Al Jazeera has obtained footage of Nigerian soldiers being trained in civilian clothes and bathroom slippers at the Nigeria Army Training Centre, Kontagora, in Niger State.
The photos, taken by a man claiming to be a soldier of the Nigerian Army, has again brought to the fore issues of poor training of troops sent to the theatre of operations against Boko Haram in the Northeast.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, the soldier, who was one of the over 3,000 soldiers recently reinstated back into the Nigeria Army on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari, said the troops captured in the photos are part of the 3rd armored division.
“How could somebody be training with bathroom slippers? How could someone be training with ordinary clothes? None of us having rifle? None of us have uniform? Majority of the soldiers are hungry”, he said
The soldier also accused the military top brass of diverting the budget meant for soldiers into private accounts.
“I believe the government released the money but, it is unfortunate that some people have decided that is the only way of making their millions”, he said
The soldier’s claim was however dismissed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who said soldiers do not necessarily have to always train in their uniforms.
“You don’t have to always train in uniform. Their kits are being dispatched to their units for them to be re-kitted and to be re-armed”, he said.
The soldier also accused the military authorities of failing to re-integrate members of the dismissed soldiers’ families to the barracks.
In a one minute forty two seconds video showing where about 50 families of the reinstated soldiers are living, Al Jazeera reports that there is no light, potable water or hygienic toilet facilities there.
The reinstated soldier said he and his colleagues won’t be able to focus on the war against Boko Haram with their families living in abject conditions.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday declared a state of emergency in the education sector of the state.
He made the declaration in his speech at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna during activities to mark the country’s 55th Independence Anniversary.
‎
According to him, the nation is being liberated and there is need to also free the people by making quality education accessible to all.
He added that ‎ “education is freedom from want and the provision of free basic education in decent schools, with skilled teachers. This is one of the priorities this government will accomplish in its four-year term. ‎
“We have spent the past few months planning school repairs, the provision of school furniture and training of teachers.
“Today, we move to declare a state of emergency in education. We ask for your support as we begin to implement extraordinary measures in the education sector.
“Tomorrow, by God’s Grace, the commissioner for education, science and technology will announce the measures that will be taken to ensure that our schools’ infrastructure, tools and teacher quality are improved significantly within the next six weeks.
“We are determined that one legacy of the rebirth of our country will be the restoration of education as a tool to free our people from the fetters of ignorance.’’
The governor also exercised the prerogative of mercy in favour of 14 prisoners in the state to mark the independence anniversary.
He said five convicts sentenced to death were now to serve prison terms, while five others serving terms between three years and above were released on basis of good behaviour.
In addition, three prisoners were released on the basis of age, while one was released due to ill health.
Mr. El-Rufa’i then urged the people of Kaduna State to respect and uphold the law, as well as be their brothers’ keepers for the state to achieve its goals.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe all the past administrations, to prove “he has something to offer”.
He also said the way and manner President Buhari would handle the November 21 and December 5 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States respectively “would determine if he likes democracy to grow in the country”.
The Ekiti governor said it was unfortunate that despite the nation marking her 55th independence anniversary, her developmental strides had not been commensurate with her age.
According to a statement on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the governor called for the strengthening of core values for the country to take its pride of place among its peers.
Fayose also called for greater commitment on the part of leaders to get the country out of the woods while lamenting the current economic situation in the country.
“But today calls for sober reflection, going by events in and around us. The situation has never been this bad in the country and there is nothing to celebrate.
“Our country is growing in age as an independent country, but there is no corresponding growth in values. Those who are supposed to help propel those core values are muzzling the opposition and the imaginary enemies. The current leadership in the country should have the courage to probe all the leaderships of the past. There should be no sacred cow if truly they have anything to offer.
“The mismanagement of yesteryears, especially since we started the Fourth Republic, should be probed. It will not augur well for our nation if we are selective in the dispensation of justice. Leaders must be equitable and fair to all. Everybody must be diligent in playing our parts. The current civilian dispensation in the country must be supported and allowed to thrive”, he said.
Governor Fayose also urged the Federal Government to address the dwindling economy and stop selective fight against corruption and the harassment of the opposition.
“If President Muhammadu Buhari believes in democracy, he will be judged in the way he handles Kogi and Bayelsa governorship polls”, he added.
Fayose also showered encomiums on former President Goodluck Jonathan for the manner he handled the last general elections.
“Former President Goodluck Jonathan played his role and posterity will have a good place for him in history. He anchored free, credible and fair polls that heralded in the current leadership in the country. President Jonathan should be declared the hero of our democracy and a man of honour”, he noted.

Gosh! I no sabi how u wan mek wack song blow ooo!! LOL… Listen, this is a 100% rated reason why most song dont blow. Even if high quality promotion presist, your song cannot still blow if it is one piece of sh*t banging on the listeners ear (Bad Quality).
I can bet you that its not all artists songs, i.e <b>Wizkid</b> songs that blows, this is caused by nothing else but bad quality beat, lyrics, vibe, production and so on. Take a look at the likes of Kiss Daniel, Adekunle Gold or Korede Bello, this next rated star introduced a new and unique self-styled music and you can tell me their position now in the industry. NBC restrictions, Radio Station restrictions or any restrictions are not good for any upcoming artist song. Using explicit content in your song like (using sexual exciting lyrics and title) can limit the listeners traffic of your song and get it banned by entertainment authorities like NBC.
As a upcoming artist its not recommended to make songs this way at least for now. Former Presidential spokesperson to ex-president Jonathan, Doyin Okupe took to his Facebook page to express his fears over the current travails of the senate president Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Okupe in his post said it portends danger for Nigeria. What he wrote below..
To ordinary watchers of Nigerian politics, the on going ordeal of the Senate President, Dr saraki may be an interesting soap opera.But to more discerning minds it is nothing short of a tragic comedy. Over the years Nigerian politicians fail over and over again to convince anybody that they actually learnt anything from our checkered political history. This is why we have had many Republics in our national history.
Wiston Churchill said ” failure to act when action would have been simple and effective, lack of good reasoning, and confusion of counsel, all these lead to endless repetition of history.” I am personally not a supporter of Dr Saraki and for good reason. He spearheaded the demolition of the pdp and the eventual catastrophic electoral misfortune of the Goodluck Jonathan ‘s Presidency. Neither am I a detractor of the Senate President. However as a veteran politician I accept that all is fair in love and in war and as they say theend justifies the means. But what is currently going on is ominous and dangerous and will require Wisdom and extreme tact from all the dramatis personnel.
I did in the past predict that the APC will break up, but that was before the APC formed the government. Now that they are in government, it is not in my interest or that of any reasonable or patriotic Nigerian to wish that they break up.
A break up of the APC now has the capacity to undermine the current political process and the entire political dispensation we are passing through to the detriment of the country and the innocent masses. As it is now, while the law must be allowed to take its course, men with less passion, and more sense on ALL sides must rise to the occasion to manage this delicate matter in the overall interest of our Nation, our democracy and our people. Remembering always that an ill wind does not blow anyone any good.

At least 220 people are said to have been killed and 450 injured in a stampede in Mina outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca on Thursday in Saudi Arabia.
Over 3 million pilgrims observing this year’s hajj, who spent the night in the plain fields of Muzdalifa, began trooping to the Jamarat as early as 3am local time.
Saudi Arabia’s civil defense directorate said on Twitter that medical teams are trying to sort through injuries and fatalities from the stampede.
More than 220 rescue vehicles and ambulances along with 4,000 pilgrims helped respond to the incident.
Aid workers are currently conveying corpses and injured pilgrims to hospitals.
