CrimeSchool Principal Impregnates Under-aged Primary School Pupils by nethacker(op): 10:56pm On Mar 22, 2011
As the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) exposed a teacher and a headmaster who took teaching to their bedrooms, impregnating several pupils, another sad event occurred last week, when a school principal impregnated an under-aged primary school pupil.

The principal, Mr Maxwel Njome, popularly known as “Mr.Chemical’’ was a teacher at Government Junior Secondary School, Njoboliyo in Yola-South local government area before he was promoted to the rank of principal and posted to Farang Government Junior Secondary School in Fufore Local Government Area.

The 15-year-old girl (name withheld) whom the principal was alleged to have seduced and impregnated was in Njoboli primary school the former school he was teaching before he was posted to Farang Junior Secondary School.

Sunday Trust gathered that the principal was said to have been in contact with the girl in Njoboli and lured her to follow him to Farang without the consent of her parents.

The under-aged pupil had since given birth to a baby boy, while Mr Maxwel Njome was dragged to court. What appeared to be confusing some of their parents was how and why the girl’s stay with her principal was not reported to the education officials by her parents.

“The girl usually visits the teacher in full view of other pupils and the relationship was seem as normal,” said sources within the school.

In a similar development, the other accused school head- teacher was brought before some elders of the area after he was spotted with the under-aged pupil in his house. The girl allegedly revealed the relationship after she was beaten up by her parents following the allegations.

It was gathered that the teacher also confessed to his ‘wrong doings’ but the issue remained the school’s top secret.

Sources further revealed that a parents’ meeting was once called where the scandal was exposed. It was reported that the concerned principal attempted to resolve the issue amicably.

“He only brought back the girl with one bag of corn and few naira notes to bribe and insult us,’’ said one of the relatives.

“We want the matter to be resolved in court so that these teachers are punished. It has now become clear that our children are not safe,” said one of the parents.

The girl, 15, had earlier told her parents that she was seduced by the teacher, who once slept beside her, on a lonely night, when she was in her weakest moments.

According to her, Mr Chemical was threatening her with beating and starvation whenever she refused his sexual advances or threatened to spill the bean. The affair had been on for months.

Looking very frail and sick, the daughter of a local farmer who cannot be named, explained that violation of her right, started months ago, when the teacher ordered her to start fanning him. She fell asleep in the process and woke up to find that she had been sexually abused.

She told her parents that, “I woke up and felt very weak. It was the principal who deflowered me. Nobody had ever slept with me except him. I can’t count the number of times he had had sex with me. He said that if I told anybody, he would deal with me.”

But the parents will not let the matter go like that…

When the case came-up for mentioning, at the Fufore Upper Area Court the accused person pleaded guilty for impregnating the under aged girl who gave birth for him, but denied forcing and preventing her continuing her education.

Counsel to the accused person Barr. P. Elisha had applied for bail while counsel to the complainant A. A. Jatau had asked the court to refuse the bail application, but after heated augments from both parties the presiding judge, Chief, Magistrate Husseini Musa Garba granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety in the same amount and adjourned the case to March 30,for hearing.

School sex scandals on the increase

The Njome Chemical’s case, has again opened a can of worms on other allegedly ‘known’ sex scandals between teachers and pupils in the state, as only recently the state executive chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Dr Salihu Bakari Girei, exposed a teacher and a headmaster who took teaching to their bedrooms and impregnating several pupils.

Dr Salihu Bakari, who lamented the ugly incident, maintained that if the teachers are found guilty, they will be made to face the 1964 Education law which criminalizes this kind of act and provides that any teacher found wanting can no longer be trusted with pupils and therefore, cannot continue with his profession in addition to appropriate punitive measures.

Bakari, however, promised to punish those involved, and prosecute all cases of sexual harassments of pupils by teachers in schools across the state. He admitted that there are over 90 per cent of such unreported cases, adding that most of the pupils go through the trauma without the relevant agencies ever knowing.

i dont even know where to start from and what to say really, i dnt know the condition of things abroad as i havent bn there and do not have friends studying there either, but its really a sorry and sad case here

over here, the lecturers particularly want you to fail, they take so much delight in you failing , they even tell it to your face point blank and go extra mile to do dat e.g by not coming to class, giving u some photocopied rubbish to read, giving you some crazy assignments out of your syllabus, 'releasing' more handouts like a week or few days to exam, imagine, a lecturer who hasnt bn to class in like a month, comes to class one day (say 30 minutes to the end of class) takes attendance and says thats 10marks, incompetent lecturers who do not even know wht they are saying , lecturers who hate to be challenged , greedy lecturers who wld encourage students to pat N2500 to pass a course, they ll make the course so difficult just so u ll cme and pay,
i read maths nd computer sc frm fut minna, thankgod for the math part tho cos all the cpt sc lecturers there are whack, they know nothin, i realised that on tym and squarely faced my mathematics jeje ( i havent seen my final year second semester result, but my cgpa as of first semester 500l was 3.4)

you know its painful when you watch your ability squashed and you can do nothing bout it, when u know u could have better grades if not for some wicked lecturers who have made the system rot, when you know you are better than the not-so-smart person next to you who has bought his 2.1 certificate and walks freely abt with his head high i could go on and on , i for one know very well that if i had studied in a foreign school i would have been better off work or no work, over here, absolutely nothing works

ol in what country abroad? In Canada, you cant rewrite any exam, you fail, you fail. Wait till next year or semester to repeat the course

Canadians spend up to 8 or more just to get common undergraduate degree. .Its not only in Nigeria.

If your cumulative average is below 60% at the end of the year. You will be kicked out of school. They dont even care if your international
I know many Nigerians that have been kicked out of school here in Canada
same here in US, u cant fall below 60% and graduate lailai, u can nvr rewrite d exam dat same semester, u hv to rewrite it during the session dat it will be offered.not all senior level courses r offered in spring or fall so if u fail a course in fall n its only offered in fall,u wil hv to re-register n rewrite it d following fall. mind u here in US too, some pple spend 8semesters to get an ordinary associate  grin grin

Seems some people are saying one of the reason quality is better is because of the fees?

do students have to pay higher fees in nigerian universities before Lecturers start respecting their students or changing their dictatorial style of teaching?

What does higher fees have to do with cleaning the university environment, some schools in Nigeria have dirty dustbin like environment! What does it take the VC/Lecturers etc to actually put a system in place? they all keep shouting 'underfunding'

When will professors start actually contributing to the economy? all the prof dr engineers in the universities should develop something!

What does it take for the VC/Lecturers etc to have a meeting with companies so they can update the curriculum to have real life impact when student leave uni

You don't really need money for these!!! its common sense.
@ d bolded:what do u expect frm a VC who only cares about his pockets n bank accounts? school infrastructure is nvr on their mind.their children r here in US so they care less.this is wat u get from incompetent idiots who hv no regards for quality education.

I think that in abroad many, if not most, of the professors focus more on application; in Nigeria, on the other hand, many professors focus excessively on theory. I think application is harder than theory.
to buttress ur point, in calculus III(for those of us in engineering @ ugrad level), we were taught 3D planes and many related stuffs.i took it for granted and postponed reading more about it till another day.Only for me to get to my programming class and discovered that without d extensive knowledge of 3D planes, which was taught a day earlier in calc 3,i won't b able to cope, all the classes r inter-related and lecturers r ever ready to put u thru in times of difficulty. they r not like 9ja lecturers dat needs sacrifice b4 they r available.  grin grin

I think both have there strength and weakeness, but its not easy to study abroad if you have to work along otherwise it could be fun!

The course contents are more intense and demanding than we have in Nigeria. In Nigeria assignment could be copied from classmates thats not an option. By the time I finished my first quarter of the academic year I realised that BSc thesis is not worth calling one- plagiarism at its best (but we did not know better). we have classes, labs, cases studies, report writing and examination all which contribute to your final grade- if you miss one you are not getting your final grade even if it carries to point.

"In the Nigerian system, the average professor has an old-school attitude: he stands at the front of the class and says, 'This is the truth - swallow it. Studying outside Nigeria offers a more discussion-based approach teaching. Everyone's on first-name terms too, which makes it easier to establish an academic relationship with the professors". Its possible to meet you professor at friday after-work at the student pub.

The student life is also great outside Nigeria, party till infinity with no cult threats.
on point,

stop disseminating your myopic and dangerous piece of information online. this is highly irresponsible on your part. what percentage of people can actually afford to study abroad ? are you saying that 40 million nigerians should jump ship and go study abroad ? what society will absorb 40 million nigerians ? why are you creating an inferiority complex int hose who choose to study in nigeria ? this is an abhorrent post.

bruv i guess everyone is different. when i was in nigeria, it was all about cramming and regurgitation. this is not my forte. i like to be able to grasp the basic concept behind every topic so that basically simplifies your life. the difference between cramming down a 200 page textbook and skirting casually through a 200 page textbook is understanding the concept of that textbook. this is what makes education easier abroad. no one expects you to quote them verbatim before you get an A
cramming is jst one part out of all the factors considered.

studying abroad is way easier. in nigeria you basically have to regurgitate exactly what the prof gave to you. this is not an easy feat. not everyone is adept at cramming. abroad its all about your critical thinking skills. if your critical thinking faculty is up to par, you will find out that most of the time you dont even have to read before you go to an exam (abroad)

Well abroad you deal with study alone, infact you can get loans for school. In Nigeria, you deal with cultism, PHCN, strikes, evil lecturers and inadequate facilities. You need tough skin to succeed. Plus you have AC or heater in your classrooms, most Nigeria schools have no windows in their hostels. Massive fearless rats and mosquitoes thrive all day.
Its not a curriculum issue, it the other non-curricular issue which makes it tough.

Was at a branch of Union bank last November to pay a cheque in and was told that network was down. What the bleep !!! , , a banks network is down, seems it was a norm from the way the cashier responded  angry  , later went to PHB later in the day, the bank looked like a shack. Considering the fact that I work for a bank in UK, then I realized that Nigeria is like 100 years behind in technology. I Was also Stanbic IBTC the following day, what a relief, that looked like a proper bank except the customer service officer there was feeling like she was the Queen of England,  cool
@bolded,wat do u expect, she is a banker  grin grin

Don Umeh:
Can't believe the changes i saw in most union bank branchs recently: young and fresh graduates as staff, prompt customer service and better banking environment, even their eproducts are working better than what i got in GTB. I even do most of my banking transactions in my office courtesy of their unionmobile product. Infact quite unlike Union bank i used to know, i was treated like a king.
They even paid me a visit in my office all in the name of customer relationship management.
Honestly i was impressed and i would like to continue banking with them.
What u experienced is marketing strategy.all banks had done so in the past.wait until they hit the expected customer base then u'll sing a new song  grin grin
