A video showing the moment a gas cylinder exploded while a female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state was on Facebook live have surfaced on social media.

According to reports, the gas explosion had happened in her lodge in Ifite Awka, the state capital.

Although it is unsure if she made it alive or not, eyewitnesses disclosed that the female student, identified as Precious was said to have been trapped by the explosion caused by the gas cylinder.

Some other occupants of the lodge, which is predominantly occupied by UNIZIK students sustained varying degrees of injury as a result of the inferno.

It was gathered that the female student had placed her phone close to the gas cylinder during her Facebook live session, resulting in an explosion.

“Most of the rooms in the lodge were affected and many properties were destroyed. We actually tried to quench the fire but we couldn’t until the fire service people arrived.”

Efforts to contact the owner of the lodge were unsuccessful as he was said to be away when newsmen arrived at the scene.

According to a source, “She was rushed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital and there was no doctor or medical personnel on ground to treat her. She d*ed at the gate. We were told that the doctors were on strike.

One person has been reported killed after violence erupted during a community annual festival in Ughelli Delta State.

It was said that several people sustained injuries in the violence that broke out in Ekiugbo and Oto-Iwhreko communities on Thursday evening, September 16, when some irate youths in the area reportedly resumed fresh hostilities.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said that one person that was killed and not two as being widely rumoured by residents.

The cause of the fracas that led to the violent shooting of rival communal youths is sketchy at the time of this report.

A young man identified as Isaac Opoku has been arrested at Ejisu Kranpa, for allegedly trying to sleep with his male friend.


Opoku who was being interrogated in a viral video shared online, is said to be a native of Bonwire in Ghana and was visiting a friend he met just 3 months ago at his home in Ejisu Kranpa.

It was alleged that after his friend left the room to get water for him to drink, he came back home to meet Opoku naked. He then allegedly tried to force himself on the friend but got overpowered.

Opoku was subsequently reported to authorities, leading to his arrest.
