Quite Insightful Textbook texts, but just for textbook. Advertising is an ATL marketing communication tool, as there are other branches and tools of marketing. According to wiki: Advertising is an audio or visual form of marketing communication that employs an openly sponsored, nonpersonal message to promote or sell a product, service or idea. Sponsors of advertising are often businesses who wish to promote their products or services. A Business could do all that was mentioned in the last 4 paragraphs and the product or service won't still lift off the shelves, Marketing goes wayyy beyond all you just mentioned, we are talking branding, Marketing funnels, MOTs, perception management, consumer brand experience, conversion-loyalty-advocacy, Loyalty reward schemes n so on 1 Like |

Music/Radio / Why Wizkid’s New Album Is A Victory For All Nigerian Artistes by natznext(m): 9:38am On Jul 18, 2017 |
This project is a victory not just for Wizkid or Nigerian music but one particularly for the music fans, the ones who helped the artiste grow. The much anticipated International mixtape from the star boy Wizkid, Sounds From The Other Side was finally released in the early hours of Friday, 14th July 2017. The 12 track project which parades bangers like Daddy Yo, Come Closer, Picture Perfect, All for Love and One for Me boasts of collaborations with some of the biggest international names like the 6god Drake, Ty Dolla Sign (who featured on two tracks), Trey Songz, Chris Brown, DJ Mustard and Major Lazer with additional vocals from some of Africa’s finest voices Efya and Bucie. Wizzy was also smart enough not to totally displace the sound team that earned him recognition in the first place- hence he retained the services of Nigerian beat-makers like Sarz, Legendary Beatz, Spellz and Del B in carving that distinct African sound. Let’s be clear, this was a gamble and Wizkid was not about to embark on this journey unprepared. Prior to the album release, Wizkid began to do media tours on major international platforms where he said so many right things and a few wrong ones. It had been a while since the Starboy featured on any radio/TV station back home so his interviews were as welcome as that of our presidential chat. He also released as much as five singles testing the market and preparing the audience for the direction he was headed with his new sound. It was going to be unapologetically dancehall with a lot of reggaeton and Caribbean feel; and even though he had rode on the wave of being compared with Afrobeat Icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti, his music was not designed to follow that path. He also got engaged in a social media war with fellow artiste Davido, which got the fans engrossed and talking. Whether you agree with how he went about it or not, he was winning. And then the shows in various cities began to roll in: he performed at the popular UK music festival Wireless before a crowd in the hundreds of thousand. He held a ‘free’ show at The Curtain Arena in the UK which served as the album listening party where he brought acts like Skepta and Burna Boy on stage. In addition, he had a concert in Brussels and has lined up several more including performing at four stadiums in Nigeria before the end of the year as he continues to spread his sound across the world. The process was well planned and the activities synched accordingly. He got the right buzz and the world was took notice. A new international name had been born, fully crossing the borders with his music and this time he had done it almost all by himself, a path many had in the past attempted but failed. After signing his international deal with SONY Music Entertainment/ RCA Records in 2016, many were sceptical as to what this meant for his career. We had been here before with Nigerian artistes sealing International deals and ended up with nothing to show for it. Big names like 2face, P-Square, Darey in their prime made so stillborn attempts whilst of recent, the likes of Seyi Shay, Burna Boy, Patoranking, Davido and Dbanj all toed this path but none of these deals have really set the landscape ablaze. Davido had also secured a similar deal with Sony Music as Wizkid. although the terms were slightly different. His EP however, Son of Mercy which was in 2016 failed to meet expectations. Sounds From The Other Side is undoubtedly the biggest offering from the Nigerian pop scene. The project which opens up with Sweet Love, is packed with fun, groovy and club anthems from Picture Perfect to African Bad Gyal with Gbese, Nobody and Sexy already emerging as early fan favourites. Whilst many have opinions about the mix-tape lacking in certain aspects- for example: a record detailing tales of his journey or one with a message to inspire his young African listeners; I daresay that at this point, his success story alone is enough to encourage and motivate anyone who has a dream and aims for bigger things. From being told by a certain ‘Solo’ that he was never going to blow to becoming unarguably Nigeria’s biggest pop export, from recording in OJB’s small studio in Surulere to performing on the greatest platforms worldwide; Wizkid owned his narrative. His place as a legend in the music industry might remain arguable to some but very few will doubt that his feats will be imprinted into the sands of time of Nigerian music. This project is a victory not just for Wizkid or Nigerian music but one particularly for the music fans, the ones who helped the artiste grow, the thousands who ‘holla-ed at him when he drove by’ and the many more who have always supported the music. It is also a victory for every Nigerian artiste who have helped build the structure upon which Wizkid has emerged and a story of hope for the upcoming ones that persistence does pay- if only you are willing to put in work. The Nigerian pop scene is having its moment of fame and this one is bound to last beyond just 15 minutes. You all can thank Wizkid for that. http://www.thenet.ng/2017/07/sftos-why-wizkids-new-album-is-a-victory-for-all-nigerian-artistes/

Politics / Who Won The Fight Between Fashola And The National Assembly? by natznext(m): 3:11pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
We always knew that minister for power, works and housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, is capable of swinging ‘em punches. But boy, who knew that the former Governor of Lagos can take on a national assembly packed full with 469 fire-belching Nigerians? It all began after the executive retrieved the 2017 budget from the legislature. To Fashola’s dismay, the budget for his ministry had been slashed by lawmakers. So, we grabbed us a bag full of popcorns like you did and took a seat ringside; as Fashola and the national assembly took turns to throw and duck punches. We love us a good ol' duel on rainy days--mud and all. Power, works and housing minister, Fashola (Punch) We’ll let you be the umpire and decide who threw a better punch after each round. You are at perfect liberty to score either fighter on a scale of 1-10 in each round. ROUND 1 Fashola: “Everybody is complaining about power supply but they (national assembly) also cut the budget for Mambila power project and the Bodo Bridge that connects the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Station. “If after we have defended the budget and we have gone and the legislature unilaterally changed the budget, what is the purpose of deliberation?’ “What I have in my budget now is primary health care centres, boreholes. “We were asked to complete those abandoned projects; the budget of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was reduced by the National Assembly from N31bn to N10bn. “We owe the contractors about N15bn and they have written to us that they are going to shut down. Abdulrazak Namdas (TheCable) “Also, the budget of the 2nd Niger bridge was reduced from N15bn to N10bn and about N3bn or so was removed from the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road budget. “I am not saying that the legislature cannot contribute to the budget, but I hold the view that it cannot increase the budget because they do not collect the revenue with which to run or implement the budget.” ************ National Assembly through House of Reps spokesperson, Abdulrazak Namdas: “We could not watch the country’s patrimony being unfairly skewed to one region or a few regions to the detriment of other States and geo-political zones. "We need to remind Mr. Fashola that the national assembly is a national institution made up of members from all geo-political zones, they represent all tendencies, interests and ethnic nationalities. “It has a responsibility also to ensure balance in the distribution of road projects and other developmental facilities. “The proposal from Mr. President on the 2017 budget of the ministry of works, power and housing did not pass this test! This partly informed the intervention of National Assembly so that every region can be carried along in project allocation". House of Reps (venturesafrica) Who won this round? *********** ROUND 2 National Assembly through senator Danjuma Goje: “Fashola should know that he is dealing with the national assembly of Nigeria and not Lagos State House of Assembly. “This assembly is composed of very patriotic and experienced Nigerians. Many have done this job before him. Many were Governors before him. The ministry is too big; the ministry comprises works, housing and power. Danjuma Goje (Punch) “If the job is too much for him, if he cannot adjust, then he should do the honourable and needful thing. No amount of blackmail or propaganda by him will stop this national assembly from doing its duties in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria”. ******* Fashola: "I think, first, that Goje’s language is unparliamentary and therefore not deserving of a reply. "I need a better budget as a tool to do my work and that is why l am speaking out. "In this context, it is left for Nigerians to then decide whether budgeting for constituency roads is more patriotic than budgeting to complete the Kano-Maiduguri Road that connects five states, the Lagos-Ibadan Road that connects three states and helps to move food, imported goods and fuel across the country; or the second Niger Bridge that connects the South-East and the South-West geopolitical zones of at least 11 states together. Fashola interacts with stakeholders (Min of PWH) "I will also leave Nigerians to judge whether it is more patriotic to budget for the Mambilla Power Project that will contribute to more power supply across Nigeria or reduce the budget to build street lights in legislative constituencies. “It seems that it is Goje who needs a behavioural prescription about legislative function. “Let me reiterate that I see parliament as a house where very vigorous debates about development should take place and it is important for Goje to acquire the temperament of debate and disagreement". ******** In your estimation, who won round two? Ok, let's cut to the chase: who won both rounds overall? http://www.pulse.ng/local/who-won-the-fight-between-fashola-and-national-assembly-id6960862.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily-2017-07-08&utm_term=newsletter%20daily |

5000 isn't small I hope this was planned at all, like if there's plan for Central sewage disposal systems, Central clean water, Covered Drainage channel, I think 5000 homes is enough to try to generate power for, because these things always seem abnormal to us so every house has to be a republic of its own, producing/providing it's power, water, road and security Or am I just not educated enough to understand the way Nigeria works? |
