Month of October was a memorable 1.....almost got impounded by taskforce at charity oshodi....
Got a trip from alli dada ago palace to MM1....
Google took me thru okota, ilasa, aswani DHL and thru a bending corner.... that road slope down wella.... on getting to that point, I knew something wasn't right, I saw a commercial bus down the road parked... and a police man.
Me: asked rider, e be like say this place na 1 way oo...
Rider: are you sure
Me: not too sure but Google is telling me there's a way there
Rider: okay na...
Na so I begin go oo... before I knew it the parked bus just blocked me from front...
In a prompt flash... my instincts just said REVERSE...
NA SO I TAKE REVERSE ON THAT HIGH SLOPE OO WITH MY MIRRORS because NO TIME TO LOOK BACK.
Their bus didn't have the power to climb the slope with that speed, I just saw them running after me with leg oo
Rider: pls no jam person oo
Rider: accident oo
The saving grace i had was a commercial bus that knew what had happened blocked incoming cars so I could climb up with me back
The next thing I saw was danfo driver and conductor dey hail me dey gimme thumbs up...
Rider: bros you try oo... dem for delay us here oo... especially with your new fine car.
I could take the alternative route, had to go thru oshodi road and to ewenla then back to the express then zoomed....
All thru that period I wasn't still talking.... took a deep breath and said....
Me: omo, on a Monday and 2nd trip.. dem wan ruin my day.
Rider: bros you lucky oo... I for just help you do wahala small leave you there oo because I can't miss my flight,.
Me: na so I for dash these bas.tards money with beg.
Na so I escape the scene oo.

This story dey sweet me like say I recover part of the money wey I pay that day. For emphasis sake, if you see anything like this below on your Google map around airport road, avoid it. It's a trap. Don't turn left. Quickly take right and get back into the express.

To link MM airport from there, the best route to take is aswani road into osolo way and make a u turn at the airport road overhead bridge. Look at the map in the second picture very well.

Hello Gazzuzz.

How car I get my car to your workshop? I stay in Lagos Mainland. My toyota corolla 04 vibrates and shudders when idle. It gets worse when I put on the AC. Then I noticed that this morning after starting it, it dragged for about two minutes before moving.

I had the spark plugs changed and nozzles serviced today but the situation didn't improve. Please help.

Buy aboniki balm. Rub on the scratch or stain and use cloth to clean. Goes off immediately and retains your former colour and body.
Brake oil leaves a mark on it, but aboniki doesn't

I'll definitely try this

Its possible, but wait a minute....are you in the "antleague" or "lazyD league"....This is a factor also....no jokes

What does league have to do with it? I took a trip to apapa recently and got scratched in five different places by those Okada riders while in traffic. You could avoid dents by defensive driving but frequent scratches are inevitable.

I really don't speak at first. I wait for them to start it. The only thing I tell them at first, is about connecting their phone to the android via Bluetooth, if they want to play their music. If they say they are fine, I usually just play gospel or radio.

Are you serious? grin
That's a bit unusual. See ehn, the most important thing to a rider (which should be your priority) is getting them safely to their location in the fastest possible time.

Any other thing like bluetooth, charger is an added advantage (that they should even be paying for). The requirement for bolt is having a radio!! If they want to listen to their music, they can get a headset and blast their ears away.

What I think can help your ratings is effective communication and compassion. This is how I begin:

Me: Good Evening...
Rider: Good Evening
Me: You're going to Lagos Island right?
Rider: Yes, I am.
Me: Alright, I'm starting the trip now.
Rider: Please go ahead.
Me: Okay....The map is saying 35 minutes. Should we take Third mainland or Eko bridge?
Rider: Anyone that's faster on the map.
Me: Alright.

Then I go silent.

Factors that affect your ratings:

NAVIGATION: Anytime the map suggest a faster route, I inform the rider before taking it. Riders do not like when you're taking them through an unfamiliar route so it's best to always carry them along before taking shortcuts or alternate routes.

PAYMENTS: Another thing to pay attention to is your attitude towards payment. You cannot be driving without a functional bank app. I mean, how can someone transfer money to you and you'll say, "wait let me see alert first". With your bank app, you'll get notified a lot quicker when money is sent to you. If you insist on seeing SMS alerts first, your ratings will continue to suffer grin.

CAR NOISE: Does your engine sound like a raging bull? Are your shocks, suspensions in order. You can't maintain a consistent high rating if your car gives off bad sounds. My car has been squealing and groaning for weeks due to bad shocks. I usually cover up by increasing the radio volume but sometimes riders tell me to turn it off completely and then I become exposed. You can guess what follows after grin

CONVERSATIONS: I usually don't initiate convos with riders, but once they start we will continue talking till we reach their destination. I've had G boys open up to me about what they put their hands into to make it. Married men and women have bothered my little head with their family issues etc. I don't mind because I know they're most likely to give a 5 star rating to someone they had an interesting conversation with and I learn a lot as well.

Typically, if you're good looking your female riders will come to the front seat. And if you can't hold a good gist with them, your ratings will dip. So free yourself.

CAR INTERIOR (Appearance and Scents): Put yourself in your rider's shoes. Will you be happy in a dirty, stinking Uber ride? Hell no! So do the needful.

YOUR VISAGE: Some Uber drivers would not even smile once during a trip. Bros! No be fight na? Your rider cracks a joke, you fail to laugh and you want 5-star rating. Are you normal? grin grin grin

grin Eko loius Hamilton.

Lagos Island is off the charts for me. No pick ups, no drop offs. If you had stopped, your riders would have left you to your fate. They can't be blamed either, you are the one behind the wheels.
That's why you are absolutely responsible for where you pick and drop. Not even Bolt or Uber.

Gmap is not reliable on the streets of Lagos Island. CBD touts are ruthless.

Louis Hamilton ke? Abeg oo. grin
I was lucky there wasn't any traffic. So it was easier to escape. Personally I don't like Lagos Island but my choices are limited. I can't be selecting trips early in the morning when I need to be at my desk by 8:00 AM.

Good Morning Pilots. How the hustle dey go? So I have officially been relegated to the league of the lazy drivers. Got a new job (8 to 5) so it's been difficult doing it along with this hustle. But it's all good.

Pilots taking trip to Lagos Island, you guys need to exercise caution oo. Especially if you don't know the area well. Yesterday morning while going to work, I took a destination trip to Lagos Island (I work in Ikoyi). I entered a street and these CBD boys were in front of me. One was waving a stick and the other started focusing his phone's camera on my plate number, probably for evidence.

I was already slowing down because they were directly in my path. Then my brain remembered one way, how I lost a huge sum of money to task force like 3 weeks ago. Omo! I just put my foot down on the pedal and started maneuvering. Turned left into one street and took the next right on full speed.

My riders were shouting. They didn't even understand what was going on. Eventually I escaped. So guys be careful. There are no signs whatsoever and Google maps is a bastard grin.

Wanted to go out today but I've opted to watch EPL. Something special is happening by 3PM today. wink

Monthly or weekly

Modified. Driving after work and on weekends to remit minimum of120k per month is unsustainable. Even if rental is reduced to 25k weekly. He should find another side hustle.

My prayer for him is that he quickly grows to a level in his career where he won't have to be driving Uber on weekends to meet his bills. Weekend when man suppose to dey rest. undecided

Good morning bosses,
I need your advice.
I started this hustle a month ago, and just this morning, I got a job of 170k at vi, I I stay at dopemu.

I'm thinking of doing the job then do uber Saturday/sunday.

But my issue is how to paying rent within the first one month of starting the job at the same time I dont want to lose this car I'm working.

Please I need your advice

First of all, congratulations on getting this job. However, I will advise you to jettison the idea of continuing this Uber hustle since the car isn't yours. Some people will say do it after work and on weekends. I'm not saying it's not feasible but it's highly unlikely to work simply because you are on rental. The pressure will be too much on you and could affect your productivity on the job.

There are other side hustles you can do apart from Uber on weekends that won't put you under so much pressure. Just think outside the box. Even if it's 30- 50k, you can add it to your salary rather than breaking your back to remit 30k weekly to someone.

With the ugly experience I encountered early this year? No!

You know coming from Oshodi towards the MMAI road, if you enter the expr through boladale you can access the MMAI rd easily joining in b4 7&8 b/s But if you enter through other links like Afariogun you won't be able to join the Oworo-Apapa expr Rd again. That's how they've done it now...

So now, it was an unfortunate day for me as construction workers where busy constructing the pavement so there was no other way to join the MMAI Rd unless through that slope that leads under the interchange and then back to the MMAI Rd, while and other interchange takes you back to the Oworo-Apapa Rd and maybe back to Oshodi/Anthony for those going that way. So I tried using that slope leading towards the MMAI Rd that was it ooh... No one-way road sign, nothing at all and as an experience driver and an someone that has understanding of road network couple with an engineering background there is no way you will ever argue with me that slope towards that MMAI Rd is a one-way.

You no police are always on that path, na so everywhere burst o... Unfortunately for me my rider said she was cold so I wind down and wasn't expecting anything of such at all because i was so sure that road is not one-way... Men...those idiots messed up my day. Na 25k I take settle dem collect my motor after much back and front... I just saw it that non of them are reasonable to talk with... Oya na make una charge me to mobile court na, them no gree... They where just dancing around...

2days later a man called on talk radio to complain about that same rd how police are cashing out on that rd with no one-way sign whatsoever...

I gave up more on that very day Nigeria.

Them burst me today. If you love yourself, avoid linking MMA1 through this route. I am currently nursing my wounds. This country is damned!

@ agent x. Sorry about your ordeal. If you are on acme going to akilo. You must be on the left lane. Probably you were on the right lane.

It's a unwritten rule, always central lock. 247.
Windows slightly up. If you are on the mainland.

Please explain further. I don't usually pass that route but help me understand. From ACME to Akilo road, you are either cutting left to Akilo road or cutting right. Why should you maintain left when you intend to make a right turn. I beg your Indulgence.

Or were you referring to the roundabout near Ogba magistrate court? See the pictures below.

People do not understand what is meant by "this life na per head". What works for Me A may not necessarily work for Mr B. The other day someone posted a question that made FP — how much is okay for a Nigerian graduate to earn as a minimum wage. Some people said 50k, some said 100k, some 150k, some 250k etc. Each answer valid because people will only comment based on their perspective.

Yes I understand, the economy has gone so bad that salaried employment doesn't currently seem ideal. Cheerfulgiver once mentioned that people earning 100k can barely afford to buy good work clothes which is very true! One piece of quality long sleeve shirt is around 7k now. Not to mention prices of shoes, ties, trousers, transport etc.

But I won't still advise anybody to quit a job of 150k and above (with good career prospects) to drive Uber. This hustle can be sweet especially when there's surge but it's not worth abandoning a promising career for.

Got a request some minutes ago, spoke with rider on the phone, in my head I profiled her, she would be a problem. Surulere to Mayfair gardens, I used rider app to check the estimate, 7k-8k5... I said to myself this rider won't pay this amount but I say make I fulfill all rights... Got to PU, waited some, then she came. Asked her if she knew the estimate she said No, her son made the request... I showed her the estimate, she said that's too high say she no fit pay... I said "I know", bye.

That is how I finished a trip this afternoon, rider called out like two of his family members who came and started speaking grammar for me. I just cross my hand dey rest for the side of my car. They were even asking me if the fee included taking them back to the pick up point. I for begin laugh but I no just dey in the mood.

After wasting like 15 minutes of my time arguing and asking jamb questions, the most senior guy among them brought out his phone and reluctantly transferred the money with a frown plastered on his face.

Some people don't even bother to check the prices before ordering. Whether it's on surge or not. For me, that's irresponsible. It's like entering a restaurant and not bothering to know the prices of items on the menu.

But who should be blamed? The cost of maintaining automobiles has skyrocketed recently. So definitely cost of transportation should increase.

Nigerians have this mentality that once you are an Uber driver, it is either;

1) You didn't graduate from school or,
2) You graduated but never got a lucrative job
3) You had no other option but to borrow, rent a car and drive like a miser around Lagos.

I won't lie, before I started driving on bolt I used to think like that. In fact, if the car wasn't flashy I would never imagine that the rider owned the car.

I don't even want to go into some details but you see some of these riders, don't be surprised if they do not have up to one-tenth of the money in your account balance. Some people just like to dey overdo themselves.

This morning I was talking to a colleague and he said one day when the Uber driver he took was trying to confirm his transfer, he saw over two million naira in his account balance and he was like, "na me wey no get up to 300k for account dey balance for owner's side?". He was shocked.

I know people who own businesses, landed properties in Lagos and drive Uber. Many of them are here. Some people just do it to kill boredom. Some dey use am gather money for other plans. I don too talk sef. Make people continue to dey mumu themselves.

At the bolded... Thank you sir!

A driver is at the security post and you as a rider expecting him/her yet you won't even call to give that convenience and when the driver calls you start asking irrelevant questions like what's your name? For heaven sake, didn't you see the name or the color of my car on your app?? Its so annoying.

Little wonder one told pearl1910 he was driving a different car. Just imagine the unremorseful stupidity.

Yes I know I'm a fucking uber driver the moment I turn on my app to accept request but that shouldn't make you disrespect me as a person like I've no value whatsoever, as a matter if fact you should know your life is in the hands of that man behind the wheel while on that trip so you don't wanna do anything to make him feel inferior or angry else some psycho can just drive you into something you never bargain for.

The level of disrespect I have seen from some riders is just something else. I know we don't talk about it often here but it is so baffling. I don't even understand the mentality behind it. A driver is just a service provider as everyone else and deserves some courtesy at the least. Honestly if not for ratings, I don't think it would be that bad.

One thing every driver should know is: the same way you get up in the morning to hustle for your daily bread is the same way those lastma/police/cbd get up to hunt you down and take your hard earned cash. This is their hustle too.

These guys know the places where people easily make driving errors (most likely due to lack of adequate road signs) and they will be waiting for you.

So just be careful!!

These you mentioned are what good drivers are meant to do when driving but majority of drivers in Nigeria will know he is turning right at the end of the road but will still maintain left and turn at the late time.

There are driving instructions to follow but a large percentage of Nigerian drivers didn't go to driving school, even some driving schools do not teach the right way.

It's not all drivers that do it on purpose. I'll rather blame it on lack of adequate road signs.

You know there's always constant surge in Lagos Island (Broad street, Marina axis) because drivers avoid that place like a plague. Two weeks ago, I got a request in that area. I told the rider specifically that I was coming from Broad Street.

She said I should meet her at Kakaki street. I drove from Broad street into KaKaki street and parked there. When the lady entered, she then told me that it's one way...that assuming it was in the afternoon, those CBD boys would have jumped on me. In my mind, I was like so why didn't you give me any heads up earlier??

But I remember checking the street junction for one way/do not enter signs. I didn't see any!!

YOU Don sort am out?though I no understand ur write up

Thankfully, I saw this. There's a funny trap along okota road/ago palace way junction. On getting to the junction, there is a long arrangement of cones on the road, dividing it into two. If you're coming from Oshodi-Apapa express way or Ijesha going towards Ikotun always keep to your right. Don't drag with anybody. Just maintain your right up till you get to the roundabout.

If you don't understand that place, you may find yourself on the left side of the cones. When this happens, just turn left into ago palace way and make a U-turn at 250 metres or so. Forget about the traffic or your rider who may be shouting at you. Don't try to be smart and turn back right in between the cones else you would become soup for lastma/police.

Even if there's no traffic, don't turn and try to zoom off. Believe me, they will give you a hot chase!!

Some riders will be gracious enough to direct you well. I notice male riders are more eager to help a driver avoid pitfalls like this.
