Pope Francis has expelled Reverend Cristian Precht Bañados of Chile, according to a statement from the Archdiocese of Santiago. This is the first formal resignation the Pope has decreed since every bishop in Chile offered to step down in May over the country’s sex abuse scandal. The move is thought to be unprecedented in the modern history of the Catholic Church. Precht had been suspended in 2012 from practicing within the ministry for five years after the Archbishop of Santiago ordered a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against him. The Archbishop issued a statement at the time saying that “during the process were established verifiable reports of abusive behavior with adults and minors.” Precht has not been charged with any crimes by Chilean authorities, but was not allowed to leave the country’s capital, Santiago, pending completion of the church investigation. In a February 2013 statement, Precht denied “ever forcing anyone’s will, be it an adult or a minor, woman or man.” He also denied the allegations earlier this year in a letter to the director of the Chilean newspaper La Tercera. “I absolutely deny participating, in any way, in the acts which I’m slanderously being accused of,” the newspaper quoted him as saying. “I will defend my personal and clerical honor in every way I can and any time it’s violated.” Precht was extremely popular in Chile and known for being a fierce defender of human rights during the Chilean dictatorship. His defrocking comes as the Catholic Church continues to face criticism over its response to myriad allegations of sexual abuse against Catholic clergy over the years. Pope Francis said last month that “no effort to beg pardon and seek to repair the harm done will ever be sufficient.” He has called for a meeting of the church’s top officials in February to address the scandal. http://nghubs.com.ng/2018/09/17/pope-francis-expels-chilean-priest-over-sex-scandal/

The Police Command in Imo has warned that it will arrest anybody breaking the law in compliance with the sit-at-home order by the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Dasuki Galadanchi, issued the warning during a joint news conference by heads of security agencies in the state on Monday in Owerri. Galadanchi urged the residents to disregard the order and added that police would not allow such order to stand in Imo. IPOB recently announced Sept. 14 as a remembrance day for the Biafran heroes and gave a sit-at-home order in the South-East. Police commissioner said security agencies would begin “a show of force” in the state on Tuesday to send a warning signal to the IPOB members. He noted that any aggrieved group in society should channel its grievances to the appropriate quarters through a legal procedure and not disrupt the activities of others. “We are ready to stop the IPOB order; we will not tolerate it and I urged members of the public to go about their normal business. “Police is there to ensure that maximum security is provided for members of the public,” he said. http://nghubs.com.ng/2018/09/11/biafra-imo-police-vows-to-arrest-anyone-who-obeys-ipobs-sit-at-home-order/

As part of a collaborative effort in tackling illegal oil bunkering, Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Delta on Monday, September 10, 2018 handed over nine suspects and a vessel, Merchant Barge Skye, allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation and possible prosecution. All the suspects Adaju Muzat, Itobe Rafiu, Ameh Fidelis, Joseph Obie, Ifeoluwa Jerome, Smart Bright, Daniel Beon, Okeoghene Mathew and Abubakar Julani are Nigerians. Navy Commodore Ibrahim A. Dewu, Commander NNS Delta at the handing over in Warri stated that the suspects were onboard the vessel, Merchant Barge Skye, when they were intercepted by men of NNS Zaria at Escravos River entrance on suspicion of conveying substance suspected to be crude oil without naval approval. Upon their arrest by NNS Zaria, the vessel and crew members were handed over to men of NNS Delta for investigation. The captain of the vessel confessed that the vessel had 505MT of crude oil onboad at the time of arrest. Receiving the nine suspects and the Vessel on behalf of the Commission, Richard Ogberagha, a Principal Detective Superintendent, said the Commission would carry out further investigation and ensure that those found culpable were brought to book http://nghubs.com.ng/2018/09/10/illegal-oil-bunkering-nigerian-navy-hands-over-vessel-nine-suspects-to-efcc/

The Presidency rejects allegations of opposition politicians, as well as some newspaper editorial opinions creating the impression that President Muhammadu Buhari is against e-voting, the use of card readers in the upcoming elections, hence his decision to decline assent, for the third time, to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2018. We wish to state in clear and unambiguous terms that the issue of e-voting and use of card readers was NEVER an issue for the President’s decision to decline assent to the Bill. It is equally important that this issue was not raised either by the Executive or the Legislature in the recent reviews. Moreover, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adoption of e-voting reforms is enshrined in the 2015 Amendment Act to the Electoral Reform Act. Card reader is therefore a settled matter. The President’s recent decision to decline assent to the Bill has no effect whatsoever on INEC’s use of card readers. Regrettably, purveyors of ‘fake news’ have been quick to churn out sensational headlines such as that of a leading newspaper, which screamed: “Card Reader in Jeopardy, Buhari Rejects Electoral Act Amendment Bill Again.” Unfortunately, most of the critics of the President, including the editorial of a national daily this morning read out parts of the letters, as made available by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, detailing the issues that were of concern to the government. An issue has been raised by the President concerning some ill-prepared and flawed parts of the bill for which corrections needed to be made to allow for his signature. The President wanted engagement with the parliament for the corrections to be effected so that, at the end of the day, both arms of government will be happy with the fact that we have a good electoral law in place. The President is not in confrontation with the parliament on this issue. He has asked his officials to dialogue with the legislature for the corrections to be effected. As for his alleged rejection of the card reader, nothing can be farther from the truth. The President is the country’s number one fan of the card reader. For a candidate who ran three times and “lost” in an electoral environment in which votes were allocated and losers asked to go to court if they felt unhappy, the President knows fully well the role that the card reader played in his emergence in 2015. He has said times without number that he would strengthen and widen its application in the country and this, he is determined to do. Accordingly, we would like to appeal, especially to the media to disregard baseless allegations against the President, even as he puts in his best efforts in working with the National Assembly to give the nation a good electoral law, and in time. The card reader is not in danger of being discarded. It is a sine qua non for credible elections. We appeal to the National Assembly to reconvene as soon as possible to consider and approve the necessary corrections to the amended electoral act. Garba Shehu Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) September 9, 2018 http://nghubs.com.ng/2018/09/09/president-buhari-loves-card-reader-determined-to-entrench-use-nationwide/

The information reaching NGHUBS is that a new batch of Governors under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as well as 27 members of the National Assembly are making moves to decamp to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) According to a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, PDP has concluded negotiations with the alleged governors and lawmakers. Though NGHUBS is yet to ascertain the proposed defectors but NGHUBS obtained that they will cross carpet when the National Assembly reconvene. Read full statement as obtained by NGHUBS below The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) confirms that it is concluding discussions with more state governors and members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of their decampment to the PDP. The party said it has already concluded discussions with six APC governors and 27 APC members in the National Assembly, who have also drawn their consultations and secured the mandates of their constituents to move to the PDP ahead of the 2019 general election. The PDP verifies that discussions on control of party structures in the affected states and senatorial zones have also reached advanced stage and would be completed in a couple of weeks after which the governors and lawmakers will announce their defection to the PDP. However, in line with decisions reached at the discussions, the members of the National Assembly decamping to the PDP will cross-carpet at the reconvening of session in the two chambers, which will increase the PDP majority in both chambers. The party assures that all grey areas of the agreement, including issues of waivers and accommodation for participation in primaries, are being smoothened out by the former Governor Liyel Imoke-led PDP Contact and Integration Committee, which has been galvanizing our alliances among stakeholders across other parties, including those from the APC. The PDP also commends the spirit of tolerance, dialogue, accommodation and oneness of purpose that pervade the alliance among members. The party expressed its readiness to take back control of power at the center, as well as in our traditional states of Plateau, Niger, Adamawa, Kano, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Imo, Edo as well as southwest states of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos states. The PDP therefore charges all members and supporters to remain steadfast and wary of the gimmicks of the deflated APC, which has resorted to sponsoring spurious publications filled with deceptions, fabrications and lies against our party. The PDP also commends Nigerians across board for their overwhelming support and solidarity with the repositioned PDP as expressed in the unprecedented interest in our tickets for various elective positions, particularly the presidency, governorship and National Assembly positions, in addition to spirited public discourse at all levels of political engagements across our country. These interests and movements from the APC to the PDP are indicators of the consensus by Nigerians to rally on the platform of the PDP to end the economic hardship, bloodletting, violence and infrastructural decay that have become the hallmark of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration, and return our nation to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity, which the PDP is known for. Signed: Kola Ologbondiyan National Publicity Secretary http://nghubs.com.ng/2018/09/06/6-apc-governors-27-lawmakers-set-to-decamp-to-pdp/

Following the declaration of Tuesday and Wednesday as public holiday by the Federal Government to mark the 2018 Eid el kabir celebration, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has called for patience and collective vigilance on the roads to make the celebration hitch-free. According to a statement released to the press today by Bisi Kazeem, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC, the Corps Marshal made the call in his Eid el kabir Sallah message in which he assured members of the public that FRSC's commitment to ensuring safer road environments before, during and after any celebration that attracts increased human and vehicular traffic remains unwavering. He called on the motorists to drive with care and show patience to other road users as a reflection of the spirit of sacrifice which the season symbolises. According to him, Eid el kabir is traditionally a feast of sacrifice which provides opportunity for all Muslims to reflect on the sanctity of lives and mercies shown to mankind by God as evidenced by the substitution of a ram with the life of Ismail. He further noted that the lesson of the sacrifice demonstrates how God takes the sanctity of lives and need for people to take measures that can ensure human safety. "The magnanimity shown to prophet Abraham by way of God substituting a ram for the life of his son, Ismail as is being observed in the Eid el kabir celebration is a great lesson for mankind," he stated. Oyeyemi therefore enjoined the people to avoid acts capable of exposing their lives and that of their neighbours to dangers during the celebration. While congratulating the Muslim faithfuls on the celebration, he stated that adequate numbers of FRSC Regular and Special Marshals as well as logistics have been mobilised for effective traffic management, rescue operations and support to road travelers across the country. To achieve the desired results, the Corps Marshal directed patrol teams to focus more on specific offences like Wrongful Overtaking, Use of Phone while Driving, Traffic light violation, drunk driving, Overloading and lane indiscipline as well as use of extra lights by articulated vehicles during the special operations. He solicited the cooperation of members of the public and enjoins motorists to obey the directives of the personnel of the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies who have been deployed for the assignment across the country. The Corps Marshal appealed to members of the public not to hesitate to contact the FRSC Call Centre through the toll-free line:122 in the event of a road crash and other emergencies for prompt response, saying all FRSC facilities would remain open and functional during the celebration and beyond to attend to members of the public. https://naijacarlovers.com/index.php/2018/08/20/oyeyemi-calls-for-patience-during-the-sallah-celebration/

One thing that has absolutely not changed in this short time is the urge to take multinationals to court in the hopeto find justice to keep a hefty pot of money on. This week a Texan state jury proves that the system is still lying at its hole. A family from Dallas, who lost two children in September 2016 in a tragic accident, received $ 242 million in damages from Toyota after the jury gave the family a benefit. Of these, more than half, $ 143.6 million, is intended to punish the car manufacturer. In the accident, two years ago, the family lost their three-year-old son and their five-year-old daughter, after the Lexus ES 300 in which she had been hit from behind. Although the children were in safe high chairs, the blow to the front seats eventually resulted in fatal injuries. The jury ruled as follows: ” [the seats were] unreasonably dangerous and defended against the dangers. ” The lawyer of the family added the chairs to the chairs: ” The automaker made a conscious decision to protect front-seat occupants from crash injuries like whiplash at the expense of rear seat passengers. ” Such a loss is of course not easy to cash. This is why Toyota has not stated its next step. Chances are that Toyota, the parent company of Lexus, will soon appeal. https://naijacarlovers.com/index.php/2018/08/19/how-one-accident-cost-toyota-over-200million/

5G is certainly the telecom topic of the coming months and years. But technological time is not marketing time. Operators are fighting with press releases to discuss their tests (necessarily successful) and their full- scale experiments . Everyone wants to be the first to get started. Same on the manufacturers side. Even if the commercial reality of the 5G will not arrive before 2019-2020 (according to the countries) the communication goes well, between the thundering announcements (“we will be first, you will see) and the announcements a little premature. Motorola, owned by Lenovo, who claims to be “a leading innovator”, does not go out of his way: “Today, we announce the first 5G mobile device offering new possibilities to watch videos, connect home appliances, work remotely or play in AR and VR. “Motorola partnered with Qualcomm to achieve this industry milestone using the Snapdragon X50 modem and millimeter-wave components.” What is it really about? Asked following this somewhat opaque communication, Motorola has provided us with some clarifications that limit the scope of this announcement. This announcement is for the moment only the United States and only the operator Verizon (which will launch the 5G in 2019 in 3 to 5 cities in fixed and mobile mode) It is not a smartphone but a mod that just connect to the Moto z3 (and by itself for the moment), this mod will be equipped with a SIM card and a 5G modem chip from Qualcomm This product will not be available in Europe “at the moment”: “We have communicated on it in Europe to reinforce the innovation of Motorola”, we explain it It is really about occupying the media field. Talking about imminent launch is somewhat exaggerated. For Qualcomm, do not rely on 5G smartphones before mid-2019. We also interviewed the technical director of Orange on the issue, and for him, the manufacturers still have work. “The manufacturers are trying to demonstrate that they will be ready in the second half of 2019 with terminals that support the first release of 5G.But there is still work, especially on the issues of optimization of consumption”, we said Benatar. The main problem is the impact of the use of 5G on the battery, impact for the moment very important. http://nghubs.info/motorola-announces-first-5g-smartphone/

The International Federation of Professional Football Associations complained about the fact that some players have not had the rest time they consider minimum. The organization denounces that “at least 15 soccer players” participated in UEFA competitions without four weeks had passed since the end of the World Cup . FIFPro considers this a risk to their physical integrity and health. The union denounces that the clubs impose their needs on the well-being of the players, which puts them under “too much pressure”. Thus, the organization demands that FIFA establish an official and mandatory rest period of “at least four weeks” between the end of the season and the start of preparation for the next course. Specifically, the FIFPro refers to the fact that the Russian World Cup ended on July 15 , the day on which the final was played. Its closing phase coincided a few days with the first qualifying round for the Champions League, which started on July 10. Bearing this in mind, it is understood that last season and the next season overlapped for a while. http://nghubs.info/fifpro-complains-about-short-rest-after-the-world-cup/

While Sven-Göran Eriksson is still in negotiations to become the next coach of Cameroon, the Federation of the African country (Fecafoot) is studying in parallel other options due to the high salary conditions demanded by the veteran Swedish coach. According to information from the sports portal ‘Foot Mercato’, Cameroon has probed in the last hours the possibility that the former coach of Deportivo, Clarence Seedorf, occupy the bench of the ‘lions’. With experience in the Galician club, Milan and the Chinese Shenzhen, Seedorf is presented with the opportunity to finally take off his career. The ex-footballer would take the position accompanied by his former teammate in the Dutch national team, Patrick Kluivert, as second coach. “The duo Seedorf-Kluiver does not have much experience in the bench, but his incredible trajectory as players would be very useful for our national team. has gone through bad times in recent months, “said an internal source of the Ministry of Sports http://nghubs.info/seedorf-and-kluivert-could-coach-cameroon/

The future of Robert Lewandowski is once again on the front of the stage. According to several media, the Polish international striker has reiterated his wish to leave Bayern to join Real Madrid. The galactic desired by Florentino Perez is perhaps named Robert Lewandowski. The striker of Bayern Munich has never hidden his attraction for Real Madrid and it is not today that it will change. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus Turin leaves a huge void to fill and he would enjoy it. According to Sky and Marca (who is making a Sunday on the subject), Lewandowski warned Bayern management of his desires elsewhere. Or more exactly of his desires of Real … A reaffirmed will that will not surprise the Bavarian leaders. The fact remains that Madrilenians must now take action if they really want to move forward on this issue. Bayern having repeated several times that it was not a seller, it will not be easy. The two entities nevertheless have good relations and the two parts will therefore be quickly fixed. “Lewandowski’s dream is to play Real, but from there to make it happen …”, argues a relative of the player, quoted by Marca. Under contract until 2021, the Polish changed agent this year (Zahavi) so that his situation evolves in the direction he wants. But Bayern is still at the heart of its problem http://nghubs.info/lewandowski-determined-to-go-to-real-madrid/
