No it's not fenced, I'm on the outside of a fenced piece of land. I haven't tried my hands on watermelon and cucumber, but ready to learn if anyone would assist. I want to believe those two need more care and attention. Thank you sir for your kind words. kripen: Good work my brother you are an inspiration to people. No matter the discouragement start something from small. I guess this land is fenced, that means it is secured why didn't you try watermelon or cucumber on this plot it is more profitable to maize? |

During my short time as a farmer, I have experimented with both the local way of multiple seeds per hold and the modern one seed per hole, and like you rightly said, one seed per hole is always best when your farm is rainfed from planting to harvest. In this case I didn't wait for the rain and had to do the local multiple seeds per hole to ease watering. That is the reason I made my rows 4 feet's apart, its also why, even though they look green and healthy, I still want to apply some urea. 'If you must crowd your plants, feed them' is a phrase I learned a long time ago. Thank you for your observation sirs cc INFOTECH majorgr: thin your maize to one per stand if not harvest will b Slim. i noticed you haven't thinned them. |

This portion has been thoroughly used even before I planted vegetables in October. so I mixed the soil with dry chicken and pig waste. In 3 days, they will be 4 weeks after which I will apply urea. But they are already looking beautifully green.

I appreciate your contribution sir, though this is my 3rd maize efforts after the 1st failed one, the last 2 had been good. But this one is about the timing, not hoping to make a million from it. My rows are 4 feet apart and in row is 3 saliubello: Expect nothing fabulous from this field. At best you will recoup your expenditure but not some commensurate profits to the labour, time, logistics and invested fund (if it were a borrowed fund).
1. Your row and within row spacings are too wide.
2. Your plant population is low. Therefore, you will contend greatly with weed management.
Nonetheless, I wish you all the best. |

I am writing about my experience not because I feel I have arrived, but just to tell anyone wanting to do farming that no matter how many seminars you attend, your mistakes are going to be your ultimate teacher. I moved to another village and within 2 weeks, I was planting another plot of maize (early may) since then I have settled with maize and vegetable, leaving the more complicated tomatoes out of my farm. (I also have cassava for family consumption)
Today I have what it takes to cultivate one or two acres, but I want to conclude my study on Small Well Taken Care Of Farm when produce is scarce against Large Farm When Everyone Is Planting. in case you are wondering, there is a small pond near that has helped with watering, I used the same for vegetables between October and February. |

I ventured into farming last year after several discouraging words from friends for 2 years. I decided to tell nobody before my first. I started with tomatoes, maize and later vegetables ( ewedu and efo). The first 3 plots was a disaster, I struggle to pay for clearing and did the rest myself. I spent 2 months working on the farm, with slightly over 30minutes to and another 30 minutes from the farm everyday. I left the village without informing anyone because of shame of failure. I made NOTHING from my efforts and had to help someone with weeding to get money to leave. |

@apakoso pls where can I get NPK in 4 liter measurement (Ike oda) in Sango. I will be around there tomorrow. thank you. Now to the poser, can you pls tell us in detail how you spent 100k on a plot of land. In as much as I agree the buyers took advantage of you, 100k is a lot to spend on one plot. apakoso2020: it happened like that because those you brought to buy weighed you and found out that you know little or nothing about Ugu marketing, they also studied the settings of your plantation and observed that you are a paper farmer, hence they cheated you. another time, go to joju near sango otta, register as an Ugu farmer, then start from there. |
