half yearly. On receipt of your final approval you are then ready to start bidding from CBN. Bidding means you wire Naira on Monday morning before noon and collect dollars ($50k) on Wednesdays. BEFORE YOU CAN DO THIS YOU WILL NEED TO REMIT $20,000 to CBN account in the USA. Dont ask me why USA. You can use part of the N10m refunded to you to do this. By and large book N3.5m for processing, I dont think you can do it cheaper. You have just missed the recent gate opened by the CBN to submit new applications, deadline was 31st March, 2010, but you can still try your luck. May be you should just buy one for sale. If you need help send email to cs@prominencebdc.com |
Quite a lot. Have you considered starting a Bureau De change. Well you can with as little as N50k, no office overhead, no stock. Just buy in the morning and sell in the afternoon. Visit www.prominencebdc.com and click on partners. I recently came across this. |

Plus you get to buy at close to official exchange rate. |
I cannot remeber the exact spelling, but its called Bacuten or Carnestein. Ask your local Nigerian chemist. It works over a period of say 4 months. Caveat emptor |
To assist in administrative work involved in launching and running business in Lagos. Must have HND/Bsc in business related fields (e.g. Marketing, Bus. Admin, Economics, Banking/Finance, etc) Must have Full Driving licence and knowledge of Lagos. Able to start immediately. Salary negotiable. Monday to Saturday. SOME DRIVING OF THE CEO IS INVOLVED. You must be computer-literate and also able to access the internet. Text your phone number and name to 0805 408 2233 |
ASHLAND, The answer to your initial question can only be determined by working backward (to get the number of years). The Return on Real Estate investment in Nigeria is between 3 and 5%. Anything beyond this rate MAY be misleading. If you divide 3 or 5% by 72 you will get the number of years required to recoupe your investment. If you invest say N10m in property in any part of Lagos (and you want to recoupe only by rental income) your rent will be 5% of N10m. Buying in Lagos Island (Lekki, Ajah, Sangotedo, etc), the cost of laying a raft foundation will tilt your cost higher. I dont recommend taking a Nigerian loan to buy property in Nigeria. Unless you plan to sell in two years or less. |

Incagold, please enlighten my people more. May be if they all vote together, this service providers will wake up. Paying almost £91 for a broadband is a joke. When I am in Nigeria I pay N12,000 to Direct on PC for services that comes on and off. In UK I pay £12 monthly to AOL broadband. In Ireland I pay Euro 25 (N4,625) to Vodafone for broadband. My UK and Ireland broadband is supremely superior to that of any Nigerian provider. I put the difference down to the COST OF DIESEL powering the generators, abi? Otherwise there is no justification for such cheating either by Visafone, Reltel, MultiLinks, Starcomms or whoever. |
To me the power outage at the MMA 1 airport was shocking in my 20 years of using the airport. I was inside the departure gate area waiting for my Turkish Airline boarding announcement when the first outage occurred at 20.04hrs and lasted till 20.14hrs. Again it was repeated at 20.25hrs and that lasted till about 20.50hrs on that faithful Monday 30th June, 2008. Believe you mean I almost concluded that a coup must have taking place for the simple fact that it should not even take 5minutes to start a "Tiger" generator talkless of a giant generator with key start. NIGERIA IS A BAD JOKE. I was involved in a discussion about African development with a staff at Sierra Leone Airport in December, 2007. The lady pointed out that our problem in Africa is not essentially that of bad leaders but that of AFRICAN MINDS. She said the leaders are also from the populace and that if "African Minds" can be changed/educated to do good, then BAD LEADERS will almost disappear. As far as Electricity problem in Nigeria is concerned we have two options, I think. One is to compel the Senate to pass a bill mandating each state governor to licence minimum of 5 IPPs (independent power plants) of which three must be quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The result is that any state that first achieved uninterrupted power supply will have industrialists flocking to set up business in such state, hence competition will ensue. The FG may then grant the so called billion dollars as loans to those IPPs. The second option is to launch ELECTRICITY PARTY OF NIGERIA. The party will NOT contest any local, or state seats but strictly that of the Presidency only. It will be difficult for other parties to bribe average Nigerian on this issue not to vote for the Electricity party of Nigeria. The mandate for the President is to FIX the electricity nothing more, nothing less. The next then may be Road Party of Nigeria and so on and so forth. We begin to appoint "President on issue matter" that is of most concern to Nigerians. Gradually we will get there. WILL IT WORK? |
Abuja1:You need to "dematerialise" your paper certificate so that it can be reflected on your CSCS. If you have a stock broker, they may assist you with this. Please note IT IS A THANKLESS job, so if your broker demand a fee for this it is not unreasonable. Often your broker will have to go to the registrar involved many times before it can be done. If however you have the time you can easily do it yourself. But let me point out, IT IS A PAINFUL JOB. On the second part of your question, I think you want online access to your CSCS. This you have to pay a fee to CSCS for a yearly access. It is a small fee under N5k |
I think we should have some criteria for rating these banks before we eventually conclude. For example as for the number of pretty girls, I will give it to Zenith instead of GTB. Have you visited Zenith customer services at Ajose Adeogun? May I suggest we rate them by including the following criteria (I think): No. of branches ATM down times (this one I conceded to GTB) Crowd at banking halls Attitude of security personnel Staff knowledge at staff level Transaction costs Electronic banking May be NO. OF PRETTY GIRLS PER BRANCH (I mean we need to satisfy some Nairalanders men here) etc etc Over to you panel of judges. As for me I bank with most of them (because I have been angered by each of the major banks at one point in time) except for Union Bank which I intend to bank with when I come back to this world again. |
Its a good idea, but the timing is dangerous. This is another "Awolowo", for proposing a good idea at the wrong time. Does anybody know how the redenomination can improve our electricity and water supply that 95% of people living in Nigeria badly need? Can we trust all the other governmental bodies to effectively implement this change? I am just wondering how the local artisan will react or the bus conductor accepting N1 from you instead of the old N100. Chaos awaits at the local food market come 1st August 2008. Can we tell CBN to shift the date to 1st August, 2009 thus allowing everybody (including companies) time for implementation. One year is damn too short, this is Nigeria. |
Hi Chivaley, Thanks for your post. I have sent you an email. I am willing to assist. |
