Are you taking the GRE exam? Since your school uses a 4.0 scale then why the after conversion?

First question: Yes
Second question: My school somewhat adjusted her grade scores. For instance A=4 point, B=3.2, C=2.4 and D=1.6; so i had to be certain of the grade my GPA falls into. On using WES evaluator, i had to input my original score in each subject not the grades; doing that my GPA increased by 0.05.

3.81/5.00 cannot be equivalent to 3.86/4.00. You may re-calculate same using the free WES evaluation tool.
My GPA was 3.81/4.00 Caveat: My school operates on a 4 point scale.

You have to check your target school for their requirements , and the fact that this might be yes in one school doesnt mean yes in another school . Also some schools waive or dont require TOEFL some schools its mandatory .......so if you dont want to do TOEFL then its best to target the schools that this is not a requirement

You have a strong GPA for Graduate assistance so definitely take GRE if you dont want to take TOEFL , study very well for it . That will open up your choice for funding

Thank you very much sister for your valuable advice. A quick Google search shows that the school that do waive it are lowly ranked, also I will take IELP courses in English language.

The exchange rate is not smiling at all, I guess Fall 2017 will hold on for now.

No one asked any question so far! Well it means no problem with the classes above.

We have to go through the above process of Data Scraping/Collection and Cleaning due to the nature and location of our dataset. "We have cook our data before we eat it".

In a cases where you have already cooked data, then you won't pass through the collection and cleaning process.

So at this point, each day you run the script, it will extract the day's Nairaland members birthday list and save it in a CSV file. So by the time you run the script for one week, you will have 7 different CSV file containing birthday list for those seven days.

By the time you run it for 1year, you would have enough dataset to make analyses, visualizations and predictions.

In the last class, we will do some basic analyses and visualizations.

To Analyze and Visualize our data, below are some of the questions we are going to answer:-

a) How many members are celebrating their birthdays today?

b) Who is the oldest and youngest member celebrating his/her birthdays today?

c) What is the average age the celebrants?

d) How old will each celebrant be in 10years?

e) How old was each celebrant when NairaLand was established?

Till then, drop your questions or comments/suggestions.
Thumbs up to you bro for sharing your codes. I use R for my analysis but I'm also a Python enthusiast; the python code for cleaning and scrapping the data is really esoteric. My question is this:
1. After collecting the data, I decided to scrape and clean it using Excel (I can't use python since I'm still a learner), what is the python command for importing the data which is already in a csv format.
2. How do I subset the command in order to answer objectives 1-5.
3. I'm proficient in R but I'm really passionate about learning Python. How can you help me? I have downloaded some materials already anyways but its not helping enough.

It's an honor to read about Professor Adichie. I remember in 2013 when the widely acclaimed Professor Bayo Lawal told me about him being the father of Statistics in Nigeria and how excellent he was. He mentioned the names of the best brains in Statistics in Nigeria in an hierarchical order:
1. Professor Adichie of UNN
2. Professor Afonja of UI
.

5. Professor Bayo Lawal (now in Kwara State University)

Oga ponpon, your suggestions are okay but you have to put into consideration the schedule of these guys, the truth is they are busy as well. I think you and I can work something out, if you want anyways. Since this thread is about 87 pages long, we can create a book using the experiences, ideas and advice from the different contributors and also create a FAQ section where we would compile list of questions and answers, if you take from pages 1-30 and I take 31-60, then we distribute the res; this way, I think we can contribute our quota. #MyOneShilling

On a lighter note, please do not take this kind of mentality beyond here.
There are so many schools in America and I believe you have more than enough
guidance already on how to find the ones that suit you. Asking for a list sounds pretty lazy.
Use usnews.com for a start. If you do not search yourself, you risk making costly mistakes.

Lol.
Yeah I perfectly understand. I've compiled a list as well, but it's just that i want to widen my options. Well, a Nigerian adage says "If you want something best done, do it yourself"

Congratulations in advance for your convocation n for a job weldone as an undergraduate. It's good you have started preparing already. M sure u must av observed dis thread offers assistance basically for persons considering graduate studies in US n more importantly to guide persons intending to take d GRE. Studying in Canada from d little I know, u don't need GRE n Test of English (Toefl or IELTS) is exempted in some cases. So if u are able to put up a good SOP and get a professor dat u can work with prior to ur application, den the only thing u might av to worry about is d application fee. The chances are high u will get assistantship with ur profile. Same thing applies 4 US schools too except that now u will av to take both Test of English n GRE (which cost approximately 100k with d present exchange rate), n with a good sop n recommendation letter, it's kindof easy getting funding considering u also intend to apply directly 4 phd, 4low every other thing d great men in dis group av said n m sure u will b rightly guided. I hope dis helps a little

Many thanks!
It helped a lot.

Hi neahyo,
Welcome to the thread and to this beautiful journey.
Congratulations on your graduation.
You have an enviable GPA that can get you into top choice PhD programs.
I am aware of the financial challenge that one encounters during this
process, hence you have to be shrewd and prudent in your approach.
Do not apply to a program if you have not done your research exhaustively
on this program. I wasted time and money on Utah State University when I found
out later that they only waive out-of-state and I still had to pay in-state tuition.
This means I wasted time and cash on sending transcripts, test scores, letters.
Use google and usnews to your advantage. SEARCHING FOR SCHOOLS TAKES TIME, A LOT.
Prepare hard for the GRE and get impressive letters from school.
Before you apply, be sure that your prospective schools do not require the
GRE subject test, GRE Mathematics test in your case.
Good luck. Please, post further questions if you have any.

Thank you very much!
I'm on the look out for average schools [sic], If you don't mind can you please compile a list of schools that give GA/TA?

Good afternoon house,

I am very grateful to you all for your advice and assistance from page 1 to this very page 85. It is an honor sharing this platform with SirRiddy, DanjaNinja, pennstate, and every other person contributing to the advancement of this group. I'll admit i'm a secret disciple of this group since last year and the reasons are not far-fetched: One, because i was an undergraduate but by the grace of God my convocation ceremony is on June 4, 2016. Two, i am not financially buoyant to register for GRE though i have downloaded the necessary materials and i've been practicing but not as intense compared to that of someone who has fully paid.

Now, i am at crossroads as i don't know which schools to apply to but I wish to study in either USA or Canada.

My profile:

CGPA: 3.81/4.00
Course of study: Statistics

I intend to pursue a PhD program in Statistics (exempting MSc)
(Hope I'm not asking for too much)

I'm hoping for valuable responses.. Thanks

engrbrume:

Neahyo I actually enjoy your posts. Your arguements are valid. I do not have any counter arguement this time, because you're sooo right. I'm practising my form of entrepreneurship while working so as to have a plan B. Those motivational speakers who speak against employment were people who started just like me, and ended up building a business that gave them freedom to do what they want. Now escape from bosses in the office and the freedom to travel when you like, work when you like, sleeping and waking when you want to aren't fallacious in any way. There are thousands of Nigerians who live like this. But they still have to work for their money, except that they do not need permission to do what they do, and working hard while in control of their source of money brings joy. There's also the fact that many of them begin to move up the economic scale really fast. Don't you want to drive past Coscharis two or three years from now, knowing that you can afford every car in there? there are many reasons to dream. People that have these things have only one head, and I must join them.

So my brother, these things are possible. But you have to believe first.

Please just watch this video.

http://www.myinspiredmedia.com/video/rise-entrepreneur/9900/the-rise-of-the-entrepreneur-movie-the-full-movie

Thank you sir for your words of wisdom and encouragement..
Ehn ehn! lest i forget, sir, you also haven't differentiated between an hustler and an entrepreneur.....Hehhehe thanks!!
Career / Re: Excuse Me, Mr. Anti Self-employment Advocate! by neahyo(m): 11:46am On Aug 27, 2015
Hmmmnn!!! nice analysis........................

I painstakingly read all comments and contributions and i must say i'm impressed by engrbrume's careful breakdown of the merits of entrepreneurship in this decade of dwindling oil prices. However, i never underestimated the importance of entrepreneurship on a nation's economy, i only carefully pinpointed the credence most people give to it without identifying the rigorous steps and actions one need to take.

Robert Kiyosaki in Rich Dad, Poor dad pg 44. told the story of the meeting of the richest businessmen in 1923, 25 years later, one of them died penniless after living for five years on borrowed money, another died in a foreign land being broke, two other dies being broke, another went insane, two were released from prison, the last one committed suicide. If you look at the date, 1923, it was just before the 1929 market crash and the Great Depression in America, which i also suspect had a great impact on these men and their lives.

Robert K. opined that 'today we live in times of greater and faster change than these men did. I suspect there will be many booms and busts in the coming years that will parallel the ups and downs these men faced. I am concerned that too many people are too focused on money and not their greatest wealth, their education.'

Some people thinks money solve all problems, i assure you they'll have a tough ride. If people are prepared to be flexible, keep an open mind and learn, unlearn, relearn they will grow richer despite tough challenges. Intelligence solves problems and produces money. "Money without financial intelligence is money soon gone". I've personally heard stories of sport betters who were poor and suddenly rich, and then as you guess go poor again. They win millions, yet are soon back where they started. Some people naturally are indisciplined and they need to work in a well-structured organisation in order for them to possess some certain skills such as: managerial skills, teamwork, how to meet target and beat deadlines, and so on.

Many ignorant people see self-employment as an avenue to escape from saddistic superiors and also to travel when they like, work when they like, sleep and wake when they want to; all these are fallacies.

Moreover, these motivational speakers fail to differentiate between 'hustler' and 'entrepreneur' to their audience.

I'll say more as soon as i'm chanced

My two shillings!!!!
Gracias!!!!
