She had already applied and was denied..where she tried explaining...

Even though one cud be stamped in for 6months, staying over 3months is a red flag...and wud need some explanation to convince the vo, she stayed about 16months total...
Covid started march 2020, her 6months visa entry stamp ended jan 2020.so she cant use covid as excuse, as she came home October 2020.
Even in the midst of COVID, people still came home via the us and naija govt ethiopian airlines covid evacuation flights....so her overstay is indefensible.
She can however pray and hope on luck..and continue reapplying...she gat nothing to loose, but her visa fee


To be honest, her explanation is very weak....the US is firm on over stayers...3yrs standard ban, 10yrs ban for misrepresentation...

As a retiree, the consular will fear that she might want to go and retire finally to America so you need to create ties or activities for her in Nigeria .

Eg, her husband, children and grand children, she is an active elder in the church or mosque, she just opened a big hypermarket and she is the acting CEO. She is the secretary of her employer retirees pension payment department, etc.

The last part is, she should be able to communicate her activities with the consular . Some of her ties should be well indicated in the form ds 160. She may not have time to talk much so ds 160 will say the rest.

You can reapply as soon as possible, and as soon as your mom is ready to display good ties to Nigeria which will give the consular assurance that she is not going to overstay.

US visa denial is not a capital punishment. Sometimes, they want to test your travel reason which means ,if what you are traveling for is genuine and important, you will reapply.

Hi, pls how else can she show good ties to Nigeria? My 2 younger ones are in Nigeria with their family, she has a house in Nigeria as well even though she is retired.

Then they are right your mum overstayed. She could have come back before March..even that would have been over staying .

You can try Canada visa renewal , I doubt it will affect it.

It was the Covid year. She was to come back January as that’s when her 6mnths ended but she stayed. The shut down happened by March- immediately airports opened she came bck which was by October

Please I need suggestions; my mom had her interview on Wednesday where she was denied. She had qualified for IW but was given the form 221g and we were able to get interview date( we paid since 2022). She was denied because she over stayed. The VO asked why and she said it was Covid but he pointed out to her that she ought to hv come back even before the shut down
Also asked what she was doing- my mom is retired and was spending time with her elder sister who is also retired ( told the VO this)
Asked how many kids she has and how many were in the country
Asked who was responsible for her upkeep all through the stay in the US to which she answered that I was the one responsible

My question is- can we reapply? And how soon? As the other reason for wanting to go to the US is my cousins wedding holding later in 2025.

Please can anyone help with this, are there places at the embassy where one can put their belongings while they go for their interview? My mom has her interview this week and there is nobody to go with her who can hold on to her belongings during the process

we try to reschedule the appointment but the reschedule option is not available.

Please does interview take place on Saturday's at US embassy or what can he do?

* You are a smart son, for having kept the Aug appt letter and the rescheduled email.

1. Naturally, if you log in to AVITS , print out the new (blank) appointment letter , combine it with the old appointment and the rescheduled email, then Mama should be fine to attend her interview come November 15th.

2. But before that, use all the printouts as suggested in sense - 1 above to open a support ticket (complain message) inside Mama's AVITS profile , and call the held-desk verbally. Perhaps, they may ask you to reprint a clearer appointment letter .

PS: Momsy's IW was converted to physical interview for personal questioning. They want to know if she has not being doing some au pair, if she is still fit physically for travel, or perhaps she overstayed in her previous travel.

Yes, she overstayed during her last travel. It was during the Covid period where all the flights were grounded and I indicated this in her DS160. Yes we now have a clearer letter in her AVIS site with all the details , but I rescheduled once from Aug - May(I don’t hv this Particular letter) I have Aug appointment letter, email from US embassy rescheduling to November and the appt letter from her AVIS for November
She intends to take all of them, I just hope they won’t ask for the May one.

Please can someone help- so my mom’s interview was initially Aug 13th 2024 and then I was able to get a more recent in May, few weeks to the interview in May we were sent an email to reschedule to November 5th. The problem now is that I forgot to print her invitation letter before the old site went away, on the new site I can see that she has an appointment but no date and time on the letter. Is there a way I can get the appointment letter from the old site? As we don’t know what
time she should appear at the consulate for her interview.
Also we still have her old MVR payment receipt from GTB as she had applied for interview waiver but she was returned with the 221g and the earliest date we got was this year
Pls I hope this will not cause any issue? Can anyone help? If you have been in this situation before

I stayed 6 months and 17 days in 2020 during the covid lockdown, however before the ending of my 6 month stay stamped at the POE, i applied for extension of my stay. I left america immediately flights were made available for nigerians in July 2020. Did you mom apply for extension? If she did , then i guess she wont have issues during her interview.

So overstaying during covid should not be an issue as long as you applied for extension because I have done dropbox after then and travelled to the US 3 times since the renewal.

Unfortunately she didn’t. I hope her interview goes well, that’s if they don’t reschedule again.

1. You cannot expedite (fast track / request for emergency) anything when you are placed on 221g (Administrative processing) because the embassy herself is waiting on further information or instruction as regarding your mum's visa decision .

2. Your mum's overstayed back in 2020 might have been given another meaning (not covid related) by the embassy , thereby trying to see if they should impose the 181 days unlawful presence (overstayed) attracts 3 yrs visa ban.

4. Another angle is that if your mum has visited one or two of her children , then the embassy might be doing background checks on the children (s) as well as your mum's activities while in the USA.

5. In all, providing the correct and required items / information (s) required according to the 221g slip promptly and accurately can speed up your mum's administrative processing.

6. Keep eyes on your mum's email and usually check spam mails because you should not miss any correspondence at this time . Your only option is to keep praying and wait till November . 221g administrative process can be indefinite but the embassy is working on it.

1. In that case you may not get the 221g slip again because It seems your follow up interview is a verbal aptitude oriented.

2. Email (via feedback option) or call the CGI for better clarification if additional or missing documents are needed. But i don't think they
need you to come along with any supporting documents otherwise they would have stated it.

3. In this respect , flash back to your DS 160 data base and master off hand what you have written therein.

Hello guys, please is there anyother way to get interview dates if you get the 221g slip?
My mom applied for interview waiver back in 2022 and she got the 221g slip, we weren’t able to get dates until I saw for this May. They have now resheduled it to November. She overstayed in 2020 because of the COVID-19 shut down. Has anybody faced this before.

Hey 🤠

1. Login to her cgi profile and look out for update profile... click on it and the system will takes you to her bio-data page... look out for where DS 160 number and Passport number is written (old ones), clear it off and type your new DS 160 number and new passport number in the spaces ...stroll downward and click on save.

2. After 3 days . Log back to Mama's cgi profile and click on Appointment.... it will take you to download Appointment or email Appointment... choose anyone that fits you and print out a new visa appointment letter for Mama. ** The new visa appointment letter will carry the new ds 160 and the new passport numbers (automatic update completed).

3. Regarding the MRV. Mama is good to attend her interview with the new passport and the mrv payment receipt. You cannot edit or amend the MRV (except if GTB will re-issue a new one but i doubt the possibility). But the good news is that Mama's new passport will also carry her old passport number (which reflects on the mrv receipt ). ** Alternatively, she can attend the interview with both old and new Passports.

No, just when I was filling her DS 160 form

She however overstayed during Covid year-2020 because there were no flights as all flights were cancelled, I stated that when I was filling her DS160.
Could that be the reason they said she doesn’t qualify for IW

I submitted documents about a month now, tried tracking it and it has been showing ‘no status’ ever since
Nothing like administrative processing or even refusal as others might see
Then on the dashboard, initially it showed passport with the consulate and now the delivery dashboard is blank

Abeg who has similar issues, because I haven’t gotten an update for passport pickup or anything related

Hello Guys....I paid for one way DHL to submit my passport to Lagos, I just got an email from VFS that my passport is ready and to pay for their courier services. Price is 11k+, is there an alternative to this as I stay in lagos seeing as I paid about 2k to dispatch it to them. Would they allow me pay DHL to pick up? Has any body done otherwise?
