PoliticsNAF Destroys Boko Haram Terrorists Logistics Base, Vehicles in Borno by nghubs1(op): 6:14am On Oct 25, 2018
The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) logistics base, along with some vehicles, at Tumbun Sale in Northern Borno State.

The operation was conducted on 23 October 2018 after Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions revealed the presence of some BHT vehicles and several fighters camouflaged under thick vegetation within the area, where the BHTs had converged in order to launch attacks against own troops’ positions.

Accordingly, the ATF scrambled 2 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft, supported by an ISR platform, to attack the target area in multiple waves.

The first wave of attacks recorded direct hits on a suspected BHT ammunition/fuel dump, sending it up in flames. Subsequent strikes also resulted in the destruction of some vehicles and neutralization of several BHTs.

The few surviving BHTs, that were seen fleeing the area, were mopped-up in follow-on attacks.

The NAF, working in concert with surface forces, will sustain the tempo of operations with a view to destroying all remnants of the terrorists on the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.

Read statement below

I am presently out of the country on a prescheduled engagement.

In the past 24 hours, I have been inundated with calls from friends and political associates seeking clarification on the rumours of my departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has dominated the media.

Let it be known that my path in politics is in the hands of the Almighty God, who has indeed been very faithful and gracious to me. I’m very grateful to God for this.

My vision in politics is a system that works for everybody, a social and political environment where everybody, every section, and every tribe not only counts, but is also seen to count. As leaders, we must be mindful of this, for any system built on anything less will not endure.

I am grateful to you – members of my family, my friends, political associates, and admirers across Nigeria and beyond – for your uncommon concern. I am indeed humbled by your kind words of solidarity and support.

Please, rest assured that I am still in the PDP

CrimeIGP Denies Tension In Nigerian Police Over Promotion by nghubs1(op): 5:51pm On Oct 22, 2018
The Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris have denied reports that there is tension in the Nigerian police over promotion of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police.

According to the report( NOT NGHUBS) the Inspector General of Police rejected the promotion.

However a statement by DCP Jimoh Moshood and made available to NGHUBS, debunked the rumour adding that the newly promoted DIGs and AIGs already posted.

The statement read

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a Leadership Newspaper publication dated 22nd October, 2018 on Page 6, captioned “Tension In Police As IGP Rejects DIG Promotions” credited to one Ahuraka Isah.

There is no tension in the Police and the Inspector General of Police did not reject DIGs promotion as alleged in the report or at any time show disapproval of the promotion of AIG Musa Katsina Muhammad, mni to the rank of a Deputy Inspector General of Police by the Police Service Commission. The assertion by the writer of the story that the IGP will not only write to the Presidency reporting the development but would neither decorate the Officers with their new ranks nor post the Officers to new position in line with their new ranks is incorrect and completely false.

3. For avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, the IGP had promptly approved the postings of the newly promoted DIGs and AIGs to their duty posts via internal signals released on the 18th October, 2018 as follows:

(i) DIG Maigari Abbati Dikko, fdc as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Finance and Administration.

PoliticsNigerian Workers Should Be Clapping For Us’ – Chris Ngige by nghubs1(op): 2:40pm On Oct 22, 2018
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, says Nigerian workers should be clapping for the Buhari administration because it has done well for them.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Ngige said the Buhari administration has been able to manage the welfare of workers in the country better than other administrations.

“Many people will not remember very quickly. In the military government, at a time, there was an embargo on employment; even embargo on promotions.

When people go, the vacancies are there and the monies are returned to the coffers of the government. We are not doing so and I thought Nigerian workers should be clapping for us for that.

We are promoting them (workers) as we speak; we are replacing those who have left. In fact, when people leave on high grades, we do what is called suppression and get more (people) on the lower grades.

The Presidency doesn’t want anybody to be laid off; this President.” he said

Recall that NGHUBS had earlier reported that the NLC will embark on strike over minimum wage by November 6

CrimePeace Corp Commandant Arrested For Fraud by nghubs1(op): 5:00pm On Oct 17, 2018
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Gombe Zone has arrested one Mr. Ambore Enoch, Commandant, Nigerian Peace Corps, Gombe State Command for financial impropriety bordering on employment scam and extortion of money from the general public under the pretext of offering them appointment into the Corps.

The arrest followed a petition by some aggrieved members of the Corps of Gombe State Command.

Following investigation, it was discovered that the victims (mostly youth of Gombe State) were deceived to pay various sum of money ranging from Three Thousand Naira (N3,000) to Sixty Thousand Naira (N60,000) into the Corps account domiciled in one of the new generation banks amounting to the tune of N54 Million (Fifty Four Million Naira) only. This was between December 2016 to March 2017.

In the mean time, it was discovered that out of the money realised from the corps account, the Commandant withdrew the sum of N3.5Million (Three Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only for personal use, he also transfered the sum of N20 Million (Twenty Million Naira) only into his personal account and remitted the sum of N18.7 Million (Eighteen Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) only into the Corps account at the Headquarters, Abuja.

Other withdrawal were done by individuals under the instruction of the Commandant which appears suspicious.

SportsEven Messi Will Struggle At Manchester United - Paul Scholes by nghubs1(op): 9:36am On Oct 17, 2018
Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes believes Manchester United have sunk so low that even Lionel Messi would struggle to shine for his old club at the moment.

Scholes claimed that United are turning into the new Liverpool while their old rivals and Manchester City laugh at them. And that Alexis Sanchez is too selfish to be a United player but can’t be sold because of the wages he was offered to turn down City.

He added

Mourinho’s side will struggle to win the Premier League title with Romelu Lukaku leading the attack.
Paul Pogba’s cockiness means he will switch off after showing everyone how good he is.

He’s ‘scared’ that United will lose their best players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford because of the way they have been treated by the manager.

The old Mourinho has gone and been replaced by a man who moans too much and cannot get the best out of his players.

CrimeEnugu Police Denies Disappearance Of Stolen N3.6m Bank Money by nghubs1(op): 6:31am On Oct 15, 2018
There were reports on media outlets (Not NGHUBS) that a whooping sum of N3.6million stolen bank money disappeared from Enugu state police command.

However, the Enugu state police command have denied the occurrence of such incident.

According to a statement by the Enugu state police command and made available to NGHUBS, the command actually investigated a case of conspiracy, office breaking and stealing which was reported through a distress call received on 30th June,2018 at Nsukka.

Read full statement below

"The Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform Members of the public that there is no disappearance of N3.6m stolen Bank money in Enugu police command as reported in Vanguard Newspaper publication of page 16 of 8th October,2018 and further wishes to state the facts of the case for the guidance of members of the public who may have been misinformed by the malicious publications as follows:

"That the command actually investigated a case of conspiracy, office breaking and stealing which was reported through a distress call received on 30th June,2018 at Nsukka.

"That on that said date of 30th June,2018 at about 0400hrs,the operatives of the command received a distress call from the manager of a new generation bank located at University Road Nsukka Enugu stating that hoodlums are operating in their bank and have damaged their Automated Teller Machine(ATM) and have stolen some money.

"That through the quick intervention of the operatives of the command, one of the suspects identified as one peter Nkem Alumona was promptly arrested and the sum of Three million,Six Hundred and Fifty six thousand Naira was recovered from him alongside other items which includes a wooden ladder, one long Rope and a purse that contained two ATM Cards.

"That the ensuing investigations into the incident, revealed that the suspect was with other members of the gang who had earlier on escaped with their loot following alarm raised and before the arrival of the security operatives.

"That the recovered amount of money being the sum of three million, six hundred and fifty six thousand naira only was released on bond to the bank.

"The arrested suspect Peter Nkem Alumona was charged to court after a prima facia case was established against him while efforts are still on to track down other fleeing members of the gang as well as recovering of their loots for the law to take its cause.

"To this end,the command however view the said report as not only malicious but false and misleading as well as a calculated attempt to bring the hard earned positive image of the command in crime prevention to ridicule and disrepute while advising reporters to toe the line of objective reportage anchored on investigative journalism rather than dwelling on concocted stories aimed at scoring cheap goal as the command will not hesitate to take necessary legal action against such person or group of persons."

PoliticsStop Parading As APC Gov. Candidate In Enugu, Ogbodo Warns Ayogu Eze by nghubs1(op): 1:43pm On Oct 14, 2018
Factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, yesterday, warned Senator Ayogu Eze to desist from parading himself as the winner of the primary conducted in the state or face disciplinary action.

Senator Ayogu Eze, amongst others picked a nomination form under the All Progressive Congress (APC) but lost to George Tagbo Ogara during the APC primaries

Deacon Ogbodo warned Ayogu Eze that portraying himself as a governorship aspirant after the primaries will be detrimental to the party

He said “Our authentic flag bearer is Bar. George Tagbo Ogara, a candidate, whose imprints have been visible all over Enugu since the pre-primary era and indeed up till this moment, had emerged from a democratically transparent process, as approved by the National Working Committee, NWC, of APC, through direct primaries on October 4, 2018″.

“Ayogu Eze’s claim is most preposterous, indeed unfounded, because he came last (5th) in the APC primaries held in line with the direct primary election option where he scored 7,690 votes while the winner, George Ogara, scored 57,675 votes. It is, therefore, hilarious how he came to become the so-called APC flag bearer in the state.

“Ayogu Eze is not a candidate an ambitious party like APC can gamble on. He and his co-travellers are apparently on a frolic of their own, and are better advised to desist from their obvious mercantile agenda, to avoid further destabilizing Enugu state APC. It is strange and indeed unfathomable to think that Enugu APC nomination would be sold in a suitcase or handed over to someone in some place other than the homeland, Enugu. Those who claim to be APC flag bearer should point out the address of their campaign office and mention the personnel in charge.

“We have duly transmitted the official list of candidates of the party to the National Secretariat, for onward dispatch to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja, and any super imposition of names other than those that are in the list, would be detrimental to the electoral interest of the APC.”

Recall that Barr. George Ogara was announced as the winner of the APC primaries that took place in Enugu State.

PoliticsFG Pledges To Partner GPBN Towards Eradication Of Fake News by nghubs1(op): 7:44am On Oct 14, 2018
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has advised Nigerians not to share any news they cannot vouch for.

He stated this on Saturday at the inaugural lecture of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN), which held at Radission Blu, Ikeja, Lagos.

The lecture which was titled: 'Combating Fake News in the Cyberspace', saw in attendance Lai Mohammed, Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy Ndisika, Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Basil Udotai, an ICT lawyer, Kola Ologbodiyan, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was represented by Richard Ihediwa, Chiamaka Odunze,Head Marketing Diamond Bank,Ramon Nasir Olarenwaju ,Head External Affairs UBA and Kufre Ekanem ,former Corporate Affairs Adviser NB Plc among others.

Speaking at the event, Lai Mohammed expressed satisfaction that the title of the lecture was focusing on combating fake news, just as he noted that the Federal Government has consistently made efforts to create national awareness on the menace of fake news in the country.

He recalled the meeting he had with online publishers and social media influencers on July 24, where he said fake news is not limited to social media and is not new, but what is new is the way and manner that fake news is spreading.

His words: “The war against fake news is a must-win. As a multi-ethnic, multi-religious nation, Nigeria cannot afford an unbridled spread of fake news. This phenomena is exploiting our front lines to aggravate crisis in the country. Of course, you aware of a recent report by the BBC that says fake news circulating on social media is fuelling the farmer-herders clash in Nigeria. Gory pictures from other lands are circulated freely via Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, purportedly being from the killings in Benue and Plateau states.

"Let me repeat what I said at the launch of this campaign the Federal Government will not use cohesion or engage in censorship in order to fight the fake news epidemic. We believe there are enough laws in our books to fight this phenomenon. We, therefore, appeal to you and all Nigerians to join us in the fight against this scourge. We are telling Nigerians to do just two simple things before you share that information on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, please ask yourself how credible the source. Two, don’t share any information which you cannot vouch for.”

The Minister pledge to work hand in hand with the Guild of Professional Bloggers Of Nigeria towards eradicating Fake News in Nigeria

Delivering his welcome address, Chris Kehinde Nwandu, the GPBN President, explained why the association was formed.

He said: “Many people come into blogging as journalists, while some simply because they are interested in writing and sharing information. However, one thing that is non-negotiable is the fact that the public must be fed with accurate and factual information and not the fabrication or falsehood called fake news. There was therefore the realisation that there was a vacuum which needed to be filled, and that is the need to have an umbrella body to regulate the activities of bloggers in the country.”

He called on government agencies to see to the registration of the association as they have made several attempts to register it with the Corporate Affairs Commission, but the efforts have been unsuccessful.

In her keynote address, Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, Head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos said the media was powerful because of their capacity to influence others and bring about change. She said it was, therefore, expected of stakeholders in the industry to always uphold the ethics and report the facts. “The fourth Estate of the Realm must never relent in its quest of being the watchdog of the society. ”This duty of the media is one that cannot be underestimated . “In this era of social media, it behoves of the media to ensure that their platforms are not compromised, no matter the cost involved,” Ogwezzy-Ndisika added.

The don, who was the Chairman at the lecture, described fake news as a threat to the society and development. She urged media professionals to pursue conscious efforts to ensure that the threats of fake news were checked. As the 2019 approaches, Ogwezzy-Ndisika urged the media to always verify whatever they were putting out in order not to cause unnecessary tension before, during and after the election. She said most of the “fakes” were disseminated through social media and online platforms. The don advised bloggers to work at the credibility problems in the online media by ensuring whatever they were publishing had all the elements of credibility.

Also at speaking at the event, Kola Ologbodiyan, who was represented by Richard Ihediwa, said fake news has wrecked the lives of individuals and it has led people who cannot bear the weight of the allegation, commit suicide.

He said: “Fake news is a form of deceptive news report comprising of deliberate and outright falsehood with an intent to deceive and misled for political and financial gains. It can be to attract readership and traffic. The catch phrase today is breaking news and some breaking news can just end up breaking everything in sight,” he said.

In their various papers Mrs Chiamaka Odunze and Ramon Nasir Olarenwaju enumerated how fake news affects affect Corporate organizations especially in the financial sectors of the economy .

They urged various financial financial institutions especially the Banks to set active information desk in their banks where the media could verify information relating to their organizations without any hindrance in order to curb the menace of fake news

They opined that fake news has a way of damaging not only the integrity of financial institutions but capable of eroding customers confidence in the system.

On his own part Mr Kufre Ekanem was of the opinion that emergence of GPBN will separate the grains from the shafts.

He believed it will bring a whole lot of confidence into the system .He urged the Association to remain above board in setting ethical standards for not only it's members but on how the profession could be practiced using global best practices.

Mr Udotia on his part congratulated the Association for their steering efforts at sanitizing the industry .He took the audience down memory lane on how information narratives have changed since the advent of Social media.

The event was attended by several dignatories including the Executive Director Daar Communications Plc ,Mr Johnson Onime, the Group Head Corporate Communications ,Dangote Group Mr Anthony Chiejina,Veteran broadcaster Seun Olagunju ,PR expert Cornell Udofia amongst others.
