The event is scheduled to hold on May 16, 2026, at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, Lagos State, and is expected to attract thousands of participants drawn from the Council’s growing membership base across the region. Speaking ahead of the event, Ambassador Kosile-Kolawole Oluwafolake Princess, a Board Member of GAC, stated that the programme is designed to consolidate the group’s presence in the Southwest while reinforcing its commitment to national development and political stability. According to her, the highlight of the event will be the formal endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. By: Bashorun Oladapo Sofowora To dazzle in the Nigerian public service sector, you need more than just doing the extraordinary, you must do what no one has ever done. For Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), possessing the heart of Hercules, the fearlessness of Achilles, the grace of Terpsichore, the memory of Macaulay, and the hide of a rhinoceros is what made him stand out to become the poster boy of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Give it to him: highly witty, cerebral, and dutiful. Zacch didn't earn his current position by fluke; he attained his height with sheer dint of hard work, resilience, self-belief, foresight, and a can-do spirit. Today, the NRS has been given a new face, the era has changed and the narrative has been rewritten. All thanks to the Oyo State-born outstanding technocrat. Since he assumed office as Executive Chairman, one thing has remained constant; his drive for innovative change and his commitment to ensuring taxpayers are seen as partners in progress rather than foes. Adedeji understands that taxpayers must be treated with dignity and must be made to understand their role as stakeholders, partners in progress and development. This special preference has ensured that tax collection is more simplified, more robust, and more engaging. When Adedeji assumed the chairmanship of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in September 2023, the agency was less a revenue service and more a leaky sieve. The nation's tax-to-GDP ratio was an embarrassment, public trust was a phantom, and the treasury gasped for air. But Adedeji, a resounding technocrat with the soul of a warrior looked upon this chaos and saw a canvas. His creed was immediate and uncompromising; more than just words, but action. Within twenty-four months, he has not merely reformed an institution; he has incinerated the old order and birthed a leviathan; the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS). This is the story of a man who taught a nation how to pay its way into sheer prosperity. Adedeji is armed with the philosophy that taxing the fruit, not the seed, is the way to grow as a nation. When he assumed his current role, he rejected the notion that increasing revenue required burdening struggling businesses. Instead, he focused on plugging leakages and widening the net to ensure all taxable citizens perform their civic obligations for the development of the country. With this philosophy, the results were almost immediate and stunning. In 2023, despite assuming office mid-year, the FIRS collected ₦12.36 trillion, surpassing its target of ₦11.55 trillion. That was just the warm-up act. In 2024, the agency delivered a monumental ₦21.7 trillion a 76% jump against a target of ₦19.7 trillion. Between September 2023 and August 2025, the Service realized a cumulative ₦46 trillion in total tax revenue, representing 115% of combined targets. These were not accidents of the economy; they were the direct results of strategic action carefully played and curated by the Tax Man himself. Zacch's exceptional ability to steer Nigeria's fiscal ship towards stability is akin to a skilful sailor navigating treacherous murky waters, with demonstrable efficiency, culminated in Nigeria reaching a historic milestone of ₦28.2 trillion in revenue in 2025. As the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) sets its sights on 2026 with an ambitious goal of ₦40.7 trillion, the role of technological innovation becomes increasingly vital. Adedeji recognized that overcoming the entrenched "tin bucket" mentality, an overreliance on manual collection methods required deploying advanced, reliable digital tools that minimized human contact, thereby reducing opportunities for corruption and errors. He led the successful automation of over 80% of manual processes through the implementation of the TaxPro-Max platform, which streamlined taxpayer registration, documentation, and filing procedures, significantly reducing processing times. The rollout of the e-invoicing system mandated that corporations with turnovers exceeding ₦5 billion digitize all transactions, thereby eliminating VAT evasion at the source and fostering transparency. Within weeks of deployment, major corporations such as MTN Nigeria, Huawei Technologies Nigeria, and IHS Nigeria had onboarded the system, signaling broad industry acceptance. A notable innovation was the nationwide launch of the USSD code *829#, a groundbreaking service allowing citizens to access tax-related information, file returns, and make payments directly via mobile phones without internet connectivity effectively democratizing tax compliance across all socio-economic strata. These initiatives transformed the Nigeria Revenue Service from a traditionally intimidating enforcement agency into a modern, efficient service platform that emulates leading 21st-century tax collection models. Building on this foundation, the NRS introduced the Rev360 platform an advanced, integrated, and intelligent ecosystem representing the next phase in the evolution of tax administration. Rev360 embodies the principles of Tax Administration 3.0, characterized by comprehensive automation, real-time analytics, and seamless integration of tax processes within taxpayers' everyday systems. This strategic shift promises faster processing times, enhanced decision-making capabilities, improved compliance rates, and an overall improved user experience. Taxpayers will benefit from a broader array of interaction options, including digital channels, mobile apps, and self-service portals. The launch of Rev360 aligns with the broader digital transformation strategy under the leadership of Zacch Adedeji PhD, the Executive Chairman of the NRS, whose visionary approach continues to propel innovations in service delivery and institutional strengthening. The platform's deployment reflects the Service's unwavering commitment to enhancing institutional capacity, fostering greater taxpayer confidence, and aligning with international best practices and technological standards. Following a successful pilot phase, the phased rollout of Rev360 will begin with Medium and Emerging Taxpayers, representing the first stage of comprehensive nationwide adoption aimed at creating a resilient, transparent and efficient tax system for Nigeria. To ensure action is taken not by mere words alone, Dr. Adedeji knew that lasting change and stability required a new legal framework and laws guiding tax compliance in the country. This enabled him to lead the charge to dismantle the archaic, colonial-era tax laws that had stifled growth by taxing the poor rather than taxing prosperity. This led to the legislative transformation of laws signed into force in 2025 and effective from the 1st of January 2026: the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 (NTA), the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 (NTAA), the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2025 (JRBA), and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025 (NRSA). These laws harmonized over 60 disparate tax statutes into a single framework to ensure adherence and unification. To prevent controversies and wrong narratives from being peddled by naysayers, Adedeji assured Nigerians that the laws are pro-poor, exempting those earning ₦800,000 or less annually from Personal Income Tax and removing VAT on essential items to protect the most vulnerable. In a bid to show his wizardry beyond being a brilliant chap, Adedeji led one of the most impressive transition and rebranding processes in the country. He executed the transition from FIRS to NRS with distinct surgical precision, ensuring that operational guidelines were ready and that staff were trained for the new mandate. The transition was so seamless that almost all Nigerians pivoted to the change without struggling. Same brand core values, different name, and a more formidable identity. The rebranding was more than a name change; it represented a paradigm shift from a "Federal" collector to a unified "National" revenue hub, aiming to harmonize collections across all tiers of government to ensure effectiveness, bring relief from multiple taxation, and allow government agencies to focus on their core mandates while leaving revenue collection to the NRS. Zacch obviously detests wastage; seeing wastage bores him. That is why he reignited the abandoned NRS building, breathing fresh life into it after 30 months in charge. The recently commissioned NRS Headquarters will ensure a lasting legacy, also corroborating the transition from FIRS to NRS. The new edifice is beyond magnificent. The 16-floor, tastefully built structure can pass as the ninth wonder of the world. As a man of style and taste, Zacch ensured the environment was inviting for everyone who comes in for any tax-related transaction. The three-tower complex is a world-class edifice designed to house 3,000 staff, complete with a data processing center, a clinic, an auditorium, and a gym. It is indeed a jaw-dropping building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure seamless navigation and maximum output. At the opening ceremony on the 14th of April, Adedeji paid tribute to President Tinubu, declaring him "the greatest gift bestowed on this republic." He noted that the headquarters symbolizes that reform is "not abstract, but real; not theoretical, but implemented." The auspicious event was attended by the Senate President, the Speaker of the House, and numerous governors, signaling rare political consensus on the importance of revenue reform. For the building commissioning, Zacch can be called a jinx breaker and a record setter. Calling him both places him on a pedestal of immortality. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji has answered the question posed by his own mantra: "More than just words, but action." He has taken a bureaucracy often viewed with suspicion and turned it into the vanguard of economic renewal. From the digits of ₦46 trillion in revenue to the concrete of a 16-story headquarters, from the virtual code *829# to the legal text of the NRS Act, Adedeji has left no room for doubt. Indeed, he has outdone himself, leaving a lacuna that anyone after him might struggle to fill. He did not merely build an institution that demands taxes; he built one that enables prosperity. As Nigeria marches toward a future of fiscal self-sufficiency, it does so on the solid foundation of actions taken by a quiet, determined reformer who proved that in governance, what you do will always speak louder than what you say. As the sun sets, and birds chirping over the new NRS headquarters, casting long shadows across the skylines of Abuja, one fact remains indisputable: in the battle for Nigeria's economic soul, words have failed, long speeches have faded into oblivion, but Zacch Adelabu Adedeji brought action infused with a monument. The era of talk is over, the era of the Alchemist has just begun.

“In a land starved of vision, even the barely capable are crowned as kings.” With this striking illustration, Chairman of the Egba Agenda Forum, High Chief Mustapha Abdulakeem Owolabi (MAO), has condemned the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State. In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Owolabi described the development as a “quiet and almost shameful orchestration,” insisting that the process reflects calculated imposition rather than the genuine will of the people. According to him, while Yayi may have found political footing in Ogun about six years ago through Yewa, his elevation as a statewide consensus candidate without what he termed “a true test of popular mandate” raises fundamental concerns about the state of democracy in Ogun. “This is not democracy; it is orchestration,” Owolabi declared. The Egba Agenda Forum chairman further alleged that the move represents a stepping stone in a broader political design, suggesting that Ogun State risks becoming an extension of entrenched political influence beyond its borders. He argued that the ambition behind the arrangement is “structured, patient and deliberate,” warning that such consolidation threatens the independence of the state’s political space. Owolabi blamed past administrations for laying the groundwork for what he described as the recycling of failure. He accused previous leaders of governing “without building,” entrenching poverty, weakening institutions and replacing sustainable development with dependency. “The next generation has learned the system too well,” he said. “They understand that you don’t need to fix the people; you only need to manage them.” He criticized what is often presented as empowerment programmes, describing them as tools of control rather than genuine development initiatives. According to him, with education weakened, healthcare struggling, infrastructure decaying and debt mounting, citizens are left vulnerable to “small relief packages and symbolic gestures” that replace accountability with gratitude. “This is not progress. It is recycling failure,” the statement read. The Forum also expressed concern over what it called the systematic weakening of opposition parties, alleging that fractured and destabilized opposition voices leave citizens with “no real alternative only the illusion of choice.” “True democracy thrives on vibrant, credible opposition. It demands competition, accountability and the constant testing of ideas,” Owolabi stated. “What we are witnessing is a slow drift toward political monopoly disguised as consensus.” He further criticized former aspirants and political actors who, according to him, have abandoned principles in a bid to secure appointments and remain in the good graces of the “anointed.” “Principles abandoned, convictions traded, ambition preserved at all costs. Shameful is an understatement,” he said. Owolabi warned that the situation sends the wrong message to emerging political leaders, who he fears are being trained to perfect the same political playbook rather than inspired to chart a new course. “A nation cannot rise on manipulation. A people cannot thrive on crumbs,” he added. Concluding his statement, the Egba Agenda Forum chairman called on Nigerians to reflect deeply on the direction of the country’s democracy. “‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ but surely, this cannot be the nation our forefathers envisioned, nor the system they hoped to build. If this cycle is not broken, then the future is already compromised. May Nigeria find the courage to demand more.”

The Baale of Ajebowale Orugbo community, High Chief Alakada Oluwatoyin has cried out against an impersonation activity against him by one Jamiu Ogunlaro, who has been reportedly terrorizing the community by sending populace off their landed properties. According to the Baale, Jamiu Ogunlaro is laying claims to his title in order to extort people, take over landed properties and sell them to unsuspecting victims. He revealed that there is evidence in receipts which he has used to transact business while claiming to be the Baale of the community. He explained that Jamiu’s father leased a landed property in the community for about 55 years and is currently owing but the impersonator is currently claiming to own all the landed properties in Ajebo community, and has killed several people who dared stand in his way. “Jamiu Ogunlaro is impersonating me, and there are evidences to back it up and the receipts he uses to extort people, we have it. We also have ID cards of the boys he used to carry out his operations. “His father leased 7 plots of land for 55 years which elapsed in 1996, and the lawyer of the community wrote to them to pay what they owe for since 1996 but they didn’t answer him till now. It’s been thirty years now without any payment, and we are in court on that. “When we go to the police station, they would drop the case, but when they take our people to police station, the police act. “I became Baale in 2024 and ordained by Lagos state government, I have my certificate here, but because he calls himself Baale, everyone starts running whenever he comes around. Before now, if you wanted to enter our community, they would stop you on the road to ask of where you are going. “Imagine him saying his father owns Ajebo, and when they got to court, he claimed his father was from Ikongba, and the lawyers asked him the same which he attested to coming from Ikonga. We will be resuming hearing soon, but the thing is, when he goes to court, they always team up with the DPP to step out of the case down sometimes.” Also, a family member of the Ogunlaro community stated that Jamiu’s claims to landed properties is wrong because his father never bought the land, but only leased it. He revealed that he had been threatened openly by Jamiu and his cohorts. “I’m part of the Ogunlaro family. It is not only the family that owns the landed properties in Ajebo, there are several families that own landed properties there. Jamiu is just covetous, and the land he is claiming is even on the other side of Ajebo, not the places he is currently claiming. He is threatening people too much, and I have also been threatened openly by some of his boys.” Likewise, One of the victims of Jamiu, Olasumbo, made it known that Jamiu had sent boys to beat her blue-black on her father’s property in Ajebo community. She indicted police officers to conniving with Jamiu to wreak havoc in the community. “Three years ago, Jamiu started claiming his father owns Orugbo and Ajebo, and this has led to the death of several people. We thought it was small but it led to a big issue. The police officers in Agbowa are also working with him because they have arrested several of our children in the community” Reacting to the allegations, Mr. Jamiu Ogunlaro firmly denied ever parading himself as the Baale of Ajebo or extorting members of the community. “I have never presented myself as the Baale of Ajebo, and I have never extorted anyone in the village. All the allegations against me are completely false,” he stated. He further alleged that contrary to claims that he brought thugs into the community, he was the one attacked. “I did not bring thugs to the community. Rather, some individuals invaded my house and destroyed many of my personal belongings. I am the victim in this situation,” he said. Ogunlaro added that the matter is already before the court, noting that multiple cases have been filed against him. “This issue is already in court. In fact, I have been charged in eight different courts over the same matter. So, I believe the proper place to determine the truth is before the judiciary,” he explained.

The Founder of Jehovah Eye Salvation Ministry, Prophet Godwin Ikuru, has called for an end to violence and insecurity across Nigeria, urging citizens to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the cleric said national unity and stability remain critical to Nigeria’s sustained progress. He commended President Tinubu’s leadership since assuming office in 2023, noting that several campaign promises have been implemented despite prevailing challenges. Prophet Ikuru expressed concern over the recent wave of attacks in parts of the country, particularly in Plateau and Benue states, describing the development as a serious setback to national growth. He condemned the killings and warned that continued bloodshed threatens the country’s peace and development. According to him, insecurity remains Nigeria’s most pressing challenge and must be confronted collectively. The cleric also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and political stakeholders across party lines including the PDP, Labour Party, ADC and others to work together to ensure peaceful political engagements ahead of 2027. He stressed that political differences should never override national interest. Responding to criticisms over rising living costs, Ikuru defended the Tinubu administration, arguing that the president should not be solely blamed for increasing market prices. He explained that Nigeria’s heavy dependence on imported goods significantly affects local prices, adding that ongoing economic reforms are gradually stabilizing the system. Highlighting what he described as key achievements of the administration, Ikuru referenced the removal of fuel subsidy, the student loan scheme (NELFUND), efforts toward local government autonomy, the coastal road project, and renewed bilateral relations. He added that strengthening fiscal policies, enforcing tax compliance, and reducing import dependence are essential steps toward long-term economic growth. Prophet Ikuru reaffirmed his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, recalling that he had predicted the president’s victory in 2022. He expressed optimism that Tinubu would secure re-election in 2027 and consolidate ongoing reforms. On security operations, the cleric called on the Nigerian Air Force to intensify efforts against insurgency and provide greater transparency regarding recent coordinated operations in parts of northern Nigeria. He concluded by urging Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric, embrace unity, and work collectively toward building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

A Nigerian-born designer is gradually carving out a cross-continental footprint in contemporary fashion, blending African textile heritage with British technical discipline. Esther Fiyinfoluwa Adeosun, Founder and Creative Director of Fifi Stitches, is gaining recognition for structured womenswear and bridal couture that reinterprets traditional fabrics through architectural tailoring and precision construction. Born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Adeosun’s fashion journey began at home, seated beside her mother’s sewing machine. What started as childhood curiosity, sometimes jamming the machine just to understand its mechanics—evolved into a disciplined design practice now operating between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. During an interview with journalists the fifi Stitches once mentioned “I was fascinated by how flat fabric could transform into something structured and meaningful”. In her Story , early designs made for her family, though imperfectly finished, were worn with pride—an encouragement that laid the foundation for her professional confidence. Today, Fifi Stitches is recognised for sculpted bodices, controlled tailoring, corsetry construction, and the contemporary reinterpretation of Ankara, Aso Oke, and Adire textiles. The brand challenges the long-held perception that African fabrics belong solely in ceremonial contexts, instead positioning them within global luxury and modern design spaces. Adeosun’s training reflects this dual perspective. She studied Fashion Design and Entrepreneurship at the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Development Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, and earned a Diploma in Fashion Design through Alison Online. In the UK, she undertook industry-focused technical training with Fashion-Enter Ltd and gained fashion business exposure through Fashion Capital UK. Her technical expertise spans pattern drafting, draping, garment technology, structured tailoring, corsetry, and bespoke fittings—skills she describes as central to credibility in fashion. “Precision builds trust,” she says. “A designer must understand construction as deeply as creativity.” Fifi Stitches has showcased collections at the Suffolk Fashion Show, Liverpool Fashion Show – FB Fashion Ball, Red Carpet Fashion Event in London, and through editorial features in London Runway Magazine. The brand has also received coverage in The Guardian Nigeria and Vanguard Allure, expanding its visibility across markets. Beyond couture, Adeosun integrates community impact into her practice. She has facilitated garment construction workshops, draping sessions, and introductory training programmes for women and emerging creatives, promoting fashion as both artistic expression and vocational empowerment. Fifi Stcithes Boss operates between Nigeria and the UK, in order to continue to shape her brand identity. According to her "Nigeria provides cultural richness and expressive textile traditions, while the UK offers structured production systems, sustainability conversations, and institutional frameworks". Looking ahead, Adeosun said she plan to establish a fully structured fashion house spanning Africa and the UK, develop scalable production partnerships, launch capsule collections, and expand independent editorial visibility. Her broader ambition is clear: to position African textile craftsmanship within global contemporary design conversations through structure, discipline, and technical excellence.

By Oluwatosin John At last, the long awaited remodelling of Ifako Mini Stadium is coming to fruition, we say a 'big kudos' to Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, OON, member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly. The Ifako Mini Stadium is the only sporting facility that serves over one million residents of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government and environs including several youths in neighbouring communities in Ogun State. Since its demolition and approval for renovation, standard sporting activities had been put to halt. The development and growing impact of the Ifako Mini Stadium is now being widely recognised as a significant step toward advancing grassroots sports and youth empowerment within the community. Facilitated by Hon. Adewale and constructed by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the modern sporting facility is designed to provide accessible and functional infrastructure for recreational and competitive activities. It will also serve as a hub for youth engagement, talent discovery, and community development. The initiative, according to residents who would benefit from it, reflects a broader commitment to addressing the challenges faced by young people, particularly the lack of structured recreational spaces and opportunities for personal growth. The stadium features a beautiful standard football pitch, spectator seating area, floodlighting for evening activities as well as essential amenities such as world class changing rooms, restrooms, and administrative spaces. These features position the complex as a suitable venue for tournaments, training programmes and community events. For emphasis and the purpose of appreciation, it is noted again that central to the success and visibility of this initiative is Hon. Temitope Adewale, a son of Ifako-Ijaiye whose continued commitment to youth development and community advancement has been instrumental in promoting projects that directly impact the lives of residents in the area. This lawmaker's dedication underscores the importance of leadership that prioritizes sustainable development through investments in young people and community infrastructure. His education initiatives have catapulted Ifako-Ijaiye from the bottom to the top. “The Ifako Mini Stadium represents more than just a place for sports—it is a foundation for opportunity, growth, and the future of our youth,” Mr. Johnson Oredolu, a community representative, said about the facility and he is right. Before now, sporting activities in the constituency and its neighbourhood had been reduced to streets and school compounds leaving no room for professional experiences and exposures to expert connections. The youth are now excitedly optimistic believing that these challenges will become 'a thing of the past'. The Ifako Mini Stadium will surely create opportunities for local coaches, sports organisers, and small businesses to benefit from activities hosted at the venue. Residents and observers note that the stadium has the potential to serve as a pipeline for discovering and nurturing future professional athletes while also strengthening community ties through regular sporting and social events. As Lagos State continues to expand its investment in grassroots sports infrastructure, the Ifako Mini Stadium stands out as a model of how targeted initiatives can drive meaningful change at the community level. With sustained support, effective management, and active community participation, the facility is expected to remain a cornerstone for youth empowerment and sports development in Ifako-Ijaiye for years to come. The long awaited JAHrity Cup, a novel football competition to combine sports and charity will be unveiled soon at the stadium. The enormous value of this infrastructure will remain unquantifiable as it will attract sports enthusiasts from around the state and beyond to experience classical games at a standard-class facility, thus putting Ifako-Ijaiye in the spotlight as a destination for sports lovers. With the continued efforts of this worthy legislator, our own Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, OON, the future of sports in Ifako-Ijaiye can only be more experienced than imagined.

By Oladapo Sofowora In the resilient heart of Northwestern Nigeria, a different kind of storm is blowing hard. It is not the whirlwind of banditry that has long defined Zamfara State, but the quiet, determined tempest of reconstruction and recalibration done by Governor Dauda Lawal, who took the reins of a state gasping for air choked by insecurity, bankrupt of spirit, and paralyzed by decades of maladministration steering it to the path of prosperity. Three years into his first term, the landscape is shifting and the story is changing for the better. Yet, every revolution needs time to root. For Zamfara indigenes, here are ten detailed reasons why they must hand Governor Dauda Lawal another mandate to steer the state to the promised land, so as to enable him to finish the work he has so boldly begun. 1. The Security Recalibration For years, Zamfara’s security apparatus was reactive, arriving after villages had been razed, but Governor Lawal changed the paradigm with a shift. He didn't just procure guns; he built a comprehensive Zamfara Community Guard integrated with local vigilantes and formal military intelligence that has served its purpose of gathering local intelligence and sharing it with security agencies to tackle all sorts of insecurity in the state. His administration invested over ₦4 billion in surveillance drones, armoured personnel carriers, and rapid-response communication towers across the 14 local government areas. The result? A 60% reduction in major attacks in the last 18 months. Another term means expanding this network to the most remote forests of Tsafe and Maradun, finally breaking the spine of the criminal enclaves. One term was used to stabilize the patient; a second term handed to him will cure the disease totally. 2. The Restoration of Integrity in the Civil Service Structure Before Lawal, Zamfara’s civil service was a graveyard of productivity, infested with "ghost workers" who drained the treasury, leveraging a lacuna created by the previous administration. Upon resumption, the Governor commissioned a forensic biometric audit in which over 5,000 fictitious names were expunged from the payroll, saving the state over ₦1.2 billion monthly. More importantly, he cleared 18 months of salary arrears inherited from the previous administration within his first 100 days. A second term handed to him via the ballot will focus on capacity building and promotions based on merit, transforming the bureaucracy from a parasitic entity into an engine of service delivery. 3. The Educational State of Emergency Banditry had turned over 300 schools into abandoned ruins, with teachers fleeing and children being abducted. Governor Lawal declared a state of emergency on education. He has since reconstructed 200 primary schools with fortified walls and secure hostels. The "School Feeding and Safe Return" program brought back 150,000 out-of-school children. But the job is half done. The remaining 150 schools in high-risk zones need the same treatment. Re-electing Lawal means ensuring no child in Zamfara has to choose between a bullet and a book. 4. Functioning Primary Healthcare Across the State For a decade, rural Zamfara relied on patent medicine sellers for life-saving care. Governor Lawal refurbished 147 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs), equipping each with solar power, vaccines, and at least two resident nurses. He launched the Zamfara Health Voucher Scheme, giving 50,000 vulnerable women free antenatal and delivery care. The time of medical pilgrimage is over as the state now boasts of a functioning MRI machine among other sophisticated medical machines. A second term will see the full completion and upgrade of three zonal general hospitals in Gusau, Kaura Namoda, and Anka, bringing surgery and emergency care within reach of every citizen. 5. Agricultural Revolution Zamfara is a state predominantly with farmers; true to its slogan, 'Farming is our pride', despite the rich soil, farmers are poor and are being terrorized from their farmlands due to insecurity. Lawal's "Farming Without Fear" initiative partnered with the military to create secure agricultural corridors during planting and harvest seasons. He distributed drought-resistant seeds and solar-powered water pumps to 40,000 farmers. The state's rice and maize output tripled last year. Yet, the missing link is processing. With a cargo airport in place and a readily available market, there will be a major boost in agricultural business in the state. A second term will see the establishment of a staple crop processing zone (SCPZ) in Gusau, turning raw produce into export-ready goods and ending the exploitation of middlemen. 6. The Portable Water Revolution Gusau and its environs relied on a water treatment plant built in 1978. It was a relic, but Governor Lawal secured a ₦15 billion loan from the World Bank to rehabilitate the Damaturu Water Scheme, increasing daily capacity from 15 million to 50 million liters. For the first time in a generation, taps are flowing in Talata Mafara and Shinkafi. But some rural communities still trek for hours to get portable drinking water. A second term will extend this reticulated network to 200 additional rural communities, making water a right, not a luxury. 7. The Economic Inclusion of Empowering Women and Youth Banditry thrived because idle young men were easily lured. Lawal countered this with the Zamfara Youth Empowerment Trust (ZAYET), training 10,000 youths in tailoring, ICT, and solar installation, and giving them startup capital. His Kaura Economic Stimulus provided 20,000 women with ₦50,000 each to revive small-scale trading. The recidivism rate into crime among beneficiaries is less than 2%. A second term will scale this to reach all 147 wards, ensuring that the economic ladder is long enough for every willing citizen to climb. 8. Transparency and Accountability in Governance Pact Governor Lawal is the first Zamfara governor to publish monthly financial statements on the state government website, including details of every constituency project actualized. He voluntarily subjected the state's accounts to a forensic audit by the EFCC and ICPC; a move his predecessors fought to block. The result is a restored relationship with international donors (UNDP, EU), who have returned to fund developmental projects across the state because Governor Lawal puts to use every fund given with accountability. One term has proven his integrity; a second term will institutionalize it, creating a culture of governance where public funds are put to judicious use without being siphoned. 9. Justice Sector Reform by Decongesting the Prisons and Prosecuting the Convicted Zamfara's prisons were incubators for radicalization, filled with petty offenders and low-level herders, while bandit kingpins roamed freely across the state. Lawal's administration, in partnership with the judiciary, released 1,200 detainees held for minor offenses without trial, decongesting the facilities. Simultaneously, a specialized mobile court has secured 50 convictions against bandit collaborators and informants. A second term will focus on building a modern correctional center and strengthening the witness protection program, ensuring that justice is both swift and safe to administer. 10. The Legacy of Resilience in Rebuilding Social Trust The most profound reason to re-elect Dauda Lawal is the hope his administration brings. He inherited a traumatized populace that no longer believed the state could protect them. Today, markets in Gusau stay open past 6 PM. Farmers sleep in their own homes instead of bush hideouts. Internally displaced persons are voluntarily returning to their ancestral lands. This psychological shift from fear to cautious optimism is the most fragile and precious asset Zamfara has gained. Destroying it by returning to the old ways would be catastrophic. A second term will solidify this trust, transforming resilience into permanent recovery. Governor Dauda Lawal has not performed miracles in one term; miracles are for saints, not statesmen. But what he has done is to perform the harder task ahead. He has laid a solid foundation of competence, security, and integrity where there was only rubble. The Zamfara of today does not need a new experiment; it needs the continuation of a working plan already in motion. Re-electing Dauda Lawal again is not about rewarding the past; it is about securing the future ahead. The first term broke the curse of neglect; the second term will recalibrate the fortune of the state to prosperity.

Well meaning Nigerians home and abroad through a pro-government group, Take Action Campaign for Tinubu (TACT), has formally written to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda expressing its intention to purchase the presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election. The group urged Mr President to remain focused on the Renewed Hope Agenda as it commits to raising funds required for his re-election campaign. The National Convener of the Take Action Campaign for Tinubu Hon. Tony Nwulu made this disclosure while addressing APC women leaders that visited him to show solidarity The group said the move by the public spirited individuals to take the decision was driven by what it described as the “significant and far-reaching reforms” implemented by the Tinubu administration over the past three years, spanning economic restructuring, infrastructure development, and governance reforms. In a letter dated April 4, 2026, and signed by its Director-General, Tony Nwulu, TACT stated that Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, were convinced of the need for continuity to sustain and consolidate the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” According to the group, offering to purchase the nomination form is a demonstration of confidence in the President’s leadership and a reflection of growing support among citizens who believe that ongoing reforms require more time to yield full benefits. “The decision to support President Tinubu for a second term is informed by the bold and transformative policies initiated under his leadership. We believe continuity is essential to fully realise the gains of these reforms,” the letter read in part. TACT further noted that the administration’s policies, though challenging in the short term, are laying a solid foundation for long-term national growth and stability. It added that the President has shown the political will to take difficult but necessary decisions in the interest of the country. The group also used the opportunity to appeal to Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, urging citizens to demonstrate resilience as the government continues to implement its policy agenda. “We call on Nigerians to show greater understanding and cooperation with the government, as these reforms are designed to ultimately improve the socio-economic well-being of all citizens,” the group added. The group further stated in the letter that it would not only purchase the form for the President but also work hard to ensure that he emerges as the winner of the 2027 election through citizen engagement and enlightenment The group therefore called on Nigerians to join hands with the Tinubu administration in achieving its mandate in the interest of the masses.

The political atmosphere of Nigeria’s North-West was fundamentally altered on a sweltering afternoon in 2026 after Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso former Governor of Kano State and Former Minister for Defence who is also the "Grand Commander" of the Red-Cap revolution, finalized a move that many viewed as the ultimate masterstroke of his political career. By transitioning from the NNPP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kwankwaso did more than change platforms; he effectively reset the coordinates of the nation’s largest voting bloc. Senator Kwankwaso’s pedigree is defined by a singular devotion to human capital development and an almost mythical grassroots loyalty preceded him. He turned a local movement, the Kwankwasiyya, into a disciplined, ideological army that transcends traditional party structures. His entry into the ADC instantly transformed a secondary party into a formidable fortress, signaling to the ruling elite that the North-West is no longer a monolith under their control. The gravity of this shift is most profound in Kano, the heartbeat of Northern commerce. For years, the state was a polarized battlefield between the Kwankwasiyya and established conservative wings. However, the entry of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna into the same ADC orbit has created a "Kano Super-Alliance" that was previously unthinkable. Kwankwaso, the visionary architect who sent thousands of Kano’s children to global universities, now finds his populist ideology merging with Gawuna’s administrative steadiness and deep-rooted institutional connections. This synergy is a seismic departure from the politics of "zero-sum" rivalry; it is a calculated fusion of mass appeal and the strategic machinery required to protect and deliver votes. This move reshuffles the entire North-West deck. As Kwankwaso plants the ADC flag across the region, he is attracting a wave of heavyweights from Kaduna to Sokoto who feel marginalized by the status quo. His political pedigree allows him to speak with a regional authority that others lack, positioning himself as a protector during a time of economic uncertainty. By bringing Gawuna into this fold, the dynamics of Kano politics have shifted from a war of attrition to a coalition of necessity. This alliance creates a "Third Way" that bypasses the failures of the old guard, promising a return to the rapid growth that defined the Kwankwaso years, but with a broader, more inclusive base that could dictate the occupant of Aso Rock in 2027. Kwankwaso’s career has always been defined by a uniquely personal brand of power. From 1999 to 2015, he served two terms as Governor of Kano State, in addition to roles as Minister of Defence and Senator. While many were surprised by his recent maneuvers; especially following closed-door meetings with President Bola Tinubu, he chose the emerging ADC over the ruling APC. In the high-stakes theater of Nigerian politics, few events have jolted the region quite like the defection of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna from the APC to the ADC on March 31, 2026. Coming just twenty-four hours after Kwankwaso’s move, Gawuna’s transition fundamentally has also altered the political calculus in Kano. What makes this moment remarkable is the sheer drama of the reversal. Gawuna’s political journey has been a steady, calculated ascent through Kano’s establishment. He first shot to prominence as Commissioner of Agriculture under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, earning a reputation for hands-on management in a state where farming is the economic backbone. He eventually rose to Deputy Governor, serving for nearly six years and gaining invaluable executive experience. Beyond partisan politics, Gawuna distinguished himself as Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University and, most recently, as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). He resigned from the FMBN on March 27, 2026, citing compliance with presidential directives regarding political appointees. A look back at the 2023 gubernatorial election reveals just how significant Gawuna is. Running under the APC, he polled over 890,000 votes against the formidable Kwankwasiyya machine. This proved that he is one of the few politicians in Kano who can genuinely compete with Kwankwaso's electoral machinery. His strength is threefold: he appeals to the youth, the religious establishment (Ulama), and the business community; he has the capacity to split the APC vote; and he has demonstrated he can deliver votes independently of a larger party wave. To understand the magnitude of this defection, one must appreciate the complete inversion of alliances since 2023. Back then, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ran on the NNPP ticket with Kwankwaso’s backing, while Gawuna carried the APC banner with Ganduje’s support. By 2027, the roles will likely reverse: Governor Yusuf is positioned to run under the APC with Ganduje’s blessing, while Gawuna is poised to run under the ADC with Kwankwaso’s endorsement. From the perspective of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Gawuna’s arrival is a "return" rather than a "recruitment," as he was part of the movement's pioneer cohort. This narrative neutralizes accusations of opportunism. For his part, Gawuna framed his move in terms of service and divine guidance, with sources indicating he felt marginalized within the APC after his 2023 defeat. The reaction from within the APC has been one of worry and regret. President Tinubu, recognizing the stakes, reportedly directed party leaders to prevent Gawuna’s move, even offering him an automatic Senatorial ticket for 2027. The failure of this pressure campaign, Gawuna reportedly placed his phone on "Do Not Disturb" and traveled abroad to avoid lobbyists represents a significant defeat for the presidency’s political management. This crisis prompted emergency meetings between President Tinubu, Dr. Ganduje, and Badaru Abubakar at the Presidential Villa to reorganize their strategy. The long-term implication is the potential break of the APC-PDP duopoly. The ADC is now positioning itself as a genuine "third force" in the North-West. The defection of high-profile figures like Senator Ahmed Babba-Kaita, Senator Aishatu "Binani" Ahmed, and former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami suggests a coordinated realignment. This competition could force more substantive policy debates and reduce the "zero-sum" intensity of regional elections. The projected 2027 gubernatorial rematch between Gawuna (ADC) and Governor Yusuf (APC) will be a battle between two men with established records. Voters will have a genuine choice between performance and platform rather than just shifting loyalties. As Gawuna put it: "Allah gives power to whom He wants and when He wants." While the 2027 elections will reveal where that power flows, it is already clear that the political landscape of the North-West will never look the same again.

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to commit Stanbic IBTC Bank, some of its top executives and its lawyer, Mr. Justus C. Iheanacho, to prison over alleged disobedience of court orders. Listed as alleged contemnors alongside the bank and Mr. Iheanacho are: Mr. Yinka Sanni, Mr. Wole Adeniyi, Mrs. Olubunmi Dayo-Olagunju, Mrs. Olufunke Amobi, Mr. Olu Delano, Mr. Eric Fajemisin, Mr. Kola Lawal, Mr. Remy Osuagwu, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq Bello, Mr. Helmut Engelbrecht, Ms. Rabi Isma, Mrs. Funeka Montjane, Mr. Simon Ridley and Mrs. Remilekun Soyannwo. GTBank, through its counsel, Babatunde Adekunle Ogunba (SAN), prayed the court to commit the bank and the listed individuals to prison for allegedly disobeying an order of the court in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1738/2024. The application was said to be brought pursuant to Order 35 Rules 1 and 2 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction. In the contempt proceedings, GTBank sought, among other reliefs, an order granting leave to lift the veil of incorporation of the bank to permit committal proceedings against the cited persons for alleged flagrant disobedience of the court’s interim orders, as reflected in Forms 48 and 49 previously issued by the court. The bank further requested an order committing Mr. Justus Iheanacho and the named executives described as the directing minds of the alleged contemnor to a correctional facility within the court’s jurisdiction for what it termed willful and deliberate disobedience of its interim orders. GTBank also sought a consequential order mandating that the alleged contemnors remain in correctional custody until they purge themselves of the alleged contempt. In an affidavit deposed to by Timileyin Oyefeso, a lawyer in the firm of Kunle Ogunba & Associates, it was stated that on October 25, 2024, the court issued preservative orders restraining the defendants from dissipating funds across all accounts and directing financial institutions to disclose balances linked to them. According to the affidavit, despite being notified, Stanbic IBTC Bank allegedly provided false information under oath regarding the status of a key account belonging to one of the defendants. The bank was said to have claimed in an affidavit filed on November 8, 2024, that the account was unfunded. However, evidence later reportedly showed that days earlier, the same bank acknowledged placing a lien of R8.7 million on the account in compliance with the court’s order. The deponent argued that the contradiction amounted to deliberate deception and an attempt to mislead the court. He further stated that there had been continued non-compliance even after a subsequent court order on February 24, 2026, reaffirming the attachment of the funds. At the hearing, Ogunba (SAN), leading O.T. Ogunba, I.U. Odo and T.E. Oyefeso, appeared for GTBank. Adeyinka Olumide Fusika (SAN) appeared for the second defendant, while Mr. Justus C. Iheanacho represented Stanbic IBTC Bank. The bank was also represented by its Senior Legal Adviser, Nanli Samuel. Ogunba informed the court of the motion for contempt dated March 27, 2026, and prayed that the cited parties be ordered to appear before the court on the next adjourned date to show cause why they should not be committed to prison, stating that all parties had been served. In response, Iheanacho told the court that he had filed a counter-affidavit to Forms 48 and 49. He said the affidavit was to demonstrate that there was no such money as claimed by the applicant in the account of the fifth defendant maintained with the bank. He added that he was unaware of GTBank’s earlier letter until served with the motion on notice and informed the court that a counter-affidavit opposing the motion was being filed. He described the letter relied upon by GTBank as a routine correspondence typically issued by banks to customers and stated that a staff member of the bank present in court could clarify its content. The presiding judge, Justice Deinde Dipeolu, however observed that the content of the letter appeared clear and that no alternative meaning could be read into it. Fusika (SAN) informed the court that, as a defendant in the suit, his client should be served with all processes filed by Stanbic IBTC Bank. He also expressed concern over the development, stating that it appeared to be becoming common practice for banks to depose to affidavits that later become contentious. In reply, Iheanacho maintained that the letter did not indicate that funds existed in the fifth defendant’s account and sought an adjournment to properly respond to the issues raised. Fusika also informed the court of a pending application for stay of proceedings but said he would not proceed with it for now in the interest of justice to allow progress in the contempt proceedings. After hearing submissions from counsel, Justice Dipeolu adjourned the matter to April 20, 2026, and ordered the 1st to 16th alleged contemnors to appear in court on the adjourned date. The Lagos State High Court sitting at Tapa, Lagos Island, has ordered the freezing of all bank accounts linked to World Oil Industries Limited and one of its directors, Kunle Abiodun Enitilo, over an alleged unpaid diesel supply debt of ₦407,125,000 owed to Q&M Oil & Gas Limited. The freezing order was granted by Justice (Dr.) Rosul O. Olukolu following an ex-parte motion filed by the legal team of Q&M Oil & Gas Limited in Suit No: LD/851CM/2026. In a ruling delivered at the Commercial Courthouse in Tapa, Lagos, the court issued a Mareva injunction restraining several financial institutions operating in Nigeria from releasing or allowing transactions on any funds linked to the defendants up to the value of the claimant’s total claim. The order affects accounts held by the defendants across multiple financial institutions, including Guaranty Trust Bank Limited, Access Bank Plc, Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, United Bank for Africa Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, and other commercial and digital financial service providers. Justice Olukolu directed the banks to immediately halt any withdrawals, transfers, or dealings involving funds connected to the defendants, their agents, subsidiaries, or related companies tied to the Bank Verification Number (BVN) of the second defendant. The court further ordered the affected banks to disclose within seven days the balances of any accounts maintained by the defendants as of the date of the order. The legal action stems from a diesel supply agreement dated February 3, 2025, under which Q&M Oil & Gas Limited supplied diesel to World Oil Industries Limited to meet the fuel demands of its customers. According to the ex-parte motion filed by the claimant, the agreement led to the delivery of diesel valued at approximately ₦1.85 billion. The claimant alleged that despite benefiting from the full supply, the defendants failed to settle all invoices issued for the product and that repeated efforts to recover the outstanding balance were unsuccessful, leaving an alleged unpaid sum of ₦407,125,000. In an affidavit deposed to by Tossa Godwin Oluwasegun in support of the application, the claimant alleged that the defendants had been evasive and failed to demonstrate a clear commitment toward repaying the debt. The claimant further alleged that the defendants had begun dissipating their assets in a manner that could frustrate any eventual judgment. According to the affidavit, there were indications that some petrol stations and other assets belonging to the defendants had been leased or transferred to third parties, raising concerns that funds could be moved beyond the jurisdiction of the court. Lawyers to the claimant urged the court to grant the application to preserve the defendants’ assets pending the hearing of the substantive suit. Justice Olukolu held that the application was necessary to safeguard the subject matter of the dispute and granted the requested interim reliefs. In addition to freezing the accounts, the court restrained the defendants from selling, transferring, assigning, or otherwise dealing with any traceable assets during the pendency of the suit. The court also granted permission for substituted service of court processes by pasting the documents at the last known address of the second defendant located at No. 1, Great Favour Street, Ikota Estate, Lekki, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. The matter was adjourned to April 2, 2026, for a report of service and further proceedings. https://newsextra.com.ng/court-freezes-world-oil-industries-accounts-over-alleged-%e2%82%a6407m-unpaid-diesel-debt/

The Lagos State Government has alleged that the headquarters of Access Bank Plc in Oniru, Victoria Island, discharged untreated wastewater into the public drainage system, following an enforcement visit prompted by a whistleblower complaint. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development via his official social media platform, stating that he directed officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) to inspect the bank’s facility. According to the commissioner, the inspection revealed that the wastewater treatment plant at the premises was allegedly non-functional, resulting in the discharge of untreated faecal matter into public drains and causing environmental concerns. Wahab further alleged that during the enforcement visit, LSWMO officials were denied access to seal the facility. He claimed that security personnel and representatives of the bank resisted the enforcement team, and that some officers were attacked while carrying out their duties. The commissioner stated that wastewater samples were collected from the premises for laboratory analysis, and that test results reportedly confirmed contamination. He added that the state government would proceed to court to obtain the necessary orders for the arrest and prosecution of individuals allegedly involved in the incident. In societies grappling with evolving security challenges, the relevance of specialised policing units cannot be overstated. The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offence Unit aka Task Force is not established as an ornamental structure within the law enforcement system; it is a deliberate response to urgent threats that conventional policing frameworks often struggle to contain swiftly. The mandate of this unit is clear: restore order, enforce compliance with the law, and respond with precision to emerging patterns of crime that threaten public safety. In predominantly urban areas like Lagos, criminal trends have grown more sophisticated and, at times, more brazen. From organised street gangs to opportunistic offenders, the strain on regular policing units is evident. It is within this context that Task Force operates, bridging the gap between routine patrol and rapid-response enforcement. Their presence serves not only as a deterrent but also as a visible assurance that the state retains control over law and order. One striking example is the growing concern over the activities of “Omo Taku,” a loosely organised group whose notoriety has been linked to harassment, extortion, and street-level violence. For many residents, encounters with such elements have resulted in physical harm, financial loss, and, in tragic instances, untimely deaths. The intervention of police Task Force Units in curbing this menace has therefore been both necessary and impactful. Through targeted raids, surveillance, and enforcement operations, these units have begun to dismantle the operational networks of such groups, restoring a measure of safety to affected communities. Similarly, the issue of one-way traffic violations has evolved beyond mere recklessness into a public safety crisis. What might appear as a simple traffic infraction has, over time, claimed lives and caused irreversible damage to families. The enforcement efforts of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit in this regard are not acts of overreach but essential measures aimed at preserving life. By confronting these violations head-on, they send a clear message that indiscipline on the roads carries consequences. However, the conversation around police task forces is incomplete without acknowledging the tensions that sometimes arise between these units and the public. Incidents such as the allegations against the CSP Akerele-led task force, Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit have heightened scrutiny and, in some quarters, eroded trust. While such developments warrant investigation and accountability, they should not obscure the broader necessity of Task Force Units. Rather, they present an opportunity for institutional reform, improved training, and stronger community engagement. Citizens, on their part, have a role to play in shaping the effectiveness of these units. Cooperation, lawful conduct, and constructive feedback can significantly enhance outcomes. A society where laws are routinely disregarded creates fertile ground for conflict between enforcement agencies and the public. Conversely, a culture of compliance reduces friction and allows task forces to focus on genuine threats. Ultimately, police task forces exist not as adversaries to the people but as instruments of collective security. Their mandate is rooted in the protection of lives and property, and their success is intertwined with public cooperation and institutional accountability. As communities continue to navigate the complexities of safety and order, the need for such specialised units remains not only relevant but indispensable.

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Audi Abubakar, has distributed a substantial cache of advanced operational equipment to heads of state formations during the annual strategic meeting held at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja on March 27, 2026, while simultaneously issuing a stern warning that the corps will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, with severe sanctions awaiting any officer found wanting. Addressing the gathering of state commanders and senior officers, Abubakar began by expressing profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the renewal of his tenure as Commandant General, framing this renewal as a call to intensify efforts and urging officers to uphold best practices while embracing discipline with unwavering diligence. He emphasized that the corps is entering a new strategic phase where conduct must reflect the highest standards of professionalism, reiterating the administration's commitment to rewarding loyalty, resilience, and dedication to duty. The Commandant General highlighted significant progress made in addressing long-standing welfare issues that had previously dampened morale, noting that since assuming office, his leadership has successfully rectified challenges related to unpaid salary arrears and stagnated promotions, thereby boosting personnel motivation and operational effectiveness across formations. Professor Abubakar also outlined key achievements recorded under his watch, particularly in the realm of critical infrastructure protection and economic sabotage, disclosing that the corps has overseen the destruction of over 400 illegal refineries, conducted numerous arrests, and secured successful prosecutions against smugglers and illegal miners, reinforcing its mandate as a lead agency in protecting Nigeria’s critical assets and natural resources. In a major highlight of the event, the Commandant General unveiled and distributed a comprehensive suite of modern operational tools designed to enhance surveillance, response times, and officer safety, emphasizing that these resources are part of a broader strategy to integrate technology into everyday operations. According to Abubakar, he disclosed that Inline with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Mandate, the equipment distributed to all the state formation includes three drones for aerial monitoring, operational backpacks equipped with mini tablets, solar chargers, GPS coordinate trackers, and situation room connectivity packs to monitor personnel movements in real-time, alongside one hundred bulletproof vests, one hundred helmets, two hundred pairs of combat boots, one hundred pairs of knee and ankle caps, twenty operational goggles with night vision capabilities, two hundred pairs each of agro rangers uniforms, blue conventional uniforms, white uniforms, two hundred berets with corresponding belts, fifty shocking batons, twenty chain cutters, torchlight batons, five pen recorders, twenty body cameras, ten binoculars, water dispensers for administrative duties, copies of the code of conduct, the NSCDC Act, and the Standard Operating Procedure manual. He stated that these gadgets are provided to ensure the smooth delivery of duties, adding that in this new strategic phase, the corps is deploying advanced technological equipment to address insecurity, combat banditry, illegal mining, and illegal logging. The Commandant General warned that the shared gadgets must not be circumvented for different uses but should be strictly employed for corps duties, declaring that anyone found violating this directive would be dealt with accordingly. He further emphasized that in line with the Renewed Hope mandate, the corps will focus on capacity building and training to ensure officers exhibit professionalism and integrity, while protecting critical assets and infrastructure remains the core mandate. Abubakar concluded by stressing the importance of intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration, stating that the corps will intensify efforts to exchange intelligence with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated and efficient operations, thereby strengthening collective security efforts across the nation. The strategic meeting, which drew heads of formations from all thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory, also served as a platform for reviewing the corps’ operational blueprint for the coming year, with a focus on aligning its activities with national security objectives and ensuring that the newly deployed equipment translates directly into measurable outcomes in the fight against economic sabotage and infrastructure vandalism.

Commission to pay 20 aggrieved workers’ salaries, entitlements The Court of Appeal in Abuja has awarded N10 million in costs against the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) and its chairman for unfair labour practices involving 20 staff members. A three-member panel, led by Justice Bilikisu Aliyu, in a unanimous judgment, also ordered PENCOM and its chairman to pay the affected workers six months’ salaries and allowances. The court allowed an appeal filed by the workers, led by Ismalia Gizali, and set aside the June 13, 2023, judgment of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja, in suit NICN/ABJ/188/2022. The appellants had told the NICN that after undergoing interviews and receiving employment letters, they resumed duty on May 2, 2017, but were neither assigned responsibilities nor paid salaries. They added that PENCOM asked them to resign from their previous jobs and later directed them to await further instructions, which never came. The NICN had earlier ruled in favour of PENCOM and its chairman, holding that no valid employment contract existed between the parties. Dissatisfied, the workers appealed the court’s verdict. In its March 6 judgment, the Court of Appeal held that a valid employment relationship existed. Justice Oyejoju Oyewumi, who delivered the lead judgment, rejected PENCOM’s claim that the employment was conditional and, therefore, inchoate. “There is nothing in the offer of employment letter to support the respondents’ assertion,” she said, adding that the letters clearly established a probationary employment relationship for six months. The judge held that the recruitment process, which included aptitude tests, interviews, and issuance of employment letters, confirmed the existence of a valid employment relationship once the offers were accepted. “The respondents should not be allowed to take advantage of the appellants by withholding or frustrating their employment while giving them the impression they would be called upon at a later date,” she said. Justice Oyewumi averred that the appellants relied on the employment offers and resigned from their previous jobs to their detriment, adding that PENCOM was estopped from denying the employment relationship. “One thing is certain and that is the fact that the action of the respondents was an unfair labour practice, breach of contract of employment and violation of the appellants’ expectation rights, for which they are entitled to damages and costs,” she held. The court consequently set aside the NICN judgment and awarded N10 million costs against PENCOM and its chairman for subjecting the appellants to “unnecessary and unwarranted rigours of litigation since 2022”. https://newsextra.com.ng/pencom-loses-at-appeal-court-fined-n10m-for-breach-of-employment-contract/

The Habeeb Okunola Foundation (HOF) transformed a standard community gathering into a powerful launchpad for female entrepreneurship in Brampton, Canada, on the 13th of March 2026, delivering a high-impact celebration of International Women's Day 2026. Far beyond a ceremonial event, the foundation, in partnership with Make Mee Elegant Foundation, the City of Brampton, and The Salvation Army, orchestrated a comprehensive day of skill-building and recognition designed to create tangible economic change for local women. At the heart of the initiative was an intensive hands-on training session held within the welcoming walls of The Salvation Army’s Brampton premises. The room buzzed with creative energy as women from the local community immersed themselves in learning practical, marketable crafts. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, they mastered the intricacies of crafting durable flip-flop slippers, the delicate art of cloth stoning to embellish fabrics, and the precise work of creating fancy key holders. The goal was clear: to provide these women with immediate, accessible tools to generate side income.
