The Spiritual Head of Cherubim and Seraphim Movement, Most Reverend Samuel Abidoye, in what seemed like a prophesy, said President Muhammadu Buhari will surprise Nigerians with his incredible performance in 2016. The spiritual head, speaking in Galilee land along Ogbomosho-Ilorin expressway on Thursday while declaring open the 75th Annual Conference of the church, urged Nigerians to be patient with the president as he needs to clear the rot from previous administration before he can bring about the desired change he promised. According to him, “Nigerians should expect incredibly good performance from President Buhari in 2016. “People will be surprised by the progress he will make so; Nigerians should be very patient with him now. People should always remember that he had been there before so, he knows what to do at the right time to make the desired change he promised,” the cleric added. “The past administrations which hurried in their governments, we knew where they left us so this time around, I plead with Nigerians to be very patient with Buhari. He will need to clear these mess before he can do anything tangible; he has not spent up to a year so we should be patient and stop criticising him,” Abidoye added. On the issue of insurgency, the cleric said Nigeria can only be saved by divine intervention. He said Nigeria is still standing strong because the people have not stopped praying and it was the prayer that has kept the nation. He therefore, called on all Nigerians, religious leaders and groups to come together and hold special prayers for peace to return to the country. Meanwhile, it will be recalled that some weeks back, the general superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, had commended the president for his fight against corruption. He said, “I am a layman when it comes to politics. But from what we can see, I believe that the president is in the right direction and if we support him with our comments and in other ways, I believe that we will see corruption brought down very quickly.” source:dailypost.ng/2015/11/06/buharis-performance-in-2016-will-surprise-nigerians-head-of-cherubim-and-seraphim/

Ben Murray -Bruce Cautions NCC, Says MTN Fine Sends Wrong Signal To Investors Senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district Ben Murray- Bruce, has described the imposition of $5.2 billion fine on MTN Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as a bad signal to foreign investors. In a statement made available to Journalists in Abuja, Murray-Bruce who was named Senate Committee Chairman on Privatization, yesterday, noted that the decision will hurt Nigeria and investors coming to the country. “The recent $5.2 billion fine imposed on MTN Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission is probably the most damaging action ever taken against Nigeria’s drive for Foreign Direct Investment. “MTN is not without fault and her actions and inactions are deserving of a strong rebuke from our authorities. However, the extent of the fine by the Nigerian Communications Commission is such that it sends a very wrong signal to foreign investors and gives them the impression that Nigeria is in a desperate financial situation due to the sudden drop in crude oil prices and wants to get alternative revenue by any means necessary. “As a patriotic Nigerian I know this is not true. However, I know that perception is also reality. “Foreign investors in Nigeria currently feel vulnerable and those contemplating investing in Nigeria are putting such plans on hold as their boards and management pause to take in the consequence of what just happened to MTN Nigeria. “Many pundits point to the drop in the value of MTN shares in their home country and the temporary suspension in trading of such shares by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. “What is perhaps going unnoticed is that the action of the Nigerian Communications Commission has also caused a negative ripple effect on the shares of other foreign investors operating in Nigeria even though they have not flouted any of our laws and regulations. “In the long run, the move hurts Nigeria more than it hurts MTN and may be described as cutting our nose in order to spite our face. “I call on the Federal Government to immediately and publicly take steps to remedy the situation and restore investor confidence in Nigeria by resolving this impasse with tact with a view to our long term financial interests rather than our immediate interests,” Murray-Bruce said source:www.informationng.com/2015/11/ben-murray-bruce-cautions-ncc-says-mtn-fine-sends-wrong-signal-to-investors.html |

By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke ABUJA — CITING mismanagement of funds, the Senate, yesterday, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to begin immediate probe of his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, in his handling of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P. The red chamber said it was imperative that President Buhari ask his predecessor to account for every penny spent during the latter‘s administration on the SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes. This came just as it ruled against the implementation of the N5,000 monthly stipend to unemployed Nigerian youths as the President promised during his campaign. The advice to probe Jonathan was sequel to an additional prayer moved by Senator Babajide Christopher Omoworare to Senator Bassey Albert Akpan-sponsored motion, entitled: “Urgent need to curb the soaring rate of unemployment in Nigeria,” which he presented for consideration during yesterday’s plenary. After the initial recommendations of the motion, Senator Philip Aduda raised an additional prayer, urging the Federal Government to fulfill one of its numerous campaign promises. “The Federal Government should immediately commence the payment of the N5,000 monthly stipend it promised during the pre-election campaign,” Aduda moved. The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, rose and seconded the additional prayer. But Omoworare raised the Senate Standing Order 53(6) to oppose the additional prayer. Bickering between APC, PDP This led to bickering between senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and opposition Peoples Democratic, PDP. The Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, however, intervened, after about 22 minutes to bring the bickering to an end. Saraki asked Aduda to repeat his additional prayer, which he latter did. When Saraki put the additional prayer to voice vote, the shout of ‘ayes’ from the opposition senators signifying their call for strict implementation of the President’s campaign promise was overwhelming but the Senate President, however, hit his gavel for the ‘nay’ shout from the ruling party senators, who were against the implementation of the policy. The Senate President, thereafter, gave Omoworare the privilege of raising another additional prayer. Moves to probe Jonathan “I want to move that the immediate past government be made to account for every penny spent on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes, and I so move, Mr. President,” Omoworare said. When Saraki put the question to voice vote, the ayes response came from the APC senators, but the PDP senators kept mute to the nay call. In the motion, Akpan observed that the latest figures of Nigeria’s soaring unemployment situation by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBC) has increased to 8.2 percent in the second quarter of 2015 from 7.5 percent in the first quarter of 2015 and 6.4 percent in the last quarter of 2014. “The latest statistics as released by the bureau reveals that economically active population, or working age comprising Nigerians within the age range of 15 to 64, is now 103.5 million, increasing from 102.8 million in the last quarter of 2015, while the unemployed labour force now stands at 74 million Nigerian youths. This is truly a calamity,” he noted. source:www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/sure-p-senate-asks-buhari-to-probe-jonathan/ |
