Health › Re: Heart Attacks And Hemorrhagic Strokes: Do Nigerians Survive These Attacks? by nickishire: 8:27pm On Dec 09, 2020 |
BENARI: It is with a sense of dismay that I create this thread. I don't know about you, but I've observed particularly in the last decade or two that more and more Nigerians are dying suddenly; either they slump, sleep and not wake up, or simply let out a shout(my head my head my head), and next thing you know, they are gone. These 3 scenarios are typical of Heart attacks, Cardiac arrest, and Hemorrhagic Strokes.
Sad to say, a lot of the people I know, even seemingly very literate ones tend to blame such deaths on spiritual attacks, and for that reason I believe we miss the opportunity to fashion out a way to prevent as much as possible, a recurrence.
I've often wondered why everyone I learnt had a heart attack in Nigeria or a Hemorrhagic stroke ends up dying. Perhaps I've not been very observant, but I've never met a survivor of any of these medical emergencies. Mind you, I'm not talking about the less severe stroke that usually partially paralyze a part of the body. Ironically, in the western world, statistics shows that only a third of victims end up dying from these emergencies. Some persons have even survived repeated heart attacks.
Well, I know some will say we don't have the facilities and emergency response, yes, but even those who do make it to the hospital end up dying. On the part of the populace, we are usually helpless when such emergencies occur which I find rather unfortunate. Now let me say this, the reason why people end dying from heart attacks particularly in Nigeria, is not only due to inadequate facilities, but also due to ignorance. A simple CPR(chest compress) which can be performed by anybody can and have saved many lives(a CPR is by no means a solution to heart attacks, but can help to keep the victim alive till medical professionals take over management). I simply cannot understand why both the government and we the people have not yet seen the need to educate ourselves about this simple live saving procedure. Personally I've tried to train loved ones on this procedure, but often they laugh it off or don't take it seriously. They're usually quick to label me a coward, pessimist or faithless person. I'm certain I'll do whatever I can to help a heart attack victim if I encounter any such emergencies, but I sometimes worry that no one will be able to come to my aid if I were to be a victim some day.
I think we need a change of attitude toward this sudden killers. More and more are dying needless deaths, and we can do more that just blowing breeze or pouring water on victims while we wait for them to die. We need to educate ourselves, our spouses, children, friends, and relatives. Your effort can save a loved ones life including yours. This emergencies can befall anyone irrespective of age or gender(although men 30 years and above are disproportionately affected, but women over 45 years of age are at increased risk)
Doctors and Medical professionals in the house please throw more light on this topic; how to prevent the conditions that leads to this medical emergencies and what to do when such emergencies do occur. I'm however aware of the ignorance and debate that exist in the medical field as to what causes the disease that leads to these emergencies.
The sudden death trend is an alarming one in Nigeria that should be declared a national emergency in my view. Looks like 2 in every 3 deaths this days are sudden.
Personally I'm taking the time to know the cause of the disease that eventually leads to this emergencies and also taking steps that could likely help prevent things from getting so bad, and I think the time has come for each and everyone to begin doing the same. Because I'm not a medical professional, I cannot recommend what people should or shouldn't do to reduce their risk, however, I'll gladly share materials that can educate people on lifestyle choices that can help them. This topic hits hard. I lost my dad to hemorrhagic stroke barely two weeks ago. |

ItsCookie: BB: Hello Ozo
Ozo: Hello BB
BB: Welcome to your DS
Ozo: Thank you
BB: How are you today?
Ozo: Really great. The week has been kind to me, yesterday was a huge win, today wasn't very good but I also had some wins, Monday didn't go as I planned but the whole week has been good.
BB: How did Monday diasappoint you?
Ozo: Well, the fact that I am also having the same feelings I had throughout last week on Monday. You know, I felt relieved after Sunday night, but on Monday, I started worrying again, based on the fact that I am up. Also, for the fact that I am up with Dora as she is one of the closest people in the house to me, I just had to push it off my mind. I am surely looking forward to the Betway task tomorrow.
BB: Talk to BB about Innoson and indomie tasks.
Ozo: I will start with yesterday. It feels great to participate in a task that has to do with retentive memory, it was interesting. It was very interesting as people kept dropping out, sharing knowledge with other HMs, and coming out winning meant a whole lot to me. Like I said yesterday, driving a car made in Nigeria is a huge pride for me, I feel like a part of the brand and it means a whole lot. I grew up in Enugu most of my life and our family house is really close to the company, it means the world to me knowing their root and finnaly owning something made from them. I knew Neo felt really bad, no one is a good looser, as I told him, one day, he will get to start winning something, and today, I couldn't be more happier for him as he won the indomie task, he got to win a lot today. I also would thank Prince because it was because of him I had so much ease to make my top for presentation today. We all came out winners today, it's been great... definitely
BB: The house has a new HOH, what is your take on the new HOH and the HOH game as a whole?
Ozo: I will start with the game, I felt like it's a game no one should feel bad about it because we all have equal opportunity to win it. It's quiet an enjoyable game,...the pressure and the importance of winning the game was there too and in general, it's been a huge pleasure partaking in it, it's a great game, you just hope the numbers you want fall for you. I don't think anyone would walk out saying the game didn't favour him or her because of opportunity.
On the current HOH Nengi, I have said it a lot of times, I feel she is one of the strongest personn I have known. Last time she felt bad and said she hasn't really been doing well, I encouraged her and I couldn't be happier that she won. She kind of set the blueprints for everyother HOH that came after her, the way she handled her roles as the first HOH, motivated other HOH, I am really happy for her and I think she is doing a good job..
BB: This week's nomination process was unique, which HM were nominated by your team and why?
Ozo: First of all, I feel like the process really surprised everyone of us. Though you expect such surprises here. I feel no one feels bad or wants to kill another person for being nominated. We all worked out the people we chose based on team spirit, and who was up more. If two people in my team decide on a name, we had to go for it instead of going with a name with just one nominations, that was the parameter we used.
BB: In retrospect, do you think your team made the right choice?
Ozo: Like I always say that hindsight is a beautiful thing. In this situation, I feel we will never know. There was a team decision and I couldn't impose my choice on the team. If we had to do it again with the same team members, I feel we will have to come down with the same people we nominated. At a certain point, you respect the decision of the other two member, this Sunday will tell us if we made the right decision. I am okay because we made the decision as team members having had like thirty minutes to do so, and I respect that.
BB: Where you surprised by the other team's choice?
Ozo: No I wasn't, I feel I knew how the nomination process was going to go. I feel like the HM felt I would go when I was standing with Kidd. I understand that situation because at a point in the game, you kind of start rooting for someone you are closer to, no hard feelings at all so I kind of knew my name was gonna come up. You can't hold anything over another person's head because they nominated you. Same as Dora. In our Team, I feel Neo wasnt gonna come up because Vee, tricky and Vee were more close to Neo. I had that in my head and I told my team that it was gonna be like that. In all, we just have to be focused and enjoy the house. So I wasn't surprise with the other group's decision because I felt they had to go with friendship, loyalty and other things.
BB: Which two HMs would you have nominated if it were a normal nomination process and why?
OZO: Laycon and Vee
I know that friendship and loyalty are the two words I have used alot here, and I believe in that. But at this point, one need to be a bit ruthless. I will go with Vee because if I had to choose, I will choose to put her up and Laycon too.
BB: There is a diff btw individual and team choice, how do you feel about that?
Ozo: I had to go with what the team wanted, I really can't feel hard by the decision we made, I had one vote but they had two.
BB: Out of the current nominated HM, list the names starting from the HM most deserving to be in the finally.
Ozo: Nengi, Neo Vee in that order.
BB: Nominated housemate Ozo
Ozo: Oh sorry, including myself?
BB: Are you nominated?
Ozo: Yes BB
BB: So what do you think.
Ozo: Ozo, Dorathy, TrickyTee and Laycon
BB: Would you like to discuss anything else with BB
Ozo: I am grateful being here. I feel like the microphone infringement is something I am really sorry about. Sometimes when I want to talk, my voice gets deep, so the microphone infridgement wasn't intentional. Coupled with the fact that I have gotten my first car from being in this show, I am really grateful for that.
BB: Apologize with a changed behaviour
Ozo: I will BB , thank you
Eeeeeennnnnnddd! Thank you |

quivah: No no. I am not blaming Laycon. But for someone who has always been telling people about Erica from his chycking days to their snobbish moments and then to the kiss but now he chose to mind his business after the person talked about wants to know or clear the issue on the ground. I really would have felt he lied against me too. I mean, you told other housemates I tried to kiss you( when i don't remember doing that). I got to know about this, and I kept saying to you, tell me what, how, and when it happened, but all of a sudden, you decided to mind your business ?! That's sh.it! I still feel if Laycon had the honour that discussion, none of this would have happened. I'm pretty sure by now, he is always thinking back to those moments Erica asked for explanations and why he didn't just answer. So yeah, laycon isn't all righteous. While Erica might be the architect of her problems, Laycon was the cause. There is something they say about motivation and effect.
PS; Lucy left and didn't want any one to hug her. That girl enh. Me likey. Why hug me when you want me out. What an exit, but i love it. Earlier in the week, Laycon said he didn’t want to talk to her cos he didn’t want a confrontation. If he had spoken to her and she went haywire and was disqualified everyone will still blame him for it. |
