The Enugu state Governor Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has approved reconstruction of 263 classrooms as well as rural and urban roads in the state.

According to a statement by Louis Amoke the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, and made available to NGHUBS, the approval of the project was due to the governors strive for development in the state.

He also added that the governor approved recruitment of 53 personnel to man the new fire service units newly constructed in various senatorial zones in the state.

The post-election actions and inactions of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration in Enugu State in sustaining the tempo of peace and good governance have further demonstrated the governor’s sheer dexterity, vision, passion and commitment to rapid development of the state as well as the wellbeing of the people.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who was overwhelmingly reelected through an election adjudged as one of the most peaceful and transparent exercise in the nation’s history, has remained grateful to God and residents of Enugu State for His abundance of grace and the people’s unceasing prayers, show of solidarity, goodwill and support. The governor saw the people’s love and support as a re-investment of their trust and faith in his administration to render more selfless service.

The renewed mandate was therefore, a veritable platform to continue to reward them with good governance as the true heroes of democracy.

Consequently, Gov. Ugwuanyi in his acceptance speech pledged “to devote our energy and time to work hard for the wellbeing and prosperity of all our people”, declaring that “now is the time to get back to work”. He reaffirmed his resolve to continue to serve with the fear of God to improve the lives of the people and lift the state to unprecedented heights of development and progress.

Shortly after his reelection, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who had earlier paid 'Thank-you visits' to markets and streets of Enugu, returned to the streets on a post-contract inspection of roads such as the old UNTH road, Enugu, Ogidi Street and Onyeama lane in Asata, Enugu, preparatory to immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction. He also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Carter Street, Asata, Enugu, which was awarded by his administration during the pre-election period, as well as the erosion menace at Okwuosa Bridge, Ogui, Enugu, where he promised a swift intervention.

A few days after, contracts for execution of the inspected projects and many others, such as the zonal secretariat annex at Nsukka town and additional works at Nkwo Inyi-Akpugoeze-Mamu Forest road in Oji River Local Government Area and Nike Lake junction - Harmony Estate road – Amorji Nike - Adoration Pilgrimage centre (Phase one), were awarded, totaling over N1.1 billion.

Also in the post-election moves, the Ugwuanyi administration awarded multiple contracts for the construction/reconstruction of urban and rural roads and 263 classroom blocks including the purchase of two Hilux vans for effective monitoring and supervision of the projects.

Approval was also given for the construction of a state-of-the-art administrative building of the Enugu State University of Education in Ihe, Awgu Local Government Area. The foundation-laying of the first university of education in the entire South East geopolitical zone was performed by Gov. Ugwuanyi a few days ago, amid jubilation and excitement.

The state government during the period under review also approved the purchase of 22,150 set of lockers and chairs for students; 1,228 set of tables and chairs for the teachers; 1, 130 marker boards for teaching and 1,960 ceiling fans for conducive learning environment.

Other development projects that received the approval of the government for “better urban, inter-local government and community road infrastructure”, include, Aludele road, Nsukka; Bishop’s Court road, Awgu; Access road to Igbo Ano Specialist Hospital, Igbo Ano, and failed culvert, pavement and surfacing at Onuiyi road, Nsukka adjacent to Zik’s residence.

Still on infrastructure, the state government equally gave approvals for the “engineering studies and design” of Oji River and Nsukka modern township stadia for Enugu West and Enugu North Senatorial Districts respectively, pre-contract documentations for the construction of state secretariat annex at Nsukka satellite town which has been duly awarded for construction, and recruitment of 52 personnel for the State Fire Service to man the five newly built stations across the three senatorial districts of the state, for efficient and effective discharge of duties.

It is on record that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration few weeks to the general election awarded N1.4 billion worth of contracts for the rehabilitation/reconstruction of One Day Road, Awkunanaw, Enugu; Construction of Phase II of Nike Lake junction - Harmony Estate road - Amorji Nike - Adoration Pilgrimage Centre (road works); Rehabilitation of Kenyatta Market road/failed sections/potholes/Onah street, Enugu; Rehabilitation of Umumba Ndiagu-Ebenebe road (phase one), Ezeagu LGA.

Others include, the reconstruction of Amankwo - Amaeke Ngwo - Ama Brewery junction road (Bypass); Extension of Amalla-Orba- Orie Orba -Eke Ovoko- Ovoko junction road, and Rehabilitation of Pocket Layout internal roads, Independence Layout, Enugu, etc.

All these projects, which are ongoing, were in keeping with the governor’s commitment to full implementation of the 2019 budget to advance the cause of development in the state for the wellbeing of the people.

Recently, Enugu State came second in the list of the five most reformed states in ease of doing business in the country that were rewarded by the Federal Government at the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Awards 2019.

The Bauchi state Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development Hon. Garbo Mohammed Akuyam on Friday resigned as commissioner and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to the Speaker of the Federal House of Representative Yakubu Dogara confirmed Akuyam's defection to PDP.

Dogara tweeted a picture and wrote "Glad to receive my brother, Hon Garba Akuyam who just resigned as Commissioner of Finance Bauchi State and joined the @OfficialPDPNig family.”

Akuyam speaking to newsmen on his defection to PDP, said his defection from APC to PDP was due to the recent political realities and development in the state.

Akuyam was the Campaign director of the Bauchi state Governor Mohammed Abubakar in the 2015 general election.

The apex social cultural group in Igbo, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo has said they do not regret supporting the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alh. Atiku Abubakar over the incumbent president Mohammadu Buhari.

According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze, Prince Uche Achi-Okpaga and made available to newsmen, he denied claims that Alhaji Abubakar was supported by the group for being in PDP but rather because of his Agenda to restructure Nigeria.

Ohaneze further stated that if given another opportunity that they will still endorse and support Atiku Abubakar because his Agenda aligns with the interest of the Igbos.

He said,

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has no regrets about endorsing Atiku Abubakar of the PDP; we have no regrets about not supporting President Muhammadu Buhari. What happened was that the National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze decided to support the candidate that was interested in restructuring Nigeria, which has been our position.

“We did not support Abubakar because he was a member of the PDP – we endorsed him because he wanted to restructure the country.

“We are even saying that if you give us another opportunity to take a decision on who to endorse, we will still go for Abubakar because he identified with our interests.

“Ohanaeze has no regrets about not backing Buhari in the election. Despite the outcome of the exercise, we have no regrets at all.”

Achi-Okpaga further said that he doesn’t expect the Buhari led administration to treat the Igbo’s better than he did. He accused Buhari of being unfair to the Igbos during his first tenure.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has debunked rumours of his alleged meeting with the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

According to a report by Daily Trust an organisation that called itself the Sokoto State Coalition of PDP supporters, had alleged that Tinubu and other APC chieftains met with the INEC chairman to influence the election in favour of APC.

Other APC Chieftain accused of being in the meeting were the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole; Senator Adamu Aliero and Zamfara State Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari, met with Yakubu in order to influence the Sokoto State governorship rerun election in favour of APC.

However, Tinubu Media Office yesterday,  described the allegation as “desperate untruth without a basis in fact.”

The statement reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to a partisan advertorial in the 21st March edition of Daily Trust. This advertorial, placed by a shadowy organisation calling itself the Sokoto State Coalition of PDP Supporters, bears the logo of PDP National Youth League and is signed by one Engr. Haruna Usman Shagari.

“Titled “Inconclusive Gubernatorial Election: Sokoto People Warn Tinubu, Oshiomole, Yari, Bagudu and others,” the advert makes baseless allegations against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC); Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Chairman of APC; Senator Adamu Aliero and Zamfara Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari.

“It falsely alleges that Asiwaju, along with the others, met the INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in order to influence the Sokoto State gubernatorial rerun election in favour of APC.

“These allegations by a contrived PDP organ are desperate untruths without a basis in fact.

“But they are entirely in line with the delusional reactions of PDP to their devastating loss in the presidential elections.

“The entire PDP hierarchy have been scared and jumping at their own shadows since the election. They have been seeing phantom conspiracies and imaginary gatherings that make us wonder whether they remain connected to reality.

“Most recently, they alleged that Asiwaju was physically in Kano to manipulate elections there. They backed up this fraudulent allegation with photographs of Asiwaju and the Kano Governor taken last year in Lagos.

“For so long and so often, they cannot even get right the whereabouts of one man. That they can’t even tell the truth about the location of a single person shows that they are incompetent to manage the complex affairs of an entire state.

“It is a matter of public record that Asiwaju has always been at the forefront of the struggle for electoral reform; a struggle that culminated in the establishment of the Uwais Commission by late President Umaru Yar’adua.

“A prominent member of that panel, Prof Attahiru Jega later became the INEC Chairman and was able to implement the far-reaching reforms that have enabled us to have the free and fair elections that we witnessed in 2015 and now in 2019.

“If Asiwaju was such a prominent supporter of electoral reforms, why would he now be among those trying to subvert democracy?

The Nigerian vegetable soup or Edikang Ikong is basically one of the native soups of the Efiks, in Cross River. However, it has come to be one of the popular soups prepared by Nigerians from other tribes and cultures. It is highly nutritious, and to some extent, medicinal, delicious and easy to prepare.

Many Nigerians today has confirmed that vegetable soup is their favourite soup. However, despite being nutritious, it looses its nutrients when refrigerated for a long period of time.

Ingredients for preparing the vegetable soup:
Here are all the ingredients for making Nigerian edikaikong soup. The quantity of ingredients you use depends on the quantity of vegetable soup you want to cook.

Water leaves
Pumpkin leaves (or spinach)
Meat and fish of choice (in this case however, beef, kpomo and dry fish will do)
Periwinkle
Palm oil
Pepper, salt, onions, stock cubes and ground crayfish (spices)
Guidelines in preparing the vegetable soup

1) Wash and cut your leaves (i.e water leaves and pumpkin) into tiny pieces. Put them separately in a sieve and allow to drain;

2) Then you boil your beef, kpomo (which should be in small pieces) and dry fish. Steam with the onions and stock cubes with a little amount of water;

3) When the meat is softened, you then add your palm oil, crayfish and pepper. Allow to boil for 7 to 10 mins;

4) Your periwinkle and water leaves go in next. Allow to boil for about 5 mins.
* note: water is not added to this soup. The water leaves as it boils releases water. The water gotten from it is what is needed for the soup;

5) Lastly, you add the pumpkin leaves and salt to taste. Stir the soup well. Allow to heat for a minute or two. Then turn of the heat.

Your vegetable soup is ready to be served. You can serve it alongside with garri, amala, cassava fufu, semolina fufu or pounded yam.

5. Phyno:

Nigeria’s bloggers’ umbrella body; The Guild Of Professional Bloggers Of Nigeria (GPBN) has condemned the Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) for postponing the Presidential election scheduled for Saturday 16th February 2019.

GPBN in a press statement signed by it’s National Secretary Mr Femi Adeoya on behalf of the Association, said the postponement of the election few hours before its commencement portrays INEC in a bad light.

According to the Association, INEC had four years to prepare for the exercise and had repeatedly assured Nigerians that it was ready to conduct the elections.

The postponement apart from its huge costs to Nigerians and some foreigners has also made Nigeria a laughing stock in the commity of Nations taking into considerations the number of local and international observers who were on ground to monitor the election.

It calls on all Nigerians just like it did in its press statement during the week to exercise their civil duties without intimidation.

GPBN appeals to stakeholders to remain calm and avoid actions that could further threaten the polity while citizens are encouraged to remain calm and ensure they exercise their rights next Saturday.

We call on INEC to remain an unbiased umpire.

GPBN advise all its members across the globe to once again maintain a high level of professionalism in reporting the coming election and avoid publication of fake news and unauthenticated results.

The Enugu Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, representing the South-East Zone, now has a new Head. He is Imam Usman.

Usman, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was the Head, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCOM Desk at the EFCC Head Office, Abuja, and assumed office on December 4, 2018.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 2000 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science, B.Sc. in Public Administrations from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.

He served in various capacities in Kano State between 2002 and 2005 at Zaria Road Divison, Kano State Traffic Office and superintended the conduct of party primaries including that of the People Democratic Party.

In 2005, Usman was seconded to the EFCC where he became a team leader in the Advance Fee Fraud Unit at the Lagos zonal office. He has had stints with the Economic Governance Unit, Asset Forfeiture Unit, and Intellectual Property Theft.

He has had professional trainings in various fields at the EFCC Academy, Karu Abuja; United States Global Intellectual Academy, Alexandria, Virginia, USA; Cape Town, South Africa and in Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy among others.

He takes over from Danmusa Adamu, who is now Zonal Head, Maiduguri.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over reports of violence in four communities in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State resulting in loss of lives, injuries and displacement of villagers.

Calling for calm and restoration of peace in the affected communities bordering Abia State, the President urged the people of the areas to allow law and order to prevail.

“Our communities must be ready to live together in peace since no development can take place in an atmosphere of recurring violence,” he said.

President Buhari, who commended the State Government for the steps taken so far towards bringing peace to the areas, also lauded the State Police Command for speedily mobilizing its personnel to the affected communities to contain the crisis.

He urged all stakeholders to cooperate and ensure that lasting peace returned to the affected areas.

The former Governor of old Anambra State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Jim Nwobodo, has applauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his commitment and contributions to the remarkable feats recorded by the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, in lifting the 2015/2016 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) trophy and 2018 AITEO Cup after 32 years and 35 years, respectively.

Senator Nwobodo,who narrated how he became Governor of old Anambra State through his passion and support for Enugu Rangers, expressed delight that after 32 years the club did not win a trophy, “Gov. Ugwuanyi whose name is also Ifeanyi” came in and opened the door of victory for the club.

Speaking at the grand reception for the 2018 AITEO Cup Champions, the former governor described the club’s recent feat as “the miracle of Asaba” made possible because Gov. Ugwuanyi’s entrustment of Enugu State into the hands of God.

He said that football is a unifying factor for all segments of the society and stressed that Rangers’ outstanding performance under Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration has united everybody in the state, saying: “I am here because of Rangers and Gov. Ugwuanyi”.

Describing Gov. Ugwuanyi as his “junior brother”, Senator Nwobodo stated that he was happy with his style of leadership and commitment to God, maintaining that the AITEO cup won by Flying Antelopes in Asaba was a miracle and “only God performs Miracle not Satan”. He therefore congratulated the new Champions for doing the state proud.

In his address, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who dedicated the trophy to God, stated that the event was “in thanksgiving and praise to the merciful Lord for yet another prayer that He has answered and for all that He has been doing for us in Enugu State”.

According to him, “for 35 years, the club had labored in vain for victory in the National Football Challenge Cup having won its last trophy in the competition in 1983. Again, by the special grace of God, that jinx was however broken on the 24th of October, 2018 when, in what is now popularly referred to as the “Miracle of Asaba”, the club came back from a 0-3 deficit to defeat the Kano Pillars Football Club and win this year’s edition of the competition now known as the AITEO Cup”.

The governor, who disclosed that he was “profoundly grateful and humbled” that the remarkable achievements were happening under his watch as Governor of Enugu state, also expressed gratitude to the management, coaching crew and players of the club for their sacrifices, hard work and commitment.

He equally thanked all stakeholders and teeming supporters of Rangers across the country and beyond, including the people of Enugu State, for their fervent and unceasing prayers “for this day of glory as well as the overall success of our administration”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi further stated that his administration has resolved to restore the legacy of Enugu State as a centre of sports excellence and breeding ground for sporting talents in the country, noting that “as a government, we have always believed that sports offers tremendous opportunities for economic growth, empowerment, employment generation, poverty alleviation as well as progressive youth and social development”.

He therefore, reassured Rangers' fans and the people of the state of his administration’s unwavering support and assistance to the club as it continues to pursue both national and international glory next season.

Another climax of the colourful event was the unveiling of the trophy to the public by former players of the club led by Emma Okala.

Barely one week after NGHUBS reported about UNN students who were raped in a broad day light inside the university compound, a rapist have been caught by the students of the university.

According to NGHUBS, the rapist was caught in the early hours of Saturday at Odim gate.

There are speculations that two students of the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) were raped in a broad day light inside the school campus.

According to NGHUBS, the victims who are freshers into the university had the ugly experience around 9am on saturday by six men whom were said to be labourers cutting grass within the school.

NGHUBS gathered that the victims were 100 level students of Microbiology and resided in Odim Lodge.

They were raped around vet mountain, within the university premises.

The case have been reported to the University security

The Nigerian Army on Sunday denied reports that officers of the Nigerian Army shot at unarmed civilians in Iwo Road, Ibadan metropolis.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army and made available to NGHUBS, the Nigerian army described the report as false, adding that its a blackmail to taint the image of the military.

Contrary to the tweet accusing the Nigerian Army of shooting civilians the Nigerian Army said an Air force official was rather the person attacked by Micra Taxi driver.

The attention of, 2 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to an online publication by twitter. com/Gokentetsu/status platforms alleging that soldiers in Ibadan harassed and shot at motorists for about 4 hours on 9 November 2018 at Iwo Road general area, within Ibadan Metropolis.

The report is false, misleading and an attempt to blackmail the Nigerian Army. It is imperative to state that soldiers of the Nigerian Army are well trained and guided by ethics of military profession. Personnel of the Nigerian Army cannot therefore behave in the manner described by the reporter in the above mentioned platform.

The general public is please requested to note that the woodland camouflage uniform is not only used by the Nigerian Army but by other services of the armed forces. It should be noted that at about 1:40pm (1340hours) on 9 November 2018, a fracas ensued between personnel of the Nigerian Airforce dressed in woodland camouflage uniform and a member of the National Union Road Transport Workers ( Micra Taxi Driver ) at Iwo Road, Ibadan. It was alleged that a Micra Taxi Driver and unarmed Airman, who was an escort to an Airforce Bus conveying pupils of the Nigerian Airforce Primary School, Ibadan were engaged in an argument following a minor accident.

Unfortunately, other Micra Taxi drivers supported their colleague and joined hands to molest the unarmed Airforce escort, the driver of the bus and the pupils. Consequently, the unarmed escort sent words to Headquarters Nigerian Airforce Detachment, Ibadan who mobilized her personnel to the scene to calm the situation.

Four Micra Taxi drivers suspected to have taken part in fueling the crisis were arrested by the personnel of Nigerian Airforce Detachment, Ibadan. The arrested Micra Taxi drivers are presently in custody of the Nigerian Airforce Detachment, Ibadan for preliminary investigation.

The general public is therefore advised to please disregard the online publication as it is misleading, baseless, frivolous and a mere attempt to blackmail the Nigerian Army. The Nigerian Army remains a professional force conscious of its responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
