Who else thinks this military train is unnecessary except if at an altitude so high that diesel and petrol engines don't work? *my hand is up*
moving such a large military convoy, which will also require extra special security,in America traffic congested roads.wont be wise, also you may have to face the wrath of America commuters, who you will inconvenience.also its safe, faster and cheaper, remember some of the armoured vehicles are armoured and weigh more than 10 ton.this is a recent accident involving four US army Strykers in Lithuania that managed to hit one another during a highway movement, resulting in the light injuring of 13 soldiers.just imagine if that Stryker was to hit a civilian car!

US military: 4 US Special forces soldiers wounded in Somalia, treated in Kenya

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Four U.S. service members who were wounded in an extremist attack in Somalia that killed one special operations soldier have been treated and discharged, the U.S. military said Saturday.

A U.S. Africa Command statement said the four were in the care of the U.S. Embassy medical team in neighboring Kenya. They were awaiting transport “for additional medical evaluation.”

The Pentagon said Staff Sgt. Alexander W. Conrad, 26, of Chandler, Arizona, died Friday of injuries sustained from what it called enemy indirect fire. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The names of those wounded were not released.

This was the first public announcement of a U.S. military combat death in Africa since four U.S. service members were killed in a militant ambush in the West African nation of Niger in October.

Friday’s attack in Jubaland is likely to put renewed scrutiny on America’s counterterror operations in Africa.

U.S. troops with Somali and Kenyan forces came under mortar and small-arms fire and one “partner force member” also was wounded in the attack about 350 kilometers (217 miles) southwest of the capital, Mogadishu, the U.S. military said. link https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/africa/us-military-4-soldiers-wounded-in-somalia-treated-in-kenya/2018/06/09/a62926f8-6c5b-11e8-a335-c4503d041eaf_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.f57a8774521f

Chief of Defence Forces Presides Over the 33rd Defence Staff College Graduation

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe presided over the 33rd Defence Staff College (DSC) graduation held at Karen, Nairobi on Thursday, 7 June 2018.

A total of 50 officers of the ranks of newly appointed Lieutenant Colonel and Major from the three Services (Army, Air Force and Navy) who were drawn from Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia marked the ceremony as a completion of the year long Grade Two Staff course.

In his address, the Chief of Defence Forces who represented Defence Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Raychelle Omamo congratulated the graduands for the sacrifice they had made within the training period, mentioning that the course was of utmost relevance to their military careers, as it equipped them with necessary knowledge and skills to serve better, particularly in today’s world where issues like terrorism, insecurity and religious division had taken toll. He praised the significant growth that the Defence Staff College had made over the years, noting that it had become a centre of excellence not only within Kenya but also in the region. “The partnerships that this college has made with the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Government have ensured that our Officers acquire the most efficient training with the best resource people in this country”, he said.

General Mwathethe also challenged the graduands to give their best upon return to duty, and work even more to achieve greater heights in future. He also lauded the steps the college had made in improving gender policies, noting that the 33rd group of graduands comprised four lady officers – the highest number to have ever been enrolled at once for a course. He thanked the management of the college and all the personnel who had ensured that the course was a success.

The Defence Staff College Commandant Major General Ngewa Mukala added that the intended mission of the course had been achieved, and the output of the graduands upon arrival for duty could not be doubted. Major General Mukala indicated that the graduands had lived by their slogan “One Team, One Mission”.

The Chief of Defence Forces presented all the graduands with certificates and awarded those who had made exemplary performance in various areas, with Kenya Air Force’s Major Margaret Kikechi being the best student overall. The CDF also planted a commemorative tree at the college’s grounds.

The course participants comprised of Senior Military Officers and Senior Civil Servants from Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Egypt, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe selected for preparation of higher responsibilities in the direction and management of National Security and other related areas of Public Policy.

The College since establishment has trained six hundred and forty one (641) Kenyan military and Public Officers and two hundred and seven (207) Officers from friendly countries who after graduation occupy senior positions in security agencies and other related areas of Public Policy.

The Chief Guest, Cabinet Secretary of Defence, Ambassador Raychelle Omamo said, it was a great honor to preside over the ceremony, congratulating the graduates on their successful completion of the course, thanking their teaching staff, commanding officers and families.

“Eleven (11) members of the graduating class were drawn from ten (10) states, and we are honored and proud that your countries selected our NDC to further your military and professional careers as it is an indication that the College is held in high esteem by our regional counterparts. Russia quietly conducted the world's longest surface-to-air missile test

Russia quietly conducted the world's longest surface-to-air missile test, according to sources with direct knowledge of U.S. intelligence concerning the weapons program.

The S-500 surface-to-air missile system successfully struck a target 299 miles away, which the U.S. assessed is 50 miles further than any known test, said the sources, who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity.

Russia claims that the ground-based missile system is capable of intercepting hypersonic missiles, drones, aircraft as well as stealth warplanes like the F-22 and the F-35. The S-500 system would expand the Kremlin's capabilities to engage multiple targets with precision strikes.

Russia also claims the system has a range capable of destroying objects flying at near-space ranges or 62 miles above the Earth's surface.

The developments about the new missile system emerge as investigators claim that a Russian-owned surface-to-air missile blew up Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014 over eastern Ukraine. Russia has denied involvement in the incident. On Thursday, Moscow's defense ministry said none of the country's air-defense missile systems crossed the Russia-Ukraine border.

A medium-range Buk surface-to-air missile system was reportedly used to down the plane, resulting in the deaths of nearly 300 people. The Buk system is from a different family of missile systems as the new S-500 and its predecessor, the S-300V4, which has been operational since the late 1970s.

The test of the new system used a modified variant of the missile used in the S-300V4 surface-to-air system.

The latest revelation comes one week after CNBC learned that multiple U.S. intelligence reports assess that Russia will be capable of fielding a hypersonic glide vehicle called Avangard, a weapon that no country can defend against, by 2020.

The hypersonic weapon is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, is designed to sit atop an intercontinental ballistic missile. Once launched, it uses aerodynamic forces to sail on top of the atmosphere.

Sources, who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity, said Russia successfully tested the weapon twice in 2016. The third known test of the device was carried out in October 2017 and resulted in a failure when the platform crashed seconds before striking its target.

Meanwhile, Russia is expected to test their hypersonic glide vehicle again this summer. linkhttps://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/russia-quietly-conducted-the-worlds-longest-surface-to-air-missile-test/ar-AAxLA6m

Saudi Arabia threatens ‘military action’ if Qatar purchases Russian S-400 systems – report

Saudi Arabia has reportedly threatened “military action” against Qatar should its neighbor acquire Russian S-400 missile defense systems, according to Le Monde, citing a letter from King Salman to the French presidency.
In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, and Egypt, among other Gulf states, cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting and funding terrorism. Doha was also accused of “meddling” in the internal affairs of its neighbors and of expressing support for Saudi Arabia’s historic rival Iran.

Now Riyadh is reportedly worried that Doha’s planned acquisition of Russia's S-400 surface-to-air missile units will jeopardize the “national security” of its Persian Gulf neighbors. According to information obtained by Le Monde, King Salman has recently sent a letter to the French presidency, where he expressed his “deep concern” vis-à-vis the ongoing S-400 negotiations between Doha and Moscow

While Washington has yet to comment on the anticipated purchase of S-400s by Qatar, the US has recently locked horns with Ankara over its decision to secure its airspace using Russian systems. The US continues to insist that Turkey should only be using NATO-compatible systems and buying them from “allies.” Raising the stakes, US lawmakers introduced a bill which seeks to ban F-35 deliveries to Turkey, referring to the country as “increasingly hostile.”

US lawmakers also warned India that procurement of Russian advanced military systems may jeopardize defense cooperation and technology-sharing between Washington and New Delhi, urging the country to reconsider the purchase.
