uzzyfire: dude u don't know how annoying and degrading it is that u guys are trying to compare Kenya with Nigeria .
u won't unstnd degrading it is until a country like Malawi or Burundi starts trying to drag shoulders with Kenya It is degrading too for Nigeria to compare itself with Kenya.,.........and there are many areas that Burundi and Malawi outperform Kenya so yeah, they can compare themselves with Kenya. You need to stop this mentality of assuming other countries are nothing and smell the reality. |

sirjerry: The person responsible for creating this thread need to have his mental faculty checked out.
Why, would someone in a good state of mind be comparing Nigeria to kenya, what is this a joke, kenya i mean seriously kenya to Nigeria?
Most of the argument going on here are even stupid, seriously people can be this ignorant in this age and time, imagine someone saying kenya has a satelitte launch capability, the FFFUK.
Why would an educated and resonable fellow be camparing Nairobi with Lagos, the money, economic activities(formal/informal, legal/illegal) that flows in lagos a day is bigger than that of the entire nation of kenya.
Tell me why would america be comparing itself to brunei. Why will america compare itself to switzerland.
Why will china compare itself to singapore ,macau.
Why would britain be comparing itself to norway.
Why would south africa comparing itself to mauritainia, namibia.
Why would Nigeria be comparing itself to kenya, ghana, benin, ivory coast.
Why, because we are not in your league. Cool down bro. Substance is all we need. |

Muafrika2: You may be right to an extent. I would imagine its something akin to what's been happening to Mugabe after he chased the whites. Its a way of Western control of African governments and protection of their economic interests. May be he did just a part of it
He was a Luo, right? What about the stories of cannibalism? Last time I checked Luos did not have that kind of reputation. Idi Amin was not Luo. Milton Obote was. Idi Amin was of a Sudanic ethnicity that's closely related to Luos though. His cannibalism was not an ethnic culture but more of an individual thing and has also never been verified. Just hearsay and speculation. |

forgiveness: DEFINITION
The term "skyscraper" was first applied to buildings of steel framed construction of at least 10 stories in the late 19th century, a result of public amazement at the tall buildings being built in major cities like Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Detroit, and St. Louis.[3] The first steel-frame skyscraper was the Home Insurance Building (originally 10 stories with a height of 42 m or 138 ft) in Chicago, Illinois in 1885. Some point to Philadelphia's 10-story Jayne Building (1849–50) as a proto-skyscraper, or to New York's seven-floor Equitable Life Building (New York City), built in 1870, for its innovative use of a kind of skeletal frame, but such designation depends largely on what factors are chosen. Even the scholars making the argument find it to be purely academic......
The Emporis Standards Committee defines a high-rise building as "a multi-story structure between 35–100 meters tall, or a building of unknown height from 12–39 floors" and a skyscraper as "a multi-story building whose architectural height is at least 100 m or 330 ft. Some structural engineers define a highrise as any vertical construction for which wind is a more significant load factor than earthquake or weight. Note that this criterion fits not only high-rises but some other tall structures, such as towers.
The word skyscraper often carries a connotation of pride and achievement. The skyscraper, in name and social function, is a modern expression of the age-old symbol of the world center or axis mundi: a pillar that connects earth to heaven and the four compass directions to one another.[8]
A loose convention of some in the United States and Europe draws the lower limit of a skyscraper at 150 m or 490 ft. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyscraper
Bhuuuhahaha! Based on the first @bolded
Lagos has 8 skyscrapers completed than the whole of Kenya. Sorry
With about 10 skyscrapers with the minimum height of 100m under construction.
DEFINITION OF HIGHRISE
Various bodies have defined "high-rise":
Emporis Standards defines a high-rise as "A multi-story structure between 35–100 meters tall, or a building of unknown height from 12–39 floors."
According to the building code of Hyderabad, India, a high-rise building is one with four floors or more, or 15 to 18 meters or more in height... The International Conference on Fire Safety in High-Rise Buildings defined a high-rise as "any structure where the height can have a serious impact... In the U.S., the National Fire Protection Association defines a high-rise as being higher than 75 feet (23 meters), or about 7 stories.[5] Most building engineers, inspectors, architects and similar professionals define a high-rise as a building that is at least 75 feet (23 m) tall.[citation needed]
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_block
Based on the definition @bolded, Lagos has more highrise than the whole of Kenya. While Abuja and Port Harcourt has more than Mombasa. sorry
123 Highrises (completed and underconstruction)
Please, note that I didn't add 8 completed skyscrapers and the 10 underconstruction. They are all above 20 floors and 100m.

Lagos dey wound Kenya since nineteen cridi. Lol, so I posted buildings with over 20 floors and you're posting me buildings with over 12 floors and claiming you have more? Dude, I can't even list all buildings over 12 floors in Nairobi. There are some neighborhoods where all residential buildings are over 12 floors with no names. The fact that you can even list ALL buildings in Lagos with over 12 floors is testament how you have so few of them. Anyway I couldn't help but notice from your list you have only 10 complete buildings over 20 COMPLETE floors in comparison to Nairobi's 22 lol. Buildings over 20 floors. Nairobi - 22 Lagos - 10 |

forgiveness: Remove I&M bank (99m), Prism Tower (still under construction) and LéMac Tower is not up to 100 meters.
KCB is likely 99 m.
If we remove all those, it will remain 6.
Whereas, Lagos has 8 completed skyscrapers. I didn't add the two in Abuja and one in Ibadan.
Then, how can you say Kenya has more skyscrapers than Nigeria? So where are the 8 Lagos skyscrapers? lol. You can't say Lagos had 8 complete skyscrapers when you haven't listed even 1. Lagos has 6, Ibadan 1 and that's it. No other in Nigeria. KCB is 100m, Le'Mac is 126m (I wonder where you are getting the less than 100m figure lol) Prism is topped out so it's already a structure with a 133m height. Anyway I could still remove Prism and I&M but Nairobi will still have 8 (with numerous under construction including Africa's tallest tower) against 6 from Lagos. |

forgiveness: What makes a city Washington DC of Africa?
Of course, Ibadan has a skyscraper way before Kenya and South Africa dreamt of having one. Ibadan also had a skyscraper before Dubai had one but that's a single building that stands out as a sore thumb in the middle of badly planned ugly midgets. Sorry sir, that's not enough to call Ibadan a city of skyscrapers. I don't know why you're so inclined on this Ibadan having the first skyscraper. A skyscraper is a skyscraper irrespective of the time it was built. Nairobi got KICC 4 years after ugly Cocoa House was built and KICC is now a small tower in the mid of numerous other skyscrapers. Furthermore KICC is still an architectural masterpiece. |

freshest4live: No but from the little history l know, Benin and lfe(ibadan)were great empires, while the igbos were usually organized communities consisting of elders. The Hausa/Fulani kingdom was a great one too but perhaps the radical islamization there made them just too radical. Old Benin kingdom has another interesting history, they were quite organized and advanced with great works of art, (many from the south south have Benin as origin)but perhaps the colonial rulers hated their progress. Swahili Coast was also a big empire. Man drop it.....it's absurd to claim ancient buildings in Nigeria are traditional while ancient buildings in Kenya are not. These are houses that the natives of that area used to build. Just accept you guys are poor at maintaining your buildings. Maybe you can be like your friend oxwhatever and start googling photos of temporary shelters used by nomadic communities in the Arid Kenyan regions and convincing yourself that's how Kenyan villages look like to make yourself feel good about yourself. |
