By Ebuka Obidinma A Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mohammed Ndarani has urged the Federal Government to settle Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators’ matters out of court through a formidable national committee of Arbitration. Ndarani who is the Grand Patron of One Nation for Asiwaju Support Group made the call at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, and said the move will lead to peace, and unity in diversity. ``In my opinion, court may not be the solution to the above matter, if peace must reign in the nation. “President Bola Tinubu should consider Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms like arbitration, conciliation and mediation in some of these cases concerning these agitators”. ADR refers to any method of conflict resolution that takes place outside of the courtroom. It involves processes and techniques of conflict resolution without litigation, and empowers parties to work together using a framework to amicably settle complex issues. ``The political atmosphere in Nigeria is tense, with tribal and religious issues being championed everyday by some people and segments who feel marginalized and aggrieved. "In present times, early resolution of a dispute not only saves valuable time and money for the parties to the dispute, but also promotes peace and unity. ``Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act and section 174 of the 1999 constitution (as ammended), provide that parties can explore alternative options for both civil and criminal matters. ``The treason matter involving Omoyele Sowore, leader of Revolution Now Movement and a presidential candidate for the 2023 election, and also the terrorism case against Bello Badejo, leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, both of which cases were withdrawn by the Nigerian government, is commendable. "There is therefore, the need to seek further peace and unity of the nation. “High profile cases like Kanu’s are best resolved as quickly as possible because they evoke a lot of sentiments. “Another reason why an expeditious resolution of the matter must be sought is because it would begin to heal festering wounds which we can certainly do without at this stage of our nationhood”, he said. The senior lawyer reminded that justice delayed is invariably justice denied. “Talking about litigation generally in our courts, it is clear that some matters drag on interminably, and this has a knock-on effect on the willingness of our people to seek justice in our law courts.” Ndarani said that arbitration could equally help in decongesting our courts which are currently bogged down by a lot more matters than they can expeditiously dispose of. “Indispensable as the role of courts is in the society, the process is usually long drawn out and hence, the need to explore more frequently the option of alternative dispute resolution. “The sooner we find alternative means of quickly disposing of these worrisome matters the better for the promotion of peace and harmony in our country. “I will advise the president to look inwards to see how to settle most of these pockets of agitations that have given rise to loss of lives and property. “Arbitration can bring rest to the east, peace and rest to the wanton killings in the middle belt, as well as other parts of the country”, he said. Ndarani advised that Nigerians should be patient with Tinubu, saying that he met an unjust society, and that it is not easy to re-arrange a system that had already collapsed before the advent of his administration. "Nigeria's problem is the few elites who put their interest on the first. "I advise the president to avoid them and explore all mechanisms to promote peace in Nigeria rather than seek prosecution. "If Nigeria is peaceful, Tinubu will do well for the nation", he said. He urged president Tinubu to watch out for little foxes that spoil the vine, while he is trying to hold Nigeria together as one indivisible nation.

The Presidential Community Engagement Office (South-West), led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Moremi Ojudu, has launched the Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki programme, a transformative grassroots energy intervention set to power homes and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the Ibeju-Lekki community. The initiative, supported by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and executed in partnership with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, is a key part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It aims to improve access to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy at the community level by reducing the electricity burden on families and business owners while stimulating economic growth. Speaking at the launch event, Moremi Ojudu reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to bringing development closer to the people. “We are here today on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to say: we see you, we hear you, and we are with you. This project is not just about solar panels, it’s about real empowerment, homegrown solutions, and shared progress.” Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, commended the partnership, noting that it aligns with the LGA’s own development priorities. “We are grateful for this federal intervention and proud that Ibeju-Lekki has been chosen as a beneficiary community. This will go a long way in supporting our people and our local economy.” Engr. Adesoji Oyedeji, who represented NASENI at the event, described the programme as one of many steps the agency is taking to decentralise access to energy and foster innovation through local solutions. In preparation for the distribution, selected youths from the community were trained in solar panel installation, thereby giving them not only the skills to support the rollout but also creating employment pathways within the same neighbourhoods the project is designed to serve. With installations now set to begin, the Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki initiative stands as another proof point of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action in delivering practical impact, strengthening communities, and lighting the way toward a more inclusive, empowered future.

...Calls for Government and Security Intervention to Ensure Her Safety The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Igbimo Asoju Yoruba, has strongly condemned the recent wave of cyberbullying and threats directed at Lagos State University lecturer, Dr. Adeyinka Olarinmoye, popularly known as Iyalode Adeyinka Bello. The organization described the online attacks as dangerous, unethical, and a threat to free speech, cultural identity, and human dignity. Dr. Olarinmoye became the target of widespread backlash following a comment she made on social media on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, under a post by Nigerian music star, David Adeleke (Davido). In the post, Davido expressed pride in his Igbo heritage, to which Dr Olarinmoye responded: “I would ensure my kids marry Yoruba.” The statement, which was clearly an expression of personal cultural preference, was met with hostility from certain individuals on social media, particularly from non-Yoruba ethnic groups. What began as criticism quickly escalated into coordinated cyberbullying, with threats even being made against her life. In response, Igbimo Asoju Yoruba, otherwise known as Yoruba Leaders Forum under the leadership of its Converner, Chief George Ogunjimi, The Bamofin Of Ojo, Lagos has issued a firm statement in support of Dr. Adeyinka Olarinmoye. The organization praised her courage in upholding her cultural values and condemned those using social media platforms to incite hatred and violence. “We cannot allow a society where individuals, especially women and educators, are threatened for peacefully expressing cultural identity or values,” said Chief. George Ogunjimi. “Dr. Olarinmoye has done nothing wrong. Her statement was not inciting, discriminatory, or hateful. The bullying she has faced is unjustified and must be addressed seriously.” He further called on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and all relevant security agencies to act swiftly to ensure Dr. Olarinmoye’s safety and investigate those responsible for the threats. “Cyberbullying is not a minor issue it can cause emotional distress, mental health challenges, and even pose physical risks. We urge the Nigeria Police Force and cybercrime units to trace and prosecute those responsible to send a strong message that online violence is unacceptable,” Chief Ogunjimi added. The organization also used the opportunity to call for stronger digital ethics across Nigeria, emphasizing that freedom of speech must be exercised responsibly and that cultural expression should not be met with hostility

SERAP is urging the court to “direct and compel the CBN to disclose the details of any direct payments to the 774 local government councils in Nigeria The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for allegedly failing to disclose details of direct payments made to the country’s 774 local government councils. SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Sunday. The legal action comes on the heels of a landmark Supreme Court judgment delivered in July 2024, which ruled that allocations from the Federation Account must be paid directly to democratically elected local government councils. The judgment also emphasized that state governors have no authority to withhold or control such funds. In the suit filed last Friday at the Federal High Court in Lagos (Suit No. FHC/L/MSC/521/2025), SERAP is urging the court to “direct and compel the CBN to disclose the details of any direct payments to the 774 local government councils in Nigeria, including the amounts sent to each council since the Supreme Court judgment.” The organization is also demanding clarification on whether direct payments have been made to the local government councils in Rivers State and, if so, the rationale behind such disbursements. “The CBN should make it possible for citizens to have access to the details of any direct payments to the 774 local government councils to ensure transparency and accountability, and judge whether the CBN and other agencies are complying with the Supreme Court judgment,” the statement read. “You Are Community's True Heroes" - Taiwo Oyekan Salutes Lagos Island Workers Powered by Inline Related Posts The case marks another bold move by SERAP in its ongoing campaign for public transparency and fiscal accountability across all levels of government. The Management of the newly assented Federal University of Technology, Ilaro(FUTI), under the leadership of Dr.Mukail Aremu Akinde FCA, FCTI has profoundly lauded His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his Renewed Hope Agenda through which education is prioritized as a key factor in driving development of the country. Dr. Akinde said the President’s approval of a new brand University of Technology will go a long way in boosting innovation and the development of Yewaland, Ogun State and Nigeria in general in relation to the economy and human capacity development. The Rector also added that the new development has brought immeasurable joy onto the faces of the critical stakeholders, the Host and Institution’s community as well as the students, Alumni, staff, both teaching and non-teaching. The Rector disclosed this during an impromptu media briefing in his office on Thursday, 21st May, 2025 following a sumptuous announcement made by the Senate President Godwin Akpabio on Wednesday, 20th May, 2025 that the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI) Bill has been assented to by the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and now upgraded to Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI). “On behalf of the Governing Council, the Management, students, staff and Alumni, I respectfully, humbly and lavishly thanked our amiable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, our most Distinguished Senator and Chairman Appropriations Committee of the Senate, (Aremo) Dr. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) FCA FCTI FPPI CON and our revered Paramount ruler of Yewaland, the Chairman of Ogun State Council of Obas, HRM Oba Dr. (ESV) Kehinde Olugbenle for the individual roles played in the upgrade of FUTI. The Aremo of Yewa Land and the Chairman of Appropriations Committee of the Senate has been a phenomenal diplomat and has indeed contributed significantly to the development of the Polytechnic. “President Tinubu’s policy, especially in education sector has really proven his readiness and support for the education sector. Look at the 2025 budget for Education sector, in fact, it’s one of the best we have ever seen in years. “For example, the FPI capital envelopes rose by more than 90% this year”. This is remarkably exceptional. Dr. Akinde noted that while Nigerians are eager to see the FUTI issuing B.Tech certificates, the reality is that it is logical that the present students will have to finish their courses based on the qualifications they applied for. “The students have been asking questions on whether they can have their B. Tech Certificates. My swift reply to them was that we advertised for ND and HND certification, even though the Bill has been signed into law, it is understandable that the students must finish the courses they started. “Also, from what’s obtainable at other Institutions that have gone through this type of upgrade, the students completed the courses they were admitted. “After the completion of their courses, they may choose to do conversion to have B.Tech degree here at FUTI. “Let me assure the parents of our 21,112 students that their wards are in safe hands. They will graduate in record time. “I want to say that the assent given by President Tinubu was historic and it is a momentous occasion to redirect the success story of the Institution established in 1979. Understandably, the Act of the National Assembly will be gazetted and extant processes on the matter will be followed. The Management is committed to religiously followed the extant processes of the Federal Government on the establishment of FUTI. “Let’s not be in haste, let’s await the processes and complete it. “We are confident that FUTI will continue on the path of FPI's academic excellence considering the level of infrastructure, sited on about 898 hectares of land, experienced and seasoned teaching staff among which are about 80 Ph.D holders and dedicated non-teaching staff all poised for the upgrade. “Let me also say without mincing words that our Aremo of Yewa is an uncommon representative. I have never seen any representative of his kind in Ogun West in recent times at the upper chamber. He is simply the best and God bequeathed asset to the people of Ogun West. “Once again, on behalf of the Council and the management, I say special thank you to our dear President Bola Tinubu GCFR, Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI and the Paramount ruler of Yewaland, HRM Oba Dr. Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, Asade Agunloye IV for the remarkable milestone”, Dr Akinde concluded.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, under the leadership of the rector, Dr Mukail Akinde, has thrown its heavy weight behind the Executive Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede. Dr Akinde noted that the controversial low performance of candidates at the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was due to software malfunction. He stated that considering the Registrar’s motive which was more of improving the quality of education, as well as eradicating the agelong examination practices in Nigeria, every reasonable Nigerian should accept the inevitability of Computer-Based Test (CBT) which readily comes with its own susceptibility; prone to occasional malfunction. Fielding impromptu questions from journalists in his office at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro administrative block on Friday, 16th May, 2025, the rector issued a bombshell when he said the results were not so bad in itself, implying that the percentage of candidates who scored below 160-199 (50.29%) was not out of place. Dr Akinde posited that by tracking the records of the Registrar, it is noticeable that the conduct of the examination has improved tremendously from what it used to be. “The performance of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over years before Prof Oloyede from 2018 to 2024 on the average, of candidates who scored between 139 to 119 was 78.3%. “For us in academics, we talk with statistics, this year’s result is not a failure, it was a good result. “Now about technology, there is no fully satisfied technology in the whole world. You are talking about an automated centre, software can malfunction at any time without human intervention. “You will recall that when Profess Oloyede came in as the Executive Registrar of JAMB, his intervention has been to redirect JAMB in ensuring that candidates are exposed to modern technology, not only that, the examination body which was at the verge of been scrapped due to its level of ridiculous irregularity has become something that is not common again. “Moreso, the Registrar, Professor Oloyede has taken full responsibility, for the first time, I am seeing in this country that we have a leader, even though the glitches were minor, he has taken responsibility unlike leaders in Africa who were known for shifting blame. “Not only that, he has given such candidates the opportunity to rewrite the examination. “Before this incident, I am aware Nigerians were all proud of Professor Ishaq Oloyede because he was able to reposition JAMB to be an Institution that is one of the best in Nigeria, so, now that the so-called glitch occurs, it is naivety on the part of some people to call for his sanction. “For us at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, considering the cumulative performance of the Registrar, yes it’s painful that some candidates were affected, the good news is that Professor Ishaq Oloyede has also given the opportunity to this set of candidates to rewrite the examination”. Dr Akinde disagreed with a section of the populace who argued that most of the candidates didn’t know the usage of the buttons and keys on the computer to answer the questions which was responsible for their low performance, saying that, in addition to the fact that they have been duly tutored during the Mock Examination, there were clear instructions on the screen of the computers, for which they don’t have any other options than to read it carefully and assimilate before proceeding to answer the questions. Mr Ismail Odeyemi who was incharge of the CBT Centre of FPI, said the computer was configured to ask the candidates several times if they actually wanted to submit, in addition to the fact that the supervisors were readily available to guide any candidates facing challenges in the use of the computer. “On the Computer’s screen allotted to each candidate, the instructions were clearly written. JAMB has simplified every process. There's a keyboard and mouse. Most importantly, they are expected to be computer literate, at least. “So, when the candidate clicks an answer, the colour of the alphabet changes from red to green, which means it's self-explanatory. “Also, they were given a rough answer sheet where the examination’s instructions/procedures were written clearly”. Engr Frank Ajibodu, the technical officer of the Polytechnic noted that JAMB has made provision for a five minutes orientation at the examination hall where supervisors were directed to guide the candidates through the instructions on the computer screen on how to start, click answer and submit the answer sheet when they are done with the questions. He said also that it is the duty of the candidates and their parents to build confidence which must have automatically allayed what some commentators described as Examiphobia, adding that such phobia was not new, it also existed during the paper-pencil era of 20th century. Concluding, Dr Akinde charges parents to dedicate more of their time to monitoring the children’s studying time and preventing them from spending most of their time in using phones, proffering that secondary students should not be allowed to own a phone.

Africa-focused fintech company OPay has seen its valuation climb to $2.75 billion, according to recent regulatory filings from minority shareholder Opera Limited. While this increase is noteworthy, the filings also highlight a significant drop in unrealized fair value gains. Opera Limited, an early investor holding a 9.4% stake in OPay, valued its interest at $258.3 million in 2024, up slightly from $253.3 million in 2023. However, the company’s unrealized gains from this investment fell sharply—from $89.8 million in 2023 to just $5 million in 2024—indicating a notable slowdown in the pace of OPay’s valuation growth. Political tension is brewing in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) following the controversial imposition of aspirants, Adebayo Adefuye (as chairman), son of a prominent Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) member, Baba Anthony Adefuye, and Babatunde Joseph Ojo Vice chairman ( impostion of Friday Soton, SA domestic to Mr President) as the party's flag bearers for the upcoming local government elections. The move has triggered strong backlash from stakeholders and loyal party members who describe the decision as undemocratic, provocative, and a betrayal of grassroots principles. In a statement issued by a coalition of concerned party stakeholders, the group condemned what they called the “unacceptable imposition” of Adefuye, a candidate they claim lacks genuine ties to the Yaba community. They noted that the development undermines internal democracy and disrespects the will of the people. “We categorically reject this imposition and declare our unwavering resistance to it,” the statement read. “Yaba LCDA is not a political dumping ground. We will not allow the hard-won peace and democratic process of our community to be jeopardized by personal interests and political godfatherism.” The group also accused Baba Adefuye of hypocrisy, citing his previous actions in 2019 when he reportedly blocked the candidacy of Hon. Ibrahim Ajani Owolabi in Somolu Local Government on grounds of non-resident status. Ironically, they say, he is now attempting to install his own son in Yaba—a community they claim neither father nor son has significant roots in. Further raising eyebrows is the assertion that Adebayo Adefuye only recently secured a second-term appointment as a board member at Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (Lasubeb) and is now being positioned for a council leadership role despite questions over his residency claim. According to the group, Adefuye’s only identifiable link to Yaba is his occasional attendance at the United African Methodist Evangelical Church in Abule Ijesa Ward I. The coalition is calling on the party national leader President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to intervene immediately and reverse the foisting of unknown candidates, warning that failure to do so could spark serious political unrest in the area. “Yaba LCDA deserves competent and locally rooted leadership—not candidates imposed through the back door by GAC chieftains,” they said. “We shall not be silenced. We shall not be intimidated.” As of press time, there has been no official response from the party’s leadership or from the Adefuye camp. However, tensions continue to rise as party loyalists in Yaba vow to resist any attempt to legitimize what they describe as “political colonization.”

The Representatives of Late Oba Odumena Igimisoje Akarigbo Royal Family of Sagamu had finally cleared the air on the real ownership of a parcel of land along Ikenne-Remo Road,ORILE-OFIN,SAGAMU as Igimisoje Anoko Family refutes Fakoya/ARIGBABOWO Family Ownership Claim A fresh land ownership declaration has emerged in Orile Ofin, Sagamu, Ogun State, following a viral social media video by Otunba Adewale Fakoya, who claims ownership of a parcel of land located at Ikenne-Remo Road, opposite the NYSC Camp, at the former Oko Rubber Area. In the video, Otunba Fakoya warned the public against purchasing any portion of the land from Alabama Properties Agency, alleging the Agency lacks legitimate rights to handle transactions and she even claimed she is doing bonanza on the land. In a swift and strongly-worded response, Prince Babatunde Adegboyega, Secretary to His Royal Majesty, Late Oba Odumena Igimisoje Akarigbo, speaking on behalf of the Anoko/ Igimisoje Family, dismissed Fakoya’s claims as "entirely false and misleading." “The land in question is an ancestral property belonging to our forefathers, and it remains the bonafide property of the Anoko / Igimisoje Family,” Prince Adegboyega stated. “The family has never, at any point in time, relinquished ownership of the land to the Fakoya family or any other entity.” According to him, the Anoko Igimisoje Family duly contracted Alabama Properties to manage and sell parts of the land on their behalf. “We consider Alabama Properties a reputable and trustworthy agency, and we stand by their operations on our land,” he affirmed. Fakoya reportedly claimed that he was granted ownership of the land by the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Otunba Gbenga Daniel in 2010, with a supporting government gazette. However, the Anoko Igimisoje Family contends that this gazette was invalidated when Governor Ibikunle Amosun assumed office and canceled previous allocations in 2011. “To date, no legally recognized gazette or government documentation has revalidated the purported allocation,” Prince Adegboyega emphasized. Despite the Gazette ingenuity, Fakoya/ Arigbabowo Family is alleged to have continued selling portions of the land, while also making repeated attempts to intimidate Alabama Properties and family members involved in the land’s legitimate sale. “He has reported our family to the Police severally and the Land Grabbing Office in Abeokuta,” Adegboyega said. “Yet, we have remained law-abiding and have encouraged him to take his claims to court, where we are ready to meet him and resolve this matter once and for all.” Also speaking on the matter, Prince Abdul-Fatai Otaiku, another senior member of Anoko Igimisoje family, expressed the family's intention to reclaim any sections of the land already sold by Fakoya family. “We are ready to collect our land back from Fakoya family because he has been selling it to unsuspecting buyers. The land belongs to us and not them,” Prince Abdul-Fatai declared. The Anoko Igimisoje Family has called on members of the public to disregard the statements made by Otunba Fakoya and urged government authorities and community leaders to intervene in order to prevent further unlawful sales and safeguard the interests of the rightful landowners. As the conflict escalates, all eyes remain on the next legal steps, which may determine the final ownership of the hotly contested property.

A coalition of concerned landlords, electorates, and political stakeholders in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has expressed strong opposition to the rumored nomination of Mr. Joseph Babatunde Ojo as Chairman in the upcoming 2025 Lagos State Local Government Elections. The group led by Amoo Ismail has officially petitioned the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (OON), urging her and the President to intervene and prevent what they describe as a repeat of past political imposition that hindered development in the area. In a formal communication to the First Lady, the group raised concerns about Mr. Ojo’s advanced age, poor health, and long absence from political engagement, questioning his suitability for such a demanding executive position. They further allege that Mr. Ojo is being sponsored by Mr. Friday Soton, a presidential aide, despite residing in Surulere and having no visible ties to Yaba LCDA, is accused of manipulating the political process for personal gain. The stakeholders recall that a similar imposition occurred eight years ago, when the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Omiyale, was allegedly installed through Mr. Soton’s influence leading to stagnation and underdevelopment throughout his tenure. This, they claim, contributed significantly to the ruling party's poor performance in the 2023 Presidential election within the Yaba area. “This is not just a political issue; it is a matter of justice, equity, and the future of our local government,” the group stated. “We have over thirteen credible, capable, and active aspirants ready to lead Yaba LCDA into a new era of progress. The community deserves a transparent and inclusive selection process, not another imposition.” The concerned citizens are calling for a halt to what they describe as the hijacking of the local democratic process and are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady to take immediate and decisive action. “We implore the First Lady and Mr. President to hear the voices of grassroots leaders and the electorate who are directly affected by these decisions. Yaba LCDA deserves better leadership, free from the manipulation of external power brokers.” In the same vein Sen Adefuye also alledged that he want to impose his son on Yaba LCDA boasting openly that there is nothing anyone can do about it. In conclusion, the group has vowed to continue engaging all appropriate democratic channels to ensure accountability, fairness, and true representation in the forthcoming elections.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has sacked top officials of the national oil company, about 27 days after the exit of its erstwhile Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mele Kyari. However, it was learnt that several other lower and middle class staff were also affected by the restructuring drive, which was first reported by an online newspaper yesterday. Top among those departing immediately are the Chief Upstream Investment Officer, NNPC Upstream Investment Services (NUIMS), Bala Wunti. NUIMS is the investment management arm of the NNPC. It manages the Nigerian government’s investments in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, plus its equity holdings in Joint Venture (JV), Production Sharing Contract (PSC), and Service Contract (SC) companies. Besides, NUIMS, a powerful unit in the company, oversees the Nigerian Petroleum Exchange (NipeX), an electronic platform for contracting in the upstream sector. Others who were affected by the sackings included: The Managing Director of the Kaduna Refinery, Ibrahim Onoja as well the Chief Compliance Officer and former Managing Director of NNPC Trading, Lawal Sade. But a source who confirmed the development to Akelicious, sought to downplay it, describing it as ‘routine’ and stressed that a number of those who were asked to leave their posts were already on their way out due to retirement; “Some people with 18 months to retirement were giving the option of early exit, other were giving lump sums to go while some were promoted to fill the vacant positions.” Some have however insinuated that some of the firings had do with their closeness to the former GCEO Kyari who was fired by the President early this month. Wunti, for instance, was particularly close to Kyari when he held sway at the oil company. Aside from the top officials who were asked to leave, over 200 other employees were impacted. Furthermore, Maryam Idrisu has now taken over as Managing Director of NNPC Trading, the unit responsible for all crude oil transactions.

The Director General DG of The Progressive Institute, TPI Lanre Adebayo PhD and his last Friday visitor, Mr. Abdulazees Adediran, former Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both say younger Nigerians have hope with the leadership quality of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The duo affirm Tinubu's commitment to passing the leadership baton of Nigeria to the next generation. "I'm in APC to support President Tinubu achieve this. Adebayo, a Leadership and Governance experts and the Lagos Politician both agreed with the press. Famously known as “Jandor,” the famous Abuja based business man and his host in TPI made the commendation during a Adediran's visit to the party’s training and think-tank institution, The Progressive Institute (TPI) in Abuja on Friday. Adediran, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noted that his meeting with Mr. President gives him more hope about Nigeria. "Reflecting on my meeting with President Tinubu prior to my defection, where the President explicitly expressed his readiness to ensure a smooth transition of leadership to the next generation". I'm proud to be part of this transitional moment", he said. Adediran urged the APC leadership and its members to support the President’s vision, highlighting that Tinubu’s leadership recruitment strategy is crucial for the successful generational transition. "There is nothing all of us that are coming behind him have to do now than to see how we can support him, to ensure a very smooth transition of him passing the baton to the next generation.” Expressing delight in returning to the governing party, Adediran said APC remains the only stable party in the country. According to him,”Our decision to come back to the family is really not far-fetched, because if you look at all the political parties in Nigeria today, the only one with a semblance of stability, is the APC.” He commended the initiative of the Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) for establishing the Progressive Institute. Describing it as a “citadel for leadership recruitment,” Jandor noted that the establishment of the institute is speaking to the passing on of the baton and leadership recruitment. He argued that the major problem we have in Nigeria today is not the structure of our economy, it’s a leadership problem. If we see somebody getting it right, it’s the President today. You just don’t want to be a President. You want to see how we can have structure that will speak to recruiting leadership.” Earlier the Director-General of the institute, Dr. Adebayo disclosed of plans by the institute to evolve a political ideology for the ruling party and to assist the party in leadership recruitment. He also said the institute is also to undertake research on public policies, on political party management, and of course on governance. Adebayo, who describes his visitor as a brilliant brand, hailed his decision to join the ruling party, noting that APC means well for Nigeria.

In the often chaotic landscape of Nigeria's border security and revenue collection, one individual has emerged as a transformative leader: Comptroller Kola Oladeji, the immediate past Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A. Over the course of his 12-month tenure, Oladeji has not only revolutionized Customs operations within that region but has also set a new standard for effective, compassionate, and intelligent border protection in 21st-century Africa. His strategic interventions and leadership approach have created a model that may pose a significant challenge for his successor to fill the substantial gaps left by his redeployment. Comptroller Oladeji attributes his remarkable achievements to the unwavering support and guidance he received from the current Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as well as the collaboration from all members of the Management of the Service. This backing did not only facilitated smoother operations but also empowered him to fulfill his mandate with remarkable efficiency. Under his leadership, the FOU Zone A experienced enhanced operational effectiveness, improved revenue collection, and strengthened border security measures, paving the way for a more organized and secure customs process that benefits both the government and the citizens. The data available presents a compelling narrative of success; however, it is important to note that as of Wednesday, April 23, there was a noticeable absence of FOU Zone A operatives on the roads of Lagos. Despite this lack of visible presence, the FOU ‘A’, led by the former Comptroller Oladeji, continued to fulfill its primary mission effectively. In recent operations, the unit conducted significant seizures, including a cache of arms and ammunition in Oshodi, Lagos, all based on reliable intelligence. Remarkably, these operations were carried out without seeking media attention, underscoring the commitment of the team to their duties and the delicate nature of their work. Such efforts highlight the ongoing commitment to maintaining security and public safety, even amidst challenges in visibility and outreach. The impressive performance he has displayed is a direct extension of the outstanding work he accomplished while serving as the Coordinator of the Joint Border Patrol Team for the North West Zone - Sector 2. During his tenure in this role, he not only demonstrated strong leadership and strategic planning but also fostered collaboration among various agencies to enhance border security. His successful initiatives and commitment to excellence in this position ultimately paved the way for his transition to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, where he continues to build on his accomplishments and drive positive results. When Oladeji took the helm at the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, few could have anticipated the remarkable turnaround that would follow. Under his leadership, Zone A exceeded its 2024 revenue target by an astonishing 57.6%, transforming it into Nigeria's premier revenue-generating unit within the Customs Service. Faced with the challenge of operating without direct control over any major ports, Oladeji and his dedicated team set an ambitious approved revenue target of ₦569 million. Through strategic initiatives, heightened enforcement, and intensified anti-smuggling operations, they achieved a staggering revenue collection of ₦896 million. This achievement not only underscores Oladeji's exceptional leadership skills but also reflects his ability to innovate and maximize resources in a challenging environment. But Oladeji's impact wasn't just about the figures. It was about a total overhaul; changing the way things were done shattering off mediocrity. The days of violent clashes with smugglers are behind us. In their place is "Operation Swift Sting" – a smart, intelligence-driven strategy that blends the latest surveillance tech with good old-fashioned detective work. The outcomes have been nothing short of amazing: ₦18 billion worth of contraband seized, including 10,000 donkey skins valued at ₦8 billion that were just moments away from being illegally exported. One of the most telling seizures was the interception of 11,870 cutlasses, which sent shockwaves through criminal networks in the Southwest. This wasn't just a Customs operation; it was a proactive move to prevent potential violence. Other seizures read like a list of threats to national security: 50,000 bags of foreign rice that could harm local farmers, 191,000 litres of diverted PMS, 7,861kg of cannabis, and 37,630 doses of Tramadol – each interception a significant step against the forces undermining Nigeria's stability. What set Oladeji's approach apart wasn't just what he seized, but how he did it. His philosophy was refreshingly straightforward: "We don’t chase smugglers – we outsmart them." This mindset led to a revenue surge in July 2024, reaching ₦133 million, a 245% increase from the previous year, achieved not through brute force but through careful document checks and demand notices. It proved that brains are far more effective than brawn in customs operations. The House of Representatives Committee on Customs witnessed this transformation firsthand during their oversight visit. Committee Chairman Leke Abejide didn’t hold back: "What we've seen here redefines Customs excellence." In an organization often linked with controversy, Oladeji built something truly remarkable – a high-performance operation that resists corruption while balancing strict enforcement with community engagement. As Nigeria faces an economic crossroads, the Oladeji model offers more than just success stories; it provides a roadmap. A roadmap for how technology can outsmart smuggling networks. A roadmap showing that revenue generation and humane enforcement can go hand in hand. And, most importantly, a roadmap highlighting how visionary leadership can turn even the toughest government institutions around. With the Fourth Mainland Bridge and Lekki Deep Sea Port set to open soon, Oladeji's strategic position allows him to achieve even greater results. If he’s accomplished this much in just 15 months, imagine the possibilities if his innovative approach were applied nationwide. In a time that craves transformative leadership, Kola Oladeji has not only raised the bar for customs operations – he’s demonstrated what’s achievable when skill, creativity, and courage come together in Nigeria's public service. The takeaway is clear: Nigeria's fight for economic security doesn’t need more weapons – it needs more leaders like Oladeji. Leaders who recognize that true security comes not from guns, but from the smart use of law, technology, and, above all, principled leadership. A remarkable feat of Comptroller Oladeji ‘s tenure was the huge quantum of seizures recorded without firing a single shot at any Nigerian, nor recording a Protest of Nigerians. As his reforms gain national attention, one truth stands out: this is what happens when Nigeria's brightest minds are given the chance to serve.
