Goel: I used the word usually for a very good reason. Those countries are facing depressions. Moreover, with an exception of South Africa, all of them are living in more advanced stages of society. You guys could face famine if same thing happened to you.
They are "exceptional" countries. Or other case could be that most of low income people live in Asia and Oceania and they are growing.
My judgement over recession and revival was about oil prices and Nigeria's consumer class.
If you can give a figure of economic diversity, I'll appreciate. Otherwise, I'll quote a source for it.
Well, if things were that straight forward, there wouldn't have been argument between Africans for having most beautiful places.
Well, if you're asserting so, I'll step back a bit. I know about Asian economies primarily and get an overview of other economies. For Nigeria, I had opinion for oil & young population coz Nigeria's economy is dominated by oil.
Population growth rate of India: 1.09% GDP growth rate of India: 7.4% So, GDP per capita growth rate: ~6.8%
Population growth rate of world: 1.09% GDP growth rate of world: 2% So, GDP per capita growth rate: ~1.8-1.9%
Population growth rate of Nigeria: 2.58% GDP growth rate of Nigeria: 2% So, GDP per capita growth rate: ~ -1.3%
Look you are running high here because I called 6% growth rate impressive. It sucks when your population growth rate is greater than 1.75%. So, is Pakistan and so is Nigeria in this aspect.
Moreover, maintaining the growth for just 5-7 years isn't enough either. Economic booms which are known to transform countries are known to run for decades, not short lived blooms. And governments design their policies and economies for it, struggle for it.
Well, I've found individual project basis flaunting from Twitter. They might be fanboys if not politicians. In East, it goes statistically, in West, it goes subjectively.
A figure of local infrastructure firms would reflect better. So, how do Nigerian road authorities work? Do they assign tender.
You could use the figures like Nigeria's infrastructure budget or length of paved roads and highways completed every year.
Well congrats for what you've done. I'm just asking for minimizing the effect enough to attract more investments. Minimal terrorism ensures safety to assets. So, more investments will be there.
Those are supplementary things which can't rapidly add up things as easy you think. Moreover, Nigeria has to lift lot people outta poverty. Profit margin is minimal in agriculture. Technological advancements for military & space programs or expertise of other sort of research won't be there.
Clothes, steel & concrete etc. industries produce commodities consumed nearly by everyone with little fluctuation in demand and give relatively better profit margin, it will be ideal being deported from developed and upper middle income countries now.. Lightweight industries will bloom themselves with demand.
If you want to do anything, no country has achieved economic boom without focusing on heavy industry i.e., boilers, reactors & machinery. Agricultural stuff can be imparted. When India and SE Asia underwent green revolution, worlds had scarcity of food which doesn't exist today. Countries who make finished products have better growth, trade balance and life than ones producing raw material.
Let's a bit honest to both. Kenya and Ghana have been far more successful in socio economics. Nigeria's per capita income is close only because of oil. Without it, its no different than Congo or Niger.
On other hand, its only substantial country in Africa and destined to lead Africa one day even if caught up with world average. It's population with a reasonable income will allow it to emerge as a significant power on world map. Let's ignore everything else for a moment and let the bolded part sink.............. Thank you. |

gallivant: Tanzanian businessmen is an oxymoron. The only prominent Tanzanian here is your opposition leader Tundu Lusi, nursing his 10 bullet wounds courtesy of the Magufuli. Stop lying to Nigerians to feel better about yourself. 7 You forgot to say he had to be treated in Kenya since Magufuli would have had him poisoned in hospital had he been treated in Tanzania - that's if he could find a good enough hospital there. |

rvp20183: In other countries - they would call the military - Kenya combined police force respond to terror attack at Riverside, Nairobi. These consist of regular police, the two paramilitary wing (AP & GSU - with elite squads) and the CID (plain clothes)
In kenya rarely are military ever used in anything...and majority use to retire without ever firing their guns in battle. Apart from somali war..they are mostly kept in barracks or outside the country in peacekeeping missions. That is how Kenya has avoided military misbehaving or overthrowing civilian rule. Keep the at barracks because they are trained to simply Kill.

darfay: I don't own it I know... But why can't Kenya do anything. Tz has jamii forum the biggest in East Africa and where unproductive Kenyans cause havoc and you are here on Nairaland as well constituting a nuisance
You are always insulting Nigeria and Nigerians using a Nigerian platform can't you see how weak you are
Kenya is behind in technology, you even jamii forums to discuss about Kenya
Zero creativity
Zero ingenuity
You can't build shillingland or Kenyan version of jamii forums but your pride is something. You end of constituting a nuisance to Nigerians and Tanzanians.. Maybe you are waiting for Indians to build it for you. Goel can get to work while he is here Lazy Kenyans Do you know Kenya had the oldest forum in Africa? Do you know when Mashada Forum was closed it was bigger than both Nairaland and Jamii Forums combined? |

Here's ur link, list the countries that came 2nd,3rd..... till 15th. If u cant list them, just shut d fvck off. https://www.globalhungerindex.org/results/ Stop giving me the link that I gave you and no. there is no 2n or 3rd country on the list. Number 1-15 is shared and the next country is number 16. SA is number 60, Ghana is 62, Kenya is 77, Tanzania is 95 and Nigeria is 103. Stop being stupid. See for yourself.

Are you telling me you did the rankings yourself Yeah, he got it from me. It existed but just like hunger and poverty, Nigerians make the assumption that Nigeria is doing better than the rest of Africa hence are normally shocked when the truth is presented to them. Nigerians here were shocked when I told them that Nigeria has the second lowest life expectancy in Africa. |

Daejoyoung: English is not our mother tongue in Africa and there's nothing to be proud of in being good at English, yet Kenyans and Ghanians here criticize Nigerian English, especially the Ghanians who have been fooled to believe they know and use the language better. My Point is Nigerians generally may not care about speaking English like native speakers, but in literature we have been global( much more than your Kenya and Ghana), even in things like scrabble which is specifically focussed on the knowledge of the language, we find ourselves competing with pure native speakers. Stop contradicting yourself. One time you're boasting of being better in English for playing scrabble, the next time you're boasting about not caring about English. Stupid zoogerian. |

Daejoyoung: Lol and yet Ghanians and Kenyans say they know English better than Nigerians, they can't prove it , neither in literature or even dictionary games like scramble. Apparently, Nigerians know English more than the British because they beat them at scrabble - based on your logic. Why are you Nigerians so stupid? |

theenchanter: nigeria and Kenya are on d same page according to ur source. Nigeria is worse than Kenya. Unless you know not what the GHI index means. Kenya is at number 77 and Nigeria is at 103. Tanzania is at 95, Ghana at 62 and South Africa at 60. This means of countries on this thread, Nigeria is the hungriest followed by Tanzania. South Africa is the least hungriest followed by Ghana. Kenya is in the middle.
