Ahead of the 2015 general elections, a former Head of State and a Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday urged members of the party to ensure they obtain their permanent voters card, as doing so is the only way they can vote the ruling PDP government out of power. General Buhari gave the advice at the governorship declaration of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-rufai, in Kaduna. Thousands of APC members and supporters trooped out to this trade fair complex as early as 9:00am to witness the declaration of intention by the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The arrival of General Buhari at the ceremony elicited this crowd of supporters who saw it as a major boost to El-rufai’s governorship ambition. While he publicly endorsed El-rufai for governor of Kaduna State on the platform of APC, General Buhari also noted that the problem of Nigeria required good leaders at all levels of government to be able to solve them. he declared that only an APC government was capable of transforming the country. The former Head of State further described El-rufai as the best person to transform Kaduna State from its present condition. He also lamented the state of insecurity and unemployment in the country, and however appealed to APC members to elect him as their candidate for the 2015 election. Addressing the huge crowd at the ceremony, El-rufai promised to provide true public service with fairness, equity and justice in order to transform the state from its present level. He also assured them that his administration would make the security of lives and property a priority by identifying the causes of intolerance and communal violence and promised to rebuild and expand water supply, rural electrification and roads infrastructure across the state. He told the gathering that he had consulted widely with all categories of people including traditional rulers and opinion leaders which informed his decision to contest for the governorship seat. www.channelstv.com/2014/11/03/2015-go-get-voters-card-kick-pdp-buhari/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
[b][b][color=#006600][/color] The outgoing Minister of State for Education and Rivers State gubernatorial aspirant, Nyesom Wike has come out to say that he believes the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi must regret decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike, who is widely tipped to replace Governor Amaechi in the 2015 polls made the assertion while in an interview with Olalekan Adetayo of The Punch. In the course of the interview, Wike talked about a number of issues, including allegations of that he betrayed the Governor among others. Read excerpts of the interview below: How will you respond to those who hold the view that by resigning your ministerial position for your governorship ambition, you are leaving certainty for uncertainty? If you say I left certainty for uncertainty, you are asking whether I am sure of winning the election. What you should understand in life is that there is nothing that you partake in that does not involve risk. Every human endeavour involves taking risk. However, this type of risk, I can tell you, is the one that has a success rate of 80 per cent and a failure rate of 20 per cent. So I will say that I am not leaving certainty for uncertainty. The Peoples Democratic Party is the predominant party as far as Rivers State is concerned. So there is no fear for anything. The structure is on ground. What we need to do is to work with everybody to ensure that the All Progressives Congress does not go back to the Government House although we know that it was the mandate of the PDP that the governor took to the APC. The current governor is said to be doing well. What new things are you planning to bring on board if elected governor of Rivers State in 2015? We are bringing so many things. We will ensure good governance. Good governance is not only about constructing roads. Good governance also includes or respect for the rule of law. Look at the state House of Assembly, today, state lawmakers sit in the Government House. So they are at the beck and call of the governor. Whenever he wants them to sit and approve something for him, they sit in the Government House and do it. Thereafter, they adjourn. That is not democracy. We will give the legislature the required independence. We will also give the traditional rulers their deserved respect. We will also give attention to infrastructure. Take for instance, there are only two roads in Rivers: Ekwere Road and Aba Road. Port Harcourt roads are bad, go and check. Look at the schools too. As the Minister of State, Education, I had to apply to the Presidency to intervene in some schools. We have been able to intervene in not less than 20 schools in the state. So, as far as education is concerned, the state government will just build one modern primary school along the road and showcase it to every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes into Rivers State. Meanwhile, these schools are not in the rural areas. What the governor does is to build some of these schools on the road to deceive people that more schools have been given a facelift. Look at the health sector, all the general hospitals are dead. No one is functioning. Look at how the government has wasted millions of naira talking about the mono rail. Is that what the people need now? What traffic are they going to curtail From what point to what point? Where the mono rail is, there is no single traffic. There is no population there and it is not more than 2km. As I speak to you, the mono rail is stalled. Each day, they advertise that they are on course. As I speak to you now, when they read this interview, they will tell workers the next day to move there so that people will see them working. Look at the Karibi Whyte Hospital, the governor demolished the teaching hospital we used to have in Port Harcourt and said he was going to build a 1000- bed hospital. As I speak to you, nobody knows where that hospital is located. We have a lot of things to do, particularly in building our people’s confidence. Everybody has lost confidence in Amaechi’s administration. That is where we are. So, there are so many things that we are going to do and we are going to drastically pursue them. I have talked about the education sector, health sector, judiciary, etc. We have a stadium within the city, he abandoned that stadium and said he was going to build a new stadium where there are no people living yet. That is to just let it be that he built a stadium, meanwhile there is Liberation Stadium in the city. How will you react to reports that the political calculation in the state does not support an Ikwerre man becoming the governor after Amaechi who is also from Ikwerre? Who does the calculation? Politics is all about propagating theories. If you say it does not favour one area, which area does it favour? I do not want to become governor because I am an Ikwerre man. It has to be put in perspective that I want to become governor to redeem my party, to make sure that APC which has no business to be in Rivers State is gone forever. I don’t want to see myself as running because I am an Ikwerre man. I want to see myself as running because I have something to offer, to make a change for Rivers State to become the state that people want it to be. PDP is not the ruling party as it is today in Rivers State. As an opposition party, what you are required to do is to field a candidate that has the capacity to match the ruling party for it to be able to take over the machinery of government. Opposition parties do not talk about whose turn it is. You only talk about whose turn it is when you are in government. The circumstance the PDP found itself today is such that it must go for whoever has the capacity and the confidence of the electorate to win the election. That is what the PDP needs. All these talks are the imagination and propaganda of the APC government in Rivers State because they know who to be afraid of. They have said bringing out Wike is a walk-over for them, so we are helping them to win. They should not bother themselves. How will you rate your performance as a minister? How will I set examination for myself and mark it? Those of you who are out there should be able to know. When we were given the opportunity, did we make any impact? But as a human being and with the kind of support I got from my colleagues and the President, I think we did make a lot of impacts, particularly at the basic education level. You can see it everywhere. Take for example, when we came on board, how many people wanted to go to Unity Colleges? But now, look at the huge number that apply to go to the colleges, not less than 200,000 for only 20,000 capacity. That confidence has been brought back. There were so many changes brought to the colleges, employing new teachers, putting basic infrastructure that were hitherto not there. It was when we came on board that we pursued the issue of almajiri education; it was not there before. The issue of girl education was tackled. We are not saying we have achieved what we ought to achieve but we can see the progress that we have made. Look at the issue of vocational schools not only for skill acquisition but also for basic education. Fundamental changes and innovations have been put in place during our administration. What were the personal efforts you put in to resolve the crisis between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities? For me, it is not a personal thing. It was a collective effort put together by the government. The President in particular played a lot of role; although it was when I was there as the Supervising Minister of Education that the matter was resolved. Prof. Ruqqayatu Rufai did a lot before she left. I continued from there. We thank God that we were able to resolve it but I cannot say it was my personal effort. But as the then Supervising Minister, obviously, I did make a lot of impact to see that the strike was called off. But fundamentally, the President played a very crucial role in resolving that impasse. How do you feel when people speak harshly about the quality of Nigerian graduates, describing them as half-baked? Well, because of the quality of education we have had, you know that education was bad in the past 10 to 20 years. That is why it is not easy for you to see a turn- around immediately, it takes time. That is why the Federal Government is injecting fund to revitalise not just the higher institutions but also the primary education because if you get it wrong at the primary education level, it will be difficult at the tertiary level. Lack of basic infrastructure is a problem. Lack of qualified teachers is also a problem. The Federal Government has been able to focus on these issues: infrastructure and quality of teachers. Training and re- training of teachers, making sure that teachers are availed with current happenings and are able to compete globally with their colleagues. You can see today that out of 13 centres of excellence by the World Bank, Nigeria alone has 10. Ten Nigerian universities are centres of excellence for research purposes. It has never happened before. Back to Rivers politics, is it true that Governor Amaechi was instrumental to your appointment as a minister? It depends on what you mean by being instrumental. He sent more than 10 names to the President for nomination and my name was one of those names. The word “instrumental” may be difficult because people have submitted names and Mr. President rejected such names. He may be right after all by accusing you of stabbing him in the back? That is a laughable thing. When you say “betrayal” and “stabbing,” we must have agreed on something. Maybe he said when you go to that place, do this and now you are not doing that. Or that there is something we agreed on that I refused to implement, that is when you can talk of stabbing or betrayal. Did he tell me that as I go to the Federal Executive Council, I should oppose Mr. President’s policies and I am not doing that? Did he tell me that as I get to that place, he will leave the PDP and I will have to join him? So when he says stabbing and betrayal, one should ask what actually he is talking about. Or is he expecting that as he is taking on Mr. President and ridiculing the office of the President, I should have supported that? Is it that because I did not support him in abusing the President and his office, I have stabbed Amaechi and betrayed him? Look at the person talking about betrayal. Everybody in this country knows that Governor Amaechi was not in the state, he was in Ghana. Most of the people who are running around Amaechi now were nowhere to be found. I challenge anybody. I know that when I did my thanksgiving, when God saved me from the hands of those who wanted to assassinate me, the governor said one quality I have is that I am a man of character. He is on tape. He said this because when he was in Ghana, I championed his fight here. I knew what was on ground. There was everything for me to have betrayed him and I did not do that. So is it when he became a governor that I will start betraying him? When I had all the opportunity to betray him, I did not do that. It is laughable. I championed his re-election, I did not betray him. It was a big hell. You see, in politics, when you disagree with somebody, the only way you describe it is that the person has betrayed you. Where is the betrayal? If you hear the circumstance of my appointment as a minister, you will know who really betrayed who. If not by God’s grace, I won’t have been a minister. You can submit somebody’s name and go back to say that he is not the person you want. You can submit somebody’s name and the State Security Service will disqualify the person and you will come back to tell the person that it is no longer your business since it is the SSS that disqualified him. We know what happened in my case. So who actually betrayed who? Amaechi stabbed me in the back after I had passed through what I passed through for him and with him. When he got the power, he now saw that I was a threat. People started telling him that this man that did everything and made sure you became a governor, what you should do first is to edge him out. You worked with the governor as his Chief of Staff and the Director-General of his campaign organisation, what is the cause of this current disagreement? When he saw that I was to run for Senate, he denied me that with the hope that he was going to run for Senate in 2015. Unfortunately or fortunately for him, he became the chairman of the Governors Forum. He then saw the forum as an avenue to really launch his political aspiration in the country, which is now manifesting. The whole essence of Amaechi was not really to make me a minister, he believed that if he sent me out of the state, my influence would be cut and I would lose the support of the people because I will not always be there. He does not understand that God does not work that way. While he pushed me away so that I would not be relevant in the state, he did not know that God had a different plan. God said you are not just pushing him away, you are making Nigerians to know him more. Before he knew it, it was too late for him. So it was like ‘let me push him out’ and God turned it around. He lobbied that I should be given a Minister of State. Of course, as a Minister of State, what are your powers? But God does not work that way. The whole thing is ‘take him out of the state, I will see how he wants to do whatever he wants to do. I will be free to put anybody I want to be the governor. If this man is in the state, he will likely give me a problem, so let me push him out.’ But pushing me out even became more problem for him. With this glaring difference between you and the governor, is there any possibility of the two of you reconciling and becoming best of friends again? The issue of best of friends is neither here nor there. We are both in different political parties. I think one day, he will realise that he has made a mistake and come back to the party that produced him. The party that made him to be speaker for eight years, the party that made him to be governor for almost eight years and the party that made him whatever he is today. I believe knowing him well, at his most quiet moment, he is regretting. Also knowing him well for his ego, he will say instead for him to do that, people will now know that he has lost his conscience, so he will remain where he is. If not that, if you ask him very well, he knows that he made a terrible mistake. Like I said, PDP is a family, we will welcome anybody, prodigal sons can change. There is nothing wrong in forgiving him. The Grassroots Development Initiative is an association you are sponsoring in the state to add to the political strength of the PDP. Do you think the group is achieving this aim? Absolutely yes. That is what you can see today. Before now when Amaechi was in the PDP, we knew it, we saw it coming. We did not have the capacity to use the PDP to mobilise. So we formed this association to use it to mobilise, knowing well that he would one day jump ship. We want to ensure that the PDP does not die. So when he was moving out, the GDI became the strength of PDP. That is why we can talk about PDP in Rivers State. A party that has no governor, a party that people thought it was over when the governor jumped ship. GDI has done tremendously well. How do you react to reports that the group is responsible for some of the political violence recorded in some of the local government areas of the state, especially in Obio/Akpor, Etche and recently in Port Harcourt and of course in Abuja? What was the violence in Obio/Akpor? APC wanted to hold a rally and the police said they did not obtain permission, which is the normal thing to do. Where is the violence in Port Harcourt? In Abuja, we came here for the reintegration committee. I was there and those who petitioned were there. A BoT member was there, former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, was there, all National Assembly members were there, all assembly members were there. They were there to make presentations to the committee. Where was the violence? You know that in politics, we can be here discussing while supporters may be quarreling outside. So where is the violence? Of course, they may be struggling to come in. Those are natural things in politics. Did it affect us not to do what we were doing? Did it stop the panel from taking reports from people? It did not. So I don’t know the violence they are talking about. GDI is not a violent group. What is your response to insinuations that you are a stooge to the President and his wife? What is the meaning of a stooge? Stooge to do what? Do I need to wait for the President to tell me that somebody wants to cut short my political participation? Do I have to wait for the wife of the President to tell me that I should participate actively in politics? We are not kids here. Does the President need to tell me to go to court to realise our mandate? So, if I am the President’s stooge in Rivers State, who are his stooges in other states? I am very happy with the kind of President we have: very calm, very humble. We decided not to even tell the President when we were fighting this war because he is somebody who does not believe that there should be crisis. But for us, we know Amaechi very well. My father tells me that when a mad man flogs you, one mistake you must not make is to start running. When you are running, the mad man will continue to flog you. But if a mad man flogs you, take something and hit the mad man back. He will feel the pain and he will start running. That is what is happening in Amaechi’s case. One mistake you must not make is to allow him intimidate you. So, I am not a stooge to anybody. Mr. President has never called me one day to go and fight Amaechi, neither has his wife done that. As the primaries of the PDP draw nearer, what are you expecting as an aspirant? You don’t prepare for examination because it holds tomorrow. You start preparing for examination from the day your lecture starts. The problem of most people is that they only prepare for election when the timetable is out. For those of us who know politics, we have been involved in it. We have started participating from time, to make ourselves available to the party, to make sure that we build the party to make it strong. You can see the difference. A student who starts preparing from the first day of lecture and a student who starts preparing because there is examination cannot be the same. I have never asked anybody to impose me and I don’t want any imposition. What I want is for people to test their popularity; that is internal democracy. But a situation where somebody will come and tell you that it is his father’s turn, therefore somebody should not run for election, is that democracy? Our team is quite sure today that if they do free and fair election in Rivers State, we will win very well. We are ready to face anybody in the election. Even at the general election, we are ready for the APC. They know we are ready, that is why APC people cannot sleep. The members can’t sleep and so they planted their moles in the PDP to cause problems, to say that it is the turn of A or B, when they know that we are in the opposition. http:///wCt2oVKkpx |
An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a landlord, Iyabo Adakeja, (47), to three years imprisonment for removing a tenant’s roofing sheet without his consent to forcefully cause him to vacate his apartment. The Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, gave the verdict in the judgment. NAN reports that the Police Prosecutor, Mr David Erima, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 13, 2013 at about 3:00 p.m. at No 38, Ekute Street, Ado-Ekiti. On the said date, the accused, unlawfully and forcefully, ejected her tenant, Sunday Agbaje and also threatened his life. Erima said that consequent upon the removal of the roof, heavy rain poured and damaged Agbeje’s property, including mattresses, camera, fridge, generator, DVD, clothes, television sets and other items, worth over N300, 000. He said the offence was punishable under Section 401 of the Criminal Code; Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2013. Counsel to the accused, Mr Yemi Adebayo, urged the court to be lenient in the dispensation of justice to his client. The magistrate, however, sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment or to pay an option of fine of N50, 000. www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/10/31/landlord-gets-3-year-jail-term-for-evicting-tenant-with-force/ |
The governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, yesterday hosted principals of secondary schools in the state at the Adetiloye Hall in Ado Ekiti. It was an emotional meeting as he wept, prostrated and rolled on the floor in appreciation of the teachers for the support they gave to him all through the period that he was impeached. He hailed the teachers for being steadfast in their loyalty to him. He said that it was their love and support that brought him to power once again. The governor was in tears at the event as the teachers applauded and broke into praise songs. For several minutes he could not speak, as his speech was interrupted by cheers and songs. But when he talked, it was a speech laden with promises to the teachers and condemnation for his predecessor. He lamented that the standard of education in the state declined under his successors, and vowed to rescue it. The Governor assured that their two- months salaries arrears and other benefits owed by the administration of immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, would be paid soon promising other benefits that would motivate them to deliver maximally to uplift the education sector. “I knew how I was able to partner with you to bring Ekiti from 35th to sixth position. I will still do the same now. Before any payment to political appointees, you will be the first to be considered. During my first term, I met a deplorable education sector, but with your support, I overcame. “But it was so bad and disheartening that rather than for ex-Governor Fayemi to face human capital development, he believed in building a N3.3 billion Governor’s Lodge for his own comfort at the expense of you workers.” This guy mean business. Veteran broadcaster Aisha Falode, who lost her son, Toba in February this year, has written an open letter to Pres. Jonathan and Nigerians on the swift response to the loss of DSP Alameiyeseigha's son in Dubai with no word or action taken in the case of Toba's murder in Dubai eight months after. See the letter after the cut.. It is with a heavy heart that I read about the death of the son of Chief Alameiyeseigha on the streets of Dubai; an incident that immediately jolted me back in time thanks to the bizarre similarities to that of my son as regards “cause of death”. My son was said by the Dubai authorities to have jumped down from a balcony, dismissing it as "suicide", same with Chief Alameiyeseigha’s son. I am saddened that this has happened despite my nationwide campaign to stop this happening AGAIN by putting all relevant government agencies on notice, in vain. For record emphasis, my son was thrown from the balcony of a 17th floor apartment in Manchester Tower in Dubai. A Saudi boy resident in Dubai confessed to the murder; he had my son’s blood on his t-shirt, he had my son’s blood on his knuckles and boasted about serving time for 25 years in prison if it comes to the worst. His murderer has a name-Faisal Aldakmary Al-Nasser. There were witnesses to this murder, they have written statements verbally and orally corroborating what the murderer said. I have put all this together to make this easy for the Nigerian government to help me get justice for my son in Dubai. I warned the Nigerian government that Nigerian youths were being killed in Dubai on a daily basis as confirmed by our embassy in Dubai. I also warned parents about the danger of Dubai. I also stated repeatedly, that if justice was not gotten for my son that another murder will happen. Indeed there have been many more after my son although not mentioned because they do not have a voice. But now, there is one so close to government that has been struck. I did not have to be a soothsayer to know this. Many more will happen until we get Justice for Toba Falode, and all those who have been murdered in cold blood in Dubai. We cannot stand by and watch our youths lives being down played over and above “collaboration and partnership” with a country that hates us with so much passion, that they are cutting down the lives of our young ones in cold blood crudely and viciously and yet we seek “partnership and collaboration” in investment with this same country. Our ambassador in the UAE, AmbassadorIbrahim Auwalu, must be called back to Nigeria to answer to every young soul that has been lost to Dubai unaccounted for due to his lack of responsibility in office. The Foreign Ministry also, must be asked questions on what they have done about Toba Falode’s case 8 months after. It took Israel less than 48 hours to act on the loss of their 3 youths. 8 months after Toba Falode’s murder, we are still waiting on the Nigerian government to give us any kind of reaction on the loss of a young life-Toba Falode in Dubai. Even after submitting every evidence, our protest, police reports corroborating the fact that my son was murdered, we still have gotten no response at all from the Nigerian government. Take a queue from Israel. And the Nigerian Government for once should start acting like a big country with so much might and power that it is in the continent and indeed in the world and go after Dubai for justice for every young soul and every Nigerian life that has been cut short in Dubai. We send our sympathy and condolences to DSP Alamieyeseigha. The family and friends of their son, we empathise with them because we have been through and are still going through it and it is nothing we wish for any parent which was our concern from the start. This, is one death too many. May it not happen again. Aisha Falode.

One of the biggest supporters and kinsman of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has declared that the president has lost the support of his political base, the South-south and the South-East owing to the failure of his government to deliver on its promises. Dokubo-Asari, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, said that it would be tough for Jonathan to win the presidential election in 2015 if he decides to run based on the poor showing of his administration. He said that his decision to speak out was for him and others who are ardent supporters of Jonathan not to be blamed for his failure in 2015. He said: “I want to start with an Ijaw proverb, which says: the eyes watched its seven children to death. Instead of advising them, it was just looking at them until they died, while the mouth talked its only child to life and success. “We have continued as Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta and South-South to support the presidency of President Goodluck Jonathan, but a time has come when silence cannot be golden. “We mainly speak out in issues that are very critical to the survival of our people, the survival of the people of the South-South and the South-East, which happens to be the political base of Goodluck Jonathan. “Jonathan is surrounded by very greedy people who are only in the Presidency to enrich themselves at the expense of Goodluck himself. “This brings us to another Kalabari proverb, which says: where there are elders, a goat cannot be allowed to deliver tied to a stick. “If we don’t talk and we continue to brush it aside, tomorrow we will be blamed and people will say: Mujahid Dokubo- Asari was around when Goodlcuk Jonathan was president and he didn’t talk. “Them I will be an accomplice and accessory after the fact…. “It is alarming because the South-South must have its uninterrupted eight years tenure, which is constitutional. “But with how things are going under Jonathan’s watch, we are afraid that we may not be able to have our eight years tenure because there will be no magic about it if it is going to be one man one vote.” Dokubo-Asari said he will continue to speak out despite the fact that he had benefitted from Jonathan, adding that one of those causing trouble for the President remains the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godsday Orubebe. He said: “I have benefited immensely from Goodluck Jonathan with my stake but benefit alone is not enough to make me to keep quiet when the period is very challenging for our people. “So, some of us are tempted to ask this question: why are all these things happening? “Why has the President allow some ministers like Godsday Orubebe to continue in government? “Everyday people die on the East-West Road. “If Orubebe is incompetent as he has shown himself to be, he should be removed. “Nobody voted for Orubebe. “And why is Orubebe so important to the President that he can’t remove him even in the face of his obvious incompetence and several allegation to corruption? “We feel very ashamed and embarrassed. “Orubebe was one of us. “He was attending meetings with us, sleeping in the ground with us, entering night bus with us and we nominated him to be appointed a minister. “We have gone to him and complained to him that we don’t like they way things are going in his ministry and told him that if the President leaves in 2015 without the completion of the East-West Road, we are finished. “And the man keeps telling us there is no money. “When IBB (former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida) was there, there was money. “When Abacha was there, there was money. “When others were there, there was money. “How come the money disappeared when Jonathan got there? “Jonathan and orubebe will account for the death in the East-West Road.” On the face-off between Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dokubo-Asari said there was no need for it. He said that no matter what Jonathan feels, he still remains a beneficiary of Obasanjo’s large heartedness. He said: “First, there was no need for Goodluck Jonathan to disagree with Olusegun Obasanjo. “I don’t like Obasanjo. “I don’t like his face. “I hate him. “But he was instrumental in bringing Goodluck Jonathan to power. “And the greedy people around Jonathan have not managed him enough to the extent that the President and people around him will allow Jonathan to disagree with Obasanjo openly “And if you check, all the people who supported Goodluck Jonathan and fought to bring him to power, have openly disagreed with him. “What was the cause of these disagreements? “These are the questions we want to put to the president. “Some people say Obasanjo is manipulating Goodluck Jonathan, that is why Jonathan is disagreeing with him and we ask: what has Goodluck Jonathan’s government achieved to show that it is a departure from other governments that have existed since 1956? “For us, nothing has changed. “It is still business as usual. “So what are the advice that Obasanjo gave to Jonathan that were so difficult for him to fulfill, that made him decide to fall out with Obasanjo? “Obasanjo was instrumental and manipulated the process that illegally removed Diepreye Alamieyeseigha as governor of Bayelsa State and installed Jonathan as governor, made him vice president, fought for him to become acting president and also fought for him to become president of Nigeria. “Apart from Obasanjo, there are so many people who supported Goodluck Jonathan, some have been pushed out by those who were not there to give him any support, while some others are trapped and they cannot talk. I have a feeling that Fulani man Buhari would have done more for Niger-delta than Jonathan has done so far Jonathan has done nothing for Niger Delta actually. It is getting more and more difficult to support him, the second niger bridge is another issue. Even his allies are denouncing him. What a shame! Follow NAIJ.COM on Twitter! |

An American computer programmer named David Booth who goes by the online pseudonym ‘Sorcha Faal’ has alleged that the Obama administration was behind the tragic collapse of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) building that left over 100 dead last month. The report, which cites Russian intelligence sources, sensationally suggests that T.B. Joshua’s refusal to prohibit foreigners from visiting The SCOAN in view of the West African Ebola crisis was the reason for the ‘sophisticated attack’ using a ‘Jericho weapon’. The outlandish account further cites the similarity between the collapse of The SCOAN building on September 12th 2014 and the collapse of Building 7 in America on September 11th 2001. A stunning new report by the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) circulating in the Kremlin today states that the Obama regime was behind the horrific 12 September attack that utilized the much feared “ Jericho Weapon” on The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria (SCOAN) that left over 40 Christian men, women and children dead. According to this report, Nigerian authorities have become “greatly alarmed” over the unprecedented rise of the Ebola virus in West African and have “strongly advised” all Christian churches to stop their communion rites over fears this practice will spread the disease. The SCOAN, however, not only refused to stop their communion rites, this report continues, but also began operations to help the victims of Ebola in other neighboring countries, which the joint US-Nigerian Army Special Operations Command (NASOC) deemed a “national security threat”. In response to SCOAN refusing to comply with its governments Ebola directives, this report says, Russian military intelligence analysts on 11 September detected a “highly secretly armed” US Navy Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft [photo bottom left] assigned to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron SIX TWO (VR-62, nicknamed the Nomads) depart from its Florida base at Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jacksonville) and land at the US Naval Expeditionary Base Camp Lemonnier located at Djibouti’s Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport, which is the primary base of operations for the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) in the Horn of Africa. After refueling/rest, this report continues, this US Navy C-130 departed Camp Lemonnier in the early hours of 12 September and flew to Lagos, Nigeria where from 11:30-11:54 [Central European Time Zone (UTC+01:00)] it circled the SCOAN compound [Photos 2nd and 3rd left] then departed after the church was destroyed in what is described as an “implosion-type” event occurring at 12:44 as evidenced by security camera video. This SVR report notes that the implosion of the SCOAN compound was “nearly identical” to the destruction of the infamous Building 7 on 11 September 2011, thus bringing to fears that the US Navy in its Nigerian attack last week used they same type of “directed weapons technology” to kill these innocent Christians. To the exact destructive power of the “Jericho Weapon” [The Battle of Jericho is a battle in the biblical Book of Joshua where “sound” was used to destroy the enemies fortress walls.] believed to have destroyed these Christians, this report says, have been best described by US Doctor-Scientist Judy D. Wood, who in compiling her evidence of a directed energy weapon being used to destroy Building 7, described its horrific ability to turn solid matter into nanoparticles. As the Obama regime has ordered an additional 3,000 of its troops to Africa to fight the Ebola virus, this report concludes, the killing of these Christians in Nigeria on 12 September clearly shows the deadly lengths this much feared government will go to in order to protect its empire. Here is the report, as written on the website http:// www.whatdoesitmean.com/: |
Ikwanga (Nassarawa State) - The minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said on Sunday that he would soon quit his position as minister to pursue a selfless aspiration as the governor of Nassarawa state. Maku said this in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, during a thanksgiving Mass held in his honour at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. “By 20th of this month, everyone in cabinet or in government who wants to contest election will resign because the time has come for us to pull out. “I have always made my interest known. By next week by the Grace of God I will sacrifice the comfort of the office of the minister. I am not tired of my office but I have to make this sacrifice. “I will sacrifice my high office in order to come back to the wilderness with my people, the people of Nassarawa State to fight for peace and justice. “There is too much blood being shed here. There is too much evil taking place here. There is too much destruction going on in this state. “The time has come for us to ask God to bring this era to an end. “I will step out, voluntarily and go into the wilderness. God will do it like he did for Moses in the Bible, cut the Red Sea and give us manna from heaven. “Being governor will not really add anything to my name I think I have made all the name I need in Nigeria. “This sacrifice is because of the difficulties we are facing today, that is why I am making this decision,” he said. He appealed to politicians not do engage in actions that would instigate violence. “I appeal to all of us here especially, we politicians, if you are for God, be for God all the way. Some people go to the throne of satan to seek power and that is why this country is suffering. “Most people belong to secret cults. Most people come to church and go to somewhere else; some sacrifice human life because they want public office. “If the spiritual atmosphere is polluted you cannot rule your nation. I have tasted the goodness of God; what He can do for you, no babalawo (voodoo doctor) can do it; no cult can do it,” he said. In a remark, the Majority Leader, Nassarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Godiya Akwashie, commended Maku for a good job done so far as the minister of information. Earlier in his sermon, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ngbor urged politicians and the rich to be sensitive to the sufferings of the poor. He said that the time was rife for Nigeria to fight tirelessly to end corruption and poverty. |
If you were online, especially on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, in the last few weeks, you would have likely witnessed the whole Linda Ikeji blog shutdown brouhaha. Linda ikeji on NdaniTV Being such a famous blog, when a site like Linda’s goes down, people go into panic mode, gossip mode, accusation mode, and all manner of thoughts and words will fill the blogosphere just to make sense of it all. Over a very short 24 – 72 hour period, even those who had never heard of Linda Ikeji or her blog’s success were forced to pay attention to the drama of Google’s shutdown of a popular blog. Add to that, scandalous claims, and back and forth write ups attacking and defending the subject of this sudden take down, and you have what we in the business of Internet marketing and web publicity often refer to as “The Perfect Storm”. You see, the end result of a brouhaha like that is usually only one major thing: instant fame locally and across the world via social media and the general web, constant site visits to the affected domain into the tens of thousands (and very possibly millions), and the eventual short and long term branding of a name some may have either forgotten, never heard of before, or were not fully focused on for months or years. With a scandal like this, which was suddenly “cleared up” within mere hours by an unexpected confession from the very person who claims to have started the attacks that led to this media circus, you gain FOR FREE, the kind of advertising some companies have to spend tens of thousands of DOLLARS on throughout a full year to get even close to the kind of instant fame that was generated here within mere hours. And for me, that threw up some red flags instantly, and prompted an immediate investigation into whether or not this could have been the publicity stunt of 2014 played out so far, rather successfully before our very eyes. Now before I continue, let me make it clear that I respect anyone, especially in this case a person like Linda Ikeji, who puts their name out there in front of millions of people around the world as legitimate internet entrepreneurs. Why? Well being one of Nigeria’s first ever globally recognized Internet entrepreneurs myself, having gotten involved in successfully creating and selling my own ebooks about online marketing since as far back as 1999, I know what it means to have your claims doubted and your story scrutinized by millions of people who don’t know you personally. So, I must make it crystal clear that this is in no way a personal attack targeted at Linda Ikeji or her friends. I was in truth one of those hundreds or thousands who publicly sent tweets to Linda showing support during a tough time. Which is why I was alarmed, concerned, deeply interested, and eventually quite frankly disappointed by the saga that the Ikeji-Aye Dee incident created. In all honesty, I felt betrayed after reading all of the “confessions” that were posted by Linda and Aye Dee. To have my trust and interest toyed with like that IS NOT something Linda should ever take lightly. In fact, I believe strongly that an open letter of apology still needs to be written to all fans and well-wishers who were tricked into investing in this scandal at all. I feel as though we were all played and all this noise was created to force millions of people to pay attention to the Linda Ikeji blog. So, What Really Happened Here? Were Nigerians scammed into believing a fabricated falling out just to get Linda’s ratings & site visits up? I realize that is a bold accusation and I do NOT make it lightly. I therefore humbly invite Linda and Aye Dee to respond if they so desire because I have some rather startling, though speculative, information to share that requires their input for things to be clarified. Inconclusive Evidence #1: After some research, I found that the Linda Ikeji blog had been losing site visits loosely estimated into the hundreds of thousands monthly over the past 13 months to the tune of close to 1 million monthly site visits lost within that time. The screen shot on the link below is from a little known Internet-based investigative site which estimates (from the outside) the number of non-unique visits to popular web sites like Linda’s blog. See the screenshot here. As you can see from the image shown above, Linda’s blog visits appear to have been on a steady decline for over a year. If that estimate is accurate to any degree, then it stands to reason that if her blog’s popularity was on a steady decline, it would only be wise to do something urgently to ensure those precious site visits are immediately restored or even dramatically increased, to block off any loss or possible loss of income as a result of less and less traffic visiting Linda’s blog. Now as I stated, this is a speculative deduction as I am not an inside source and have not performed inside forensic analysis on her blog traffic or income from her site. But any expert internet marketing analyst will tell you there is reason here to suspect some form of “foul play” as if indeed her site traffic was on a steady decline so would her income (eventually), which would likely prompt an attempt to regain any loss in popularity. So, did Linda and/or her friend Aye Dee see this constant declining trend and then plan a fictitious reason to regain the lost attention to Linda’s blog and even catapult it to greater fame than it had in the past? You have to agree this is a possibility especially in light of the “confession” by Aye Dee and a clarification of whether or not the trust of loyal readers has in any way been tampered with in an attempt to rescue a slowly dying blog. Inconclusive Evidence #2: The domain name change from the free URL lindaikeji..com as we all agree (Linda included) is something that should have taken place much sooner than it eventually did. However according to Linda’s own statements, she never bothered to make the change since most of her most obvious choices had already been taken up by cybersquatters. Well, it turns out that one of those cybersquatters was her mentor and friend Aye Dee. So then I am forced to ask the following rather obvious question… Why on earth would a mentor and friend purchase a relevant domain name years before their alleged rift and not pass that to his friend and mentee for her required needs? It simply doesn’t add up that Aye Dee purchased such a valuable domain name (lindaikeji.net) since 2011 and yet did not release it to his friend immediately upon his purchase when it made sense to do so. Now, three years or so later, that same domain name is what he offers as part of a peace offering to “help Linda get her blog back on top”. All of this barely 24 hours into the ruckus of her blog being shut down. Something is definitely out of whack here. My theory: Either Linda or Aye Dee or both decided it would be best to effect the domain change only after a scandal like what we just experienced would force the world to pay attention to Linda’s blog at the time of the change. Why wait for the latter? Well, recall that Linda’s blog was already haemorrhaging huge amounts of traffic and/or visits monthly. It would therefore be foolhardy and downright dangerous to effect a domain name change that could easily and very likely result in even greater loss of traffic. Most online users have such poor attention spans that if a domain name change is made suddenly and quietly thousands of visitors would lose interest within minutes or days if they are unable to access the blog via an old name they are used to and then are forced to find out where the new site has been moved to. Many people simply won’t bother. So, rather than risk further heavy losses in traffic, it would make sense to for example to create a situation in which all eyes would be on the old blog’s domain being shut down, and then Linda would of course be forced to find a new name and relocate in order to carry along all her old and new readers. The incidents of the past few days and weeks look too much like a set up to invoke interest in a dying blog and make a long needed change to its brand without risking any loss in traffic and thus income. Now while rejuvenating a dying site or creating interest in a changing brand are not wrong in any way, the way in which this is done is what must be carefully considered, analysed and reflected upon to ensure the people’s trust and loyalty that has helped make Linda famous has not in any way, shape or form been betrayed by the need to retain her income. I therefore invite Linda and friends to clear up any misconceptions their actions over these past days may have created. Was this scandal real or faked? If it was faked then that is a breach of trust and should never happen again as if that kind of betrayal is allowed to go on unchecked many more will soon follow possibly by the subject of this article and thousands more bloggers and site owners who would readily do anything illegal or unethical just to get attention and make a quick buck or two. If none of the actions taken were as a result of a conspiracy to defraud the public into believing a false rocus, then please take the time to prove what happened was not pre- planned. How? Show screen shots of a thriving blog’s traffic, show proof of messages that Aye Dee claims to have sent a year or so ago proving this was not a recent development that was planned to garner undeserved attention. Share any other proof that can be showcased for the public’s own scrutiny. All this is necessary to guarantee others’ actions at getting justice from sites like Google, attracting deserved attention and gaining popularity through ethical means are not lumped into a negative box alongside faked plagiarism claims and possibly faked scandals as may be the case here. For the guarantee of the belief in the integrity of Internet entrepreneurs within Nigeria especially, this issue must NOT be swept under the carpet. APC national leader Former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday called on his supporters to stay focused, shun insult and be ready to support anyone that emerges the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate. Buhari who gave the advice in Abuja while addressing his 66 support groups that came under the umbrella of Buhari Support Centre, said the party will only thrive if it remains united. “You must at all times remember that the APC is a party with several qualified people for each and all the positions that will be contested, including that of the president. “It is the primaries that will determine who will eventually represent the party and in which capacity. If I get the nomination, I will expect you to redouble your effort and commitment until we clinch the presidency. “In the event that it happens to be one of the other aspirants who win, I will expect you, as good party men, to extend to him your total support. “We are a united party and united we shall remain because our strength lies in our unity,” Buhari said. According to him, whoever engages in any of the acts will be assumed to be working for the enemy. “I must warn all my supporters, volunteers and other well-wishers within the party or even out of it, not to insult or be rude to any other aspirant or party leader on my behalf. “My supporters must not engage in any kind of behaviour or conduct that will tarnish the image of any leader or promote division and rancour within the ranks of the party. “Whoever does that should know that he or she is working for the enemy,” Buhari said. The former leader further urged his supporters to be vigilant during and after elections and avoid taking laws into their hands. “In particular, you must learn to be vigilant especially just before, during and immediately after elections, whether elections are rigged or not,” he said. According to him, this is necessary so that sponsored hoodlums do not have chance to commit illegalities and in the end, members of the group are blamed. “Not only must you not take the law into your hands no matter the level of provocation, you must be able to expose those planning to do so before the act,” he said. He said he would soon declare his presidential ambition on the platform of the APC, adding that party interest should be put above self interest. The Director-General of the Centre, Umar Dembo, said it was “a department within the Buhari Campaign Organisation where all activities of the groups would be coordinated”. Also speaking, former President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Daniel Onje, urged members of the centre to eschew campaign of anarchy. “I am a Christian and I refuse to believe in a campaign of anarchy. Contrary to insinuations, Buhari is a not a religious bigot. “The appellation is the handiwork of those who want to continue to keep Nigeria down and divided. www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/09/30/support-who-emerges-apc-president-buhari-advises-supporters/ |

Years ago, I made one of the greatest mistakes of my life: I organised a book launch for my first book, The Abyssinian Boy, which I wrote, after living and suffering in India and invited politicians. This was out of greed and also, because I thought I had access to them. It was close to election time; so I wanted to take advantage of that opportunity. It backfired. One of the politicians who pledged millions at my book launch was Sir Sylvester N Anyanwu, who was elected Senator for the Imo North (Okigwe) constituency of Imo State. I thought my life would change, so I completely relied on these politicians who came to my launch and said glowing things about how I am the future of tomorrow and things like that. I was told I should come and pick my cheque later. One year later, I was still calling Senator Anyanwu and made frequent visits to Abuja. He knows how to ignore calls. And he knows how to say this on the phone, “Yes, Onyeka, what is the problem? Call my PA.” I tried and I got tired. From Lagos to Abuja, I would go. I tried. And I never got to see him. Even when I had surgery in India and told him, he sounded very sympathetic, but that was where it ended. I even called him from the hospital in India. Finally, after one certain Christmas celebration, in that dusty weather, I went with a cousin of mine to visit The King. We begged the gate man, an Hausa guy and he told us that the Senator was not around. One of his mobile police men told us that he was around. So, we waited. We waited at the gate for about three hours. Now, the Senator’s convoy was driving out. He saw me, standing helpless there and stopped his car. I was happy. He said, “Nna, kedu?” I said, “Adi m nma, sir.” Then he took me inside his house. I saw bags of rice with PDP written on it and umbrella too, with multiple colours. Lots of bags of rice. Then, the Senator said something profound to my young ear: “Nna, the way you are going about this is not right. You know that not every promise made, has to be fulfilled.” I was 22 years old. That stung me in the ears. I went home, downcast, dampened and completely demoralised. But he was right, NOT EVERY PROMISE MADE HAS TO BE FULFILLED. I agree with him. After his case, I tried not to give up. Then, Governor Ikedi Ohakim and his wife promised me lots of things too. They may have forgotten, but one of the emails Ohakim sent to me on Friday, October 10, 2010, clearly states: “Nna, please discuss with Okey Bakassi.” It was nice of him, really, to email me. A sitting governor was emailing me! How thoughtful! I was blown away. He replied all my emails, actually. And made sure I met Okey Bakassi. Me and Okey Bakassi met in his hotel in Lagos. We talked and talked. He didn’t meet me to give me the money the Governor had promised me. He met me to talk about how to get the money. I was confused. And then he suggested I go through my uncle who was the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and get the money. That the money had been approved. I was confused again. I gave up, finally. And focused on my writing and my life. A year later, I came in contact with Rochas Okorocha. We kept talking on the phone and I had brought in a film crew from The Netherlands to make a documentary on him and the Rochas Okorocha Foundation. I spoke with his daughter several times, too. Once the film crew arrived Owerri, which Rochas himself told me on the phone to get to Owerri town and call him, me and my film crew waited in Owerri the whole day and Rochas did not pick my calls or return my messages. I went home in shame and cried my eyes out. But I did not die. Few months later, he became the Governor of Imo State and stopped answering his calls himself. His daughter too became a big girl and would never answer me politely. I just moved on. In December of 2013, I travelled to my village. It’s also in Imo State. As soon as I got there that evening, I cried. My driver saw me cry. Yes, I wept. Tears filled my eyes. My parents were just smiling, but they knew it got to me. My cousins were smiling and laughing, because it was good to see again. But I was crying, because the roads leading to my house were messed up. The potholes were amazing. And the driver found it hard reversing. I left my village on time, back to Owerri town, where I had to lodge in a cheap guesthouse. It was in that cheap guesthouse that my thoughts on security in Owerri changed. Anyone could walk into my room. Once you came and said you were looking for Onyeka, the receptionist would point you to my room. Few months later, a friend of mine, Noel Tochukwu, who had gone there to do his Imo’s Got Talent, was shot in his room. The last time we chatted, when I was back in Paris, as he was transiting through Paris, back to Nigeria, I told him not to go there. He was passionate about what he was doing. He was also the greatest supporter and defender of Rochas Okorocha that I knew. He would engage people on Facebook and tell them how his Rochas was doing. It was in his Rochas Okorocha’s town that he was shot in his own hotel room! And the media said: “Rochas Okorocha condemns the brutal murder of Noel Tochukwu.” The story ends. Now, I don’t know where Senator SN Anyanwu is. Maybe he’s dead? I don’t know, but he has made pledges and promises to so many young people in Imo State, who believed him and depended on his promises. Their hopes have been dashed to the floor. One of them is an orphan who was in Madonna Science School. This young man was shot in his dormitory by armed robbers. One of his legs is bad. He needed surgeries to fix it. He didn’t have money; doesn’t have parents to see him through university, so the Good Samaritan, Senator Anyanwu, promised him heaven and earth. He never did one. This young man has been living a tough life. He may not get over this. But I just hope Senator Anyanwu will stay alive and see what we all become. It’s a matter of time. Are we not the leaders oftomorrow? Did they not tell us the youths that we are the bomb? What happens when a bomb explodes? Today, Ikedi Ohakim wants to be reelected the Governor of Imo State. Rochas Okorocha wants to remain in power. He has tasted it. It tastes real good. He has billboards all over the capital city that ‘tell’ us that he is working. There are constructions happening everywhere in Owerri town, that never get completed, with those tiny roads and the villages still don’t have electricity and roads. We bought lots of fuel in Christmas to generate light. There is no life in Imo State; you just have to chill from one beer parlour to another and you are not even sure you will get home alive. Boys are shooting guns rampantly. Imo State University students are still considered the most backward anywhere in the world. Go on the internet and see what they do. This has nothing to do with over-generalisation. They are not worth your stress. They don’t know where they are going to. They are clueless. Always looking for who to direct them, because they are being ruled by clueless set of people. In short, Rochas Okorocha has no vision. He’s just a propagandist. In the small state of Puebla in Mexico where I live right now, life is smooth. And I get tired of the good things that happen to me sometimes. Why did I run to Mexico? Because the Mexicans saw what I was doing and offered me a better life. And I have always encouraged young people to leave Nigeria. Our parents have failed us, economically and politically. Our parents have allowed people like Rochas and Ohakim assume power. It’s funny, but my writing won’t do anything, so I am actually going to start a grass-root campaign, show young people how beautiful my life is outside Nigeria, give them reasons why they should boycott the next election; why they should not allow their aged parents waste their time in voting these men who don’t keep to promises. It’s a pity, but I will spend money to bring brouhaha amidst the young people who have decided to sell their souls to the devils. These politicians are your friends only when they need you to vote for them. Should I have banked on the promises of these retards, I would be wasting in Nigeria, I would have gone into drugs to calm my depression; I would have loved cultism so much, because someone would offer me a gun to shoot at sight. I personally know many young people whose failures should be blamed on Nigerian politicians. Why would I travel thousands of miles to live and teach in Mexico if I was encouraged by our lying political class? Would we ever forgive Rochas Okorocha for lying to Noel Tochukwu and leading him to his death and pretending that nothing ever happened? Only when we boycott the elections, will they know that the youths are the future! Onyeka Nwelue is award-winning author of The Abyssinian Boy (DADA Books, 2009) and Burnt (Hattus, 2014). Hello everyone, Greetings! I trust we are all doing fine. Just a quick one please: Heard that an Ebola case has been confirmed in a hospital in Lagos, Nigerian, through a Liberian who came into Nigeria. Anyway, whether true or false, we all need to be aware of the necessary preventive measures to take in reducing or stopping the spread of this deadly virus in our precious country. I want us to know that staying away from that hospital will not in any way, stop it's spread among the people. Whoever brought the virus into Nigeria, obviously sat in the plane with other Nigerians, and also passed through airport officials. Liberians basically greet by hand shaking and huggs, so you can't tell how many people he/she must have greeted while coming into Lagos. Therefore, the following are the preventive measures we need to take, rather than avoiding the 'said' hospital: - Please have a personal hand sanitizer and use it as frequent as possible (like every 30 minutes). - Do not buy and eat any fruit directly without washing it first very well. - For now, you might want to stay away from eating any meat that you do not know it's source, most especially our lovely 'Suya'. - Also, try not to put your hands into your mouth without using a sanitizer first ( for those of us that bite our fingers a lot, we need to consciously stop for now). - Try and avoid unnecessary hand shaking for now, or immediately after, use your sanitizer. - Unlike HIV, Ebola can be spread through contact with body sweat or saliva, so take caution when you sit in the 'danfo' buses in Lagos or when you want to kiss. - Avoid eating any meat from apes e.g monkeys and its families. - Generally, avoid having contacts with body fluid - Bathe as often as you can - Prepare your meats by yourself, if possible - Lastly, get more information about Ebola, it's free on google I hope I have been able to help, and stop the unnecessary panic by avoiding a particular hospital. Please stay safe and healthy!!!!! |
What happens when a country renders itself inimical to creativity? Creativity flees its shores with the swiftness of a dream fading away in morning light. This is what has happened in Nigeria. There is no electricity, so the writers cannot write. There are no good roads, so musicians cannot transport state-of-the-art musical equipment across state borders. The average Nigerian does not appreciate good, lyrically astute music; they prefer club-bangers with little or no lyrical content. Therefore good musicians are exporting themselves and their craft to European and American countries where they will be appreciated. Sculptors and painters are suffering from lack of patronisation. They are asked, "So you want to feed your wife and three kids with just painting?" on a daily basis, and are generally so frustrated that their creativity starts to erode. Weighty examples abound. Nigerian author Jude Dibia, whose first novel Walking with Shadows, is about a homosexual man who marries a woman and lives in fear with his wife and daughter, once said: "Nigeria is sending away all her cultural stars." When asked if he would relocate, he feels he is responsible for a lot of people right now. If things get harder, he might relocate. There is Seun Kuti. He's the son of Afro-beat legend Fela Kuti, and an amazing musician in his own right. His smash hit IMF has generated considerable buzz in the European music community. He is always worried about the situation of the country. He worries that some Nigerians may never have the tasteful experiences that make living worthwhile, because a huge majority of the people are manacled by poverty. Every time he is in Nigeria, he's either leading a protest against the execrable government or promoting his music. Sadly, however, despite the sizeable traction he has gained in Europe, Seun Kuti is not a huge star in Nigeria. His concerts all over the world attract thousands of people, but last time he had one in Lagos, at the African Shrine, there were not even 50 people and they were scattered scantily in the large hall like randomly dispersed seeds. The depressing turnout scarred him irredeemably. He's currently travelling round the world promoting his new album. A popular adage goes, "A prophet has no honour in his land." Nigerians have refused to notice Seun Kuti's music. It is unarguable that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is one of the finest writers in the world at the moment. If she lived in Nigeria, she may not have had electricity to write, she may not have had an agent who believed in her and pitched her to the best publishing houses in the world. Nnedi Okoroafor is another renowned Nigerian writer, and her novel Akata Witch received worldwide acclaim. Chimamanda and Nnedi fled to a land where opportunities abound, where their writings would be appreciated, where no one would ask them, "You mean you are just a writer and nothing else?" It has become evident that the most influential Nigerian writers at the moment do not live in Nigeria. Writers in Nigeria are mostly a starving lot. Nigerians do not buy books anymore, they rarely turn up for book signings, and they look down on writing as a craft without reward. Some Nigerian writers who have extensively examined the situation have suddenly become realistic, concluding that patriotism isn't about dying in penury. They find the cheapest available flight tickets and leave, never to come back, even if the country burns. { Maybe if she lived in Nigeria, Asa’s family and friends would have convinced her that music is not a woman’s business, that she should get a degree, find herself a loving husband and birth herself some nice kids. sa is an exceedingly talented songstress whose albums have received worldwide critical acclaim and financial success. Her music only started gaining notice in Nigeria after she won several awards in Europe. Even now, she isn't as big a star in Nigeria as she is in France. Maybe if she lived in Nigeria, her family and friends would have convinced her that music is not a woman's business, that she should get a degree, find herself a loving husband and birth herself some nice kids. That is how Nigerians think. They discourage one another because they want everybody to be comfortable with mediocrity; nobody should be allowed to rise above the status quo. Asa lives in Paris; she is not moving to Nigeria anytime soon. On the streets of Amsterdam, New York, Berlin, London, Brussels and other huge, artistic cities, live Nigerian cultural stars. They have left Nigeria and return as tourists, lodging in hotels for weeks and desperately waiting to leave Nigeria immediately. It is no one's fault that they have left. Some pundits think they are stupid, that they can't stay and fix the society. But why should they stay, when those who have tried to stay end up depressed? Everything is different in Nigeria. The transportation system in Lagos, Nigeria's most developed state, is shambolic at best and disastrous at worst. Yellow buses, popularly known as Danfo, line the roads, operating without bus stops. They rarely stop, even to drop passengers; the best one can get is that they slow down a little so the passenger can jump down. A person wanting to enter the bus usually has to sprint lightly beside the slowly moving bus, grip one edge of the open door, and pull himself into the bus; all of this while the bus is in motion! The railway network only exists in tourism videos and government websites. Compare this to efficient metro system in Marseille, France, and it becomes clear why Nigeria is intolerable for returning artists. Also, people have a different mentality. Once someone deviates from the "Go to School – Get a Job – Get a Family" model, he is seen as a delusional fool who is certain to fail and is discouraged at every turn. How is one supposed to make art under such conditions? The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is a beacon of hope in the sad situation that is Nigerian arts and culture. However, there is still an inherent inferiority complex that has crippled its growth. Nigerians do not wholeheartedly support Nollywood, insisting that it will always remain inferior to Hollywood. Kunle Afolayan, prominent Nigerian filmmaker, responsible for huge box office successes like Figurine and Phone Swap, has spoken of how Nigeria has made it very difficult for him to continue to make good movies, and that he may have to relocate. This is how Nigeria chases away its gems. The Nigerian government and the Nigerian people need to start taking these developments a little more seriously so that Nigeria can reap the full, immeasurable rewards of the stars of tomorrow. The time for change is now. Onyeka Nwelue , a novelist and poet who has lived in both Nigeria and India, writes about how cultural pessimism, poor infrastructure and an all-round lack of opportunities forced some of the best-known Nigerian artists to migrate. India would do well to learn a lesson from this story. ONYEKA NWELUE 5th Jul 2014 http://www.sunday-guardian.com/artbeat/the-nigerian-exodus-how-a-country-chased-away-its-premier-artists |
The All Progressives Congress has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of bribing the members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly with $300,000 each to impeach the former Governor, Alhaji Murtala Nyako. The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, levelled the accusation in Abuja on Wednesday at a news conference. Odigie-Oyegun, a former governor of Edo State, said, “what was Nyako impeached for? Offences he allegedly committed five years ago. Those offences were not impeachable when he was in the PDP. But the moment he decamped to the APC, they became impeachable.” “The entire ‘impeachment’ of Governor Nyako is so fraught with irregularities, bias, judicial contradictions and in violation of every procedural and constitutional provisions that it is the worst manifestation of impunity. We intend to mount an immediate and rigorous challenge to this gross injustice to the party and people of Adamawa State.” Odigie-Oyegun said the Jonathan administration had also moved money into Nasarawa and Edo States to induce the lawmakers to impeach and remove Governors Umaru Al-Makura and Adams Oshiomhole respectively. He said: “In Adamawa, each member of the State House of Assembly was allegedly given $300,000 as part payment to impeach Gov. Nyako; some N500 million has allegedly been moved to Nasarawa to induce the state’s lawmakers to impeach Gov. Al-Makura, and in Edo, each lawmaker has allegedly been offered N75 million to impeach Gov. Adams Oshiomhole.” Odigie-Oyegun said such impunities by the President has continued unabated with the use of state machineries for the oppression of the opposition. He said: “In Borno, under the guise of ensuring security, the Maiduguri Airport has been closed for several weeks, hence the Borno Governor and the people of the state, including the pilgrims heading to lesser Hajj, have been forced to travel by road to Kano to board their flights. “However, the reason for shutting the airport has suddenly vanished as the private plane bearing former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff was allowed to land at the airport on Monday, the same day the Governor had to travel by road to Kano to see his brother who was involved in an accident on the same road!” “Obviously, President Jonathan is fast turning Nigeria into George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where some animals are more equal than the others. Welcome to Nigeria of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, where the only people who are deemed to be true Nigerians are those under the umbrella of the PDP, where the only people worth protecting are PDP members!” http://www.trendsofnigeria.com/exposed-how-much-each-adamawa-lawmaker-received-from-jonathan-for-impeaching-nyako/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=kk&utm_source=twitterfeed |

Well I am sure you can tell who the stupid bird is from the post’s title because I might not mention his name. This post might contain errors, please bear with me I wasn’t in the right frame of mind when I was writing. Thank you in anticipation. I hardly see the Super Eagles dominate in big games like this and I don’t care what the stats of other football writers or football bodies read but Nigeria bullied France in their 2nd round game of the on going World Cup. Nigeria matched the French side as a matter of fact scratch that, the Super Eagles dominated Le Bleus and though they didn’t get the desired result I can say I am proud of Stephen Keshi’s boys. You know me now, I support England but I have been a Keshi fan all my life. Truth be told I will be a fan of any member of the Super Eagles squad of 1994 that coaches the national team. I loved the Eagles approach to the game and I had my objections on Yobo’s inclusion in the team but I was like hey if Mikel can make the team then why should Yobo be left out. I always have a soft spot for at least two players in any team I watch or support and going into this World Cup my favourite Super Eagles’ players were Ogenyi Onazi and Emmanuel Emenike even though I still hold a grudge with Keshi for not taking Nosa Igiebor to the World Cup (like say Keshi sabi me, lol). Without mincing words Onazi bossed the midfield during the short time he spent on the pitch and I wondered what the hype about French players’ Blaise Matuidi and Paul Pogba’s was all about. I will not dwell on the game’s stats or what happened I am just using this platform to praise the 10 players and separate them from one stupid boy. All four games Nigeria played at this World Cup had this clown in the starting line up and he had no impact whatsoever. He was supposed to be our star man for crying out loud but was anonymous in all four games well except the game against Bosnia where he picked up a yellow card and after that nothing else. Well this is my note on today’s game, the French team came with a game plan which was take out Nigeria’s major threat who was Onazi and when I say take out I mean force him out by hurting him till he wouldn’t be able to carry on with the game. Now this is where I blame Yobo the captain of the Super Eagles and Stephen Keshi too. Yobo should have at least being in the face of the referee when Matuidi stamped on Onazi and Keshi should have let his presence be felt by cornering the fourth official when all the French scheme was going on. I think the Eagles were too soft on the day but I don’t blame them, they weren’t set up to play dirty. The moment Onazi was taken off due to injury, the world knew he was the most important player in the Nigerian team. The French plotted Onazi’s exit really well, it was like a scene in a mafia movie. The approach the French side adopted was similar to the one the Italians used against the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup in USA. The Azzuris ensured our danger men (Emmanuel Amunike and Daniel Amokachi) didn’t complete the game by hacking them at will leading to be substituted. Nigeria eventually lost that game to Italy 2-1 with Roberto Baggio’s brace canceling out Emmanuel Amunike’s 7th minute goal (hope I got that right). There’s nothing anybody can tell me, the French planned Onazi’s exit and it worked for them. I am proud of the 10 Super Eagles initially employed to execute the game against France today and if not for that stupid bird, I am sure we would have made it through to the quarter finals. Oh yea Nigeria lost to France 2-0 today just in case you didn’t know. Pogba (after having a quiet game) scored the 1st for the French and a Yobo own goal wrapped up the game. Well done Super Eagles, even though I am not always there I am so proud of you. Congrats to Joseph Yobo on hitting the big 100 in terms of international caps (First Nigerian to play international 100games) though it’s reported he’s quitting the National team (Thank God). Not a good way to sign off. I also hear Keshi resigned (I hope this isn’t true oooo). Thanks guys for your time. Stay BLESSED !!! http:///w50XE6zEbv |
