A Reward for Success: Olowu of Kuta Honours Tukur Buratai with Thanksgiving

That his legacy is speaking loud soon after leaving the saddle as Nigerian army Chief of Staff and his achievements so much barely six years in office that it would be a tough task for successors to surpass them, is a testimony that Retired General Yusuf Tukur Buratai is indeed a go-getter of high standard.

Quite unusual in an age of euro-worship, Buratai is better known for the results of his career accomplishments. As head of the army of a nation known as Giant of Africa, Buratai worked to assemble a leadership team, hence the remarkable result and commendations from different spheres of society where his achievements have cut across.

For accomplishing such incredible goals as COAS, a foremost traditional ruler in the Southwest, the Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, few days ago, decided that Buratai was worth a special recognition. He organized an inter-denominational thanksgiving in the former army chief’s honour.

A confessed friend of the military, Oba Makama eulogized Buratai for his foresight and patriotism, which changed the mode of soldiering, especially in West Africa’s Nigeria. Oba Makama noted that, as the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai’s meritorious service to the nation, especially in the wake of insurgency and banditry, is among other factors that continues to keep Nigeria as one.

“My town, Kuta’s neighbouring communities will continue to honour Buratai for his contributions to the development in our area,” Olowu declared, noting particularly the construction of Panel bridge constructed on the prompting of the former COAS, which connects many communities in the Aiyedaade local government area.

“Kuta and Buratai family, we have struck a cord that cannot be broken. We are still thinking of what we can do in this community to immortalize him apart from naming the bailey bridge built in Kuta kingdom. We are not a friend of COAS office alone, we are friends for life,” the Olowu said.

The monarch noted that Buratai is a highly detribalized Nigerian while he praised President Muhammadu Buhari for finding him worthy of another national assignment as a non-career Ambassador.

“Being the longest serving Nigerian Chief of army staff, anywhere Buratai is posted to as an ambassador, he’s going to be a tremendous advantage for the country and we are going to see a great improvement in the diplomatic relations of the country,” Oba Makama posited, promising to also extend the same support and hands of friendship to Buratai’s successor.

The august event was graced by top dignitaries which include the Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Rasak Adeosun; traditional rulers from various Osun communities; course mate of Buratai, Commander Maman Yusuf; Kuta traditional chiefs; members of a political group known as ‘Oye for Osun’ led by Alhaja Folake Olaniyan and the Coordinator, Prince Kayode Babaranti, among other important dignitaries, Honorable Yunusa Akintola Amobi member federal House of representative who is also from kuta, commended the fmr Coas as a detribalise and officer who truly stands loyaly to mr president agenda, Buratai was represented by two members of his course mate led by major Banjo Daniel rtd, whilst league of Islamic scholars and CAN leadership offers prayers for Buratai and the his families.

Non-career ambassadorial nomination: SFD writes Senate, calls for Buratai’s confirmation

A group, Society For Development (SFD), has charged the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, to confirm the names of the ex-service chiefs as non-career ambassadors following their nomination by President Buhari.

The SFD gave the charge in via letter to the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The letter was titled, “PETITION AGAINST THE NON CAREER AMBASSADORIAL NOMINATION OF LT. GENERAL TUKUR BURATAI RTD, AND OTHER IMMEDIATE PAST SERVICE CHIEFS”.

In the letter signed by Mr Akintunde Bello Sheriff, Coordinator, Society For Development (SFD), the group called on the Senate President to confirm Lt. General Buratai Rtd and other former service chiefs who have been nominated as non-career ambassadors without hesitation, saying the nominees performed well in securing the country during their service.

The letter read, With profound respect to your exalted office, we wish to laud your efforts and that of the National Assembly (joint chambers) which you lead on your pursuits in the consolidation of the governance of Nigeria with the Executive under the President and Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR). This has created the enabling stability upon which the administration runs and which is suggestive of your leadership maturity, diplomacy, and sense of patriotic candour.

“We read with utter disappointment, the baseless petition letter which was addressed to your good office which was published yesterday against the anticipatory and possible confirmation of all the immediate past service chiefs including Lt. General Tukur Buratai Rtd for the confirmation of their appointments as non career Ambassadors as nominated and forwarded by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic.

“First, we must point out that the signatory to the fictitious petition is an unfocused character who has overreached himself by dubbing the power of the legislature, otherwise, it is laughable that a man being driven by ulterior motives and hatred will sit in the comfort of his room to damage the reputation of people who dedicated their lives for the protection of the territorial integrity of Nigeria and the security of Nigeria and her borders throughout their stewardship in the service. He the said Dickson Nnamdi Irogbu and his aggrandisement Nigeria Right Now are at best, was speaking for their parochial tiny and sectional non existent group. They have no mandate of the Nigerian people.

“On the allegations that the ex service chiefs should clear their names, we rise firmly to educate the ignoramus that LT. General Buratai Rtd has no pending case with any court or arbitration panel in his self posture. He left the military with a neat record and the facts speak for itself. Therefore, General Buratai's name remains unblemished and would not require any whitewashing according to the mischievous element and enemy of the Nation.

“Beyond rhetorics, the business of security is a complex architecture which required that all hands must be on deck. This was why LT.General Buratai Rtd, led the Nigerian Army in collaboration with his other colleagues during his time to ensure that Nigeria became safer than he met her when he assumed the office. It is apparent that the tide changed from the unfortunate and serial bombings that pervaded the atmosphere of the FCT and indeed all parts of Nigeria, thus, limiting the criminals in the society to perhaps only the extreme desert battlefield where the Soldiers are trying their best efforts to eliminate completely with evidential results of gradual conquest.

“The President of the Senate Sir, you are unarguably one of the most experienced lawmakers that Nigeria ever produced, therefore you know the rudiments. A non existent group food seeker will therefore not arm twist your leadership or take away your constitutional power of confirmation of the nominees of the President of the Federal Republic. His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) being a war veteran himself understood the sacrifices and loyalty of Lt.General Buratai Rtd and all other immediate past service chiefs to Nigeria. His nomination is therefore commendable and meet the expectations of majority people of Nigeria who do not see retirement as a curse but rather a blessing. Retirement is not a death sentence!

“Conclusively, we are unequivocal in our continuous trust in the leadership of the National Assembly under you to continue to stand firmly in the support of the government toward lawful causes as these nominations of the immediate past service chiefs and the likely confirmation of the Senate.

“We are proud that Lt. General Buratai Rtd typifies the rare spirit of the oneness of Nigeria throughout his duration of office as Chief of Army Staff and that has translated to significant infrastructure developments across the entire geopolitical zones of Nigeria in the military quest to promote participatory governance anchored on evenly distribution of dividends of democracy to complement the good effort of government at all levels. The reward of hard work, your Excellency Sir, is more work. We are therefore unanimous in the appreciation to Mr President for considering the immediate past service Chiefs for another duty in the call to service.

“Finally, it is on record that eminent stakeholders in Nigeria including the traditional or royal institution has not defaulted over the years in their support for the military and indeed the wider service in Nigeria and this resolve subsists. It is apparent in the embrace that the non career ambassadorial appointments of Lt. General Buratai Rtd and others has earned across Nigeria irrespective of creeds or clans or zones, since it was announced.

“May God continually equip you, Mr President of the Senate, with the energy and wisdom to sustain your leadership of the red chamber and indeed the National Assembly.”

5th Osun Youth Ambassador Awards: Our focus is to showcase Hardworking Sons, Daughters Of The State.

Aminat Ajibola, the founder of Youth Reformers Initiative has said that the focus of the Osun Youth Ambassador Awards is to showcase hardworking sons and daughters of the state.

Ajibola said this while delivering her welcome address at the 5th edition of the award ceremony held at the Aurora Event Center Osogbo, the Osun State Capital.

She stated that the significance of the Osun Youth Ambassador Awards cannot be overemphasized, adding that since in its inception, the Youth Reformers Initiative has awarded and showcased 102 youths in Osun State to the world in the last five years.

“The focus and importance of the Osun Youth Ambassador award is the showcasing of the hardworking and resourceful youths of our dear state to the country and world at large. We gather every year to celebrate their wonderful exploits in their respective endeavors.

“Through the Osun Youth Ambassador Awards, almost all of our past awardees have been exposed to better opportunities across the world and are making great impacts.

“The significance of the Osun Youth Ambassador Awards cannot be overemphasized, five years ago since its inception; we have awarded, honoured and showcased 102 Osun Youths to the world.”

She therefore, appreciated every committee member of the Youth Reformers Initiative for their tremendous contribution and hard work towards the annual event.

Ajibola also called on Nigerians to embrace the use of face masks to stem the spread of COVID-19 across the country.

As of Sunday, Nigeria has recorded 84,414 cases of the deadly coronavirus with 1,254 deaths.

The Youth Reformers Initiative founder admonished the Osun residents and Nigerians at large to stay safe and adhere to the safety precautions by wearing a face mask, using hand sanitizers as well as other COVID-19 protocols stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“The Coronavirus has evidently posed serious health and economic challenges to Nigerians as well as to the rest of the world. Many lives have been lost while million others are on the sickbed.

“As we try to recover from the negative effects, I urge all well-meaning Osun state indigenes and progressive-minded Nigerians to stay safe and adhere to the safety precautions by wearing a face mask, using hand sanitizers as well as other COVID-19 protocols stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),” she said.

At the 5th edition of the award ceremony, more than 20 Osun state youths were recognized and awarded for their exploits in their respective fields.

The Awardees showed appreciation to the founder and organisers of the award ceremony for their uncommon gesture in showcasing the beaming lights of the state.

One of the beneficiaries said the award ceremony is one of a kind adding that it is a sign of encouragement for the teeming youths of Osun state.

Abiodun Borisade, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State had shared the video with the caption;

Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, who faced dethronement earlier this year after his subjects turned on him and wrote a letter to the Osun State Government, dated June 17, 2020, to demand his dethronement, showed that a number of his subjects were still happy to have him as their King.

A Twitter influencer has sparked outrage after she was filmed enticing a child beggar with a bottle of drink only to leave her hanging.

In the video, the influencer known as Motara is seen driving in traffic when a child beggar walks up to her window to beg.

Motara motions with her bottle of drink, asking if the child wants to drink and she nods. With the window still up, Motara places the mouth of the bottle near the girl's mouth.

As the cars start moving, the girl runs after Motara's car, hoping for the drink, but the Twitter influencer continues to use the drink to raise her hopes without actually giving the child the drink.

She ends up laughing at the child before gulping down the drink and driving off.

Motara shared the video on her WhatsApp status then took it down, but it had already been captured by others and it went viral.

After she was called out, she issued an apology on Twitter.

Her apology reads:

"I made the video yesterday cause stupidly I thought it was funny.
I went ahead to foolishly post it on my whatsapp story and immediately I did a lot of people called me out on my stupidity and I deleted it cos I realized that my actions were extreme.
