Attit:Getting worked up over nothing, something is wrong somewhere. I'm done here |
Attit:You don't have to insult everybody because someone disagree with you, the op requested for help and we responded, it's wrong to call us unsuccessful. Having said that, I will say both of you have valid points. I planted maize on the 24th of March this year after two heavy rainfall on the 21th and 23th. A few days after planting, there was another rain in the same March. But no rain throughout April. There were times during this month of April (6 times) when one could have bet his life that the rain would fall only for everything to be swept away by strong wind. It almost looked like someone was witch-hunting my efforts. But no, it's the change in climate. And I can see the concern of the other gentleman is the cost of setting up irrigation on acres of land, which is no child's play. Personally if I have the funds to set up irrigation, definitely that's what I will do. But since I don't, I will still rely on the rain instead of not doing anything at all. For those who rely on rain like me. Plant between late April and mid May. I use premier seed that start to tassel inside 7th week. The rain stopped for August break on the 15th of July in 2020, it did so on the 16 of July 2021. Bad as it may seem in the SW as pointed out, June and half of July are still sure banker. Then for the second planting, 1st rain in September. Just be sure the farmland is ready before the end of August. The rain restarted on the 18th of August 2021 where I am instead of September 9th 2020. I planted on August 22 because I was ready for it. I am in Ogun State. |

Anyone has this TOPK 8 port charger?

Yes, got it at Justright in Otta. I believe any shopping mall should have it. tobby20: |
Interesting, I was under the impression that hot weather is best for maize. But I remember someone told me recently that there should be a balance between hot and cold, he said April to June is the best time in the south west where I am. That is the balance Zimbabwe has. Thank you bro for sharing. God bless you. grandstar: |
By weather you mean rainfall?, I believe you. In one of these American sites I visited, I discovered that their yield with irrigation is higher than rainfed with 36,000 to 42, 000 population per ACRE. Pioneer seed customer care told me they recommend 50,600 per HECTARE. Premier seed said they recommend based on kg, that is, 20kg per HECTARE. I'm sure 20kg is far more than 50,600 from pioneer. Where I am presently, the stream here can irrigate hectares in double figure, but where is the empowerment. May God help us. grandstar: |
Of course you can sir. 0-7-0-5-4-2-8-8-0-4-8, preferably WhatsApp pheonixdld2: |
I urge all maize farmers to come and share their opinions on this topic, I believe it will help a lot us in maximizing yield. I have come to see that some upcoming farmers mistake acre for hectare and vise versa. To put it straight, an ACRE is 6 Plots while HECTARE is 15 plots. Please, let us endeavour to mention seed planted. Thank you. |
I thank the OP for this, especially his sincerity in final outcome. I haven't done maize this big, but big or small, the procedures are the same. I support 100% all Mr Vonxe contributions and also learn a couple more things. I think this is where the problem came from, inadequate rainfall when most needed, I guess the fact that you don't live close to your farm is the reason you don't know. Early tasseling is a sign of stress. I pray you get better yield next time. vonxe: |
Sorry about that, l lost the line and retrieving was difficult. The line had been ported from glo to MTN, the roadside shop could not retrieve until I got to an MTN office which was far from me. It's back on now sir. soundforce: |

#600 negotiable, really need to move these birds out before traveling. |
I got these birds directly from Amo hatchery. |
Please note they would actually be 3 weeks on Thursday, I just felt I have to start looking before they are 3 because I have to travel by weekend. But trust me, they are already looking like teenagers. |

I am in serious need of brown sugar. I'm going to be away from the farm for town (Sango Otta) tomorrow, and need help about the type of shop that sell brown sugar. Thank you. |
Do you have barley and wheat in the market. Thanks |
Sir, I'm not sure I can pay enough for the worth of the place, that is why I'm asking for one the owner doesn't have plans to use just yet. My payment would be in form of keeping the place clean of bushes. I come here believing with God nothing is impossible as I hope to get started by 1st week of January. Thank you sir. bogdaddy: |
