This little guy handled two plots of vegetable (efo) last dry season, I also started planting maize with it first week of February before rain took over. It should conveniently handle 4 plots of pepper or tomatoes because those have more space in planting. it delivers 1000 liters per hour, with just 28watts of power consumption. If you irrigate by putting water at the base of plants like me, that's a lot of water to work with.

Using a DC/solar pump instead of engine pump can be likened to using solar inverter instead of PHCN. The initial cost might be higher, but the long time benefit and rest of mind is incomparable. Every installation gets this charger below as part of the deal. My phone has a 4000mah battery, but since I bought it about a year ago, I only use this solar battery charger for its better. What I'm saying is that, you can use the setup for other things when you're not pumping. A solar panel is rated to last for 25 years.. WhatsApp 0-7-0-5-4-2-8-8-0-4-8 #LetsGoGreen

I just opened another thread on that topic, check here. https://www.nairaland.com/5178614/alternative-pumps-famers-river-stream Or you can reach me on WhatsApp 0-7-0-5-4-2-8-8-0-4-8 Abdullahi4u7: |
Between 5 and 6 weeks, not later than the 6th week. 80cm apart is good, but should have been 40cm within. I would leave it as it is, apply urea and make sure no weeds hinder their development. Good luck. FreshMekanik: |
Some people get scared when they see solar pumps of 400k-600k, while for their application, they don't even need up to 100k. Please don't quote me on this, everyone has different setup and requirements. For fish farmers, you have a second advantage of using this solar to provide additional rich food for your fish by installing LED bulbs to your ponds, which attract flies at night. |
Let's now talk about what we got for developing farmers. If you are into fishery, livestock like goat and sheep (those guys drink a lot of water), pigery and veggies farmers with drip line, a DC/solar pump is what you need. I said drip because I wonder why you will want to use a sprinkler/rain gun for a veggie farm of 1-6 plots with a sprinkler, apart from wasting water, you will still be faced with constant weeding. If you do pepper, tomatoes, even without drip tubes, you can irrigate. Talk to us. |
But I will still recommend a factory made version of this pump to rich famers who are concerned about long time cost. And of course politicians who build boreholes with millions of money, only to pack up in a matter of months due to bad maintenance. This factory made pump is rated to last 30 years working nonstop 24/7 with just only a couple of rubbers to be changed every 3 years, with no fuel or electricity. Our forefathers settled where there was water, so I believe this would be great for any village. |
The other is the labour required to install this pump. Because we have stream/river with small gradients, a dam and very long (pressure) pipe is required to get the elevation needed for the pump, anyone with a waterfall will not face this problem. |
I soon found out two challenges on the pump. The materials available here are not up to standard so I had to import from US. You can imagine having to pay $15 for just a single 6 inch nipple. You don't know what that is, this is the picture.

This is a little service from NextDay Alternative Pump and Power (solar). There are a couple of alternative ways to pump apart from the common engine pumps that use fuel. One of which is a ram pump that uses no fuel or electricity. I talked extensively on this in another thread under a different name. I forgot my login details with that username, so I decided to go back to the name I have been known for about 20 years when I was into communication, NextDay. I'm saying this so no one will think I did something wrong and change my username. This is the link to the thread. https://www.nairaland.com/3044126/introducing-water-pump-works-24 |
Sorry bro, I heard at the beginning of the year that rainfall will be low this year and that seem to be true now. May God have mercy on us. Meanwhile, I'm going to be opening a thread for people who would like alternative ways of pumping water for plants and livestock. stagger: |
Any fertilizer after tasseling will not be effectively used, you will start seeing tasseling in 7 weeks, pls apply your urea before the 6th week. You should have done your NPK at 2 weeks. Thumb up for that weeding. I have come to notice that, even if one doesn't have money to buy fertilizer and you can keep the weeds away by weeding twice, with regular rainfall, one can still smile. Hello there, thanks for coming on. I have not tried my hands on cucumber, but will like to cultivate if you can put me through. Where is your farm. Akposy: |
No, you might need to add a little bit more if your population is higher, this is just a guide. In fact there's a place I said , 'if you must crowd your plants, feed them' If you see 4 plants in a hole, I must have missed that, I did cut down to 3 per hole. In fact, right now I do 2 per hole at 20 inches apart. Even the 2 seeds are not exactly in the same hole, just close. See the picture. This how my stands look like now. From the center of this to the center of the next is 20 inches

Yes sir, fresh maize is just 11 weeks, will take longer if you plan to harvest dry. Cation25: |
As I harvest this, I will be planting another set which will run till first week of may. If you plant late may/June, when rainfall becomes frequent, growth will be affected. sconp: |
I seek the help of experts in the application of Herbicides. I have a maize farm that is ready for harvest next week, my plan is to plant another set immediately. But there are weeds already underneath the matured plants which I need to get rid of with herbicide. Someone advised that I can go ahead and plant then spray herbicide before maize sprout (I like this method) but not quite certain on the exact type of herbicide to use. Or how should I go about it, I just want planting finished latest by 30th of this month. Thank you in advance. |
You are a nice man, may you receive unending favour this year. |
Two weeks or so after pruning, I can see multiple branches coming up from all sides. Do I have to prune those branches again or leave them. Thank you for your help. |
Harvest loading.,........ glory be to God
|
Combine the two if money is no issue, my target for 2020. |
Been trying to upload these pics for over a week, the plants are definitely taller now. The second pic is the well I dug to have access to water. I use a small DC pump that is powered by solar panels.

Not quite sir, I actually improvised by making those ridges. My initial plan was to start planting without ridges, but like I mentioned earlier, the rain came down just 2 days after clearing, (January) and by the time I got to the farm a week later I could see new weeds already growing everywhere. If I had planted in that condition, the weeds would have taken over. So I decided to make ridges to free the plants of weeds. Anyway I had previously been warned that the area grow weeds quickly, but maize also do well there. Please note that, had I been able to plant without making ridges, I would have started with NPK application, but since the soil has been turned over, I can do without it until after 4 weeks when I would apply urea. Amb25: |
Anyway planting for the new season has commenced. You will agree the rain caught everyone by surprise in January, so if you don't have water for irrigation, don't plant yet. I have one acre, about 1-1/2 of it was forest before it was cleared. I will not be needing any fertilizer or watering for this part because it's very close to water, and it's the first area I planted on the 4th of February. The rest I started planting yesterday 7th as my helper commenced making ridges. I plant and water immediately, for this part, I plan to apply urea at 4-5 weeks, no NPK. Will upload pics soon. |
I'm sure there's enough space for everyone to start their own thread. We're sharing practical ideas here, and not sure if anyone needs your videos. letsfarmnigeria: |
I am expecting a OUKITEL C8 (2G/16G) which I bought online for my own use. But now I have a farm project that I need cash for, so I will be selling the phone for 20k once received. |
@Niyi I will be needing a Felicity inverter soon, who do I contact for price pls. Will a 2kva inverter be able to handle (2) 100W deep freezers, keeping in mind the surge at start up. Thank you. |
Can we have full specs please. Thanks |
