The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it is making arrangements with the Nigerian Prisons Service to allow certain prisoners to vote in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu said this on Tuesday in Abuja at a dialogue session involving over 70 civil society organizations in Nigeria.

This development is coming three years after a Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State ruled that prisoners in Nigeria have the right to vote in all elections conducted in every part of the country. Mr. Yakubu said that INEC is considering creating polling units in Nigerian prisons, clarifying that only “certain categories of prisoners” would be given the right to vote depending on the nature of the crimes committed.

“We have already engaged the Comptroller-General of Prisons and we have statistics on the number of prisoners nationwide and the number of inmates registered. We are looking at the possibility of creating polling units in the prisons and to enable some categories of prisoners to vote.

“Ghana does it but there are some categories of prisoners who, by the nature of crimes committed, lose the right to vote. Whatever we can do to open up the process to ensure that as many Nigerians as possible are given the opportunity to vote, will be done,” he said.
Speaking on the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, Mr. Yakubu also said the commission would do everything to ensure that the election is conclusive and not rigged.
Mr. Yakubu raised concerns on the wrong substitutions of names of governorship candidates by two political parties ahead of the governorship election but refused to disclose the names of these parties.

7. Your child holds the cup or glassware by the brim and you don't make a correction.

8. Your children don't greet and you just feel they will come around one day because they have a mood swing. (You will be blamed for it)

9. Your children eat with their mouth opened and you feel they will grow up some day.

10. Your children brought home something you did not buy for them and you said nothing. (That is the beginning of stealing)

11. They talked back at you and you concluded it's okay since you're a 21st century mummy. (You will hate yourself if they do that outside and they are disciplined)

12. They interrupt when you are speaking with another adult and you think they are bold and clever. (It's really bad manners)

13. They exercise authority over their nanny and domestic staff and you let them be. (That is bad parenting)

14. They say things like "my driver is on his way..."
I am not an advocate that children should call your domestic staff aunty or brother but, calling them by names when they are not young people is not poise either. The use of Miss, Mr or Mrs will look good on them.

15. Your children don't say- 'Thank you' when they have been helped or served something. They don't know how to say "please" when they need someone for help; and you are cool with that. (Bad parenting)

16. When your children cannot stand children who are less privileged.

17. When they pick their nose with their hands.

One of Liberia’s leading political parties called for a halt in announcing the result of Tuesday’s presidential election, citing irregularities in the vote.

The Liberty Party, whose candidate Charles Brumskine was considered a front-runner to take over from Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, said it would consider taking legal action if the National Elections Commission (NEC) did not act on its demands.

“The Liberty Party is deeply troubled by the discovery of numerous incidents of irregularities and fraud that occurred during the elections,” Liberty Party national chairman Benjamin Sanvee said in a statement. “We are calling on NEC to immediately halt further announcements of election results. If NEC does not cooperate with our request, we will take the appropriate legal action,” he said.

The NEC was originally expected to release preliminary results on Thursday.

The Nigerian Medical Association, Imo State wishes to inform the General public that where as immunization is neccessary for the prevention of some killer diseases especially in Childhood, there in no officially approved immunisation programme going on in the state presently. As a result, parents and teachers are advised not to submit their wards to persons or group of persons for any purported form of immunisation.

This is on the backdrop of alarm being raised about "forced immunization" in some places in the state on Wednesday 11th October, 2017.

Bitcoin is growing popular throughout a few regions within the giant continent of Africa. One of these areas seeing bitcoin growth is the United Republic of Tanzania. Due to the rise in interest towards bitcoin from Tanzanian citizens the Bank of Tanzania governor, Benno Ndulu, expressed some concerns about the decentralized currency this week.

Currently, online searches for the decentralized cryptocurrency bitcoin are trending significantly within the Eastern and Southern African regions. There is significant interest in areas like Nigeria, Kenya, and Tanzania and these regions have a plethora of ways to obtain bitcoin. In Tanzania specifically, Localbitcoins volumes have risen exponentially since last Spring and the country’s central bank is beginning to take notice.


This week the governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Benno Ndulu told the country’s local newspaper, the Guardian,that Tanzanians should be aware of the risks associated with digital currencies.


“We know about cryptocurrencies, but as a government, we want to study it so we can understand it better,” Ndulu details. According to statements told to the Guardian, Ndulu explains that the BoT is not sure how it will approach unregulated digital currencies.
We are now working to see if we should allow it, regulate it or ban it. We are still studying the matter and looking at it very closely before taking any further measures.
Benno Ndulu: Tanzanians Are Putting Themselves at Risk
However, Ndulu did explain that citizens should be warned that Tanzanians involved with cryptocurrencies are doing so at their own risks. “We have also heard that there are some groups of people in the country engaging in the business, but my message, for now is that they should know they are putting themselves at risk,” Ndulu emphasizes.
If anything happens — No one will be there to help them.

This week news.Bitcoin.com spoke with a Tanzanian bitcoin enthusiast from the region, Raymond Makunja Mulegi, concerning his opinion of the central bank governor’s statements. Mr. Mulegi tells us that bitcoin adoption is just getting started in Tanzania, but personally, he is doing well utilizing the cryptocurrency. We asked Mr. Mulegi what he thought about the governor’s statements, and he told us;
As far as what I understand there is no way to stop it — It is going to revolutionize the finance industry and I think they are scared of it.

“We purchase bitcoins through P2P services like Localbitcoins or Remitano,” Mr. Mulegi adds. “Normally I usually wire money to Xapo, and I have a solid experience with that platform. There are others who used Bitpesa in the past, but they recently stopped trades in Tanzania due to a lot of people involved with scams.”

Mr. Mulegi says, unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers preying on citizens within the region and some phony crypto-business operations. He believes scams like these are probably the main reasons officials in the area see digital currencies in a negative light. However, Mr. Mulegi ultimately believes the central bank cannot stop bitcoin, and it will be a great tool to help his people rise from economic oppression.
“The fact that someone can send money at the click of a mouse across borders solidifies its value. This is what drew many Africans to bitcoin’s benefits in my opinion,” Mr. Mulegi concludes.
It’s something that will help pull a large population out of poverty more than anything else.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered an investigation into a fire that swept through Kenya's largest open-air market and carried on burning for eight hours, destroying goods wroth thousands of dollars.

Devolution Minister Mwangi Kiunjuri says the fire at the market on Friday morning, one of several in the past five years, could be the result of arson.

The BBC's Ferdinand Omondi in Nairobi says Gikomba is one of the largest open-air markers in East Africa, and it specialises in second-hand clothes from the West, which would be otherwise unaffordable to the ordinary Kenyan. One vendor told the BBC he had lost 250 bales of clothing, worth an estimated $23,000 (£17,600).

More than 30,000 people have been evacuated in Ukraine's central Vinnytsia region after a huge arms depot storing missiles caught fire and exploded, in what authorities said was a possible act of "sabotage".
The fire, near the town of Kalynivka, about 200km south-west of Kiev, injured two people, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said in a statement on Wednesday. There were no reports of any fatalities.
More than 180,000 tonnes of munitions were believed to have been stored at the depot, including projectiles for various rocket-launch systems alongside ageing Cold War-era munitions.
"People suffered heavy damage," a local resident who gave just the name Antonina told AFP news agency. "Some homes had their windows and doors completely blown out," she said.
The flames caused artillery shells at the facility to explode one after the other in spectacular but harrowing orange balls of fire that lit up the night sky and shook the ground.
Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman called for a thorough investigation into the incident, as he assured the public that the blaze had been brought under control.
"This is the arsenal of the Ukrainian army, and I think it was no accident that it was destroyed," Groysman said.
"We need to make sure that the guilty are held responsible."

Officials shut down surrounding airspace as a precaution to keep exploding missiles from hitting passing commercial jets.
Ukraine's emergency service began using two An-32 military cargo planes to douse surrounding forests with water to localise the raging flames.
The fire first started on Tuesday, which was President Petro Poroshenko's birthday.
Poroshenko underscored the seriousness of the situation by telling his top military brass and Groysman, the prime minister, to report to him directly after visiting the site.
The blaze and accompanying explosions appeared similar to an incident in March at a munitions depot in the eastern Kharkiv region, said Groysman.
About 20,000 people were evacuated during that Kharkiv incident.
Kiev had blamed that deadly blast on Moscow and its Russian-backed armed groups fighting Ukrainian forces in the war-wracked east - a charge both denied.

I grew up in the early 80’s and 90’s, homosexuality was completely rare. But now, drugs and the media are the main course. I don’t know know about your generation maybe it’s rampant but I doubt it. ola04simple - I’m not very sure about Northern Nigeria having the most homosexuals in Nigeria because there really isn’t any statistics to confirm this. A friend doing her research on the topic some years ago did suggest that the South Eastern part had more homosexuals going by google trend which stipulates that people from Enugu searched for more gay related topics like ‘gay porn, ‘is my husband gay’ etc. However, Northerners seem not to be heavy users of the internet so google trends don’t prove it as well.

PATIENCE..... A 30-year-old man visited his old father who could no longer see very well. As both of them sat in front of his house chatting, a dove flew in and perched on the window. The old man asked his son, "Is that a dove that perched on the window?". The son replied, "Yes dad". After a short while, he asked the son the same question a second time and got the same answer. The words read: "My son is 3 years old today. As we sat in front of the house playing, a dove flew in and perched on the window. My son asked me 30 times if it was a dove. I gladly replied "yes" to each question. I cannot explain in words how happy I am that my son has learned to talk. What a wonderful day to remember!" The young man dropped the diary on the ground, then he cried and apologized to his father. The old man spoke again, "Enough son, one mistake cannot make you less a man, but repeating the same mistake over and over again can kill any man. I've chosen today to teach you the final lesson before I depart this world. The lesson for today is PATIENCE. Always be kind and considerate to the less privileged, this is how you'll stand out in eternity. Be nice to everyone on your way up, you'll definitely meet them again not just on your way down, but somewhere, life is often a repeat episode. Play your cards the way, you will love it played to you.
