Ibinabo Fiberesima seemed to always come second or third in beauty pageants. She later acted in advertisements and music videos. She quickly jumped on the movie train when Nollywood appeared and she became a Nollywood star. Here she is dancing in Blackky's music video. naptu2: |
The Silverbird Group hosted the Miss Intercontinental Pageant in Lagos from 1987 till 1991 and beauty queens came from all over the world to compete at the event. There are some people that could have been on this list, but they are not beauty queens. Everybody knows Ibinabo Fiberesima. However, although she did take part in Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and Miss Nigeria pageants, she always came second or third, so she was a contestant, not a queen. This is another person that could have been on the list. Yemi Fawaz us acclaimed as the first Nigerian supermodel. She had a Lebanese father and Nigerian mother. Her children have also become famous (Mimosa Fawaz is a famous sports presenter on the BBC). However, I don't think that she ever took part in any beauty pageant. This is the late Yemi Fawaz in a 1980s Maltonic advert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4u19u4UEgk?si=um2dvNn5jvYf28bT |

Hemanwel:I'll advise you to ignore that guy. You didn't mention Igbo and you didn't show hatred for anyone. There are people that are trying to derail the thread and turn it into an ethnic battleground. I am just waiting for them to start, I know what to do. The best thing and my advise to you is to ignore them. |
joseph1832:No, her father's name was Justice Chuba Ikpeazu. He was a judge and a member of the Nigerian Football Association. |
Hemanwel:Actually Binta Sukai was Miss Nigeria 1990 (the first northerner to win it). He father was Fulani and her mother was Scottish and she represented Nigeria in a few pageants. |
OlujobaSamuel:Oluchi focused primarily on modelling and she's probably Nigeria's most famous model. Julie Coker and Rosemary Anieze-Adams are legends of television. Regina Askia was also initially focusing on modelling and she did a lot of adverts for Visine, Chicken George, etc, but she later focused on acting and became a legend of Nollywood. |
Ikemba007:There were many people that were popular as beauty queens, but these were the most popular. |

The Miss South Africa pageant authorities backed Chidimma, but the criticisms grew after a video surfaced of Chidimma and her father with her father's friends in Igbo cultural attire. An investigation was initiated and the South African Home Affairs Department claimed that preliminary investigation showed that Chidimma's mother stole the identity of another person. Chidimma was forced to withdraw from the pageant due to the controversy. The issue became a major discussion topic around the world. She spoke about how she felt when she won the award in 2015, she spoke about moving to Barcelona (the BBC journalist says that she helped to create the best team in the world).
