Do you know how to play the Nigerian "Ayo" Game. I mean the one made of wood common in the Western part of Nigeria (Yorubas). If you can teach this game, I like to hear from you urgently. Email me at Naija4ward@yahoo.com or text to 0805 408 2233. Handsome reward awaits you. |
Tywoh:Cashcraft use to be my favourite, until one of their staff started playing with my client account. As for stock investing advice, you will get useless information. They are execution only broker, i.e. you and you alone must decide what you want to invest in. Even at execution stage you need to be physical because your instruction will not be followed on time (if at all it is followed) when you instruct via their website. If your portfolio is over N100k, I suggest you move it. You can also visit www.stockmarketnigeria.com to chat about stocks. |
thanks for the info |
As to the first question you can get daily update in excel format if you send subscription email to Research@ibtc.com To use the NSE you physically need to send somebody to the exchange to make payment for you so you can get access. For the CSCS the procedure is first you register on line at www.cscsnigerialtd.com. Secondly you then download the registration form which is taken to stock broker to verify your signature. This form is then taken to GTB or any other designated bank to make payment for your internet subscription. As if that is not sufficent, the signed (broker and bank stamped form) is then taken to the CSCS for approval. An email given you login access is sent to you within couple of days by CSCS. Crazy I had to physically come to Nigeria before this could be done. ![]() |
Iam in your shoes too. I bought 10,000 units. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. The problem is down to profit takers and those who are selling for cashflow reasons to join the banking band wagon. Everybody is still cooking with salt, so the fundamentals are still intact. You will need to consign this to long-term. It will begin to bounce back a bit when the third quarter result (period ending 30/9/07) comes out. Expect full recovery in late March 2008 when the full year unaudited is released. Please note this is a long term stock, it is not something you can speculate with. If you cannot stand the heat, sell now and put your money is some of these ("voodoo", according to my neighbour) banks' shares to recoupe your loses. Especially those banks whose year end is just about approaching (Oceanic, UBA, Skye), these three are all September 07 year ends. |

It is difficult to judge the success of Macdonald in Nigeria. There are too many obstacles course to surmount especially on the ingredients needed to make the food taste like the real thing, e.g. the frozen chicken, the fish finger, the lettuce. To be precise you will need to rejig OBJ farms for this purpose, as some of these things are banned. The cost of freezing some of the imports will drive you crazy. |
Can you set up and run a publication(newspaper style)? Do you have the relevant qualifications? Can you organise the page planning, advertising, and distribution of such paper starting from Lagos State and expanding nationwide? Can you mobilise the supporting staff that will help you achieve this objective? Do you live in Lagos/or able to relocate to Lagos? Are you willing to start work immediately or in less than 30 days? We are about launching a new publication in Lagos hence we need a Publications Manager. PLEASE IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION, DONT APPLY. Just send not more than 20 lines email to me at Naijaforward@yahoo.com. DONT SEND CV, that will be demanded later. |
If you want a stock broker where you can see your portfolio online, go to www.cashcraft.com. I have been using them for my UK clients for 2 years. |
In addition to Doncaster's contribution, you are ready when the following additional conditions are manifested: IF You HAVE PAID JOB 1. When you think you can do the business better than your employer 2. When you can practice your passion and GET PAID for doing it 3. When you have any form of small capital you don't want to consume it 4 When ideas are striking you at the rate of 10 ideas per minute and you are afraid somebody might do it 5. When you can no longer tolerate receiving instructions from your boss 6 When there is TOO MUCH MONTH at the end of your pay (i.e. when the time between your monthly pay seems longer than 31 days) AND ABOVE ALL 7 When you have just been FIRED by your employer IF You ARE UNEMPLOYED 1. When you look for job for 3 years and canNOT find any 2 When you are ready to S.U.M.O. (Shut Up and Move On) 3 If living or dying broke looks scary Just a short list |
London Cool, My only contribution is "put up the right building, in the right place". Seriously look at the composition of properties in the area you are building. If you put a duplex in an area where a bungalow would do, it will be sad. Renting or selling it after completion may not give you efficient returns. For example I desired to put a duplex on a piece of land in Ajah, but was advised by three different builders that a block of 4 flats will be better for renting purpose. There is not sufficient/strong "demarcation" at the front between the two duplex. The plan is okay if you are locating that structure in an estate/gated community, otherwise think of increasing the demarcation wall. From my personal experience building properties (of any shape or form) in Nigeria without visiting is not recommended. If you are going to sell after completion, its okay. But if you are going to be renting or living in such buildings, headaches awaits you after completion. The sad reality is that the artisans are often not properly supervised. The more you go home to supervise the major element, the less headache for the future. |

Seun, you are partly right from a layman's point of view. But the Accvountants of this world have devised ways and means to mitigate the tax implications. If the holding company owns the majority of the shares in the subsidiaries, there is what is called "consolidated accounts" by which exemptions and what not applies. The total tax payable to the government will still end up to be the same (if you have a good accountant). As far as government and taxation is concerned it is important to remember Larry Ellison's quote "A corporation's primary goal is to make money. Government's role is to take a big chunk of that money and give it to others". Cheers |
Alternatively you can start as a group, as then creat each division when funds permit. |
Hi Canachy. From my personal experience, YOU DO NOT need to incorporate separately. No law says that. However consider the following and then make up your mind: ONE INCORPORATION - GROUP 1. Branding is easier, 2. Save fortune on stationeries 3. Unified marketing effort 4. Savings on financial resources (incorporation costs, accountants fees, software, etc) 5 Ease of staff recruitment and other admin costs SEPARATE INCORPORATION 1. Ability to monitor each division's performance 2. Enhanced competitive spirit within the group 3. IF THE GOING GETS TOUGH FOR ONE DIVISION, YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF "AMPUTATING" (CLOSING DOWN THAT DIVISION) AND STILL STAY ALIVE. 4. God forbid, if anybody (employee, customers, government, etc) SUE you in a court of law you will be able to stand with other legs while the "sued division" cash flow is exhausted in legal fees. 5 Having a separate finance pot i.e. bank account for each division means the sick one (negative cashflow) will not be living on the "cash cow". The decision at the end of the day is yours. The average cost of N60,000 (for N1million) incorporation may well be worth it from my own experience. For example to protect your "ass", you could have the group coy OWNS all the trading assets and have each subsidiaries borrow/lease those assets at a cost. In this life as a company owner or entrepreneur, you will be SUED at one time or the other, so also business prosper or business fail. Feel free to email me at Naijaforward@yahoo.com if you need some more critical insights into group companies management. |

Sir, what is the name of this estate? Did you say near Mayfair Gardens? Mayfair Gardens is in Awoyaya, so if this site is near Mayfair then IT IS NOT LEKKI. Will realtors stop confusing innocent members of the public. The nearest place even to Awoyaya is Sangotedo. This is how I got sold a land in Awoyaya described to me in London as Lekki. |
Cheexy has given you the Financial Success definition of the meaning of "Assets" and "Liabilities". This definition will make you financially successful. The other definition given here is that of an Accountant, and that will not lead you anywhere. For example the house you have on mortgage is not an asset, it is a Liability because it takes money out of your pocket every month. Follow Cheexy's definition, you are bound to stay the course of financial freedom. |
Very interesting. He is located right on the road. You can reach him on 08033447879 or 014020959. This guy sold me a 150amp inverter battery for N30k that turned out to be second hand (unable to hold charge). The small inverter he sold me worked for only one week. I warned readers to be careful in buying inverter batteries from this guy. Try Tufosen on the mainland, they are more professional |

SUPRY, Well done for this project. You can achieve substantial progress on Nigeria if you can try and visit for ONE WEEK. You will see first hand and be able to make critical appraisal. I believe the more you visit the better and quicker. I am currently thinking along "affordable" windpower, DC/AC inverter for individual homes. Please keep up the good work. |
Hi Awolumate, (O mowun ara e ni). I can assist having been in the UK property market (buy, sell, mortgage) in the last 10 years. Non-EU passport means you will have to come up with close to 25% deposit. You MUST have a UK current account. The amount of deposit you have will determine in what part of UK you can buy. If you set up a UK limited company, you may circumvent some of the deposit requirement. If you plan to buy, refurbish and remortgage you must have ready cash of £20k upward. There are ways and means round some of the obstacles. Visit www.rightmove.co.uk, www.findaproperty.com for some price ideas for South of England. If you email me at Naijaforward@yahoo.com, I will give you my UK phone number to answer more of your questions. Cheers |
It is mind boggling. My attitude has always been to compare the ratio of these "bad events" to the population ratio. If you do, Nigeria's ratio is low. Just two doors away from my home in Essex (UK), a man was taking to an industrial site to be gunned down. It is the MAGNIFICATION of Nigeria's crime scene to those abroad that is causing fear of coming back talk less of foreign white visitors. Nonetheless I continue to increase the frequecy of my visits to Nigeria. One major reason not yet included in the above list: SOME NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA CANNOT COME HOME BECAUSE MATES THEY LEFT BEHIND IN NIGERIA HAVE DONE TOO WELL IN LIFE. For example coming home to buy land of N18m cash in Lekki (without mortgage) can be pretty scary. By the same token my research in 2005 showed 1 million UK residents escape from UK every year to go and live a better life! That's to tell you people are scared of leaving in the UK as well. Cheers |
