Former Nigeria goalkeeper Greg Etafia has
been named caretaker coach of South African
side Moroka Swallows.
The 33-year-old who has been with the South
African giants since 2003 will be hoping to
revive the fading fortunes of the Volkswagen
Dobsonville Stadium giants who were
relegated from the Absa Premiership last
season.
Swallows sit at the base of the South African
Division One log from 11 points from 21
games and have not won a league match
since November 7.
Etafia would be hoping to lead the Birds past
SuperSport United in the last-32 of the
Nedbank Cup at Dobsonville Stadium on
Tuesday.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers today swore in
Justice Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra, an Edo state
indigene as the substantive Chief Judge of the
state less than 24 hours after nine members of
the State House of Assembly confirmed her as
substantive chief judge of the state.
The governor said that he has sworn to oath of
office to always do what is right. “They claimed
that this administration not allow non-indigenes
to breath. They said if we are voted in, we will
chase non-indigenes away. But I believe in the
laid precedent and the promotion of the best
practices in governance “.
The state government in a statement signed by
Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the
Governor for electronic media, said the installation
of Justice Laminkara is line with the
recommendation of the National Judicial Council,
NJC, and the approval of the Rivers State House
of Assembly.
Wike advised the judiciary not to be influenced by
the antics of politicians, saying that, they must
uphold the rule of law at all times.
Performing the swearing-in of Iyayi-Lamikanra
who is an indigene of Edo State, Wike charged
judges of the Rivers State Judiciary to be
courageous in their dispensation of justice in line
with the tenets of the law.
The governor assured the judiciary that he will
continue to support the arm of government to
dutifully serve the people of Rivers state. He noted that he worked towards the emergence of the substantive Chief Judge on the premise laid down, despite the petitions by some persons against Justice Iyayi-Lamikanra on the basis that she is not an indigene of the state. “Judges should not allow politicians to manipulate them to cause crisis in the judiciary.” Wike said those opposed to the emergence of Justice Iyayi-Lamikanra on the premise that she is not an indigene of Rivers State, must realise that she was appointed Magistrate and Judge in the state without anyone raising questions on her state of origin. He added that though the arms of government must work independently, there must be cooperation for the development of the state. The governor urged Justice Iyayi-Lamikanra to carry her brother-judges along for stability in the judiciary. Responding, the newly sworn in substantive Chief Judge of Rivers state, Justice Adama Iyayi- Lamikanra assured the people of Rivers state that she would dispense justice in line with the law. She said that she will ensure that the Rivers State Judiciary develops to the envy of others in the country. |

Despite economic crunch, the Lagos Internal
Revenue Service, LIRS, raked N24.5 billion into
the state government’s coffer in just one month
as part of Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
This is coming as the Lagos State Government
vowed that the era of tax evasion in the state
was over, stressing that, government has put
machinery in place to aggressively enforce the tax
law in order to shore up revenue.
Commissioner for Finance, Mustapha Akinkunmi
disclosed at a news conference organised by the
LIRS in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria
on Tuesday, that in January, 2016, the LIRS
contributed N24.5 billion in revenue to the coffer
of the state government.
Akinkunmi said the current government is issuing
policies aimed at aligning the economy with these
goals, which would set the state on a path to
growth and stability as evidenced by the major
developments implemented by LIRS.
According to the commissioner, the N24.5 billion
revenue generation by LIRS in January amounted
to 98 percent budget performance for that month
and recording 12 percent growth from the same
period in 2014.
He added that despite the harsher economic
terrain presented in 2015, the state managed to
realize increased revenue, off the back of
collections from taxpaying members of the public,
adding that in 2015, the LIRS had contributed 79
percent to IGR in 2015.
“This equated to 56 percent of the state’s total
revenue, including Federal Transfers. The total
revenue achieved in 2015 was just short of N400
billion and is expected to continue growing, driven
by strong tax collection.
“This administration has been able to make
significant investment in security apparatus
across the state and has provided street-lighting
across the state. We are reducing costs through
investment in technology which is a powerful tool
for cost reduction through efficient
administration,” he said.
State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for
Justice, Adeniji Kazeem warned that the era of
people evading tax in Lagos was gradually
coming to an end as government would expand
the tax net to cover lots of the working
population.
Kazeem vowed that government would now begin
aggressive enforcement of the tax law and go
after tax evaders and ensure that they were
prosecuted and sent to jail.
He stated that the state government would set up
a Rapid Tax Prosecution Unit to partner the LIRS
to prosecute tax offenders in court, adding that
“tax dodger, watch out, we will get you.” |

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter Okhiria, the Governor said “Our attention has been drawn to the unprovoked verbal assault launched by one Senator Dino Melaye on the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, while making a contribution on the floor of the Senate on the need to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods. As a “nephew” of the Governor and members of the same party, we expected Senator Melaye to tender an unreserved public apology to the Comrade Governor, to no avail. It is an open secret that Senator Melaye cannot maintain a decent matrimonial home hence he could descend to this pedestrian level of using the hallowed chambers to “cargorise” women as if they were pieces of items for purchase. Any responsible individual that is truly worth to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum and decent public conduct, should know the limits of his verbal diarrhea. The liberty of free speech guaranteed in the hallowed chambers does not impose lunacy on anyone to disparage other Nigerians, let alone pry into their matrimony in a very derisive manner. We had intended to ignore this uncomplimentary comment as one of the several empty displays of the Senator, but the fact that it tends to reduce women to pieces of tissue calls for this response. As we probed into Dino Melaye’s humanity, we were reminded that he is a man known for his vainglorious rodomontade and the childish display of his ostentatious lifestyle complements his love for foreign items. Many of such euro-centric mentality he has persistently displayed on social media, to underscore his materialistic eccentricity, hence his dialectical opposition to made-in-Nigeria goods. But an attempt at making women wear the garb of goods to be picked off the shelves was to take the issue to a ridiculous and irresponsible level. By delving into the private affair and marriage of the Comrade Governor, Senator Melaye has exposed himself as a simpleton and a court jester whose words and tactlessness cannot be taken seriously by matured people. We advise that Melaye should mend his ways with his ex-wife and concubines before coming to the village square to display his crass ignorance and emptiness to the Nigerian people. If he has anything to offer, Dino Melaye should concentrate on making good laws for the people of Nigeria rather than descend to a ridiculous level, thus displaying to the whole world his unworthiness to sit in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate. allanphash7:Correct, your mama born you well ![]() |
Please, can somebody help me out. What is the right or normal weight for a 21 months old baby? At birth, she weighed about 3.4kg, there after in the course of her growing up over the months, she was fat and weighing between 16kg to 18kg, but just of recent, she has not only reduced drastically, but her body weight is about 12kg now. But the nurse has advised that there is nothing to be worried about, that the present 12kg is very normal and ok for her age. The Nurse further said that the 18kg she weighed earlier in her developmental process, was not too good for her age. The baby is okay, but for the current hot weather, which causes a lot of heat that causes discomfort to her, particularly at nights and this makes her temperature high. Please advise on the true position, whether it's normal or not and if not, what is the remedy? Thanks |
