The Federated Association of Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS), the apex umbrella body of all Zamfara State students across tertiary institutions, wishes to express its profound appreciation to His Excellency, Dr. Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State, for approving and releasing the long-awaited ₦163 million backlog payment owed to 149 Zamfara State–sponsored students at Crescent University, Abeokuta. This historic gesture comes after a decade of uncertainty and hardship, during which affected students and their families endured immense emotional and financial struggles due to unpaid tuition fees inherited from past administrations. The payment, which commenced in August 2025 and will be fully completed by the end of October 2025, stands as a landmark achievement in restoring the dignity of Zamfara students and renewing faith in government-sponsored education. FAZAMSS recognizes this action as a clear demonstration of Governor Dauda Lawal’s sincerity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to rescuing the educational sector of Zamfara State from years of neglect. His administration’s proactive approach to settling inherited liabilities reflects true leadership grounded in justice and service to humanity. We also extend our deepest appreciation to Professor Rasheedah Liman, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Scholarship Board, whose discipline, transparency, and dedication have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. Her hands-on supervision and open-door policy have redefined the scholarship system, creating new confidence among students statewide. This development has rekindled hope across the student community — not only among those studying outside the state but also those within our local institutions. We are therefore optimistic and encouraged by signals that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is also working toward reinstating the Local Scholarship Scheme to ensure that every Zamfara student, regardless of location, receives fair support to pursue academic excellence. FAZAMSS, on behalf of all Zamfara State students home and abroad, pledges continued cooperation and partnership with the government to ensure transparency, accountability, and sustained progress in the management of student welfare. In recognition of these initiatives, President Hichilema congratulated Governor Dauda Lawal for spearheading Nigeria’s first state-level digital literacy program, the Zamfara Digital Literacy Framework (ZDLF), which positions Zamfara as a beacon of digital transformation. He expressed his eagerness to foster partnerships with Nigeria to leverage its abundant resources in harnessing a digital revolution that enhances governance delivery and functionality across the region.

By Adeyemi Obadimu The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a strong prophetic warning to Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, over his recent political declaration and the use of the controversial slogan “Emilokan” in his governorship ambition for Oyo State. In a trending video that has set social media abuzz, the prophet, known for his accurate and fearless prophecies, warned Adelabu that his utterance of the word “Emilokan” has placed a spiritual stumbling block in his political path and could cost him the governorship seat if he fails to retrace his steps. In his words, he said “Adelabu, Minister for Power, you have made a wrong mistake and made a wrong statement by your pronouncement that ‘Emilokan’ to be the governor of Oyo State. The word is an old arcade statement. Emilokan is in the past meaning that you have failed. It’s either you adjust now, or you fail completely. Even the APC will fail if they pick you in Ibadan.” The outspoken prophet further emphasized that the phrase ‘Emilokan’, which gained political prominence during the last general elections, has become spiritually rejected and should not be invoked again by anyone aspiring for leadership. “Whoever told you to use that word ‘Emilokan’ has misled you,” he declared. “Sue me, arrest me, and reply me if you wish. You have once told me that if I talk again, you will arrest me and sue me I am ready for you. I am giving you a word of advice as directed by God and a warning from the Lord. You can take me up if you like, but I’m telling you, Adelabu, with the word ‘Emilokan’, you have missed the governorship seat. You won’t be governor of Oyo State, unless you change or rephrase it, because the word ‘Emilokan’ is angry.” Primate Ayodele, who has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most outspoken prophets on political, economic, and national matters, insisted that his message to the Minister was divinely inspired. “That’s the warning from the Lord,” he concluded. “If you like, take it or do anything you want to do about it.” The revered cleric has over the years gained recognition for his prophecies on politics, governance, and global events, many of which have come to pass. His latest revelation has once again stirred conversations in political circles, especially in Oyo State, where Adelabu is believed to be eyeing the governorship seat in the next election. Observers believe this pronouncement may shape the unfolding political narrative within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, especially as the controversial ‘Emilokan’ slogan meaning “It’s my turn” continues to spark debates across Nigeria’s political landscape.

Recent reports, including the UK Country Policy and Information Report for 2025, classifying Zamfara State as one grappling with significant governance and security challenges. While it is critical to acknowledge the genuine security concerns that have plagued the region for years, Labeling Zamfara as one of the "worst governed" states represents a mischaracterization that fails to recognize the profound and strategic interventions initiated since the inauguration of His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal as Governor of the mineral rich state. Governor Lawal took office in May 2023, inheriting a state on the brink of collapse, characterized by an alarming security crisis, a crippled civil service, and almost nonexistent public infrastructure. Health care services were in dire straits, effectively on the verge of comatose functionality. To evaluate governance solely based on the depth of the challenges inherited, without acknowledging the vigorous and structured efforts currently underway to rehabilitate the state, is not only unfair but does a disservice to the real progress being made. Notably, Zamfara’s internally generated revenue has surged from 90 million Naira to 2 billion Naira within just two years, illustrating a significant turnaround. Under Governor Lawal, Zamfara is undergoing a historic, multi-faceted transformation built on three foundational pillars: Security, Infrastructure Development and Economic Revitalization, and Good Governance. His commitment to hard work and resilience has resonated throughout the state, earning him the title of "Chief Rescurer." His administration is striving to revitalize every aspect of governance and infrastructure, steering the state toward an admirable future. Notably, the ongoing construction of the Zamfara Cargo Airport exemplifies Governor Lawal's foresight, as it is expected to greatly enhance air travel to the state and attract foreign direct investment. Zamfara, traditionally recognized for its agricultural potential, has bolstered growth under Governor Lawal’s policies. Initiatives such as fertilizer distribution have been initiated to ensure abundant harvests, while efforts are underway to connect farmers with offtakers, thereby increasing trade activity and ultimately promoting economic growth within the agricultural sector. A Paradigm Shift in Security Strategy The concept of "limited state presence" is being rigorously challenged by the emergence of a new security framework: the Zamfara Community Protection Guard (ZCPG). Launched in early 2024 under the leadership of Governor Lawal, this state-sanctioned community guard represents a significant evolution in local security initiatives. As a well-structured and community-informed security outfit, the ZCPG is designed to address the unique challenges faced by the State. Central to this initiative is the establishment of the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund, which is headed by former Inspector General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar Rtd. This fund aims to provide essential resources and support to the security agencies operating within the state. In a substantial recruitment drive, over 2,600 personnel are being meticulously vetted and deployed across 14 local government areas, tasked with the critical role of working alongside national security agencies to bolster their efforts. The results of the ZCPG's implementation have already begun to manifest, with noticeable improvements in security across previously volatile regions. Despite the inherent challenges of the security landscape, Governor Lawal has demonstrated a firm commitment to supporting various security agencies. This includes mobilization for critical operations, creating funds specifically for fuel to ensure that vehicles are operational, providing suitable accommodations for personnel, and distributing brand new patrol vehicles to all security agencies across the state, thereby facilitating enhanced patrol capabilities. Moreover, Governor Lawal's administration has placed a strong emphasis on Technology-Driven Surveillance. This involves significant investments in modern surveillance equipment and advanced communication systems, designed to amplify the effectiveness of security forces. The administration has established a framework for constant dialogue with security chiefs, thereby fostering a more coordinated and robust presence of both military and police forces. This strategic collaboration has led not only to the liberation of numerous kidnapping victims but also to the disruption and dismantling of various criminal networks operating within the state. These initiatives put forth by Governor Lawal and the ZCPG reflect a comprehensive approach to security that prioritizes community involvement, efficient resource allocation, and the integration of modern technology. This shift is poised to create a safer environment and restore confidence among the citizens of Zamfara. Heavy Investment in Infrastructure and Social Services Governor Lawal’s administration is spearheading what can be described as the most ambitious infrastructure revolution in the history of our state, effectively challenging the prevailing narrative of governmental failure. Prior to his tenure, Gusau, the state capital, was plagued by neglect and deterioration, it was, by many standards, an eyesore that failed to reflect the potential of the state. However, with fresh vision and determination, Governor Lawal initiated a comprehensive remodeling of the capital aimed at elevating it to meet global standards of urban development. At the heart of this transformation lies the audacious ‘Gusau Mega Project,’ a bold urban renewal initiative designed to revitalize the city. This project features an extensive overhaul of the road networks, introducing modern and spacious thoroughfares that facilitate smooth traffic flow and enhanced accessibility. Additionally, state-of-the-art drainage systems are being installed to mitigate flooding and improve environmental conditions, addressing a longstanding issue that has hampered urban living. The project also prioritizes sustainability and community welfare with the introduction of environmentally friendly bus stop covers that provide shelter and comfort to commuters. Furthermore, the rollout of Bazamfara Buses for the Zamfara State Mass Transit Authority marks a significant enhancement in public transportation, offering residents reliable and efficient transit options. In tandem with these transportation upgrades, the administration is focused on developing public facilities that restore dignity and order to our urban landscape. These facilities not only serve to improve the quality of life for citizens but also foster a sense of community pride and engagement. Through these strategic investments in infrastructure and social services, Governor Lawal’s administration is laying the groundwork for a brighter future, ensuring that Gusau transforms into a thriving urban center that meets the needs of its residents while attracting investment and promoting economic growth. Education Revolution: A State of Emergency in Education In a bold move to transform the educational landscape, Governor Lawal declared a state of emergency in education in Zamfara State. With the ambitious "Education for All" initiative overhaul and rehabilitate primary and secondary schools throughout the region, ensuring that every child has access to a quality education. For many years, students in Zamfara State faced significant barriers to their academic progress, notably being unable to sit for crucial examinations like the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO). This troubling situation stemmed from the substantial funds owed to these examination bodies by the previous administration, amounting to an alarming N1.5 billion. Recognizing the critical importance of education for the state's future, Governor Dauda took decisive action to clear this outstanding debt, enabling students to participate in these vital assessments. Beyond clearing the backlog, Governor Dauda made a significant financial commitment to strengthen the educational sector. His administration has invested in revamping schools, many of which have been modernized with state-of-the-art learning equipment designed to facilitate an engaging and effective learning environment. Classrooms are being equipped with the latest technology, and teachers are receiving the support and resources they need to deliver high-quality education. The state has embarked on the establishment of a fully equipped modern Computer-Based Testing (CBT) center. This facility will empower students to take their computer-based tests and examinations locally, eliminating the need for them to travel out of the state. This initiative not only enhances accessibility but also minimizes the associated travel costs and logistical challenges. Through these comprehensive reforms and investments, the administration is committed to ensuring that every student in Zamfara State receives the education they deserve, paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future. The "Education for All" initiative is not just a program; it is a promise to the children of Zamfara State that the Government is dedicated to unlocking their full potential. Healthcare Revitalization: Zamfara has renovates and re-equipped general hospitals and primary healthcare centers across the state to ensure quality healthcare is accessible to the people. In the area of health care delivery, the state has improved significantly. Governor Lawal has made significant strides in improving healthcare infrastructure by inaugurating fully renovated and equipped General Hospitals across key locations in Zamfara State, including Gusau, Anka, Maradun, Maru, Kaura, and Nasarawa Burkullu. These hospitals now feature state-of-the-art amenities designed to enhance patient care and medical services. Among the modernized facilities are Accident and Emergency Units, Special Care Baby Units (SCBUs), Maternity Wards, Radiology Departments, Dental Clinics, Orthopaedic Wards, and Operating Theatres, each equipped to meet the diverse health needs of the population. For instance, in Anka, the governor unveiled a comprehensive facility upgrade that included the construction of a new laboratory, maternity unit, and emergency services department. Additionally, patient wards and pharmacy blocks underwent extensive refurbishment, resulting in improved environments for both patients and healthcare professionals. To complement these enhancements, the administration has acquired advanced medical equipment essential for modern healthcare, including diagnostic imaging tools and surgical instruments. Agricultural Resuscitation: Recognizing that insecurity crippled the states agrarian economy, Zamfara state provided support to farmers through the distribution of fertilizers, improved seedlings, and facilitating access to secure farmlands to restore Zamfara's status as a food basket. As part of these efforts, the state has successfully distributed an impressive 59,205 bags of fertilisers, utilising 98 trucks for logistics. This extensive distribution is a crucial intervention, as it directly empowers local farmers to maximise productivity during the upcoming wet season, an essential period for crop cultivation. In addition to fertilisers, the initiative includes the provision of 34,800 kilograms of rice seeds and 80,000 kilograms of maize seeds, which are key staples for the state. Furthermore, the government has distributed 23,740 litres of herbicides, 11,735 litres of insecticides, and 23,470 sachets of seed dressing chemicals, all of which are vital in enhancing crop yields and ensuring the health of the crops. Restoring the Pillars of Good Governance Governor Lawal’s administration is firmly grounded in the principles of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility, which are essential for fostering public trust and effective governance. Under his leadership, the state recently held its 52nd State Executive Council meeting, a significant milestone where key topics such as budget performance and various pressing issues affecting the state’s development were thoroughly discussed. These gatherings not only facilitate transparency but also ensure that decision-making processes are inclusive and reflective of the diverse needs within the community. In line with its commitment to accountability, the state government publishes its budget performance annually. This comprehensive report details expenditures, revenue sources, and overall financial performance, allowing citizens to see exactly how public funds are utilized. Furthermore, Governor Lawal’s administration maintains an open-door policy, actively engaging with traditional institutions, community leaders, and stakeholders. This approach fosters unity and collective action, essential for addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the state. Regular engagement meetings with the Commissioner of Budget are also held to critically assess budget performance and identify areas needing enhancement. This proactive outreach has contributed to significant advancements in fiscal accountability. Notably, the administration has successfully resolved a substantial portion of the inherited debt, including the payment of overdue gratuities owed to civil servants and pensioners from previous administrations, demonstrating a commitment to honoring obligations and supporting those who have served the state. Remarkably, under Governor Lawal’s stewardship, Zamfara state has not taken out any loans from the Federal Government or external sources. Instead, the administration has effectively funded capital projects through prudent financial management and visionary leadership. By implementing stringent financial controls, the Governor has safeguarded public resources, ensuring that every Naira allocated is used for the benefit of the community. While acknowledging the state’s complex security situation, it is crucial to recognize that Zamfara is on a determined path toward recovery and prosperity. The label of "worst governed" reflects a painful past but does not accurately capture the dynamic present or the promising future being forged by the current administration. Local and international organizations are advised to go beyond sensational headlines and conduct thorough fact-finding missions to gain a deeper understanding of the state’s progress and challenges. Current data available illustrates that Zamfara is on the right trajectory, with decisive actions being taken to address its issues. Before 2023, Zamfara state was so neglected that a low-performing governor would have been hailed for accomplishing a mere fraction of just 5% of what Governor Lawal has done in just two years in charge. He didn't just meet that low bar; he shattered it, achieving all of this in a stunning two-year period. Under Governor Lawal, Zamfara has opened its arm wide for partnerships and invites collaborative efforts. With the steadfast leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, the state will soon serve as a benchmark for successful post-conflict transformation in Nigeria, showcasing resilience, innovation, and a commitment to sustainable governance. In a memo signed by PENGASSAN General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, and circulated to branch chairmen of TotalEnergies E&P, Seplat Producing Nigeria, Renaissance, Chevron, Oando, Shell Nigeria Gas, and NGIC, the union instructed immediate shutdown of crude oil supply valves, suspension of vessel loading operations, and disconnection of gas supply to the refinery. The statement accused the refinery management of “illegitimate” actions and of engaging in “misinformation and propaganda” instead of addressing labour concerns. > “As you are aware, the Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disengaged our members in reaction to the exercise of their constitutional right to being unionised. They have gone further on a mission of misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegitimacy rather than engaging meaningfully with us to right the wrong. Consequent to these, you are hereby directed to cut off gas supply to NGIC effective immediately. All crude oil supply valves to the Refinery should be shut, and the loading operation for vessels headed there should be halted,” the memo read in part. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has threatened to picket the Dangote Petroleum Refinery following the alleged dismissal of 800 Nigerian workers who recently joined the union. According to PENGASSAN, over 2,000 Indian nationals have been recruited to replace the sacked workers. The refinery, however, dismissed the allegation, insisting that only a small number of employees were let go in what it described as an ongoing reorganisation aimed at addressing “repeated acts of sabotage.” A letter, titled “Reorganisation” and addressed to staff on Thursday, had earlier surfaced on social media. It partly read: “In view of the many recent cases of reported sabotage in different units of the petroleum refinery leading to major safety concerns, the management is constrained to carry out a total reorganisation of the plant. As a consequence of this development, we wish to inform you that your services are no longer required, with effect from the eve of Thursday, the 25th of September, 2025. “Please surrender all the company’s properties in your possession to your line manager and obtain an exit clearance accordingly, but the date for doing so will be communicated to you later.” PENGASSAN General Secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa, however, said the mass dismissal was linked to unionisation efforts. “When the witch cries in the night and the baby dies in the morning, what do you expect? “In the letter, they didn’t say it was because they joined the union. But as of Thursday, the workers actually completed the process of unionisation as directed by the Federal Government. The CEO of Payment company, EazzyTransact and EazzyOil Petroleum Gas Energy Limited, Olusanya Olumide Adediran, is currently facing a probe initiated by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N50 Billion illegal forex deal. The parties, currently before the Federal High Court Abuja, are contesting the legality of an interim forfeiture order made against properties in Lekki and Victoria Island, Lagos, allegedly linked to Adediran and the two companies. While the EFCC is attempting to establish alleged breach of trust and fraudulent diversion against the CEO, Adediran and his two companies are maintaining the development is purely a civil contract. In an affidavit to show cause filed on September 22, 2025, by the companies’ CEO, exclusively seen by Nairametrics, Adediran’s personal secretary, Ndubusi Chima, strongly denies EFCC’s allegation, maintaining that while the EFCC alleges money laundering, his boss entered into a “Bilateral Currency Exchange Forward Agreement” with Kashton Concepts (nominal complainant) in July 2024. The official disclosed that under the agreement, the nominal complainant would transfer N32.4 billion to EazzyTranzact, while the payment platform would transfer $24,000,000 to the nominal complainant within a period of 30 days. The deponent added that the transfer from the nominal complainant was to be made promptly to avoid fluctuations in currency and market forces. “Eventually, a delay occurred, and the 3rd respondent notified the nominal complainant of a loss of $16,500,000,” the deponent claimed, highlighting that prior to this transaction, the nominal complainant and the payment company had carried out transactions worth over $100,000,000. Chima maintained that the nominal complainant did not deny previous transactions but assured them of an increase in the volume of trade and further gave assurance of prompt payment to enable the payment company to recover the financial loss suffered. The deponent stated that while the parties further agreed to work on obtaining a Standby Letter of Credit to facilitate the transaction and reach an amicable resolution, the EFCC invited their management over alleged criminal breach of trust and money laundering. Adediran’s legal team urged the court to hold that EFCC has no basis to allege money laundering over a “civil contract agreement” with Kashton Concepts. This development dates back to 14th February 2025, when the Inspector General of Police was petitioned to investigate fraudulent double settlements totaling N21,489,479,236.09, which allegedly occurred through Providus Bank POS terminals operated by Ademola and Adeniyi, among others. What the Court Is Saying In his ruling on August 12, 2025, Justice Nwite agreed with Moniepoint’s legal team, led by N.M. I was with my wife three days ago where they were doing her shops for her. We finished and I was asking about the remaining cements to finish it when we suddenly saw a bus and about four motorcycles. “When the passengers in the bus alighted, I saw some people I identify as Jogodo, Lisa Epe, Balogun, Councillor and some security officers. They suddenly pounced on me, shot at me, and machete me. I was even dragged on the floor with the injury I sustained for reasons not known to me. “I don’t have anything to do with them, I only know them because I stay in the same vicinity with them. My wife bought two plots of land along Ikenne road in Orile Sagamu and it was there that they came to meet us. The containers my wife uses there was destroyed.” Speaking further, one of the representatives of the family that sold the landed property, Prince Abdul Fatai Anoko narrated that the landed property in question was invaded by the people of Epe community despite having clear boundaries. He asked us to hold on but suddenly, we saw these people from Epe destroying houses of people. Two weeks later, they destroyed someone’s shop on the landed properties we sold which belongs to us. Some of the chiefs that followed them had been arrested before and we are just surprised that all these could be happened. We have video evidences for all of these but the most surprising is just yesterday, they shot one of those we sold landed properties to, he was rushed to the hospital to save his life. This is why we are crying out to those in authority to come to our rescue because our lives are in danger at the moment.” Another representative, Chief Abdulateef Adewale Anoko noted that the invaders have tried several ways to take over their landed properties and the attack is the latest one. He also noted that the perpetrators have been arrested but urged relevant authorities to follow the matter up to avoid a re-occurrence. “It is only the government that can save us from these land grabbers. They have tried several ways to take over the land and we have tried to go to the Akarigbo and he said we should all be patient. We followed the counsel but for two weeks now, we have been seeing thugs and hoodlums on our landed properties, destroying valuable things. The happening of yesterday remains the most shocking of all due to the incident that affected one of our clients whom we sold land to. We are grateful that they have been arrested. We are asking the government to please follow up o the case because they are going after us everywhere. By Adeyemi Obadimu At the GITEX 2025 technology exhibition held on Thursday at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Unitellas Edge Cloud, Mr. Smith Osemeke, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s data domestication and sovereign cloud policies. Osemeke highlighted that Unitellas, a proudly local cloud company, has been at the forefront of providing secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud services in Nigeria for the past seven years. According to him, the company was established with a clear mandate to ensure that sensitive data generated within Nigeria is stored within the country’s borders in line with the Federal Government’s directives on data sovereignty. “Unitellas is a local cloud company. What we do is ensure that data is hosted here in Nigeria. We have invested heavily to build storage capacity locally, so organisations no longer need to rely solely on foreign cloud providers,” Osemeke explained. The Unitellas CEO noted that many Nigerian organisations face recurring challenges with data storage, often spending millions of dollars on servers that eventually reach end-of-life, forcing them into costly refresh cycles. While foreign cloud solutions may appear cheaper, Osemeke stressed that outsourcing data management to providers outside the country comes with a significant trade-off: loss of control and exposure of critical information to external entities. “To address this, we brought in advanced cloud infrastructure to Nigeria, allowing businesses and institutions to store data securely and locally without compromising sovereignty,” he said.
