Still on the subject of lip syncing in videos, here is another group that had a similar issue.

naptu2:
I am sure that I have posted this before, but I can't find it. I was writing about another similar controversy when I posted this song, but I can't remember what the other controversy was.

You see, Martha Wash sang the chorus of this song, but Zelma Davis is lip syncing the chorus in the video. Many people felt that Martha Wash was not featured in the video because she is . . .big.

You might remember Martha Wash from It's Raining Men, which was a hit in the 1980s. She had also sang on a number of songs for other groups in the early 1990s, but she was not featured on any of those videos. Instead models lip synced her parts in the videos. This upset her and she sued C&C Music Factory. The law was eventually changed (mainly because of her) to make it mandatory for vocalists to be credited on albums.

Zelma Davis (you might remember her from Things That Make You Go Hmmm) is the person in the video.

This song was a huge hit in the early 1990s. In fact, I think it was their biggest hit.

I am sure that this was everybody's favourite song at some point.

Freeze! I'm Ma Baker. Put your hands in the air and give me all your money
This song was actually inspired by a true story, but her name was Ma Barker, not Ma Baker.

She had 4 sons and they were some of the most dangerous criminals in America in the early 1900s. Her husband left the family because he did not like the criminal activities of his sons.

Some say that Ma Barker was the leader of the gang, while others say that she only loved her sons, but she did not take part in their criminal activities. She was eventually killed by the FBI

naptu2:
Wow!

Ma ma ma ma
Ma Baker, she taught her four sons,
Ma ma ma ma
Ma Baker, to handle their guns,
Ma ma ma ma
Ma Baker, she never could cry
Ma ma ma ma
Ma Baker, but she knew how to die!

Fantastic song.

Politics › Governor Chukwuma Soludo Meets With Traditional Rulers by naptu2(op): 4:21am On Jan 24, 2024
Anambra State New Media @AnambraNewMedia

PRESS STATEMENT

MEETING OF GOVERNOR CHARLES CHUKWUMA SOLUDO CFR WITH TRADITIONAL RULERS OF ANAMBRA STATE. HELD ON THE 23RD OF JANUARY, 2024.

The meeting of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers was convened by @CCSoludo to meet with the Traditional Rulers as part of a consultative meeting with stakeholders to review progress.

This is part of the line up of events in the new year which began with a retreat of members of the State Executive Council, engagements with Ndi Anambra in Lagos and the US Consul-General.

About 94 Traditional Rulers were in attendance despite the short notice.

At the meeting, Igwe Achebe reaffirmed the unalloyed support of the Traditional Rulers for @CCSoludo, assuring the government that the Traditional Rulers stand ready to partner with the government in all its efforts to transform Anambra into a liveable and prosperous homeland.

He also expressed the wish that some of the issues pertaining to the suspension of some Traditional Rulers and the controversies of the last few days arising therefrom be put to a rest.

He requested that there were other issues that the Traditional Rulers wish to bring to the government, and further expressed a desire to have another forum after the meeting to discuss these issues, including the welfare of the Traditional Rulers.

He further requested for a meeting with government officials to discuss other issues of mutual interest.

In his address, the Commissioner for LG, Collins, assured Ndi Igwe that government holds them in high esteem, and look forward to continuing working with them closely.

He tried to clarify some of the issues leading up to the suspension of a Traditional Ruler and query of two others, assuring them that this was all in the spirit of ensuring law and order in the State.

He also highlighted the concerns of some Traditional Rulers over the composition of member of the traditional Rulers Council. He stated that such concerns and similar issues are being looked into by government.

On his part, @CCSoludo reiterated the purpose of the meeting which was to focus on the partnership of all stakeholders towards the execution of the Solution agenda for 2024.

He elaborately briefed Ndi Igwe of the major milestone of his administration in the past 22 months; and solicited their cooperation as stakeholders under the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP), a strategy of his administration's rapid development of Anambra State.

In the course of the discussion that followed, it was observed that the body operating as the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council as constituted was unknown to the law, the body was improperly constituted in violation of the provision of section 2(F) of the Anambra State TraditionalRulers (Amendment) Law 2020. In specific terms, that section provides that the Council shall be composed of the following persons to be appointed by the Governor.

a) a Chairman;

(b) two Deputy Chairmen; and

(c) one member from each Local Government Area provided that members appointed from a senatorial zone shall not exceed eleven.

There are three senatorial zones and twenty one local governments in Anambra State.

The above provision of the law therefore mandates that the Council shall be constituted with not more than 36 members.

The state record shows that the body currently acting as the Traditional Rulers Council is composed of 52 persons in utter violation of the law, the implication of which is that the body is not the Traditional Rulers Council known to law. To that extent, that body as presently constituted cannot make any valid decisions or function legally and could not have done so in the light of the provisions of the law.

Furthermore, section 30 of the Traditional Rulers Law 2007 and 2020 as amended provides that each member shall be appointed to the council for a term of four (4)years only and shall be eligible for appointment for another term of four years and for no further term.

However, the State Government has observed that most members of the said body as presently constituted have held their positions beyond the eight year limit in violation of the law.

The cumulative effect of the above is that the present body cannot legally function as the Traditional Rulers Council as it is made up of persons who are legally disabled from being members of the Council.

Unfortunately, this body has been functioning as the Traditional Rulers Council of Anambra State for several years.

In order to purge the state of this illegality, the governor made the following suggestions which were accepted by the traditional rulers:

a) That all the Igwe in the State shall become members of the Council other than a select few, and therefore remove the term limit.

b) But that for this to function there will be a need for amendment of the relevant sections of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law.

c) Consequently, it was agreed that a committee made up of 5 Traditional Rulers, plus officers of government to urgently meet to consider the amendment of the relevant sections and any other section of the Traditional Rulers law deemed pertinent for a review.

As quickly as the law is amended there shall be a meeting of Traditional Rulers for the Governor to formally inaugurate the council so that it can function in strict compliance with the Law.

The Governor also magnanimously addressed some of their welfare issues, announcing that with the apologies of the affected Traditional Rulers, the State government accepts their apologies, and subsequently reinstates Igwe Neni and forgive the Igwe of Ojoto and Aguluezechukwu

Mr Governor further clarified the legal status of the Igwe Nawfia as adviced by his legal team.

Vote of thanks were given by the Obi of Onitsha and Igwe Ojoto, they requested for regular meetings with Mr Governor which HE graciously accepted to hold at least twice a year.

1) fake song is better than fake people

2) I hate fake stuff but I love fake Milli Vanilli

3) Even a fake song is way better than the crap they play today

4) It’s not fake music, it’s a collaborative effort.

5) I don't even care who was really singing this.... still fabulous.

6) The men in this video are so handsome

8 ) 1989: playback, NO, take back Grammy's
2020: Auto-tune, ok, give the Grammy's.

9) I love this song. I wish a movie was made about them. Y’all gotta remember. These men were young and poor. Everything sounds like a good idea in that scenario

10) I love this song. I'm good friends with Fab Morvan. He's a good man and he's a very good singer. Check out his work. RIP Rob.

Aha! Here it is!

I had decided that I would never post this track, but I'll post it today.

There were disputes between Bobby Farrel and Frank Farian. Frank gradually allowed Bobby to sing in some concerts, but Bobby also wanted to sing on the albums, so Frank sacked Bobby.

I remember how shocked I was when I saw this. Boney M released this song sometime in the mid-1980s and there was a different male singer. His name is Reggie Tsiboe. He is British-Ghanaian.

However, Bobby and Frank later patched things up and Bobby returned to the group in 1986.

You can see that there is a different person in the video but the voice is the same.

Arguments. Their producer, Frank Farian, sang most of the male parts on the albums. I listened to a BBC programme in which Marcia Barrett said that Bobby Farrel (the male member of the group) wanted more singing time. This led to an argument and Frank Farian fired Bobby Farrel (remember that another guy sang the male parts on their "Jambo" track).

They later patched things up, but they had lost their audience by then.

This is the moment that it happened.

Milli Vanilli were a pop group that had massive hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s. However, they had a little secret. The two guys that were in all the videos and who performed on stage were not really the people that sang the songs.

You see, Rob and Fab, who were the face of Milli Vanilli, approached German producer Frank Farian and told him that they could sing. He recorded their album, but part way through the recording sessions, he decided that they didn't have the quality that he needed, so he hired other people to sing the songs. Yet, Rob and Fab were the public face of Milli Vanilli.

It wasn't the first time that Frank Farian was doing this. He had created a super disco group called Boney M and they had massive hits in the 1970s. Frank Farian was the male voice of Boney M, but he didn't think that he looked good enough to appear on stage and in the videos, so he hired a Jamaican dancer to lip sync the songs on stage and in the videos. The female voices were sung by just one of the female members of the group, while the other female members lip synced on the videos.

However, problems arose for the first time during an MTV concert in 1989. The record skipped as Rob and Fab were performing on stage and it kept repeating, "Girl you know it, girl you know it, girl you know it". Rob ran off stage. However, MTV convinced Rob to return and the audience did not seem to notice the problem.

In fact, Milli Vanilli won a Grammy Award for best new act in 1990.

However, Rob and Fab actually wanted to sing on the records, but Frank Farian wouldn't let them. Eventually they made too much trouble for him and he sacked them in November 1990. He subsequently publicly announced that Rob and Fab were not the real singers and that they only lip synced. Milli Vanilli were made to return the Grammy Award. It was a huge scandal.

Frank Farian tried to recover from the incident by promoting the original singers as a new group called, "The Real Milli Vanilli", but people were not impressed.

Rob and Fab tried to make a comeback c1997, but Rob had been depressed because of all that had happened. He turned to drugs and he eventually committed suicide before their comeback album could be released.

This is the moment when the record skipped at the MTV concert in 1989.

There was a massive debate in my house in the late 1970s and early 1980s. My dad and I preferred Boney M, my other siblings preferred The Jacksons and my mum was neutral because she loved both groups equally.

naptu2:
This is the other record that was different. Vinyl records are usually black, but Barry White's record was white. This one was even more different. Not only was it yellow, but it was also translucent. You could see through parts of it. It was my favourite record (because of both the songs and the material).

DSVA Lagos @Lagosdsva

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED ⚖️

Lagos High Court Sentences Samuel Ademola Oladimeji to 3 Concurrent Life Imprisonment Sentences for the Offense of Sexual Assault by Penetration of his 3 Children.

His name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State.

The Judge, Hon. Justice Sholadoye of the Special Offences Court stated that the prosecution had 5 witnesses in person of the 3 girls who had been sexually abused, their mother and the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) from Ilupeju Police Station, Family Support Unit.

The matter was reported to Lagos DSVA after the mother noted that the children complained about pain in their private parts. They were then referred to Mirabel Centre for medical evaluation; the medical report confirmed that all girls had been sexually assaulted.

The judge stated that the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses were unshaken but stated that the defendant’s testimony did not add up because he was simply trying to distance himself from the allegations.

The court held that the children were indeed sexually assaulted by penetration and the prosecution had successfully discharged the onus of proving beyond reasonable doubt the commission of the offence.

He was then sentenced to 3 Concurrent Life Imprisonment Sentences. Justice Sholadoye also ordered that the name of the convict be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

We use this medium to commend the family of the survivors for staying the cause even as we reiterate State's Zero Tolerance Stance and insists that there is help for survivors.

Indeed, the wheel of justice is turning and perpetrators of these heinous crimes would be held accountable for their actions.

Let's continuously break the culture of silence !
