mayor2013:Truth is most of the dirt came from the a/c pipes when i flushed them. the previous owner had changed the abs about 3 to 4 months ago. which really gives me doubts about getting into the same quicksand. i considered changing to the older servo system because i rarely speed very much so im not bothered about slamming on the brakes at 180km/h. asides the abs issue i have absolutely no issues with the truck. the engine purrs smoothly and surprisingly fuel economy is comparable to that of a v6. |

mayor2013:older models use servo and the weight difference is not much. i really want a permanent solution to this headache. actually the difference is that the abs uses a pump to distribute the brake oil and this pump works once u step on the brakes until there is full pressure while the servo uses pressure applied on the pedals with a booster (servo) to distribute the oil. the abs system of my model is complicated that mere corrosion of the abs terminals can cause complications which might make one change the whole abs. also i strongly suspect that the master cylinder of my abs has a faulty seal (considering what i read on forms like ih8mud.com and also the hissing sound when i step on the brake pedal). hence i will love to have a brake expert examine my master cylinder very well and see if there is a bad seal which can be replaced instead of changing the whole unit. a member of ih8mud .com changed his whole abs unit before he discovered that his terminals were corroded and when he cleaned them the unit worked fine. anothe user also wrote that stiff and unresponsive brake pedal is a result of a faulty master cylinder while a collapsed brake pedal is due to a failed brake pump. |

dear friends, i recently purchased a 2000 landcruiser from a friend and soon after i noticed that when im in traffic for about 10 minutes the abs and vsc and traction control lights come on with an alarm. this lasts for about 20 seconds and stop when the traffic moves. if the traffic is really bad then the alarm and light become permanent and the brake pedal becomes stiff and the brakes dont respond again. until i get a mechanic to bleed the brakes or disconnect and reconnect the abs from the battery. i also noticed that when driving normaly there is a hiss like air escaping when i step on the brakes. i have done some research on the net and i discovered that it is a common problem with the 00-04 landcruiser, 03/04 4runner limited, tundra,sequoia and some lexus lx470 and gx470 as they share the same brake system. i have consulted some good mechanics who have concluded that the abs is bad and some advised me to change it to the older and simpler landcruiser brake system which uses a salvo instead of the abs brake pump. changing the abs is very expensive (abt 350k) and will not guarantee a permanent solution. please has anyone experienced this and if so how did you sort it out. i want to change the brake system only as a last resort. 1 Like |

kingreign:i've had the prado and 4runner. now i drive the landcruiser. prado is awesome off road. pajero is good off road but has a not very durable engine. |

samally:i love both vehicles you mentioned but a friend who has an ml320 discouraged me from buying one. defenders are bloody expensive and only a rare few tokunbo ones come with auto trans and air conditioning |

im nor arguing about off road prowess. i am just asking why 4x4 suvs are prone to steering and front suspension issues. talking about off road...i go off road ocassionally for fun. if there are also other off roaders on this forum i'd like to meet and maybe do some dune bashing sometime. 2 Likes |

hello friends, i have been wondering why 4x4 suvs keep having steering problems. i have had a prado that i changed steering rack and power steering pump twice. i changed steering rack and pump of my 4runner once and ball joints and tie rods.about 3 times. now i have a landcruiser and i have to replace both front shafts . the pump has also started squealing. other 4x4 suv users i know also have similar issues. what could be the cause? |

kazeems don come again. If you check your ride well. Only the Abs system was built in there. A servo alone would not work perfectly well with that ride considering the body weight of the car. Any one who advises you to convert to servo is an enemy. Run a scan first and post fault errors here. If you are in lagos and you need help. Call 08156087872 or 08165520837.
