A National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member, Michael Otobor, is in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly trying to traffic 84 wraps of cocaine worth over N2 million.

Mr. Otobor, a serving corp member with the Keffi local government area of Nassarawa state was last week arrested in a taxi on his way to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the anti-narcotics agency based on a tip-off.

The 27 year old Mr. Otobor is from Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State, and is a graduate of Accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic Bida in Niger state.

He said he was paid the sum of N300, 000 as initial payment to traffic the cocaine weighing 1.150kg to Spain in Europe. “I was lured into this business by some of my friends,” Mr. Otobor said, in tears. “Initially, I did not want to do it because I know the consequence of trafficking in hard drugs. My friends kept telling me that they know the officials at the airport and I will not be caught but I still refused. Now look at me, I don’t know how I got myself into this mess.”

Mr. Otobor said he intended to use the money from the cocaine peddling deal to start a farm in Kwara state. “Like I told you, I did not want to go into this drug peddling deal,” he said. “But my sponsors checked me into three exquisite hotels in six days. I was given a treat, but I did not know that they were manipulating me. They gave me N300, 000 and promised to give me more money if I succeeded in trafficking the drugs. I thought of what to do with the money and then I decided that I have been thinking of starting a mechanised farm in Kwara state where I can plant, corn, melon and cassava. I regret yielding to these people.”

The Lagos state commander of the NDLEA, Wesley Midala, however revealed that Mr. Otobor could have died considering the large quantity of the cocaine he had swallowed. “Mr. Otobor vomited seven wraps and excreted seventy seven wraps of cocaine weighing 1.150kilogrammes. He is lucky to be alive as this hard drug would have destroyed his intestine and he would have died in the process. We are still interrogating him and as soon as we are through with our investigation, he will be charged to court. I will advice youth to be patient in life. They should not seek illegal means to actualize their dreams as the law is no respecter of persons or status.” Mr. Midala said.

I'll advise u book a date ASAP cos there will always be a rush at the US embassy during December.B4 that,do u hv the scanned copy of ur I-20 cos u need the infos like SEVIS ID as well as the school address to book an appointment.hope this is helpful.

U will spend $200 (Sevis),$30 - $70 application fee depending on school, like 27K for US visa application and ofcourse some miscelleanous expenses sha. so sum it up urself my guy n if u r ready drop ur YIM so we can chat

Oyewunmi (Mrs.), today ordered the police to investigate the educational certificates of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko, and report to the court as soon as possible.
The order arose from the criminal complaint brought before the court against Abdullahi Dikko Inde by Olajide Oyewole Ibrahim and activist lawyer, Festus Keyamo . Saharareporters broke the story on 2 September 2009 about an affidavit sworn to by Olajide at the Lagos High Court that the new Customs boss has been posing and rising professionally on the strength of forged educational credentials.

While Alhaji Dikko--who is a close relative of PDP-installed president, Umaru Yar'Adua and his wife, Turai--has not bothered to deny the story, he is known to have taken desperate measures to suppress the scandal, including the attempted confiscation and burning of an entire edition of a newspaper in Abuja.

Similarly, there are suspicions he may be implicated in the assassination of an editor at The Guardian, Bayo Ohu, on September 20. He was said to have been investigating the same story when he was killed in his home. His killers took nothing but his laptop computer and mobile phone. Over a month after the killing, the police claim to have no suspects.

It will be interesting to see if the same police can execute Magistrate Oyewunmi's order with professional honour and with despatch. Last month, it took Saharareporters only hours to cross-check some of Dikko’s claims to graduate study.

During our investigation, we could find no evidence of a "University of Dimitrov Apostle Tshenov, Suishtov – Bulgaria," which he claims in his curriculum vitae, although there is a ". A. Tsenov Academy of Economics.” It took months to confirm if Dikko may have studied at the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics a school he simply forgot, in his CV, what it is called.

And if the police can quickly complete their investigation and report promptly to Magistrate Oyewunmi, it would be even more interesting to see, in view of the political connections of the Customs boss, whether it will see the light of day since press reports already claimed a highly powered but secretive panel had already "cleared" Mr.Dikko.

Alhaji Dikko was appointed Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs last July.

You are also right my mum is filling for me would change my status some month after i get there. but guys i saw a lot of denials because of age and so many factors we treated on Nairaland so if you have anybody that wants to travel with a student visa should read all the post here and i think the person is 90% good for the embassy, the only 10% is for confidence to face the consular.

But the amount of years on my passport was 2, i asked the young lady there and she said they dont give 5 years like that. you have to come back for renewal. How true is that ?

Banks should stop the hidden charges agenda. The other day I went to use an Intercontinental ATM with my GTB card and I was charged 300 naira and I'm like i thought it was 100 naira. Also why would a bank charge me for using its very own debit card on its own ATM?
