Culture / STORY: What If There Were No Black People In The World by Nemma(m): 1:40am On Dec 17, 2015
What if There Were No Black People in the World.

This is a story of a little boy named Michael, who woke up one morning and asked his mother, "Mom, what if there were not Black people in the World?"

Well his mother thought about that for a moment, and then said, "Son, follow me around today and let's just see what it would be like if there were not Black people in the world." Mom said, "now go got dressed and we will get started."

Michael ran to his room to put on his clothes, and shoes. His mother took one look at him and said, "Michael, where are your shoes, and those clothes are all wrinkled, son. I must iron them." But when she reached for the ironing board, it was no longer there.

You see, Sarah Boone, a black women, invented the ironing board and Jan E. Matzwlinger, a black man, invented the shoe-lacing machine. "Oh well," she said, "please go and do something with your hair."

Michael ran to the room to comb his hair, but the comb was not there. You see, Walter Sammons, a black man, invented the comb.

Michael decided to just brush his hair, but the brush was gone. You see Lydia O. Newman, a black female, invented the brush.

Well this was a sight, no shoes, wrinkled clothes, hair a mess, even Mom's hair, without the hair care inventions of Madam C. J. Walker, well you get the picture.

Mom told Michael, "let's do our clothes around the house and then take a trip to the grocery store."

Michael's job was to sweep the floor. He swept and swept and swept. When he reached for the dustpan, it was not there. You see, Lloyd P. Ray, a black man, invented the dustpan. So he swept his pile of dirt over in the corner and left it there. He then decided to mop the floor, but the mop was gone. You see, Thomas W. Stewart invented the mop.

Michael yelled to this Mom, "Mom, I' m not having any luck." "Well son," she said, "let me finish washing these clothes and we will prepare a list for the grocery store." When the wash finished, she went to place the clothes in the dryer, but it was not there. You see, George T. Sammon, a black man, invented the clothes dryer.

Mom asked Michael to go get a pencil and some paper to prepare their list for the market. So Michael ran for the paper and pencil, but noticed the pencil lead was broken. Well, he was out luck because Hon Love, a black man, invented the pencil sharpener. Mom reached for a pen, but it was not there because William Purvis, a black man, invented the fountain pen

They made their way over to the car and found that it just wouldn't go. You see, Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the automatic gearshift and Joseph Gammel invented the supercharger system. They noticed that a few cars that were moving were running into each other and having wrecks because there were no traffic signals.. You see, Garrett A. Margan, a black man, invented the traffic light..

Well, it was getting late, so they walked to the market, got their groceries and returned home. Just when they were about to put away the milk, eggs and butter, they noticed the refrigerator was gone. You see, Hon Standard, a black man, invented the refrigerator. So the just left the "FOOD" on the counter..

By this time, Mike noticed he was getting mighty cold. Mom went to turn up the heat, and what do you know. Alice Parker, a black female, invented the heating furnace. Even in the summer time they would have been out of luck because Frederick Jones, a black man, invented the air conditioner.

It was almost time for Mike's father to arrive home. He usually takes the bus. But there was no bus, because its precursor was the electric trolley, invented by another black man, Elbert R. Robinson.

He usually takes the elevator from his office on the 20th floor, but there was no elevator because Alexander Miles, a black man, invented the elevator.

He usually dropped of the office mail at a nearby mailbox, but it was no longer there because Philip Downing, a black man, invented the letter drop mailbox and William Barry invented the postmarking and canceling machine.

Mike and his mother sat at the kitchen table with their head in their hands. When the father arrived he asked, "Why are you sitting in the dark?" Why? Because Lewis Howard Latimer, a black man, invented the filament within the light bulb.

Mike quickly learned what it would be like if there were no black people in the world. Not to mention if he were ever sick and needed blood. Charles Drew, a black scientist, found a way to preserve and store blood, which led to his starting the world's first blood bank.

"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."

In terms of lawmakers’ salaries as a ratio of GDP per capita, the gap is even much wider. While the salary of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person, that of a British member of parliament is just 2.7 times.
The average salary of Nigerian worker based on the national minimum wage is N18,000.00, So, the yearly salary is N18,000.00 x 12 = N216,000.00 ($1,333.00)
Remember, Yearly Salary of Nigerian Senator = $2,183,685.00.
Proportion: $2,183,685.00/$1,333.00 = 1,638
It will take an average Nigerian worker 1,638 years to earn the yearly salary of a Nigerian Senator.

Politics / Letter To President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan On His Campaign Tour Of Ondo State by Nemma(m): 6:35pm On Jan 28, 2015
Your Excellency is highly welcome to Ondo State for your campaign tour towards the 14th February Presidential Election.
I am compelled to make this open letter to your excellency to warn your Excellency about looming and imminent failure and lost of Ondo State to General Muhammadu Buhari/APC in 17 days time when the election shall hold.
Your Excellency will recall that Ondo State used to be a dominantly PDP State since 2003 when Agagu won governorship election. Even when the current Governor judicially robbed PDP of the Governorship slot using Labour Party Platform, PDP flag keeps flying and a lot of people were joining the party from LP, the ruling party.
Your Excellency will recall that a Governorship election was held on 20th October, 2012 in Ondo State in which Barr. Olushola Oke contested as the flag bearer of PDP and despite your Excellency's open support for Mimiko/LP, PDP still made a good showing as Mimiko could only win the election by 42% of the votes cast.
As soon as that election was over, PDP went into drawing board to reconcile among themselves and forgave PDP GBASIBE who did anti-party based on signal from Abuja and people started decamping into PDP from all political parties in Ondo State immediately thereafter. It may interest you to note that prominent LP stalwarts and government officials were joining PDP in droves. At the last count, the Deputy Governor, 4 Serving members of House of Reps, one serving Senator and 12 House of Assembly members have made their intention known to join PDP.
Sir, Your Excellency will also recall that the current Governor of Ondo State joined PDP unceremoniouslyin a brief occasion at the Villa where Your Excellency was conspicuously absent on the 2nd Day of October, 2014. That day can best be described as BLACK THURSDAY or THE DAY PDP FAILED IN ONDO as that day marked the beginning of the dwindling fortune of PDP(an otherwise bubbling party) in Ondo State as all People that have join PDP earlier quickly disappeared just like all those that have been intending to join PDP beat a retreat because leadership flag was handed over to Governor Mimiko that they wanted to avoid when they intend to join PDP initially.
As soon as Mimiko announced his decampment to PDP, Hon. Gbenga Edema of Ilaje State Constituency and Hon. Mrs. Yeyemofin representing Ose State Constituency joined APC. At the National Assembly, Hon. Ganny Dauda representing Akoko North East/West decamped to APC.
As if that signal was not enough to make the so call new leader adjust his style, he carried on like a GARRISON COMMANDER and started sharing elective position tickets as if he inherited them from his father's legacy. At the last count, he singlehandedly wrote the names of all the 38 slots for House of Assembly Seats, House of Representativesand Senatorial Seats with reckless and flagrant disdain to PDP Constitution and Guidelines.
Despite this aberration, he never deemed it fit to call the aspirants who paid in Millions to obtain forms for any reconciliation meeting.
Sir, the so call Leader of PDP in Ondo State manipulated the screening process to ensure that only his list of 38 was cleared by the PDP screening Committee and it took 6 days of consistent protest at the Wadata House, Abuja by over 110 other wrongly and unjustifiably disqualified PDP Aspirants which include but not limited to Barr. Adedipe, Architect Agbesua, Dr. Olu Agunloye, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, Rt. Hon. Agbonmuserin and 6 Serving House of Reps Members just to mention a few before the NWC was forced to clear everyone.
All attempts to make Mimiko carry everyone along and see reason why internal democracy should be allowed fell on deaf ears and the irony is that APC was busy conducting primary election all over the country hence the reason why APC is settled and PDP has remained a House of Commotion. Mimiko has hijacked PDP in Ondo State by forcing Alabi out. As it is now, Mimiko is the Leader in Ondo State, his best friend and crony is the Party Chairman and his Major Contractor who have not been able to finish Doom Project for 6 years and who is not a politician is appointed by Mimiko as the State Coordinator for your Campaign. The original owners of PDP are now relegated to the background!
At the last count, over 100 prominent members of PDP and LP have decamped to APC in Ondo State. This list includes all former Speakers of Ondo State House of Assembly who are still alive, 7 former Commissioners and Senior Special Adviser to Late Governor Agagu, 7 former Commissioners and SSA of Gov. Mimiko which include Hon. Niran Sule (the most influential Commissioner of Mimiko), former State Chairman of PDP, 4 serving House of Reps members, one Federal Commissioner and a Deputy Director of Goodluck Campaign, 9 former Chairmen of Council, former Directors, former Permanent Secretary, former Head of Service, Captains of Industries etc just to mention a few.
Sir, I make bold to say that since 2nd October, 2014 when Gov. Mimiko joined PDP, no single soul whether small or big have joined PDP but instead, Prominent People are leaving PDP and resigning from His government to join APC. I challenge him to mention one name to the contrary.
I once again welcome you to Ondo State but what is going on as campaign for your re election is nothing but deceit. It took a public holiday to be declared in Ondo State before they can see appreciable crowd to RENT to democracy park to receive Your Excellency. The holiday was declared so that Teachers, Civil Servants, Students of Tertiary institutions and artisans can be mobilised to receive you. THAT CROWD IS FAKE!
It may interest you to note sir that Ondo State workers are not being paid as at when due. As I write this letter, workers have not received December Salary(Hunger at Christmas) and January Salary in now due for payment. These are the bulk of the electorates.
To be able to mobilise these people for you, it took two weeks of begging, persuasion and inducement at Adegbemile Hall and government House where various groups were invited for begging, persuasion and inducement to make the occasion of your campaign grand!
The People receiving you are 80% Civil Servants, Local Government Workers and Teachers who ordinarily should not be politicians by virtue of their callings but have to be dragged in to save the face of your host that has lost his electoral goodwill and value in Ondo State.
Finally, I wish to tell you ahead of time that Your Excellency has lost Ondo State to APC as the slogan in town now is ‪#‎ FEBUHARI‬#, ‪#‎ CHANGE‬#, ‪#‎ SAI‬BABA# etc? and this is well known to your host sir! Once again, you are welcome to Ondo State!
BARR. TOLU BABALEYE writes from Akungba, Ondo State!
