Written by: Sam Nwaoko - Ado-Ekiti October 30, 2015 EKITI State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the state will further explore agricultural opportunities which he said he discovered during his recent pilgrimage to Israel. The governor made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen after arriving from Israel. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, quoted the governor to have said: “My trip to Israel was both religious and economic. We went there to pray for Ekiti State and Nigeria. There were other state governors from Benue, Plateau and even the Speaker of the House of Representatives was there. “By God’s grace, our state will experience great rebirth in all ramifications. I will use the fresh anointing from God to pray for our dear state. The agricultural opportunities we found out in Israel, we will further explore to bring the sector back to the forefront,” he said. Commenting on the revelation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, that he prayed for him to become the speaker, Fayose said all the glory belongs to God. “Yes, he came and we prayed. God can use anybody. But all the glory belongs to God. Those trying to twist what happened for political reason, that is their own cup of tea. As far as I am concerned, God can use anybody for His glory,” he said. source:www.tribuneonlineng.com/node/20960 |

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has rejected the title of Acting Governor, saying that he’s still the number one citizen of the state. Udom said it is misleading for people to address him as acting governor as a result of the nullification of election in 18 out of the 31 local government areas by the Election Petitions Tribunal A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aniekan Umanah yesterday, said: “It is unfortunate that a section of the media are unaware of the salient provisions of the 1999 Constitution regarding election and inauguration of governor of a state, talk-less of the 2011 Electoral Act. Umanah recalled that the Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which sat in Abuja directed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a rerun election in 18 local government areas of the state within 90 days. “This does not mean that the office of the governor is vacant, as the tribunal also confirmed Emmanuel as governor,” he continued. “The Electoral Act specifically provides that in a situation such as we have now, the governor remains in office until he exhausts all appeal windows available to him. “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that sponsored the governor has indicated its intention to appeal the judgment of the tribunal. While the case runs its course, the governor remains in office, contrary to the falsehood by a segment of the press, serving the interest of the opposition,” the commissioner added. source:dailypost.ng/2015/10/30/stop-addressing-me-as-acting-governor-im-still-in-charge-of-akwa-ibom-udom/

By Emeka Anaeto, Economy Editor Barely 24 hours to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, less than half of the 52 million bank customers have been registered, a development that may have caused discomfort in the banking industry. Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had said no extension would be made while non-registered bank customers would be barred from accessing their money or any transaction in their account after tomorrow. About 26 million bank customers would be affected by the shut-out. An official of the apex bank told Vanguard yesterday that the registration window would still be opened after tomorrow, but unregistered customers would not be allowed access to their accounts. The official, who claimed that the exact figures of registered bank customers would not be ready until next week, however lamented that “less than half of total bank customers have been captured as at Monday this week. “Field reports show that there has been increased surge in the number of registrations per day since last week, but it is clear that we may not exceed 50 percent by the deadline.” Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria Plc,jubril aku had said last month that bank customers who fail to meet the October 31 deadline to enroll on the BVN network will have their accounts frozen. Aku, who spoke at the end of the 324th meeting of the bankers’ committee in Lagos, said there was no going back on the new deadline set by CBN for customers to obtain their BVN. He said: “There will be no extension of the October 31 deadline. All efforts have been made by the committee, CBN and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System for bank customers to obtain their BVN. “The customers, who fail to meet the deadline will not be able to operate their accounts until they comply.” source:www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/bvn-deadline-26m-bank-accounts-to-be-frozen/ |
