Popular Lagos Market hub ‘Balogun Market’ was gutted with fire this afternoon, the fire destroyed properties worth hundreds of thousands of Naira. Newsmag.com.ng reports.

Despite the intervention of government and private firefighters, the traders– some of whom are victims of the inferno–lamented the inability of the firefighters to put out the fire.

Occupants of near-by buildings had to quickly evacuate their shops as the inferno spread.

All the shops in the burning section of the market were shut down.

According to reports from Pulse the fire was still raging hours after they arrived at the market.

One of the traders who identified himself as Bayo Owosanmi, said “it is over six hours and as you can see, the fire is still burning. The government keeps failing us everyday, it’s taking forever to put out this fire.”

According to another trader in the market who preferred anonymity for this story, the firefighters looked confused. He said, “they have been struggling to put out this fire, but still yet to put out. I’m still wondering if I’m really experiencing this. I’m here witnessing our firefighters’ failure put out this fire.”

A Twitter user, South African Lady Identified as Happiness narrate the sad story of how her neighbour whom she trusted so much raped her on their way home.

Abiy Ahmed Ali is an Ethiopian politician serving since 2 April 2018 as the fourth and current prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He has won the 100th Nobel Peace Prize for his peacemaking efforts with Eritrea.

Ethiopia and Eritrea, longtime foes who fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, restored relations in July 2018 after years of hostility.

There were 301 nominees for this year’s prize, of which 223 are individuals and 78 are organizations.

The Nobel committee released a recording of the call between Abiy Ahmed and Olav Njølstad, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which was made shortly after the public announcement

In the call, the Ethiopian prime minister says “I am so humbled and thrilled when I just heard the news. Thank you very much. It is a prize given to Africa, given to Ethiopia…I am so thrilled.”

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it “has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.”

Big Brother Naija finalist, Frodd has said there is no plan for his love interest Esther, outside of the show.

Controversial Nigerian journalist, Kemi Olunloyo and BBC’s Undercover journalist, Kiki Mordi are having a war of words on Twitter and their clash is generating an internet tension. Newsmag.com.ng reports

After the BBC Africa Eye exposed a University of Lagos (UNILAG) lecturer Boniface Igbeneghu, the school’s management has suspended and barred him from academic areas while the suspension subsists.

In an official statement signed by the Principal Assistant Registrar for UNILAG, Taiwo Oloyede, the university said:

Boniface came under attack on social media as social media users flocked his facebook timeline using all sorts of language against him.

A close family friend has confirmed that the lecturer was admitted to the hospital after he drank rat poison in an attempt to kill himself. In the late hours of Monday evening, Dr. Boniface was found on the floor unconscious with bubbles in his mouth, he was then rushed to Reddington Hospital the family friend said.

One of the lecturers involved in the sex for mark scandal is Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu of the Faculty of Arts, the University of Lagos who also doubles as the head pastor of a Foursquare Gospel Church in Lagos.

Nigerian hyper-realism artist, Kareem Waris Olamilekan who is just Eleven-year-old has emerged the recipient of the Taiwan’s Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation‘s “22nd Fervent Global Love of Lives Award”, beating 2,723 other recommended candidates in the world.

According to Punch, the Representative of Taiwan in Nigeria, Amb. Vincent Yang, made this known in Lagos on Wednesday.

He said that Waris Kareem, who had gained global recognition for his incredible drawings, stood out among other 2,723 recommended candidates across the world and would meet the Taiwanese President, Tsai Ing-wen, among other laureates.

According to him, Kareem will attend charity events with other laureates, scheduled to hold in Taipei from Sept. 20 to Sept. 28, during which he will meet the Taiwanese President.

Yang said that his office and the Head of Taipei Trade Office in Nigeria had hosted and congratulated Kareem on his feat.
