ishmael that's a good question. I believe most people have biz ideas and stuff but the problem almost always remains generating the INITIAL CAPITAL!
AGREED with Seun. I specialise in entrepreneurship and business venturing and marvelled when people waste.
Please note a person start as UNEMPLOYED, before becoming EMPLOYED and now EMPLOYER.

If you have a project needing capital, please post it in Nairaland. Anything under N1m I can help. If you need more than that and your project is genuine, I can organise funds both locally and abroad. So there you all go. Forgive my writing as I have not worked for anybody in the last 15 years.

Good luck in 2007.

for someone who bought(N30000) share in access bank in sept at 2.80 and now is 7.00 what is my share worth
i can my brooker and he send i should divide the persent share price and multiply it by what i pay for, that is my share worth.
is that true i want to know
Teslim was right, you have posted in the wrong column. But just to help. Access simply halved your units. So N30k would have bought you 10714 units (before charges). Divide that into two, you get 5,357 shares at N7 per share. You are really back at N37500. It was a clever financial thing, they almost fooled me with my 90,000 shares thinking I had a windfall.
BusinessRe: #1.5m To Invest by Naija4ward(m): 7:47pm On Jan 05, 2007
MT:
@ Naija4ward

Could u please educate me a bit about the 5% commission u were explaining about stock. I have bought a lot of stock in all these recents IPO by different companies. I have invested close 2 millions. I will like to know if this 5% still applies to people that buy during the IPO. Please let me know as I'm considering buying 30,000 units of dangote
The close to 5% charge is made up of the following:

Buying %age
Commission 2.75
SEC Fees 1.00
CSCS 0.10
VAT 0.05 of comm 0.14
Stamp Duty 0.075
4.0625
One or two component has gone up in percentage.

IPO is not subject to most of the charges above because it has a different reporting method when returns are made. You will get a summary once the allocation is done in respect of your holdings.

Please remember that when you invest in IPO, you must exercise a lot of patience. It often takes undue amount of time before you get your stock certificate. Some people unable to part with their money (with little trace) for 2 years have given IPOs names (Its Probably Overpriced, Imaginary Profits Only, Insiders' Private Opportunity) to mention just few.

Nonetheless never miss a good opportunity when you see one.

Cheers
BusinessRe: How To Sell A Business Idea To A Company by Naija4ward(m): 7:20pm On Jan 05, 2007
To a limited extent you can patent an idea.

If you have a sure-fire formula you may use combination:

USA
Hire a sharp attorney on a no win-no fee basis. The attorney register your invention before approaching the telecom coys.

UK
Dont stand a chance because of your skin. So you must first patent this idea before hiring a solicitor. When you are done, prepare 2 sets of docs, ignoring the technical details in the first docs. The second set can now contain your technical know to be released on payment.

NIGERIA
Use whatever means to locate a director of the company. Persuade him to come in on this. Be prepared to make him/her a partner in this deal. Approach your spiritual leader for guidance, hire a body guard and leave the rest to God.

JUST YOU MAY KNOW
I read that when Coca cola had problem of trying to increase their sales, a consultant offer to help. Mentioned his figures and insist on signed contract before disclosure. At the board meeting, having had his contract signed told the board of Coca Cola, if you want to increase your sales just "bottle it".

OF COURSE
If your idea will cost less than N5million to implement, then let us know in this forum. Count on some of us for funding to start the business yourself.

Please include Naija men in your next trip, o. We need quality shirts and tie for our men too. Handsome Nigerian men should not be ignored afterall they most invariably pay for those wears the ladies buys 75% of the time.

kingzy:
I have 1.5M Naira to invest presently but need both the capital and interest before end of next yr (boyfriend oct.). Please where do u advise that I put the money for maximum yield.
It seems you cannot spare a dime for risk purpose, since you want it back plus interest. I suggest you invest N1m in a highly liquid bank (First Bank, Union, Zenith GT Bank etc). Use N300k on Federal Govt Treasury Bond, and Put only N200k in stocks (again make sure its stock you can sell when the time come). If you put too much in stock remember you will be down almost 5% (commission charges for investement) before you start, hence the stock will have to appreciate more than 10% because you will also have to pay similar charges when you sell in October next year.

Remember our slogan in UK, "past returns is no measure of future returns".

Have a nice day.

What about this RHD vehicle thing ?
Ok, have sent you my email. RHD means Right Hand Drive. The steering wheel on vehicles are on the right in United Kingdom, so we drive the vehicle on the left hand side of the road. For this reason, few countries want our vehicles though we have virtually all the major makes: BMw, Merc, Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc. If you have the time you can import these vehicles and convert them in Lagos easily. Cars are ridiculously cheap in UK starting from N30,000.

I need used catering/restaurant equipment. please let me know how you can assist
For that, you have come to the right country. We are full of restaurants here today GONE tomorrow. This is one equipment we have in surplus. I see them advertised a lot, but have never been in restaurant business. Specifiy which equipment you need. Possibly your cheapest form of transportation will be a used van (costing about N50k) which you can use in carting them to Lagos. Then sell the bus on the cheap. If you let me have your email I can help.

Have a good holiday.

hey naija4ward, I been thinking bout the snail business and the UK, how do I get rid of them in their bulk? Have a feeling african restaurants 'll be interested, any other markets? or other suggestions?
Whaooo. Export snail to UK. There are more than 30 Nigerian restaurants and African foodstores in London alone and many I know would love this idea. You will need to see the Commercial Attachee at the British Embassy in Lagos on procedure for transporting live animals to UK, and may also need to contact airlines like Virgin Nigeria and British Airways since they fly directly. You will need to minimise the transportation time.

I can help you find buyers here in UK once you finish your preliminary work. There is definitely a market. Another option to consider is to consider sending them "partly processed". Sorry I dont know much about snail.

Have a nice day
BusinessRe: Need To Know About Inverters by Naija4ward(m): 6:56pm On Dec 22, 2006
Hi, you may contact a company called TUFOSEVEN in Lagos 017251832, 08023120702, email tufoseven247@yahoo.com. I saw their advert in Castle (property magazine) during my last trip to Lagos.

The basic things you need to know about using inverter include:
a) What level of power does your machine require to start
b) Subsequently at what constant power would it need to operate.

Strange enough we all know Nigerian power output at 240volts, but inverter is usally quoted in another measures (I think watts), so be careful before you part with money.

Hi, Naijacutee is right.  Reverend proposal is fantastic. Lets get the two of them to serve on the Board of Association of Ebay Users.  I can contribute some insights.

If not, and you want to trade internatiionally not just on ebay alone, you must consider becoming a "TRANSNATIONAL".  First set up a UK company right from Lagos there (www.setup.co.uk, www.dialmailbox.co.uk). Then a UK bank account. Finally set up a US company (Delaware is easier) with a bank account.  Presto you are ready to trade with the world.  If anybody put an obstacle on your, then let me know.

As Naijacutee said, follow that proposal or simply appoint an agent in UK and US to start with.  Use profit from that set up to go Transnational.

Dont forget Nigeria is a market of 120 million people at least. It is not a market to be ignored.

What happen to www.GBOZA.com?

UK is full of new and second hand clothing.  Best profit will be on second hand as most new poor and middle class clothing are imported to UK hence pricing may not be fantastic.  The female clothing market in UK is full of varieties and its even better than USA in terms of designs.

I will send you my private email and phone numbers, perhaps you can benefit from my 2 decades of leaving in UK.

Cheers

For the laptop, not a problem. Its a pity I had a Sony languishing in my wardrobe for over a year before giving it to a staff in Lagos. Please state your minimum spec. IT IS NOT FREE. Payment will be by installment. Expect delivery round about 14 Jan 07 unless I see somebody coming to Lagos before then. If your ecommerce business look good, I may "chip" in.
