baralatie:err, what's false about the story. Maybe you can do your research, you are free. Bar Part 1 is for students who studied law abroad only and it takes place only in the Abuja campus, the headquarters, it is a brief conversion course. Then they join the rest of the Nigerian students in the bar part 2.. |
PvtParts2:They are bi-lingual. Some specialise in English common law and others in French common law so its the English specialists that come to Nigeria. They recognise Nigeria's law school as the best in Africa and they are also not developed enough yet to run their own law school. That's why. |
Forty (40) students from Cameroon are about to be expelled from the Bar Part 1 programme of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja after 4 weeks since resumption. This became the case when a Cameroonian student wrote a letter addressed to the Council of Legal Education in poor English Language. The school in turn singled-out students from the Yaounde University in Cameroon which is in the French-speaking part of the country. This has caused serious heartbreak to the students who believe they are being made to pay for the apathy of one student. Furthermore, they recount that they have paid about N1.5Million in tuition which is triple what Nigerian students pay and have resumed classes and spent a lot from travelling from Cameroon to expenses on settling down in Nigeria in the past 4 weeks. Also, the Nigerian Law School reviewed their results, deemed them fit to study and offered them admission without identifying any fault. Many expected that in such situation that the Nigerian Law School would simply learn from the occurrence and in the future beef-up their application process for foreigners or at best administer a fresh English Language test to the students rather than expelling the entire sect. Witnesses have it that the Cameroonians seem psychologically affected as many of them are seen in small groups around the campus lamenting their plight. They are hereby seeking public assistance from well-meaning Nigerians who can help their unfortunate circumstance. |
I am a staunch, unapologetic supporter of Nigeria's President, General Muhammadu Buhari. I look beyond tribal and religious lines in the interest of the nation. I've been with PMB since 2003 and have consistently campaigned and voted for him. As a former party member of the defunct CPC, the kind of joy that filled my heart to see him take the oath of office is unexplainable. Now, he is the President and Commander-In-Chief and a lot is on his shoulders. The kind of expectation that surrounded his emergence also cannot be over-emphasized. Many expected that on assuming office, he would take some decisive steps; even former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair advised Mr. President to make some quick moves to reposition the nation. Nevertheless, at this time, it seems Nigerians have entered "One Chance", complaints here and there about PMB's epic slowness to make decision. Yes, Baba is slow in making necessary moves. I will not because of my love for Mr. President or my party allegiance not say the truth when it matters. All we've seen so far is PMB traveling from place-to-place and receiving myriad of visitors and more sickening, making his priceless VP literally redundant. Also, PMB since assumption of office have been touring the north and mingling with his purely northern clout, where are the Mamoras, Fayemis and Dabiris around him during the campaigns? Not once has PMB visited anywhere in the south since assuming office, a costly mistake GEJ made during his tenure such that it was too late for him to correct. I hope PMB is humble enough to learn. It appears Baba hasn't realized what he is into yet, we want a President that is proactive, involved and decisive, who will roll-up his sleeves and get his hands dirty. Enough of the talk, now you are there, get to work. If anyone wants to know what being proactive means, consult the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase. Even Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has showed to be at a higher level in leadership delivery and proactiveness than PMB at the moment. Furthermore, President Buhari's lack of interest in little salient issues is unwelcoming. Playing 'clean', dilly-dallying and side-stepping on issues is unexpected of a leader. A leader must not be afraid to be involved and must take a position on issues. Even former President GEJ as clueless as some people claimed he was was always involved in issues and no matter what, he took a stand but unfortunately, it mostly turned out to be the unpopular stance. The simple issue that recently rocked the APC leadership clearly shows that just as the PDP, the APC is equally as unprepared for their status as the ruling party. The President ought to be a mediator, the respected figure whose voice cannot be declined, for now, that's not what PMB has showed himself to be. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the one playing his role on his behalf, voluntarily calling the APC house to order right under the watch of Mr. President. Such attitude indicates that PMB may be too careful not to step on people's toes, a factor that made Nigerians vote GEJ out of office in the first place. This also questions PMB's total commitment to tackle corruption headlong. As for those who still clamor for patience with Baba, well, I'm sorry to let you know patience has ran out. He's not the first President Nigeria would have nor the only President we'ld see in the world's history. Presidents have come and gone and we've seen Presidents in world history change the course of their nation within days, Late Lee Kuan Yew and Mandela are typical examples. The immediate past Uruguayan President, Jose Mujica is alive to help out and his story is there for all to read. Those are transformational leaders who were prepared and meant business. By now, a common proactive leader that is deft and means business would have done some basic foundational things, it seems PMB is unprepared for the job even as a former Head of State and a 4-time aspirant. If Late Gen. Murtala Mohammed was the President at this time, you and I know he most likely would have taken some key, expected, common sense decisions by now. Don't you know the popular phrase "Fellow Nigerians" and the phrase "With Immediate Effect" was gotten from Gen. Murtala Mohammed? Those phrases alone shows that Gen. Murtala was an involved leader who took quick decisive actions and carried Nigerians along. When it comes to being proactive and carrying Nigerians along, 'for now', PMB has failed. PMB has a 'Messiah' figure, a Messiah saves, delivers and takes action. A messiah is not a celebrity gallivanting from countries-to-countries receiving cheers or going from parlours-to-parlours. PMB spends more time in his celebrity state of mind than as a Commander-In-Chief. It is not too late for PMB to get his acts right. Therefore, I'm calling on PMB to roll-up his sleeves and get to work. Nigerians are not going to listen to any inspiring story after 4 years. I remain a fan of PMB, I'm just trying to make common sense. Cc: lalasticlala, oam4j, ikenna351, afam4eva, boluyongp |

Everyone aspires to own a house and the rate at which the middle class and wealthy in Nigeria are building houses is on the high. The number of real estate firms are also on the increase, this is an indication of infrastructural development. Traditionally, individuals buy a land and build their houses to their own taste or purchase a house (usually through a government scheme) and expand it to taste. But there is a new trend and that’s the ready-to-live-in homes revolution. This new idea in the country may be as a result of brain gain from the west as regards real estate firms or the ever fast-moving Nigerian society where no one wants to be left behind. Ready-To-Live-In homes are quite common in countries like the USA, Australia and many parts of Europe. The stress of having to build a house from scratch for about 9 months or more and an expected headhunt for contractor performance may be a major excuse for the penchant for ready-to-live-in homes. Wealthy Nigerians who are always on the move from country to country most likely would not be able to monitor their housing projects and would rather buy a ready-to-live-in house. The country’s rising expatriate population is also responsible for this new trend. Top international businesses and multinationals who intend to have their representatives work in the country for the long term purchase a permanent accommodation. Another major reason is the homecoming revolution wave across Africa; many Africans who have studied, worked and lived abroad are now coming back home to start a new life, a relatively large population of them have slim or no links to family or friends and even if, they do not want to risk the move of having a relative or friend help handle their home projects only to come home to find out nothing was being built. These and other reasons are responsible for the increase in RTLIs. Despite the novel idea, note that it comes with its disadvantages. First of all, let us evaluate the pros and cons of self-built houses: Build to taste: The first advantage is that land owner can build to taste. He can get the best architects to carry out his ideas for his dream house. He can determine how many floors he wants, how big the house should be or what and what it should provide for. Cost-Effective: Self-built houses are cost effective because the proprietor can negotiate prices and be lucky to get materials, good contractors or man-power at a very affordable rate. Monitoring: The proprietor can monitor the building process by himself. He would be able to block avenues contractors may want to make extra money from him, he would also be able to mount pressure to get work done quickly and also ensure that sub-standard products are not being used in the building process. Furnish to pocket: The proprietor, can furnish his house based on his budget and taste Disadvantages: Time-consuming: It takes a lot of time to build a house and it largely depends on the work rate of contractors and the enormity of the housing project. Stressful: A proprietor would most likely have to go through the stress of getting building approval from the government, working with architects, locating skillful workers and contractors, monitoring and mounting pressure on contractors to get work done etc. On the other hand, Ready-To-Live-In homes are: Stress-free: All an individual has to do is pay for the ready-built and furnished apartment, he does not have to go through the stress of excessive documentations and approval, dealing with contractors etc. Convenient: It is very convenient in the sense that one can begin to live in the house the day it is purchased. Disadvantages: Costly: Ready-to-live-in houses come at huge prices. The home buyer pays for everything involved in the housing process all at once. Nevertheless, it saves the buyer time and stress No monitoring: Because the buyer was not involved in the process of building the house, the quality of the house cannot really be ascertained. The purchaser does not know if sub-standard materials were used in the building and furnishing or if the house was built in a hurry. In conclusion, RTLIs are a welcome trend in Nigeria, it is a sign on brain gain and healthy competition in the country’s property sector. It allows for individuals to have options to choose from and it raises the value of the country’s infrastructural standard. Nigerians can choose to depart from the norm or stick with a familiar system. Written by: Bolu Michael-Biyi http://www.lamudi.com.ng/journal/the-new-trend-of-ready-to-live-in-homes-in-nigeria/ |

Trust is the foundation of leadership and once it is lost, it is very difficult to regain. Many times, team leaders wonder why performance in their team has taken a downturn, some may realize where they may have gotten it all wrong while some continually find it a herculean task figuring out. Loss of favour with team have ruined campaigns, halted projects and strained useful relationships. One of the worst things therefore that can happen to leaders is to lose the favour or goodwill of the people they are trying to lead, they can never achieve any goal in such instance. It thus mean that being in the bad book of a team strips the leader of his leadership, this is because his primary task is to mobilize and coordinate people to achieve a common goal and being out of favour would never make him achieve that since the people would never agree to cooperate. It is necessary to know some of the things that put most leaders in this unfortunate position and how to avoid them. i. Haphazard mode of work: There are times when the leader may be overwhelmed with workload and activities. This situation often makes leaders work in a sloppy, disorganized manner. He forgets the essential principles of leadership he is meant to work by in the process and begins to err. The leader is then perceived to be apathetic towards work, team members as a result begin to lose motivation and exhibit similar traits; in the long run, they lose faith in the leader. To avoid this, leaders should exhibit confidence in the capability of their team by delegating tasks, this is also a morale booster for team members. Leaders should also slow down, have adequate rest and avoid stress. ii. Virtual leadership: Team members expect that their leader would roll up his sleeves, get his hands dirty and hit the ground running first. Leadership by example is a popular, old and basic principle on how to lead. Emails and the like are often misconstrued; some members may get confused and respond in a corresponding manner, it is distant and gives the supposed leader an image of an impersonal ‘big boss’ who is chewing gum and sitting on a rocking chair issuing commands. When team members can see you, connect with you, understand you by asking questions and read your body language, you appear as a leader who knows in onions and that increases their confidence in you. When leaders cannot have a real conversation with their team, they lose stronghold in the front-line. A leader leads from the front, a boss pushes from the back, that is, ‘the background’. To correct this, use virtual communication sparingly, why not simply use it to call a proper physical meeting and set things out straight.
