PoliticsAPC Group Slams Defence Minister Badaru Over Bye-election Loss, Demands Resignat by Newsextra014(op): 12:22pm On Aug 21, 2025
The Concerned Jigawa APC Forum (CJAF) has issued a scathing rebuke of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, branding his performance in the recent Garki-Babura Federal Constituency bye-election as a “catastrophic political failure” and a threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In a strongly worded press statement, the group demanded Badaru’s immediate resignation, citing his inability to secure votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his home polling unit and ward as evidence of his dwindling political influence.

The bye-election, held on August 17, 2025, saw the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deliver a stunning defeat to the APC at Badaru’s polling unit (001) in Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Jigawa State, with the PDP securing 308 votes to the APC’s 112.

The loss extended to Badaru’s ward, where the PDP also dominated at the polling unit of his ally, Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Suwaiba Ahmad, winning 184 votes to the APC’s 22.

The CJAF highlighted reports of Badaru’s supposed allies celebrating the PDP’s victories, raising concerns about disloyalty within his camp and suggesting active sabotage against the APC.

“After eight years as Jigawa’s governor and two years as a federal minister, Badaru’s inability to deliver for the APC in his home base exposes him as a political liability,” said Alhaji Usman Tanko, President of the CJAF.

“His allies’ jubilation over PDP wins confirms he is no longer on the ground in Jigawa, and his continued presence in the cabinet risks dragging President Tinubu’s administration into disrepute.”

Despite the APC’s overall victory in the constituency, with candidate Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki securing 38,449 votes against the PDP’s 13,519, the CJAF credited Governor Umar Namadi’s effective governance and grassroots support for salvaging the win.

The group’s statement warned that Badaru’s failure in a key APC stronghold like Jigawa signals a dangerous erosion of support in the North West, a critical region for the party’s national ambitions.

The CJAF passed a vote of no confidence in Badaru, declaring him unfit to represent the APC or hold high office.

“Badaru’s collapse in a stronghold like Jigawa signals a dangerous erosion of APC support in the North West, a critical region for the party’s national ambitions,” Tanko added.

“His continued presence in the cabinet risks dragging the Tinubu administration into further disrepute, as his allies’ flirtations with the PDP threaten to fracture party unity.

“We demand that Badaru resign immediately as Minister of Defence. His abysmal track record and inability to add value to the APC in Jigawa, the North West, or nationally make his position untenable.

“While he may maintain a personal friendship with Mr. President, Nigeria’s interests supersede any individual’s ambitions. The country is bigger than Badaru, and it is time for him to step aside and allow fresh, capable leadership to bolster the APC’s prospects.

“His resignation is not just a necessity for Jigawa but a critical step to safeguard the party’s chances in 2027.

“We commend Governor Namadi for his steadfast leadership and urge INEC to maintain the integrity of the electoral process, as demonstrated in the peaceful and transparent conduct of the bye-election.

“The people of Jigawa have spoken, and their rejection of Badaru’s influence is a clarion call for accountability. The APC must act decisively to restore trust and secure its future, both in Jigawa and across Nigeria.”

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the temporary freezing of four Jaiz Bank accounts linked to Mr Mele Kyari, the immediate-past Group Managing Director (GMD) of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), over allegations bordering on fraud.

“I found that this application is meritorious, and it is hereby granted as prayed,” he said. The judge adjourned the matter until Sept. 23 for report. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has accused Bayo Ojulari, the group chief executive officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, of lacking interest in fixing the Port Harcourt refinery.

On May 24, the NNPC shut down the refinery for maintenance.

In a statement on Monday, Sunny Nkpe, zonal chairman of PETROAN, eastern zone, expressed concern over the slow pace of activity at the old Port Harcourt refinery since its closure.

“The Port Harcourt refinery is key to the supply chain distribution of petroleum products all over Nigeria, supplying to major cities like Aba, Enugu, Makurdi, and other key states,” he said.

Nkpe called on “the GCEO of NNPC to give the Port Harcourt refinery top priority attention”, while urging President Bola Tinubu to direct immediate action to revive the facility.

He alleged that the delays seem to be driven by vested interests seeking to undermine the president’s vision.

PoliticsTinubu's Education Policy Will Boost Literacy In Nigeria By 100% - Lawmaker by Newsextra014(op): 8:15am On Aug 10, 2025
By 2031, Nigeria would have achieved 100 percent literacy level across the country, a Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Temitope Adedeji Adewale, has said.

Adewale, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I at the State House of Assembly, made the assertion after inspecting the screening session for the distribution of his free GCE forms to prospective candidates in Lagos on Saturday.

The lawmaker commended the Federal Government for the various initiatives aimed at pulling the youth off the streets and engaging them in meaningful ventures including education.

He noted that since the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) by the President Bola Tinubu administration, more Nigerians are eager for admission into tertiary institutions in the country.

"You see, Mr. President is doing everything possible to boost the literacy level in the country. And given the way the government is going, by the end of President Tinubu's second term in 2031, Nigeria will be boasting a 100 percent literacy rate and this would include resolving the issue of out-of-school kids," Adewale said.

As at April, 2025, NELFUND said over 500,000 students had applied for loans across Nigeria.

The lawmaker described the figure as encouraging adding that it would help the government with future projections.

"It also gladens the heart that the state governments continue to support the Federal Government with various initiatives. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended the graduation ceremony of 5,300 residents from the Lagos Skill Acquisition Programmes. This means 5,300 residents are off the labour market.

"We are giving out 400 forms this year. We also give out JAMB forms because we know that education remains the strongest tool we can use to change lives and shape the future.

"This programme is part of my promise to ensure no student misses an opportunity because of financial constraints. Our goal remains to make Ifako-Ijaiye the most educated local government in Nigeria by 2031," he said.

He said that through the Adewale Temitope Educational Initiatives (ATA-EI), he has given out over 8000 free GCE and JAMB forms so far with at least 120 students on scholarships in various tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

"This says a lot about the government's interest in the youth and, given another term with President Tinubu and our party in power, Nigerians will look back sometime in the future and thank God that we had this chance," he added.

Nairaland GeneralLagos Farmer Cries Out As Rolad Properties Withholds N3.15m Return On Investment by Newsextra014(op): 1:11pm On Aug 08, 2025
What was supposed to be a lucrative investment deal for Lagos-based farmer AdPaul Nowo has now turned into a frustrating three-month battle to recover his money from Rolad Properties & Allied Services Ltd.

Nowo told Newsextra that his ordeal began after he heard a Bond FM radio advertisement promoting an investment package by the Lagos-based real estate firm. The offer sounded straightforward:

The company retains 10% withholding tax on the RoI.

The farmer, who previously lived in Malaysia working on a plantation, had returned to Nigeria to focus on farming due to health issues affecting his lungs. With limited physical strength to farm on a large scale, the RoI was more than extra income it was a crucial financial lifeline.

A History of Deals with Rolad Properties

Nairaland GeneralHappy 65th Birthday To Abdul Samad Rabiu: Philanthropist, Billionaire, Nation Bu by Newsextra014(op): 4:57pm On Aug 04, 2025
Born August 4, sixty five years ago in Kano, Nigeria, the story of billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu is that of a man who, though born into wealth, has laboured assiduously to entrench himself as one of the wealthiest not only in the continent but the world at large.

As the African saying goes, it is one thing to be born, yet it is another to rebirth yourself. At a tender age, the young Abdul Samad knew the value of hard work and never relented despite the fact that he was born into wealth. It is therefore not a surprise that he transformed whatever he inherited from his parents into an empire that today boasts of many firsts.

For starters, Abdul Samad Rabiu’s BUA Group has been the largest private sector employer of labour in the Northwest part of the country for some years now.

With his cement factories rolling out tens of millions of tons of cement annually from its various Sokoto lines, and many other businesses you can hardly argue against this. The trickle down effect of the cement factories alone can only be imagined. From the truckers, to the loaders, to the drivers and factory hands not to talk of those who offer support services, the number of those who are touched by the foresight of the billionaire industrialist will definitely be much more than those directly employed

Two things have however distinguished the BUA industrial activities in Sokoto as well as many other parts of the country. One is the fact that conscious efforts are made to ensure that environment-friendly policies are put in place. For instance, it is on record that years back, Abdul Samad Rabiu signed agreements with foreign firms to diversify energy sources by introducing greener alternatives especially LNG to power the kiln and its power plant.

Speaking at the commissioning of one of his cement lines in Sokoto years back, the Chairman of BUA group revealed that his power plants were now running on 100% LNG leading to reduced carbon emissions. He also confirmed that this was the first of its kind at any cement factory in Nigeria.

According to him, ‘what this means also, is that as soon as the AKK gas project comes on stream, we are ready to be one of the first off-takers to satisfy our energy needs. This will also encourage further industrialization within the region, open new industries and ensure greater development and prosperity for this region and the nation in general’. Meanwhile, the AKK gas project is scheduled to be completed in a few months.

It is not only in terms of ensuring that the environment where he does business is well protected that BUA Group has led among its peers.

It is on record that in terms of assisting the community where it operates, the BUA Group also leads the way. Even before agitations start, it is a policy of the Group that efforts are made to find out the needs of these communities and they are attended to in such a way that the communities also see themselves as partners in progress.

Rather than seeing himself as an ultra -capitalist operating in a world where all that matters is getting richer, Abdul Samad Rabiu has consistently been at the vanguard of giving back to the society. To date, he is Nigeria’s most active philanthropist with hospitals, educational institutions, empowerment programmes for communities being his priorities. The vehicle for his philanthropic activities has been the ASR Africa.

The brainchild of African industrialist, philanthropist and Chairman of BUA Group, The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) was established in 2021 to provide sustainable, impact-based homegrown solutions to developmental issues affecting Health, Education and Social Development within Africa.

From Cameroun to Niger, to Nigeria, ASR Africa has been up and doing and you can hardly mention five states in Nigeria where ASR has not touched down.

Apart from personally touching the lives of the people, Abdul Samad Rabiu has also been at the vanguard of corporate policies aimed at making life more meaningful for the people.

Earlier this year he stressed his determination to work with other stakeholders to crash the price of rice. Before then, he had led the battle against middlemen who held the country to ransom over the price of cement. He led by example, reducing the prices of his products even when others were willing to maximize their profits.

As a sign of his belief in Africa and African initiatives towards solving our problems, he has consistently advocated that the government and the people of the continent should look inwards rather than waiting for outsiders to help develop the continent.

As the billionaire industrialist and philanthropist adds another year today, one can only wish him a befitting birthday and plead that he continues to do the good works by touching the lives of many more Nigerians.

BusinessFCMB In Hot Water Over Loan Scandal Involving YABATECH Staff — Bank Admits Fault by Newsextra014(op): 12:33pm On Aug 03, 2025
A staff member of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has accused First City Monument Bank (FCMB) of refusing to clear an additional N800,000 it forced on a loan he took, despite admitting the addition was an error.

The staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, told FIJ that he had written to the bank through his lawyer and had visited multiple branches since 2021, but the bank has failed to resolve the issue.

He said that after opening an account with FCMB in 2012, he took a loan and repaid between N41,000 and N65,000 monthly until August 2017, when he took a top-up loan of N750,000 and another N200,000 in 2019. According to the YABATECH employee, this was when the problem began.

He discovered discrepancies in his loan account in 2021, when his balance suddenly jumped from about N750,000 to N1.8 million, even though he had consistently paid N52,000 monthly up until that year.

The YABATECH staff member said he visited an FCMB branch in Mushin to make inquiries when he became convinced something was wrong. A lady in charge of loans confirmed there was a problem with his account and advised him to go to the Risk Management Department at the FCMB Ikeja office.

The source’s statement of account for August and September 2012 showing that he repaid his loan
“I went to Ikeja, but they referred me back to Mushin, saying someone named Mr Seun (who originally opened my account) was responsible. When I got back to Mushin, I was told that Mr Seun had travelled to America with his family,” he told FIJ.

Nairaland GeneralNiger State Drags Attorney-general To Supreme Court Over 13% Derivation by Newsextra014(op): 4:38pm On Jul 31, 2025
By Ebere Agozie

The Niger State government has dragged the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to the Supreme Court over omission in the 13 percent derivation.

In an originating summons sighted at the apex court, Niger state government through its counsel Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, seeks the interpretation and application of section 232 (1) & (2) of the Nigerian constitution.

The suit seeks the inclusion of Niger state in the 13 percent derivation as enshrined in the Enactment of Allocation of Revenue (Federation Account, etc.) Act, 2004.

He wants the court to determine whether Niger State does not qualify to be classified among the states that that produce natural resources and therefore entitled to thirteen percent derivation within the meaning of 162(2) of the 1999 constitution.

The subject matter of the suit is the failure of the federal government to include Niger State among the beneficiary states of the 13 percent derivation.

It is also about the omission of remitting same proceeds of fiscal revenue generated and accrued through Hydroelectric Power dams in Niger State, the territory and part of the resources of Niger State to the overall electricity generation to the national grid in Nigeria since 1968 till date.

Ndarani argued that the State hosts four major hydroelectricity dams: Kainji Dam, Jebba Dam, Shiroro Dam and Zungeru Dam, which serves as a power house for electricity supply to various states in Nigeria.

He also said that through these power stations, the Federal Government extends electricity supply to the Republics of Benin, Togo and Niger

He averred that the attorney-general was brought before the apex court because he has an oversight legal advice function over advising and representing the Accountant-General.

The Accountant-General has the constitutional role of preparing the Nation's Financial Statements arising from collection and receipts of income, fees, rentals and taxes and payment out of the Federation Account.

That the attorney general at all times is charged with legally advising and representing the Auditor-General of the Federation and the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission that oversees revenue accruing to, and disbursement of such funds from the Federation Account.

He said that the defendant represents and advises the president on all legal matters involving the functions of the president but has failed over the years in its duties.

This, according to him, should have been to ensure equitable distribution of resources in conformity with the current realities, particularly, in relation to the enormous fiscal revenue generated by Niger state.

The learned silk averred to the fact that Niger State is a purely agrarian state as the inhabitants are subsistence farmers whose produce are enjoyed across the state and beyond.

He noted that the fact that as a result of the large expanse of the land occupied by the dams, a large population of the citizens and residents of Niger State are denied the opportunity of engaging in agricultural activities.

He said that Niger state, host to the dams which were established in 1968 and have laid the golden eggs has been a victim of incessant and continuous flooding in recent years and still counting.

This has resulted in wanton loss of human lives and livestock as well as destruction of properties, leading unavoidably to displacement of many residents from their homes.

He claimed that Physicochemical/Microbiological Impact Assessment Report conducted by the state government showed the level of degradation in the affected areas.

This represents an impending danger that looms large in the horizon for the state over the coming years if urgent stringent environment protection measures are not taken.

To the chagrin, detriment, continuous exploitation and utter impoverishment of the people of Niger State, the defendant continuously and continually whisked off profits from the state.

The federal government should not be only concerned about benefiting from the dams located in the territory of the state without a care for its people.

He said that unfortunately the office of National Bureau of Statistics had no information on the volume of electricity by megawatts generated by the dams since 1968 and 2019, except for those of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

They gave the NBS’s computation of the volume of electricity by megawatts generated into the national grid from 2020 – 2023 as follows:

``The sum total megawatt generated in 2020 is equal to 2,232,706.27, 2021 equal to 2,632,348.00, 2022 equal to 2,830,002.96 and in 2023 equal to 2,658,612.96.

These dams have generated fiscal revenue which has been controlled by the federal government and have been indisputably redistributed equally amongst the constituent states without considering the host (Niger State) since 1968 till date.

Ndarani stated that Niger state and its citizens and residents suffer continuous exploitation, neglect and ravaging flood owing to the power generating activities of the federal government and its agencies.

Conversely, the federal government continues to enjoy the profits from the dams, leaving the state in penury and misery.

He added that the pitiable, miserable and hopeless plight of the Niger State indigenes and residents alike cannot be over emphasized

In spite of the misfortune of Niger state at the hand of the federal government, the federal government has also paid no attention whatsoever to the adverse environmental impacts of the activities of the power generating companies at the dams.

It is such a sorry state of affairs that not even the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has put any program in place to ameliorate the sufferings of Niger state’s citizens and resident

Nairaland GeneralConstitution Review: Some Judicial Amendment Proposals Lack Utilitarian Values – by Newsextra014(op): 6:42pm On Jul 24, 2025
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) JB Daudu says some of the judicial proposals submitted to the National Assembly for review lack utilitarian values.

Daudu made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.

``One of these proposals is the judicial resignation and succession protocol that regulates resignation procedures for Justices and Judges to avoid abrupt and destabilizing departures.

``This is a typical example of institutional idleness.

``How can these transfer mechanisms be observed in the event of sudden death, resignation as a result of grave illness or even sudden resignation as a result of compelling personal reasons?

``Such eventualities and their after effect cannot be regulated upon,’’ the learned silk added.

He argued that the proponents of this amendment lose sight of the fact that these courts are courts of record, and that it is not the Chief Judge or any other Head of Court that is the record keeper.

``Indeed, the records are kept by the chief registrar and his coterie of registrars and clerks, who are civil servants and are permanent features in the establishment’’.

He said that another wild goose chase proposal is that there should be mandatory National Judicial Council (NJC) investigations before the removal of heads of court.

``It is thought that there is a problem with the provisions of Section 292(1)(a)(i) &(ii) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which forbids the removal of judicial officers, especially heads of court, by Governors and Houses of Assembly without recourse first and foremost to NJC investigation.

``This proposal, it is thought, will institutionalize fair hearing rights, ensure due process, and insulate judicial officers from arbitrary removal’’.

He noted that the proposal is the most curious of the proposed amendments as it does not introduce any new position to the state of affairs.

``This is because Section 292(1)(a)(i) & (iì) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) already requires the input of the NJC before a head of court can be removed.

``The solution to acts of executive recklessness and lawlessness of attempts by governors to use their puppet houses of assembly to remove sitting chief judges is not because the present constitution does not forbid it.

``It is because of the attitudinal disposition of some governors to power. We will always have people who in their power drunkenness will interpret the constitution in ways and manner which suits their ego or political calculations.

``Consequently, amending the constitution in the manner suggested will not serve any useful purpose,’’ he added.

On the suggestion that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) should have an input in the removal of Judges, Daudu submitted that that proposal is a non-starter.

``It has already failed. This is because the only amendment needed is to allow the five members nominated by the NBA to participate in matters relating to the discipline of Judges.

``I have for years advocated for the removal of the provision in the constitution that limits lawyers from participating in the removal of judicial officers.``

He also frowned on any hindrances to judicial continuity and stability.

The proposal in this regard seeks to empower newly elevated judges to conclude part-heard criminal matters rather than starting afresh, thereby saving judicial time and avoiding injustice.

``The proposal ignores the practical realities, and the injustice associated with a judge who has left the services of a court and has taken the oath of office of another court hierarchy to return to the court he had been elevated from.

``It is submitted that no amount of constitutional amendment will cure that abnormality and aberration.

``It is better to defer the swearing in of an appointed or promoted judge until when he has completed all his part-heard matters than to cause such a judicial personnel to return to a court that he has exited from.

``No one seems to consider the psyche of all the parties concerned, no matter how it is couched’’.

He said that a constitution is a very serious document that should lay out the basic and indeed, fundamental rules for the governance of the country.

``It is not a factory manual on work and safety regulations. Our legislators should accord the constitution more seriousness than they are presently doing,’’ he said.

Nairaland GeneralConstitution Review: Ensure It Aligns With Democratic Best Practices, Stakeholde by Newsextra014(op): 10:34pm On Jul 18, 2025
By Ebere Agozie

Stakeholders in the judiciary sector have urged members of the National Assembly to ensure that the proposed constitution review aligns with democratic best practices.

They gave the charge at a one day Rule of Law Foundation Webinar Series No. 14, organized to address the problems of modern day Nigeria through Constitutional Amendment.

The event was to commemorate the 45th year anniversary of the call to the Nigerian bar and 30 years of conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on J B Daudu.

Daudu in his paper which he averred as his `Input As It Relates To The Ongoing Process Of Constitutional Ammendment, added that the review must also ensure historical lessons and the urgent need for public trust in Nigeria's legal system.

He noted that it is not the hood that makes the monk and that constitutional amendments do not guarantee an efficacious system.

``If the Nigerian elite are to be honest with themselves, they will readily agree that the reason for bad governance and corruption in Nigeria is not the nature of the constitution in view.

`It is the attitude of the leaders and those at the helm of authority to the basic principles of governance.

``I have always believed that a constitution is not what determines how a country is run. It is the honesty, the decency, the God-fearingness of the leaders.”

He reiterated that any constitution can be applied equitably and fairly, but when people want to use it to amass power, of course there's no way it will be fair.

``If the constitution is not properly applied, there's no way there will be justice and there's no way there will be peace,’’ he added.

The governor of Kogi State, Gov Usman Ododo added that it is imperative to stress the importance of constitutional amendment.

Ododo was represented by Muiz Abdullahi, SAN, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state.

He added that the need for an amendment in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized as some of the provisions of the constitution are no longer in tune with international best practices.

``Amendment of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is therefore crucial for the a number of reasons;

``To promote the rule of law by strengthening the independence of the judiciary, enhancing the protection of human rights and access to justice.

``To strengthen federalism in Nigeria, state governments should be made more independent by proper devolution of powers. More power should be devolved to state governments for rapid development across the country’’.

The governor urged that both federal and state governments should be allowed to legislate on issues that border on mining and so on, and he also addressed other provisions in the constitution that are capable of causing confusion or multiple interpretations.

``For example, who legislates on items not contained in either the exclusive or concurrent legislative list.

``We have to bring the constitution at par with changing times in order to align same with international best practices.

``The review should ensure that the constitution is a reflection of the aspirations as well as the needs of the citizens of the country for an efficient promotion of good governance and national development’’.

He, thereafter, congratulated Daudu for the milestone of celebrating greatness, success and outstanding impact in the legal provision in Nigeria and beyond.

PoliticsNew Tax Reform: Presidency Takes Public Sensitisation To Ibadan by Newsextra014(op): 8:32am On Jul 16, 2025
The Presidency on Tuesday held a grassroots sensitisation drive across key areas of Ibadan to educate citizens on the recently signed Tax Reform Bills and how the new policies directly impact the public.

Organised by the Presidential Community Engagement Office (South-West) in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the exercise focused on explaining the real-life benefits of the reforms to traders, transport workers, artisans, and small business owners.

The awareness drive, themed “Irọrun fún Mẹkúnù” (Relief for the Common Man), moved from Ojoo to Mokola Roundabout, using mobile banners, placards, sound systems, and multilingual materials to break down the core provisions of the tax reform.

Key messages included the exemption of low-income earners from personal income tax, reduced burden on small businesses, simplified payment processes, and improved revenue autonomy for state and local governments, creating more room for community-level development, infrastructure, and responsive governance.

Addressing journalists during the exercise, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-West), Moremi Ojudu, said the campaign was designed to ensure that everyday Nigerians are not left behind in conversations about reform.

“The tax reform is here to make life easier for every Nigerian. It affects market women, mechanics, students, commercial drivers, and everyone who earns a living. For instance, traders who used to face multiple levies from different sources can now breathe easier under a simplified system. Low-income earners no longer have to part with a portion of their small salaries, and small business owners can grow without fear of being overtaxed. We want people to understand how these changes support them, reduce pressure, and give them a fairer chance. This outreach is about clarity, not just compliance,” she said.

Residents across several markets and motor parks interacted with the outreach team and received educational materials in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin.

The sensitisation drive is part of a wider national effort to make the Renewed Hope Agenda a lived reality for citizens, especially those in underserved communities.

CrimeHow 5G Lounge Boardman Stabbed Customer To Death Over N 500 by Newsextra014(op): 4:24pm On Jul 13, 2025
A staff of 5G Lounge, Nyang Nyele, has stabbed a customer, Ahmed Monday Abdullahi, to death after an argument.

It was gathered that the ugly incident which happened penultimate Friday has thrown family and friends of the deceased into great grief.

The lounge which is owned by Elvis Uche is located on Road 16, New Road, Off Shell Location Ada George, Port Harcourt,

A friend of the deceased who witnessed the whole incident and who was with the deceased till the very end told News Hub that, “this ugly incident could have been avoided if the boardman was trained on how to interact with customers. It was an avoidable death, it was unnecessary, my friend should not have died” he wailed.

According to the eyewitness who identified himself as Daniel Akani, the events that led to the untimely death of his friend popularly known as Atela was based on the payment of 500 naira for playing snooker which the supervisor had earlier said should not be paid.

In his words, “I went to the bar as usual and met Atela there, I didn’t even know he was there until I got there and saw him. We sat down chatting as they were repairing the snooker board which we had complained about serval times. Once they were done, we tried playing but realised that it was not equal so we had to set it again. I tried to play but lost, my friend also lost as the board still needed adjustment but the supervisor said we should not worry about paying but should just set it.”

He however stated that Nyele, the boardman insisted on collecting money for the game and started harassing the deceased which almost resulted in fisticuffs.

“People around settled it and we sat down taking our energy drinks as we don't take alcohol. It was like 25 to 30 minutes later that the boardman appeared from nowhere with a kitchen knife and stabbed my friend on the neck twice in rapid succession,” Akani said.

It was gathered that the deceased was declared dead at the hospital while the Supervisor of the Lounge helped in detaining the alleged culprit until the police arrive.

PoliticsNdarani To NASS: Nigerians Deserve A Constitution That Speaks For Them by Newsextra014(op): 8:00pm On Jul 11, 2025
By Ebere Agozie

Abuja, July 11, 2025 (NAN) A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Ndarani, SAN has advised the National Assembly to ensure that the current constitution review reflects the views of the people.

Ndarani gave the advice during a press conference on Friday in Abuja.

He noted that developments in the country today justify the complete overhaul and comprehensive amendment to the 1999 constitution, which was only made as an annexure to a military decree.

He said that the current constitution has gone through five amendments and yet, it is generally believed that it could be much better.

``My stand has always been to draft a totally new constitution but if we must continue to tinker with the same document over and over again, it has to be thorough this time around.

``There have been many efforts to knock it into shape, but with very little success.

``The truth, however is that the constitution has to be fundamentally solid and take into account the special characteristics of the entity for which the document is being drafted’’.

He advised that the process must draw from the peculiarities of Nigeria, the demographics, ethnicity, economic structure as well as the many other variables that make up this complex society called Nigeria.

``There is therefore a great need for the National Assembly to make provision for a proper referendum prior to amendments to those critical areas of the constitution.

``This is what will give the said constitution or act the touch of the people, imbue it with much-needed legitimacy and bring the laws closer to the people and vice versa.

``Considering that the Zonal public hearings are already underway, the voice of the people should be heard to ensure a greater relevance and acceptability of the outcome.

``The world over, constitutions are amended to respond to socio-economic, cultural and political changes, so the amendment process must entail the mass participation of the people’’.

The senior lawyer said that no constitution is entirely good or completely bad. It is believed that it all depends on the people who apply and implement the provisions.

``It must be transparent, credible and rigorous enough to ensure that it is done in the interest of the people, and not to protect the personal interests of some individuals.

``In many instances amendments are seen as a means of protecting vested interests as power blocs see the process as a political poker game, rather than a democratic rearrangement to benefit all’’.

Ndarani noted that Nigeria is a state founded on the principles of democracy and social justice, emphasizing that sovereignty belongs to the people.

``It also mandates the participation of the people in their government as enshrined in Chapter II, Section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution.

``It explicitly states that the people of Nigeria hold sovereignty, and the government's powers and authority are derived from them.

``It equally ensures the participation of the people in their government through various means, as outlined in other sections and chapters’’.

He, therefore, wondered why the National Assembly removed some submissions of the people especially the one calling for a removal of the immunity clause.

``We are talking about fighting corruption at the highest places and they are refusing to allow debate on the removal of the immunity clause.

``Who told them to remove those submissions, was it the people? Removal of the mmunity clause is part of what the people want.

``The people want to be able to hold their leaders accountable and the removal of the immunity clause will help them gather evidence and prosecute erring leaders.

``We need naked justice. So, why did the National Assembly not allow the views of all the people who have submitted memoranda to be considered?”

He called on the National Assembly members to resist the urge to simply go, sit down in their houses and begin to handpick bills and memoranda according to their whims.

``They should allow whatever is the opinion of people on the people’s constitution to prevail.

``The drafters should listen more to the people and ensure that it is a national dialogue indeed, and a participatory constitutional reform process that reflects the aspirations of all Nigerians.

``The review should result in a responsive and efficient constitution that will address structural, fundamental and emerging issues within the Nigerian Federation.

``With the right constitution to guide the Nigerian nation, this country has the wherewithal to be one of the leading nations on earth,’’ he added.

“Let us put our heads and hands together to realize that greatness.”

The learned silk aligned himself with the indigeneship bill tabled by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

Kalu had proposed a bill to grant indigene status to individuals who have resided in a state for 10 years or married a native, which has ignited deep controversy across Nigeria.

``I see it as a progressive move for national unity. Nigerian citizenship is primarily defined in Chapter 3 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

``It outlines three ways to acquire citizenship as long as you meet certain requirement by law, one of which is that a person born in Nigeria is a citizen by birth if either of their parents or any of their grandparents is a citizen of Nigeria.

``Nigeria should be operating along global standards by now.

``For example, in the UK or USA once you are a citizen, you have the right to contest for an elective position in any part of the country where you reside.

``Nobody should be prevented from contesting for a position because his parents were not from a particular city, state or locale. Citizenship should take precedence over other mundane considerations’’.

He reiterated that the preamble to the constitution says that `we are one indivisible nation, once we are citizens of Nigeria.

``That means that you take a position based on citizenship in the state, not on indigeneship. And there should be no discrimination.

``This citizenship provision is saying that Nigeria is one indivisible nation. It is Nigeria first, before individuals.

``That bill is very, very good and I also lend my voice to it, because that should be the ideal situation.

``The constitution should have state citizenship: that is you know where you come from, but once you have your citizenship, like in the UK, nobody will ask you where you are from.

CrimeCourt Throws Out Unlisted Witness In Oak Homes CEO Olukayode Olusanya’s N152m Fr by Newsextra014(op): 10:36am On Jul 11, 2025
The ongoing trial of property developer Mr. Olukayode Olusanya before the Federal High Court in Lagos was on Wednesday stalled due to an objection raised against a prosecution witness who was not listed in the proof of evidence.

Olusanya, the Chief Executive Officer of Oak Homes Limited, is standing trial alongside his company on a four-count charge brought by the Nigerian Police Force. The charges include conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, fraud, and stealing.

The defendants were first arraigned on November 26, 2024, and both pleaded not guilty.

According to the police, Olusanya and the company’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Ms. Lynda Umeh (currently at large), allegedly defrauded Nigerian-American engineer Mr. Anthony Ugbebor of N152 million between November 8, 2017, and August 4, 2020. The alleged fraud involved the sale of two three-bedroom apartments at Oak Residence, Victoria Island, Lagos, with a promised delivery date of February 28, 2019. The apartments were never delivered.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the second prosecution witness, Mr. Shehu Yakubu, a stockbroker, testified before Justice Musa Kakaki. He recounted how he facilitated payments to Oak Homes on behalf of the complainant.

Yakubu stated that he was introduced to Olusanya in 2017 and was informed that two flats had been offered to Ugbebor on Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island. He told the court that the first payment of N85 million was made on November 21, 2017, into Oak Homes’ Zenith Bank account, while a second payment of N49.5 million was made on August 4, 2020, into the same account.

However, when proceedings resumed on Wednesday, an attempt by the prosecution to introduce its third witness, Mr. Seye Omodele, was challenged by defence counsel on the grounds that his name was not included in the original proof of evidence.

Mr. Adeleke Agboola (SAN), counsel to the first defendant, objected to the witness, citing procedural irregularities. Mr. Jude Ehiedu, representing the second defendant, supported the objection, stressing that the defence should not be ambushed with unlisted witnesses.

In response, Chief Superintendent of Police Monday Omo-Osagie, who is prosecuting the case, apologised to the court and explained that he had sent the witness’s statement for filing but was unaware it had not been submitted. He requested an adjournment and permission to regularise the witness.

AgricultureToxic Harvest: Nigerian Farmers Raise Alarm Over Harmful Pesticides Amid Weak Re by Newsextra014(op): 9:15pm On Jul 10, 2025
By NEWSEXTRA Reporter | In collaboration with the Alliance for Action on Pesticides in Nigeria (AAPN)

During a recent field research mission by NEWSEXTRA, supported by the Alliance for Action on Pesticides in Nigeria (AAPN), our correspondent, Adeyemi Obadimu, met with a female local farmer, Sanni Olayemi, based in Abule Egba, Lagos State, has expressed deep concern and dissatisfaction over the continued use of chemical pesticides in farming practices within her community. In an emotional recount of her personal experience, Olayemi shared the serious health challenges she faces each time she applies these chemicals on her farm.

"Each time I use pesticide chemicals, whether I cover my nose or not, I always end up with severe headaches and flu-like symptoms that can last for up to three days and sometimes even stretch into a whole week," she lamented.

According to her, the harmful effects of these substances are taking a toll on her health and well-being. Despite this, she explained that many local farmers, including herself, have no option but to continue using chemical pesticides due to the lack of alternatives or proper training in organic farming methods.

"We don't know which pesticide is safe and which one is dangerous. We just use whatever we can afford or what’s available in the market," she explained. "Until we have access to agricultural experts or organizations that can teach us how to practice organic farming, we will be left with no choice but to keep using these harmful chemicals no matter the risks."

Her plea highlights the urgent need for awareness, government intervention, and the introduction of sustainable, eco-friendly farming practices at the grassroots level. Farmers like Sanni Olayemi represent a growing number of agricultural workers in Nigeria who are unknowingly putting their health at risk due to inadequate knowledge and limited access to safer farming alternatives.

In a similar voice of concern, Ogochukwu Okoye, a vegetable farmer and trader, has revealed the difficult reality faced by small scale female farmers who are forced to rely on chemical pesticides despite knowing the health and environmental risks involved.

Speaking candidly, Okoye admitted that although she is fully aware of the hazards associated with the use of pesticides, she has no alternative but to use them to ensure her crops survive and mature quickly.

“We don’t have any other option. The pesticide is the only thing that helps our plants grow faster and protects them from pests,” she explained. “We know it’s not healthy, but we have to survive. It’s either we use it or risk losing the entire harvest.”

Okoye went further to explain the added pressure of having to sell her vegetables almost immediately after harvest due to the short shelf life of chemically treated produce.

“If I don’t finish selling them on the first day—or at the latest, the second day—the vegetables start changing colour and losing their freshness. By the third day, they become unattractive and unfit for sale,” she said. “That’s how fast the pesticide works on the produce. It may make it grow faster, but it doesn’t last.”

Her account underscores a deeper issue of systemic neglect. According to Okoye, female farmers are especially left out when it comes to government support, training, and empowerment programs.

“Government is not doing anything to help us, especially we women in farming. We have no access to organic alternatives, no training, no subsidies nothing,” she lamented. “If we had the right support, we would not be relying on these harmful chemicals.”

Ogochukwu Okoye’s experience reflects a larger crisis in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, where grassroots farmers are struggling with poor access to information, lack of institutional support, and a heavy dependence on chemical inputs. Her story calls for urgent government intervention to introduce safer farming practices, provide access to organic alternatives, and support female farmers through education and financial assistance.

Furthermore, Mr. Ibrahim Akanbi, a farmer from Ibogun in Ekundayo Power Line, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, shared his bitter experience with the use of chemical pesticides. According to him, most of the chemicals not only damaged his crops but also caused unexpected losses in his fish farming business. He explained that the moment he applied chemical products to the soil, the fishes in his nearby pond began to die, resulting in significant financial loss.

Mr. Akanbi, who engages in both crop cultivation and fish farming, recalled that the year he tried using chemical pesticides, none of his crops yielded well. He added that his customers even complained about the quality of the produce, with some threatening to stop buying from him altogether due to the poor results.

He stressed that traditional farming methods practiced in the past were far more effective and safer than today’s chemical-based farming. According to him, not only do these chemicals harm crops and aquatic life, but they also pose serious health risks to humans. Mr. Akanbi used the opportunity to appeal to the government for support in the form of financial aid and access to safe, organic fertilizers, emphasizing that farmers depend on their produce for both their livelihood and the sustenance of the general public.

Reacting to the continued use of pesticides among Nigerian farmers, particularly those that have been banned internationally, A Lagos state Farmer in an interview with NEWSEXTRA,
Otunba Dr. Adegbenro Ogunlana, Secretary General of Agbekoya Worldwide, expressed strong disapproval and called for a return to indigenous agricultural practices rooted in natural methods.

According to Otunba Ogunlana, many of the so-called fertilizers and pesticides being imported into Nigeria are not only ineffective but also dangerous. “These so-called fertilizers are not fertilizing,” he said. “They are damaging our soil, our food, and ultimately our people. Nigeria is richly blessed with natural resources that serve the same purpose if not better than these foreign chemicals.”

He stressed that Nigeria is not meant to follow the path of heavily industrialized agricultural countries that rely on synthetic inputs to force crop growth. “God created Nigeria with fertile land and favorable climate. We have all we need to farm without harmful chemicals,” he said. “We have cows that defecate anywhere, and even humans contribute to the organic cycle. What people now call ‘manure’ or ‘organic fertilizer’ is what we’ve had naturally for centuries. Our soil is already enriched by nature.”

Otunba Ogunlana also noted that Nigeria’s traditional planting calendar aligns with natural soil fertility cycles. “We have specific seasons for corn, beans, bananas, and others, and during those times, natural fertilizers have already taken effect,” he explained. “In the past, if bananas weren’t ripe on time, we simply used local methods—like using ‘camped’ leaves to cover them and ripen naturally. We didn’t rely on artificial ripeners or chemicals.”

Linking the rise in modern diseases to chemical use in agriculture, the Agbekoya leader warned of serious health consequences. “We didn’t have all these cancer cases during our forefathers’ time. The disease was rare, if not unheard of. It’s not a communicable disease; it’s largely a result of what we’re putting into our bodies through chemically grown food,” he said. “As a medical doctor myself, I can say confidently that many of these chemicals are behind the rising health issues we are seeing, but I won't go deeper because there are regulatory associations guiding medical disclosures.”

He added, “We’re the ones searching for what we didn’t lose. Instead of building on what God gave us naturally, we’re importing poisons and calling them solutions. It’s time we retrace our steps and embrace organic, traditional farming practices.”

Adeyemi Obadimu also met with a local farmer, Mr. Gbenga Shaba, in Lufuwape Town, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. In a candid interview, Mr. Shaba voiced deep concerns about the ongoing use of harmful and internationally banned pesticides among Nigerian farmers.

Mr. Shaba, who has been farming in the area for years, acknowledged the importance of pesticides in modern agriculture, especially in Nigeria where agriculture remains a cornerstone of the economy and food security. “Pesticides help us fight off pests, weeds, and diseases that destroy our crops,” he said. “Without them, many of us would lose large portions of our harvests.”

He explained that pesticides such as insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides are essential for improving yields and ensuring a steady supply of food in the face of rising population pressures. “Many of us are small-scale farmers without access to modern equipment,” he added. “Pesticides help us survive and make some profit.”

However, he expressed grave concern about the types of chemicals still being circulated and used across Nigerian farms. “It’s sad and scary that chemicals like Paraquat, Chlorpyrifos, Atrazine, and Carbofuran are still being sold openly, even though other countries have banned them for health and environmental reasons,” Mr. Shaba lamented.

While explaining the health challenges, he said the health implications of these banned substances, he noted, are far-reaching. “Farmers are getting sick, some are even dying slowly. These chemicals don’t just affect us on the farm they contaminate the food people eat,” he said. “They poison the soil, pollute the rivers, and kill beneficial insects and animals. Over time, the land loses its fertility and the pests become resistant, making things worse.”

Another reaction by a Lagos State seasoned Farmer Ambassador John Adekorede Aderibigbe, the National Chairman of Nigeria Agricultural Commodity Practitioners (NACP), during a physical interview with NEWSEXTRA, revealed that the unregulated use of pesticides among Nigerian farmers is largely due to duplicated functions among regulatory bodies and poor enforcement of safety standards.

Aderibigbe, who is also a practicing farmer and agricultural consultant with over 16 years of experience in fertilizer importation, said Nigeria’s agricultural system was traditionally organic before the emergence of crude oil. According to him, in the past, Nigerian farmers relied on natural methods such as ashes (eru in Yoruba), animal dung, and spoilt crops like tomatoes and fruits to nourish the soil and protect crops.

He noted that today's widespread reliance on synthetic agrochemicals has introduced dangerous health and environmental risks. While reacting to the growing presence of harmful pesticides in Nigerian markets, Aderibigbe said this development stems from a lack of coordination between agencies like the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

He explained that a department within NAFDAC called VMAP (Veterinary Medicines and Allied Products) is responsible for screening and regulating pesticides being imported into the country. However, he lamented that some importers now bypass NAFDAC by going directly to the Ministry of Agriculture’s Fertilizer Department, which issues memos without the required laboratory testing or health risk assessments.

Aderibigbe pointed out that this situation has allowed unapproved and dangerous chemicals, many of which are banned in other countries, to enter and circulate in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

“These pesticides are not just harmful to pests; they leave behind residues in crops that humans consume, which has led to an increase in health problems like cancer, kidney stones, and other chronic diseases,” he said.

He cited countries like Thailand, which have shifted to organic pest and weed control methods, using environmentally friendly techniques such as the use of ducks for weed control instead of chemicals.

Aderibigbe stressed that beyond health, these chemicals also affect the quality and shelf life of food. He said that in the past, vegetables such as carrots and fruits like watermelon could stay fresh for longer periods, but now, even common vegetables like spinach (Efo) lose their freshness and spoil within a day.

He said the growing health crisis caused by agrochemical residues in food demands urgent action from the Nigerian government, particularly in the area of regulatory harmonization and enforcement. According to him, NAFDAC used to be feared by importers due to its strict enforcement, but now, many bypass its process by getting approvals from the Ministry of Agriculture.

He warned that many chemicals being imported into Nigeria today are produced solely for export, as they are banned in the manufacturers' home countries due to health risks. “They can't use these chemicals in their own countries, so they export them to us where the regulations are weak,” he said.

Aderibigbe called for a national sensitization campaign to educate farmers on the dangers of using harmful agrochemicals, and for government agencies to work in unity, ensuring only tested and approved inputs are allowed into the Nigerian market.

He concluded by stressing that food safety and public health must be prioritized in the interest of national development and future generations.

Meanwhile Mr. Jimoh Boniface revealed that in his over 30 years of farming, he has never used chemical pesticides on his crops. According to him, he inherited traditional farming methods from his forefathers, and he has consistently practiced organic farming, relying solely on manual tools such as cutlasses and hoes.

“I have never used any of those pesticides they talk about. Everything I plant grows naturally, and they always come out healthy,” he stated.

Our team physically inspected some of his crops on the farm and confirmed their healthy appearance, further validating his claim of successful natural farming.

Mr. Boniface, however, expressed concern about the increasing physical strain that comes with traditional methods, especially as he grows older. He noted that the aging body can no longer endure long hours of labor without support.

“We need the government to assist us, especially financially, and with access to good fertilizers. We are getting old and can’t work like before,” he pleaded.

He emphasized that the little income generated from farming is what he and other local farmers rely on to feed their families and send their children to school.

“We are not asking for too much. Just some financial support and training on organic methods will go a long way in improving our lives and sustaining safe farming practices,” he added.

Mr. Boniface account highlights the resilience of traditional farmers and the urgent need for government intervention to support a shift toward sustainable and health-conscious agriculture in Nigeria.

Getting reaction from Secretary General of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Dr. Godfrey Nwosu, offered a more institutional perspective on the matter. While acknowledging concerns about pesticide use, Dr. Nwosu defended the regulatory process that oversees the introduction of agricultural chemicals into the country. saying they are in the best position to know the chemicals that are good or not.

“Before any pesticide or agrochemical is allowed for use in Nigeria, it must first pass through a rigorous assessment by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture,” Dr. Nwosu stated. “These experts evaluate whether such chemicals are suitable for our soil and climate. Not everything that works in foreign soil is compatible with Nigeria’s ecosystem.”

Dr. Nwosu emphasized that the ministry considers both the safety and efficacy of chemicals before giving approval. “There are regulatory frameworks in place to ensure that only products that meet our local agricultural needs and health standards are allowed,” he said. “We trust that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has the knowledge, experience, and data to make those determinations better than individual farmers or even associations.”

He, however, urged continuous review and enforcement of regulations to prevent the infiltration of banned or substandard products into local markets. “What we need is stronger enforcement at our borders and marketplaces. Smuggling and unregulated sales are the real threats,” he said.

In conclusion, Both leaders, while approaching the issue from different angles, agree on one thing: the health of the Nigerian soil and people must take precedence. While Otunba Ogunlana champions a return to organic, traditional methods rooted in indigenous wisdom and natural cycles, Dr. Nwosu supports a regulated, evidence-based approach to ensure that any agricultural chemicals in use are safe and appropriate for local conditions.

PoliticsLagos State Railway Corporation, Energy Corporation Bills Scale Second Reading by Newsextra014(op): 9:00pm On Jul 08, 2025
The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday took a significant step toward enhancing the State’s transportation and energy sectors, as two crucial bills – The Lagos State Railway Corporation Bill and The Ibile Energy Corporation Bill – scaled second reading during plenary.

Leading the debate on the railway bill, the Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams, sponsor of the bill for a 'Law to Establish The Lagos State Railway Corporation, To Improve Railway Transportation System and For Connected Purposes', stated that the proposed legislation would make history in the State’s transportation development.

He referenced the Fifth Alteration No. 65 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which moves railway transportation from the Exclusive to the Concurrent Legislative List, thereby empowering states to legislate on the matter.

If passed, Lagos would become the first state in Nigeria to establish a Railway Corporation.

Hon. Adams highlighted the objectives and structure of the private-member bill, noting that Section 2 emphasizes the provision of effective and reliable railway services across Lagos State.

He added that Section 4 establishes a Governing Board tasked with overseeing the Corporation’s operations, while Sections 5 to 14 elaborate on the board’s powers, roles, and responsibilities.

The bill also outlines the Corporation’s powers in planning, infrastructure development, funding strategies, and ensuring transparency and accountability through proper auditing processes.

“This bill will set a standard comparable to global best practices.

“With South Africa leading in Africa with a 20,926 km railway network and Nigeria currently at 3,798 km, Lagos – as Africa’s second-largest city economy after Cairo – must take the lead in innovative rail transport solutions," Hon. Adams said.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, while commending the sponsor and reiterating the essence of the bill, noted that the global trend is toward deregulation and privatization of public corporations.

“Governments are embracing partnerships and privatization to enhance efficiency. We must consider aligning with that trend," he advised.

The bill was subsequently committed to the House Committee on Transportation, with a directive to report back in two weeks.

The Speaker also committed the Energy Corporation bill to the Committee on Energy with a mandate to report back to the House in two weeks.

CrimeCustomers Cry Out As PWAN Group Allegedly Fails To Allocate Land More Than 10 Ye by Newsextra014(op): 12:58pm On Jul 02, 2025
PWAN Group, a Lagos-based real estate company, has been accused by several customers of failing to allocate their purchased landed properties, despite payments made and receipts issued over a decade ago.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) by popular influencer Scot Iguma, multiple customers shared accounts of their experiences during transactions with PWAN Group.

One of the victims narrated that she bought a piece of land from the company in Asaba in 2021 but has yet to receive the property or a refund. She stated that after failed attempts to recover her investment, she took the company to court—only to be misled into withdrawing the case.

“As it is now, PWAN has made me lose so many things. I wrote a petition against them and had them arrested last year. They really scammed me. What they do is, when you drag them, they send you an allocation letter and paper. They've done this twice, and I kept spending money. But when I asked for the deed and survey plan, they said the property had issues. They then took me to another location, and another issue came up.
