Nollywood actor and film producer, Kunle Afolayan, on Tuesday, screened his long-anticipated movie, ‘Mokalik’ in front of a select audience in Lagos.

The screening, which held at the Filmhouse theatre, Twin Waters in Victoria Island, had in attendance veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani; Jahman Anikulapo; Afro-Pop singer Simi and some other notable personalities in the movie production industry.

The movie, written by Tunde Babalola and directed by Kunle Afolayan, explains the career of an 11-year-old boy of a middle-class suburb who spends the day as a lowly apprentice at a mechanic workshop in order to understand life from the other side of the tracks.

“MOKALIK is an ambitious film project that tells a story which is unique and relevant to our society. It beautifully highlights diversity while distinctively addressing the issues around choice,” the award-winning movie told guests who attended the screening.


“This was why I chose to situate life’s happenstances in a typical Nigerian mechanic workshop,” the filmmaker said

“Mokalik” features singer Simi, and BBN ex-housemate, Tobi Bakre.

It also features other prominent actors like Femi Adebayo, Charles Okocha, Faithia Williams, Lateef Oladimeji.

Comic actors like Wale Akorede (Okunu), Ayo Ogunshina (Papa Lolo) and Dayo Akinpelu (Alabi Yellow) also star in the movie.

Oyo State Government on Saturday morning disclosed that there was no casualty in the building collapse incident which occurred on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said the building, located in Sogoye, along Bode, #Molete area of Ibadan, Oyo State, had collapsed suddenly while still under construction, with several people injured and others trapped underneath.

In a statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun, the government stated that the multi-agency rescue operation team set up by the Governor was able to achieve the evacuation of all victims from the collapsed building which was under construction as at the time of the incident.

He noted that the injured, who are in stable condition, have been taken to the hospital while no death was recorded.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC ) Yekini Nabena has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has a lot of questions to answer on the conduct of the governorship election in Bauchi state and it’s decision to jettison the rerun it earlier ordered for Tafawa Balewa local government area.

Nabena asked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to forget the dream of taking over the governorship seat in Bauchi state, saying no magic can give the PDP Bauchi state having lost all other elections in the state.

He faulted the INEC’s declaration of People Redemption Party (PRP) House of Representatives candidate in Bauchi’s Katagum Federal Constituency as winner of the election, saying such “should have been declared inconclusive became the number of cancelled votes, 5, 211 is more than the margin of lead which is 4, 704.”

Nabena who is also the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party said if not that there was a grand plot to rig out governor Mohammed Abubakar, how come APC won 21 State House of Assembly seats compared to PDP’s 5 seats in the state in the election conducted on the same day?

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja Nabena said the reported nonusage of Card Readers in Bauch Local Government Area “is a major issue that should not be disregarded by the electoral empire. The opposition PDP knew that if rerun election is held it will lose the election to APC.

“Maybe the opposition felt that if that position had not be taken by INEC, they would have won. But that is not the issue. The issue of election is not about winning or losing. It is about having a free and fair election. So it is the free and fair conduct of the election that matters to all of us and to the whole world. I say so because if the election is not free and fair there will be no issue of inconclusive; it must be concluded. So we are challenging the INEC not to give PDP undue advantage in Bauchi governorship election.”

He insisted that there is need for rerun in election at the Tafawa/Balewa LGA, Nabena said the Returning Officer for the area, Mrs Dominion Anosike, told the world how she was intimidated and harassed while collating the results.

“She was even threatened. They threatened to rape her. She was a woman and she said it herself. The answer is there. There was tension everywhere in the place and she was forced to sign the document under that atmosphere.

“I believe APC will win because APC has won 80 percent of the other elections except this election and this one has been declared inconclusive. Mark you, the results of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area has not been announced. But I tell you, you will be surprised if the result had been announced. We certainly would have won, that is why they are trying to deny us of the victory. If the hoodlums had not disrupted the process at the centre we would have won Tafawa Balewa. So I believe we will win Tafawa Balewa again”.

On the already declared Katagum Federal House of Reps result in favour of PRP, Nabena described it as an error on the part of the INEC.

“It is a clear case of inconclusive election because the margin between the PRP candidate and the APC candidate is less than the cancelled votes. So, we are demanding justice if INEC is not deliberately against the APC. “

The Senate will today open debate on the general principles of Budget 2019, Senate President Bukola Saraki assured yesterday.

Saraki scheduled the date of the debate of the fiscal document shortly before the upper chamber adjourned plenary session in honour of a member of the House of Representatives, Temitope Olaoye “Sugar”, who was killed in Ibadan last Saturday by unknown persons.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on December 19, last year, presented a Budget of N8.6 trillion to the joint session of the National Assembly for consideration and passage as this year’s Appropriation Bill.

Christened “Budget of Continuity”, the 2019 fiscal document is planned to continue the country’s drive for inclusive economic growth, diversification and sustainable development.

Saraki urged his colleagues, who have contributions to make on the budget to list their names for proper coordination of the debate.

He said that the debate will take two days, today and March 19 to enable many senators to contribute.

The conclusion of the debate of the general principles of the 2019 Appropriation Bill will pave the way for its reference to the Appropriation Committee for further legislative action.

Saraki also mandated the Ad-hoc Committee on the New Minimum Wage Bill to expedite action on its assignment.

He directed Senator Francis Alimikhena to take over the chairmanship of the committee in the absence of its substantive chairman, Senator Olusola Adeyeye.

The House of Representatives, which had earlier debated and approved N30, 000 as the new national minimum wage as proposed by the Federal Government, also adjourned sitting for its slain member.

The Green Chamber adjourned plenary in less than 20 minutes after resumption from the general election break.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara regretted that Nigeria was yet to move away from politically-motivated killings.

The late Olatoye represented Lagelu/Akiyele Fededal Constituency. He chaired the Committee on Urban Development & Regional Planning before his death.

Dogara also announced the death of a former member, Bethel Amadi, who also died during the break.

Amadi was former President of the Pan African Parliament between 2012 and 2015.

The Speaker, who sauntered into the chamber at about 11.35am exchanged greetings and banters with his colleagues by the aisle before assuming his seat.

After the opening prayers, he announced his approval of the last votes and proceedings after which he broke the news of the death of the two lawmakers.

He called for prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed which was said by the Chief Whip, Hassan Doguwa and Tobi Okechukwu.

Speaking with reporters after the plenary, Dogara condemned killings across the country, adding that that Nigeria should not be experiencing killings during elections.

He said: “It is unfortunate that we lost our colleague and many other Nigerian during the elections due electoral violence. This is so unfortunate for us as a nation and even for our democracy.

“We need to move away from this kind of experience to a better place as a nation, it is not helping our democracy.”

There is tension as suspected political thugs invaded the polling unit at Ile Tuntun along Eleta academy in Ibadan, scaring away voters who have come to exercise their civic right at the on going Governorship and House of Assembly election in the state.

Our correspondent reports that the thugs prevented the voters and the party agents from carrying on their duty.

This led to chaos which forced the voters to escape as they were chased away.

However, the Commissioner of Police, CP shina Oluku has ordered officers to restore peace.
