TV/Movies / Re: Shouldnt DSTV Subscription Be On Pay As You Use Basis? by Nicholdave(m): 11:24pm On Mar 12, 2015 |
I honestly don't know what the biggie about DSTV is. Like I've learnt, it's quite easy to switch services. The last increment done by DSTV saw me not only ignoring the expired subscription, but also going to get another cable, the highest bouquet of which is just about one-quarter of that of DSTV. I promptly got to like the new service, plus there were mutual channels & programmes. Up to a year now and I never looked back, never regretted it. In fact, DSTV had been calling me instead, asking why I ditched my subscriptions. However, it may be because I'm not a football enthusiast. But I figured that even if I was, I'd have still found a way to watch my matches without necessarily obliging DSTV. |
Car Talk / Re: Right Hand Drive (RHD) To Left Hand Drive (LHD) Conversion by Nicholdave(m): 10:28pm On Nov 24, 2013 |
Siena: Prices of LHD cars has dropped, to the point converting a regular mainstream model from RHD to LHD is no longer financially viable. I have converted just 3 cars this year, compared to 8 this time last year. But I have sourced more LHD models from Europe - 7 this year, compared to 3 this time last year. Thanks for the stats, Siena. Though I still find a conversion plan more affordable. I however wouldn't mind a reference to a good EU non-UK trusted site where I can shop for a good LHD vehicle of choice to ship in for private use; with a kid now, I need to leave my 5 year old brand new-bought Hyundai Accent for the wife and get myself another. All of that said, how much do you convert the Freelander, how long does it take and is it done from the UK? I must say I have a tight budget though, but would pay for a premium conversion. Tried to inbox you to contact me, but no response from you yet. |

erico2k2:Hi erico2k2, Please is the Landrover Freelander in the photos here same as the one you say can be gotten right all the way at conversion? I'm almost fixated on this and need to decide quickly so as to beat the January 10 effective date of the new car importation duty & levy rates. lungwun: Thanks, lungwun; I see you got your facts right about the price of a nice used 407 in the UK. Sone questions though: 1. How much for a real good conversion? 2. How long does it take? 3. Any answer to negate erico2k2's fears about the heater box under the glove compartment? 4. Any known electrical fault subsequently associated with this model? Thanks.

erico2k2: Thanks for your candid advise, eriko2k2. But do you know from which source in the EU I can get a proper RHD vehicle, which country and/or website? I generally like getting my things from abroad myself and I've been pretty successful with some items. I'd like to arrange a second car by myself without engaging needless intermediaries. Your quick response will again be appreciated. Thanks. |

So far, no one could tell exactly how much it takes to do the conversion for various cars mentioned. I'm here seriously contemplating getting a RHD Peugeot 407 from the UK and converting it in Nigeria: how much would that cost please? Also, I hear many stories about the issues associated with the 407 and need to confirm from Nairalanders who REALLY know. Any objective opinion would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi Femi, Please how much will it cost to clear a Peugeot 406 2003 from the UK? I'm doing comparative costing? Thanks. |

mbhs139: You're being ignorantly naïve if you think what this guy did is wrong (giving a sample of the questions): KPMG will not set the same questions for different locations/dates/categories. Any fool should know that. Even JAMB found a way around it. But at least now other candidates know what kind of questions to expect, which is the intention of this kind soul when he posted it. 1 Like |
Car Talk / Re: Help! My Car's Auto Gear Is Misbehaving by Nicholdave(m): 9:24am On Mar 10, 2010 |
@ Awolols: is it equally a simple matter when it affects the car's perfomance? I mean, does the electrical fault impact the mechanical function of the gear? Because, like I posted earlier, my car fails to move at optimum speed when the indicatior flashes 'N'. |

@ elms: you didn't say on which station Automedics is aired. Please reply; thanks. |
Car Talk / Re: Help.my Honda Crv Drive "d" Indicator Light Blinks (Now solved) by Nicholdave(m): 5:02pm On Mar 02, 2010 |
Hi everyone; it's really good to know that help can be within reach with any auto issue on this forum. My Mitsubishi Lancer gear selector indicator also started flashing 'N' (Neutral) when the drive or reverse gear is being used. While it does this, the gear doesn't really select, but rather drives at very low speed with the engine revving. At first, switching off the engine for a while fixes this temporarily, but now, it hardly solves the problem. My mechanic just told me it's an electric problem involving the gear box and the expert is asking for 10K to fix it. Please does anyone have a clue on this issue? Are they trying to rip me off? We could consider the fact that the engine was recently replaced with another fairly used one; does this have any relation to the problem? |
Car Talk / Re: Help! My Car's Auto Gear Is Misbehaving by Nicholdave(m): 4:13pm On Mar 02, 2010 |
Hey, I'm also experiencing this. But mine flashes 'N' (Neutral) anytime I shift to any Drive or the reverse gear. My mechanic says it's an electrical fault in the gear box; can anyone confirm this, please? |

While I appreciate @Dargly's advice on self improvement, I agree with the view that he has carried it a bit farther. Judging people's grammatical competence on the internet can be rather very misleading. Firstly, people feel free in a forum like this and the primary thing is just to communicate. Secondly, there WILL always be both grammatical and typographical errors (and even @Dargly should not cast the first stone): people just want to get in, do so much in a limited time, and get out again (in support of @Ndipe). The spontaneity in communication - like when chatting - also causes this. Why should we now be rather 'obscurantist' like Uncle Kongi? Besides, even graduates of English (like me) still make written and oral blunders, albeit pardonable or not. Nobody is above mistake. Like @Dargly, I'm poor in Pidgin English too, but that may have to do with individual background: I know people who are as eloquent in good English as they are in Pidgin English. Criticizing Pidginers may have envious tendencies. However, Dargly's advice on self-improvement and good self-presentation is objective. |
Education / Re: Appealing The Refusal Of A British Student Visa: Intricacies by Nicholdave(m): 3:56pm On Jan 25, 2007 |
Thanx for r concern and advice, guys. The documents were sent directly to the AIT at Leicester. You see,I HAD to send those original documents in the first place because part of the grounds of refusal of entry, among others, was that the Clearance Officer doubted their genuiness and originality "under a balance of probability". I have been advised by other concerned Nairalanders to write a professionally-guided letter of protest, attaching copies of whatever evidence that can show the documents must be in their possession. I hope I get these documents on time as I may need to present them at interviews soon. |

And oh yes, I have evidence that they recieved them - or at least to show that they must have received them. What I suppose is that if they hadn't received them in the first place, I should have been notified in the notice of pending appeal sent to me upon commencement of the appeal process; don't forget there is a section in the AIT appeal form where apellants indicate documents attached to the form to support the appeal. And then, there is the mention of it in relation to the ECO having examined them. Again, hanx for the advice guys; pls keep in touch. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Virgin Nigeria by Nicholdave(m): 5:03pm On Jan 24, 2007 |
Hey, Guys, heard of the call for aid in the Virgin Nigeria test rather late. I did it abt two years ago; rather long ago so don't knw whether the formats are still same. For the test, there is Maths, Geography (identification of countries on the African and World maps) and Memory Test in which you answer questions after storing information of a scenario read to you. There may be screening b4 the test which will be in form of appearance and a short oral presentation. The interview is usual stuff: your profile, academic, (work) experience, strenghts, weaknesses, career plans, etc. Just make sure you go with your international passport. |

Hey guys, I have observed with great excitement the postings on this subject and feel I may also get some advise. After an appeal for a UK student visa failed in October 2006, the AIT is yet to return all original documents sent to support my appeal. These documents include my O' Level WASCE certificate and my first degree statement of result. Actually, upon first request for the return of these documents while the appeal was still in progress, the AIT had returned only the acceptance letter of my proposed school in the UK (University of Buckingham) and claimed that the other two were not in their possession! I have since been suggesting to them to consider looking in other departments. Upon receiving the Immigration Judge's decision notifying me of the appeal failure, the statement included a confirmation that the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) went through these documents in the appeal decision process. though they seem more co-operative now, claiming they "have forwarded request to our file store for case file to be searched", I cannot continue to tollerate their outright denial of the possession of these documents. Please guys, advise me on what to do. My folks are really worried about this (under)development! |
