...why We Deserve the Leaders We Get In recent times, the grim specter of preventable mortality has resurfaced with a vengeance in Akwa Ibom's public health facilities. Heartbreaking cases from Etinan and Ikot Ekpene have made headlines, while countless others go unnoticed and unrecorded. These are not isolated incidents but symptoms of a systemic failure that contributes to Nigeria's devastatingly high maternal mortality rate, one of the worst in the world. Consider the scene: a pregnant woman, her face etched with pain and anxiety, is rushed into a Nigerian public hospital. The corridors are choked with people, the air thick with the scent of antiseptic and despair. Overwhelmed and often underpaid, medical staff move with a sense of worn-out nonchalance, their professional passion eroded by a broken system. Doctors, compelled by inadequate salaries, are often forced to prioritize their private clinics, leaving public wards critically understaffed. In this under-resourced facility, where functional equipment is a luxury, she is taking a devastating gamble with her life and the life of her unborn child. The statistics are cruelly not in her favour. Now, hold that image. At that very moment, the wife of a public official—a lawmaker who oversees the health budget meant to revitalize that very hospital—is settling into a private suite in a world-class medical facility in London or Dubai. For her, the greatest risk has been mitigated by a plane ticket. The world’s best obstetricians, state-of-the-art equipment, and a near-zero mortality rate are her assured reality. Her safety and that of her child have been purchased by the public treasury they were entrusted to manage. This is not a hypothetical scenario. It is a stark, recurring parable of the Nigerian condition. It is the clearest possible metaphor for the vast chasm between the governing and the governed. Yet, as the poignant saying goes, come 2027, the same woman who risked death in that dilapidated maternity ward may be offered a paltry sum—N1000, a bag of rice, or a promise as thin as air—and will once again cast a vote for the very political class that has demonstrated, in the most personal way possible, that they do not value her life. This is where the painful, uncomfortable truth hits home. The lament—“Nigerians, we deserve the kind of things happening to us... we deserve our kind of leaders because they are a direct reflection of who we truly are”—shifts from a bitter accusation to a sobering mirror. Our leaders are not aliens who descended from a different planet to torment us. They emerged from our communities. They are a product of our collective values, our shortcuts, our compromises, and our silences. When we celebrate the “success” of the politician who steals enough to send his entire family abroad for medical care, instead of holding him accountable for not fixing our hospitals, we endorse his values. When we collect that N1000 during election season, we are not just victims of poverty; we become active participants in a destructive transaction. We are trading our long-term security, our children’s future, and our very dignity for immediate, short-term relief. We are declaring that our vote—our sovereign power—is worth less than a day’s meal. We sign an unspoken contract that absolves them of any real responsibility to us. Why should they fix the hospitals if their own families will never use them? Why provide electricity, good roads, or quality education if our approval can be so cheaply rented every four years? The politician who flies his wife abroad is simply acting in a rational self-interest that we have permitted. He has understood the assignment: manage the perception, not the reality; service the immediate demand of the voters, not their long-term needs. Breaking this cycle requires a painful but necessary awakening. It demands that we move from a mentality of survival to one of sovereignty. It means valuing the permanent power of our collective vote over the temporary relief of a token. It means demanding accountability not just every four years at the polls, but every single day through relentless civic engagement, holding feet to the fire, and supporting institutions that promote transparency. The change we seek will not begin in the halls of power. It must begin in our minds. It starts when we look in the mirror and decide that we are worth more than N1000. That our lives are worth more than a gamble in a broken hospital. That our children deserve a future built on merit, not on connections. Until we truly, deeply believe that, we will continue to get the leaders we deserve. The ball, as always, is in our court to change while Nigeria keeps happening to us at the main time. Just pray it's not you tomorrow. I remain your one and only Udo-Akagha Inyang aka #ChiefPriest writing from one of the hills of Federal Capital, Abuja.

While fame may come quickly, true success is measured by character, not clout. Instead of chasing fleeting trends, we should celebrate those who build with integrity—because real influence lasts longer than viral moments. Nigeria has no shortage of inspiring figures—innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders who create value without compromising their morals. These are the people we should uplift, not those who gain fame through controversy or crime. Healthy societies are built by citizens who value hard work, creativity, and justice. If we want better leaders tomorrow, we must celebrate better role models today. Why glamorize shortcuts when true achievement comes from dedication? Progress happens when intelligence, skill, and ethical effort are rewarded—not when chaos is mistaken for success. Imagine if we poured the same energy into celebrating scientists, educators, and honest business leaders and young hardworking ladies like Ruth Fabian and others as we do into fleeting internet drama. What kind of future could we build? Every generation inherits the values of the one before it. If we glorify integrity, the next wave of leaders will strive for excellence. If we reward hard work, young people will see that success comes from perseverance, not exploitation. The choice is ours: Will we leave behind a legacy of wisdom or one of wasted potential? THE CHALLENGE AHEAD Let’s shift the narrative. Instead of asking, "Where are the past viral stars now?" let’s ask, "Who is making a real, lasting impact?" Fame fades, but character endures. The future is shaped by what we celebrate today. What—and who—will you choose to uplift? I remain Udo-Akagha Inyang writing from one of the hills of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja

By Peters Buhari Eket, Nigeria – A scathing open letter addressed to the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Akaniyene Tommey, has ignited fresh controversy over alleged mismanagement, lack of transparency, and silence in the face of public discontent. The letter, penned by journalist Peters Buhari, highlights three major grievances that have left residents frustrated and demanding answers: 1. ₦7,000 BURSARY SPARKS OUTRAGE Students in Eket were left stunned when bursary payments of just ₦7,000 were disbursed—a sum described as "an insult" to the academic community. Despite widespread condemnation, the chairman has yet to address the students directly or justify the meager amount. 2. ALLEGED FAVORITISM IN ₦50 MILLION EMPOWERMENT SCHEME A ₦50 million empowerment program, meant to support local entrepreneurs and traders, has come under fire after reports emerged that political allies received preferential treatment. Some beneficiaries allegedly got less than the promised ₦100,000 or nothing at all, while others with no clear business need were reportedly prioritized. 3. QUESTIONABLE REVENUE FIGURES Eket, a bustling commercial hub, has been reporting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) figures that critics say do not reflect its economic potential. The letter suggests that even motorcycle riders alone could generate more revenue than what has been officially declared, raising suspicions of mismanagement or underreporting. A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY Buhari’s letter accuses the chairman of neglecting his duty to address these concerns, warning that silence implies "complicity or indifference." He urged immediate action, including: - A public address to the people of Eket - A review of the bursary disbursement process - An investigation into the empowerment scheme’s beneficiary list - A full audit of revenue collection and spending "Leadership is not only about groundbreaking projects and ribbon-cutting ceremonies," the letter reads. "It is about how you handle public concerns, especially when the questions are uncomfortable." FINAL WARNING: "Eket Is Watching" The letter concludes with a stark reminder: "You were elected by the people. You owe them not silence, but service." With public frustration mounting, pressure is building on the chairman to break his silence and take corrective action. As the situation unfolds, residents, activists, and observers await a response—one that could either restore trust or deepen the growing discontent in Eket. Peters Buhari (New Born Journalist)

Grassroot Education in Nigeria: Bridging Policy and Practice for National Transformation. By Ekemini N. David, MTRCN In the last years, Nigeria’s educational journey has been shaped significantly by the National Policy on Education, the blueprint for learning and development across all levels. However, translating this comprehensive policy into practical outcomes at the grassroots remains a lingering challenge. As a nation striving for growth, the federal government, particularly through the Ministry of Education must embrace data-driven implementation and strategic community engagement to achieve meaningful impact. In the last five years, the Education Sector Analysis and UNESCO indicators have proven that Nigeria has made progress in expanding access to education. Yet, the numbers also reveal the dire need for urgent intervention. For instance, despite a net enrollment rate of 68.8% in primary schools, over 10.5 million Nigerian children remain out of school, with a large portion residing in rural and remote communities. Nigeria also faces a significant shortage of over 277,537 qualified teachers at the basic education level, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects, not missing the daunting state of infrastructure, as more than 40% of public primary schools lack access to clean water, functional classrooms, or adequate toilet facilities. Compounding these issues is the absence of timely and reliable data, which continues to hinder effective planning and localized educational reforms. These gaps underline a disconnect between policy formulation and actual implementation. Bridging this divide requires more than just meetings and paper works , it demands a strategic overhaul driven by real-time data, community participation, and accountable industry leadership. To improve policy implementation and to help basic education work, there must continually be an impressive budgetary commitment every year. The federal and state governments would have to increase education allocations to atleast, meet the UNESCO’s recommended benchmark of 15-20% of total public expenditure. This funding should be directed and monitored towards addressing core issues from infrastructure to provision of instructional and teaching aids and importantly, the welfare of teachers. This may sound weird, but I feel like a robust grassroot data management systems is essential. Each of the 774 Local Government Areas in the country, should be on an integrated Education Management Information System kind of, linked to the federal ministry of education. This system should be manned by trained local data officers, to ensure accurate and timely data collection that informs decisions tailored to specific school needs across different communities. This system to me, should be able to offer data from monitoring and evaluation processes with the help of local stakeholders (Local government monitoring committees, village education committees, developmental organizations, even parents and the community etc) who are better positioned to identify pressing issues and contribute meaningfully to problem-solving strategies. Going forward, capacity building for educators remains non-negotiable. Regular hands-on and real-time trainings in alliance with evolving curricula, relevant certification programs, and incentives for teachers in the grassroots, must be institutionalized. I believe strongly that when educators are sufficiently supported and motivated, the quality of education delivered significantly improves. Lastly, there is a need for digital inclusion to be leveraged in for educational interventions. The world is evolving and we can't implement policies in isolation of the fact that the outcomes of these implementations must fit reliably with global expectation and standards. In such lights, there should be an intentional efforts to provide digital amenities, that can help learning, teaching, academic planning. Technology for me offers a scalable means to bridge the education gap across geographic and socioeconomic divides. To secure the future of millions of Nigerian children, there's need to transition from policy on paper to action in classrooms. The promise of the National Policy on Education can only be fulfilled if we bring governance closer to the people, through informed decisions, inclusive planning, and continuous accountability. The Ministry of Education must lead this revolution, but it will take the collective effort of local governments, school administrators, communities, and development partners to make Nigeria’s education truly work for all.

The Dominance of European Football in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Slap on Our Local League Management Football is more than just a sport in Africa—it is a passion, a unifying force, and a source of national pride. However, while African fans passionately support European clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Barcelona, the domestic Leagues struggles to attract the same level of enthusiasm. This overwhelming preference for foreign leagues over the local ones is a glaring indictment of the poor management and leadership of football in Africa. The European Football Craze in Africa Walk through any African neighborhood on weekends, and you will see fans clad in the jerseys of European clubs, packed into viewing centers, cheering for teams thousands of miles away. The English Premier League, La Liga, and UEFA Champions League dominate conversations, while our local league matches often go unnoticed. Several factors contribute to this phenomenon: 1. Superior Quality & Exposure – European leagues boast world-class players, state-of-the-art stadiums, and high-level organization, making them more appealing. 2. Media Coverage & Accessibility – European matches are widely broadcast, while African League games suffer from poor media presence and inconsistent scheduling. 3. Sponsorship & Financial Power – European clubs attract massive sponsorships, enabling them to invest in talent and infrastructure, while African leagues struggles with funding. However, the deeper issue is not just the allure of European football but the systemic failure of Africa's football administrators to create a competitive and attractive domestic league. The Failure of African League Management CAF has been plagued by mismanagement, corruption, and a lack of vision. Key issues include: *1. Poor Infrastructure & Unprofessionalism* Many African stadiums are in deplorable condition, lacking basic facilities like good pitches, functioning floodlights, and proper seating. Match scheduling is erratic, and games are sometimes postponed without proper communication, frustrating fans and sponsors. 2. Lack of Investment & Sponsorship Unlike European leagues, which attract billionaire owners and global brands, African leagues suffer from inconsistent sponsorship deals and poor financial management. Clubs struggle to pay players’ salaries on time, leading to frequent strikes and loss of talent. 3. Player Exodus & Lack of Talent Retention Due to poor wages and lack of growth opportunities, Africa's best talents flee to Europe, Asia or America at the first opportunity. While exporting talent is not inherently bad, the lack of a strong domestic league means Africa fails to build a sustainable football culture. 4. Weak Marketing & Fan Engagement European clubs invest heavily in marketing, social media, and fan engagement. In contrast, African clubs barely have functional websites or active social media presence. There is little effort to attract younger fans or create matchday experiences that rival the excitement of European football. 5. Corruption & Administrative Instability Frequent leadership changes, allegations of match-fixing, and poor governance have eroded trust in the African football systems. Without transparent and visionary leadership, the league cannot progress. What Can Be Done? For African football to regain its pride, drastic reforms are needed: 1. Infrastructure Upgrade – Government and private investors must renovate stadiums and training facilities to meet international standards. 2. Improved Governance – CAF and club owners must adopt transparent, professional management practices. 3. Better Marketing & Broadcasting Deals – CAF and individual Countries Football League bodies should partner with media houses to ensure widespread coverage and attract sponsors. 4. Youth Development & Talent Retention – Academies should be strengthened, and clubs must offer competitive wages to keep top players longer. 5. Fan Engagement Initiatives – Clubs should organize community outreach, affordable ticketing, and exciting matchday experiences to draw fans back to local stadiums. Conclusion The dominance of European football in Africa is not just a preference—it is a direct consequence of African Leagues failure. While African fans cannot be blamed for seeking better entertainment, the football administrators must take responsibility for the league’s decline. Until CAF is run with professionalism, transparency, and ambition, Africa's football culture will remain in the shadows of Europe’s glamorous leagues. The time for change is now. African football deserves better leadership, better management, and, most importantly, leagues that its people can truly be proud of. I remain Udo-Akagha Inyang writing from the streets of Nigeria.

In today’s fast-paced Nigerian society, the allure of material possessions has become an undeniable force influencing the aspirations and identities of many young people. This gen-z generation, is navigating a society transformed by consumer culture, social media, and an unprecedented economy. From luxury brands to the latest tech gadgets, lifestyle choices are increasingly characterized by a quest for possessions that not only give pleasure but also serve as status symbols. This article aims to explore the societal factors contributing to the glorification of materialism among Nigerian youths and the implications that this phenomenon has on individual identities and communities. THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA One of the most significant catalysts for the materialistic values held by most Nigerian Youths is the rise of social media platforms. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat bombard users with images of extravagant lifestyles. Influencers and celebrities, often showcased in luxurious surroundings and adorned with the latest fashions, set a precedent for what is desirable. Youths now brag of wearing a $100 jeans, carrying a $80 bag or watch, even when our currency is Naira. The other day, a female celebrity showcase a watch and said she bought it for $1000 Research has shown that repeated exposure to curated content can shape individual perceptions of wealth and success, as a result, it's no longer surprising to see young Nigerians find themselves measuring their self-worth against the unattainable lifestyles portrayed online, fostering a deeper craving for material goods which has successfully led many into illegitimate means of making money(wealth). THE ROLE of ADVERTISING and BRAND CULTURE The current advertising ecosystem reinforces materialistic ideals by portraying branded goods as the key to happiness. Brands like Apple use top Nigerian celebrities to advertise their latest iPhone series to a young Nigerian population that barely earns over $200 monthly via decent work. Advertisements often link products with positive emotions, social acceptance, and lifestyle aspirations. This strategy plays on the psychological tendency to associate one’s identity with their possessions. Youth engagement with brand culture shapes their self-identities, making the consumption of specific products not just about utility but about signaling social status and group affiliation. The phenomenon of “joining the latest trend” is driving an arms race of material accumulation. PEER PRESSURE and IDENTITY FORMATION Peer pressure is not a new concept; however, its manifestations have evolved with the technological landscape. In a Society where social validation often comes in the form of “likes” and comments, the pursuit of material goods can feel like a necessity for social acceptance. A Nigerian youth may find him/her self caught in a cycle where the need to display wealth through possessions overshadows relationships and intrinsic values. As material goods come to define social circles, friendships may pivot on consumers’ abilities to showcase their latest acquisitions, leading to superficial connections rooted in material wealth rather than genuine interpersonal bonds. THE CONSEQUENCES of MATERIALISM While the allure of material wealth may be compelling, the glorification of materialism carries several drawbacks. Extensive research has linked materialistic values with lower levels of overall happiness and life satisfaction. When individuals place their self-worth in possessions, they risk chronic dissatisfaction, as such fulfillment is fleeting and often leads to a constant desire for more. Beyond individual consequences, rising materialism can foster division within communities, as disparities become more visible and envy ensues. Those with fewer resources may feel marginalized, while the wealthy are often viewed through a lens of both admiration and resentment. FINDING A a BALANCE In the face of these rising trend of materialism acquisition, it is crucial for Nigerian youths to engage in critical reflection regarding their values and aspirations. Promoting alternatives to materialism—such as experiences, relationships, and personal growth—can contribute to a more balanced sense of self-worth. Communities, Religious leaders and Educators can play a pivotal role by teaching 'contentment' among youths and fostering environments where non-material achievements are celebrated. The challenge lies in guiding this generation towards a path that values depth over superficiality, encouraging them to recognize that true fulfillment cannot be bought. CONCLUSION The glorification of materialism among Nigerian youths is a multifaceted issue rooted in societal changes, economic realities, and the pervasive influence of social media. While the desire for material possessions is an inherent part of human nature, it is essential to cultivate a culture that prioritizes intrinsic values over consumerism. By fostering critical awareness and promoting alternative measures of success, society can nurture a generation that finds satisfaction and identity beyond the confines of material wealth, ultimately leading to a more connected and empathetic world. Because at the end of it all, we will all die one day and get lowered 6ft underground. So what is all these desperation to acquire latest this and that for when even the country that manufactures these luxuries, their citizens don't even give too much credence or importance to them. Nigeria and Africa at large then seems to become a dumping ground for it all. I ask, Is the quest for all these materialism worth it? What has the President got to do with this post? SerpentAWOLOWO: |
In a recent development in Akwa Ibom State, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno allocated operational vehicles to Akwa Ibom Legislatures and Judiciary staff. While this is a welcome development, but ever since the return of Democracy in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom, I keep seeing operational vehicles being donated to Politicians (Legislatures), while the main people that are heavily involved in nation building (the teachers) continue to be looked down on, using the popular phrase; "Teachers reward is in heaven" to keep making the teachers not speak out on this uncomfortable treatment by Political office holders. While teachers continue to face challenges without adequate support, funding or resources. This decision keeps making me to raise questions about priorities in state funding and the long-term impacts on Education. While The Governor’s decision to provide operational vehicles to the Legislatures is framed as a move to enhance the efficiency and mobility of state lawmakers. It is also important to understand that they is no Legislature who was not taught by a Teacher. Teachers play the most crucial role in shaping the future of the state/nation at large. They are not only responsible for imparting knowledge but also for nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and social skills in their people. . Teachers work so hard every single day including even Sundays, yet they are the least valued in the society, instead of being the most valued. Teaching is so difficult that I can't stand the "stop noise" shouting to bring a serene environment for learning, not to talk of going extra mile to educate a child who may not be very smart in a particular subject area. The stress a teacher goes through to bring out the best in a student is enough to fly them in private jet and pay them the highest income in a sane society. Honestly, No teacher is supposed to walk on foot. Despite their indispensable role, teachers often find themselves underfunded and overburdened, facing challenges such as inadequate classroom resources, low salaries, and a lack of professional development opportunities. Recent surveys and reports have highlighted that many Educators are dipping into their own pockets to provide basic supplies for their classrooms. This discrepancy, in contrast to the resources allocated for operational vehicles, showcases a troubling gap in how the state invests in its workforce, particularly in the education sector. THE LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES The decision to prioritize Legislatures over Teachers has broader implications. Research consistently shows that well-funded Educational systems lead to better outcomes for students, including higher graduation rates and improved knowledge in the society at large. When teachers are given the tools and support they need, they are better equipped to foster a productive learning environment. Conversely, neglecting Educators can lead to high turnover rates and job dissatisfaction which we are witnessing in Nigeria today. When teachers leave the profession due to lack of support, students bear the brunt of this instability, which can stymie their educational and personal growth. CALL FOR ACTION School heads also deserve operational vehicles, Teachers deserve improved welfare, While not neglecting better funding for classroom resources, professional development opportunities, and a focus on reducing class sizes to improve learning conditions. As the Governor's decision continues to resonate across the state, it underscores an urgent need for a reevaluation of priorities. Investing in teachers is, ultimately, an investment in the future of the state. For the legislature to function effectively, it also depends on a well-educated populace. Bridging the gap between resources for Lawmakers and Educators will require concerted efforts and commitment from all stakeholders involved, especially the governor and President, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and that those who teach them are adequately supported. The call for a balanced and equitable approach to funding has never been more critical. UNIZIK SAGA: Ex-Nat'l students president, Comrd. Ekemini David speaks on deteriorating values. We are gradually degenerating into a loosed moral society. I can’t believe grown-ups would justify outright insult on an elderly person from a girl young enough to be the man’s third child, because of a TikTok video, done at an inappropriate place, at an inappropriate time, in an institution of higher learning. Just because the lecturer insisted he should be excused to go about his business. I have been a bachelors student and I am already a PG school student, even at Doctoral level, lecturers are respected even by students older than them or their mates. If you won’t regard a lecturer for any reason, respect the fact that it’s not a mean task studying to be addressed as an academic Doctor or to even rise through the demanding academic system or ranks in any public university in the world. It is even worrisome to find people suggest scholarships for the girl. I have no issue with scholarships, but isn’t it defeating that scholarships are now rewards for broken values and characters? What exactly are we teaching the new generation? be woke, untamed and insolent, you’ll earn foreign scholarships? If our schools do not adjust individual characters desirably as part of the wholesome learning process, then we’ve failed. As expected of a framed public, always believing that anytime it has to do with a female student and male lecturer, it must be that attempts on advances were made and one wonders, advances to sensitively touch a girl in an eye-stucked public? It is cultural and very moral to respect elders in this clime. If this reality is a difficult one to keep up with, then leave the institution.

By Manfred Ekpe., Jnr., LL.B (Hons) I am inclined to say that all is not well with Eket Local Government under the leadership of Mr. Akaniyene Tommey Ikott. Since inauguaration of the newly (s)elected local councils, some council chairmen have hit the ground running showing that they are ready to work for their people despite the suspected criminal diversion of local government funds by the Governor Umo Eno's administration. We can mention the newly selected chairmen of Esit Eket, Onna and a few other LGAs who are on ground working since innauguration. Mrs Uduak Ikemesit Ikot the Esit Eket council chairman has initiated some intervention initiatives to empower the people or cushion the effect of economic hardship. Some of these interventionist measures include but not limited to arrangement to give business grants to Esit Eket indigenes who have kiosks in the Christmas villages at Eket and Uyo. Appointment of several aides to the council chairman which is a form of empowerment etc. The Onna council chairman started his administration by carrying out inspection of council secretariat so as to have a first hand data on the amount needed for maintenance. He has also initiated several life touching programs and initiatives for his people. The moves of some council chairmen to hit the ground running shows that the financial autonomy granted to the local government, has trickled in at least, "something" into the local government treasury, though financial autonomy cannot be completely allowed in Akwa Ibom State under a pastor Governor Umo Eno. Notwithstanding the financial impecuniosity of the local councils, the situation of abdication from duty in Eket local government by the council seems to be extreme and a total lack of the passion to work for the people. In Eket Local Government Area the council chairman, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey Ikott is completely out of touch with administration nor has any interest to run Eket. There is no single good road in Eket. Major roads have deep potholes designing the entire lengths of the roads. We can mention Eket/Oron road, Grace Bill Road, Ikot Udoma—Ikot Usoekong road, Uqua road, Afaha Uqua road, and virtully all roads in. Important to mention are the pits on the Uqua Junction, and Uqua road/Isong Udoita/Umana Ndon street turning. This is the centre of the township yet the local government under Mr Tommey cannot as much as effect any repairs, road maintenance being the first line constitutional duty of the local government. Urua Nka is now a dumpside and smells like abandoned decaying corpes. The same can be said of other government owned markets. The streets are dirty and the prestigious Esuene Square seems never to have been swept since inauguration in 2022. Though we believe that the Lagos retreat of all the (s)elected local government chairmen organized for them by the state government was to give them crimimal orientation on how to turn over the local government funds to a select official criminal in the state government for embezzlement, but we also understand that "pocket money" is usually given to the chairmen which can affect a few lives and can effect some administrative demands such as road maintenance, provision of water and cleaning up of the townships. But the Eket local government chairman has dutifully abandoned his official duty to live in the United States for three weeks and Nigeria for one week every month. This makes our loving chairman to effectively reside in the skies. Dear Honourable chairman sir, we did not elect you to live in the sky. Please land and work. Manfred Ekpe, jnr 13/12/2024. It's been over 60yrs now since African nations started gaining independence from their colonial masters. Independence came with a sense of believe and readiness to lead one self. It's believed that Africans had said they are ready to lead themselves going forward, so the Europeans handed over power and went back to their continent. But 60yrs after, African Leaders still shamelessly running after their Former Colonial Masters. 60yrs later, Nigerians are scampering all over America and Europe seeking for a better life because obviously their Country's economy is nothing to write home about. 60+yrs later, most black African countries remain the poorest in the world, even with civil, communal and insecurity challenges. If it's not the Militant fighting today because of oil, it's the Congolese fighting because of oil as well. All over Africa, it's stories of civil war and communal fightings. But this is a Continent heavily blessed with raw materials, but a white man was very smart to arrive here, studied the black man and knew his weakness. Then handed him religion in exchange for its abundance natural resources. Ever since then, Africans have been preparing for the sky heaven, while Americans and Europeans have been looting Africa for their massive development (smart move). While Africans prioritized Religion which limits their thinking abilities, Europeans limited religion to enhanced their thinking abilities. It's well noted that most early technology evolution started from Africa, but amazingly, the Europeans came and learned the skills from Egypt, then went home and planned on how to conquer the world and they did it till date. I must give it to a white man that frankly, they are a smarter race. But that's not my point of emphasis, my emphasis is on us the current black people and most especially, our leaders. 60yrs after, African Leaders still cry like babies around Europe and Asia begging for loans, loans they will in-turn steal away via embezzlement. If shame was a person, it's surely 'Black' AFRICAN LEADERS. These same people were treated like a nobody during Queen Elizabeth's funeral, yet they never learn. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was pictured the other day paying the France President a visit. *My question is, why do we hardly see European or American leaders come to Africa or Nigeria for visits or vacation?* I'm sure you know we hardly witness that. Why is it always African leaders, especially Nigerian leaders that tour Europe and America monthly. Where is it written that European or Americans should never come to Africa. Oh I forgot that according to them, Africa is a dead trap zone due to the numerous communal and economic crisis. So they won't come. They don't need us anymore. They don't even like us from day one. It's just all about our resources. Why can't we have some dignity and self respect and learn to stay in our country/Continent just like our American, European and Asian Counterparts do. When shall African leaders learn to be independent and solve their problems within, instead of always crying running around American and Europe like babies. When shall black child be truly independent and free his/herself from this mental Slavery where he still idolizes everything from the white race, and demonizes everything from his own race? when? Why can't we be ashamed for once. *God created us all equal with same brain, but sadly, it seems the whites are utilizing theirs effectively to the development and advancement of mankind, while blacks are preparing to go to heaven* 😁 Now when our leaders are the ones running around Europe and America, how do they now think Nigerians won't also be running around Europe and America legally and illegally. What a shameless set of 'Black' African Leaders, especially Nigeria. Dear President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, learn to stay in your country, source for solutions to your country's problem internally. We are trying to promote equality of race, yet you still running after the whites like puppet. When we keep doing this, why won't they (whites) keep believing that they are a superior race, while we are inferior. But no, that's not the mindset I want to handover to my child, I want my child to grow up knowing he can equally impact the world like Philip Emeaghali, Elon Musk and any other race globally with his nativity intact. I want my child to grow up seeing himself as being equal to everyone on earth while still being proudly a black man. We are all global citizens with equal status, so as Europe and American Countries are solving their problems internally, African leaders, Nigeria especially must learnt to solve its problems internally too, have some shame my people. Else we'll continue handing over a low self-esteem mindset to our children and they grow up to still believe that whites are a superior race to ours. God forbid. A Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno, Hon. Smart Jaja, has instituted a Five Hundred Million Naira lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, 6th Battalion, Ibagwa, over wrongful arrest and detention. Jaja, an Aide to the Governor representing Ward 9 in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of the state, together with Elisha Pepple, Johnny Pepple, Noah Pepple, Obadiah Pepple and 32 other youths of Kampa Village of the LGA, are said to have been arrested on 10th September, 2024, by men of the Nigerian Army after being serially brutalized and wounded. They were taken to the Army Baracks at Ibagwa, Abak LGA, where they have allegedly been held behind bars for about 2 weeks without trial. "The Applicants are indigenes of Kampa Village in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of lbom State. They are members of the youth population of the said Village. The 1st Applicant is the serving SA (Special Assistant) to the Governor of Akwa lbom State representing Ward 9, Eastern Obolo LGA of Akwa lbom State." "The Applicants were arrested at night in the house of the 1st Applicant where they had gathered as a central take-off point for a peaceful protest at dawn against the unwholesome oil and gas exploration activities of Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited and their subsidiary/ partner - Natural Oil Services Limited." "The day before their arrest, the Applicants had stopped the oil company from driving out trucks loaded with crude oil extracted from Kampa Village. The youth demanded to know the authority given to the companies to transport crude by land and in anger and frustration, the companies deployed members of the Nigerian Army to come into the community and arrest the inquisitive youths", part of the Petition obtained by TheMail read. According to the Petition, Mr. Jaja's wife, Mbetobong Smart Jaja had on Monday, 16th September, 2024, visited the Ibagwa Barracks, where she learnt of grand conspiracy to 'eliminate' her husband, "for always demanding that the oil and gas exploration companies should follow due process and the law, in their activities, especially, the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). "Recently, the company (Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited and its subsidiary company and partner-Natural Oil Services Limited) brought tankers and loaded them with crude oil with intent to drive them out of the village. The youths of the community sought to know from them if they have the authorization of the Federal Government of Nigeria and of all other critical stakeholders in the petroleum industry to lift and transport RAW CRUDE in trucks by land." "The youths then stopped the vehicles for the time being while wailing for the needed explanation with documentary evidence. The youths also notified the security agencies of the attempt by some persons to drive RAW CRUDE out of the community in trucks. "The youths then thought it wise to raise awareness by way of a peaceful protest. They then came together in my husband's compound and wrote inscriptions on placard preparatory to their being used at the planned protest that was intended to draw attention of the government to the seemingly illegal action of the companies. While the preparations were being made, officers and men of the Nigerian Army arrived the compound and arrested everyone they could lay hands on". Mr. Jaja, through his Lawyer, Ekemini Udim, Esq., is praying the Court to declare that their arrest and detention by the Nigerian Army, is a violation of their rights to freedom of movement and personal liberty, guaranteed by Sections 35 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and therefore unlawful. Other Reliefs sought include "an order directing the Officer Commanding Wellington Bassey Military Barracks, lbagwa, to bring before this court for assessment of their physical states and wellbeing, without delay, the Applicants in this suit and all other persons in their custody that were arrested at Kampa Village of Eastern Obolo Local Guoernment Area of Akwa Ibom State on Thursday, 10th September, 2024." "The sum of N500,000,000. (Five Hundred Million) Naira as damages and compensation against the Respondents in favour of the Applicants." A well placed source in the community who doesn’t want his name on print said the protest was to draw attention to the continued environmental pollution pepetrated by the company against the community and its inhabitants. “Part of the facts is that it was the community youths led by Hon. Smart that alerted ‘Operation Delta Safe’ (OPDS) of the Nigerian Army about the lifting of crude oil in tankers. The OPDS responded and impounded four Tankers loaded with crude oil about to be taken out from Kampa. Sterling Global deployed the military personnel from Ibagwa who provide security at the company against OPDS resulting in a standoff that lasted more than three weeks. The planned protest was to draw attention to the situation and also to the environmental pollution of the community by the company. “But the protesters were arrested since 10th September at the instance of the company. Their continued illegal incarceration is to give the company, under the cover of the army, ample time to continue the oil bunkering. It is a terrible situation”, said our source. An audit report prepared by the internal auditors of the Nigeria Medical Association has indicted the former chairman of the Association in Akwa Ibom State, Prof Emem Abraham This is as senior officers in the medical prpfession in the state are desperately seeking to give her a soft landing. The report sighted by our correspondent in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday revealed damaging financial infections against the chairman Among the facts gleaned from the audit report includeu "Under-declaration of financial income from dues, non-declaration of some donations, lack of evidence of expenditure for monies received both by Dr Abraham and her excos on one hand and also monies received by her proxies in the guise of committee. "Apart from the financial discrepancies, also highlighted by the auditors was the expenditure of nearly seven million to establish a Creche before deciding to seek the services of a consultant for feasibility studies". The School declared an income of #35,000 prompting doctors in the State to question the economic sense and necessity of the expenditure. Others have alleged it the Creche was a conduit. The report further stated that Dr Abraham spent over nine million of unbudgeted funds in spite of the maximum one hundred thousand naira allowed by the NMA Akwa Ibom laws to be spent as unbudgeted funds. Furthermore the financial report presented by the Emem Abraham-led exco under-declared the dues from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital as #17,730,978 instead of #20,602,999.99 while instead of #18,302,000 gotten from the Hospital Management Board, it declared #16,005,000 as income from that source. Going through the report, one will find similar discrepancies in the declared financial income from dues collected from Ibom Specialist Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital, Anua. The auditors also found differences between the deposits made into the NMA endowment fund account as reported by the Financial report prepared by the exco and the actual deposits when compared with the bank statement According to the audit report there was no evidence for the most cases to show that the activities for which the financial transactions were made took place as receipts were not presented to the auditors neither were those transactions properly retired".

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, The Chairman, Senate Committee On Local Content, a first timer in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, has enjoyed the benevolence and magnanimity of the 10th senate through the leadership of the President Of The Senate, Godswill Akpabio. Senator Akpabio gender sensitiveness is non debatable. His all inclusiveness in the legislative business is glaringly clear for all to see. His love and respect for both the male and female legislators speaks volume, hence the overwhelming support he and the 10th National Assembly enjoys, especially as it concerns legislation. Good leaders deserve to be protected at all costs and at all times! Senator Natasha Akpoti, as a first timer and a non-member of the then ‘stability group’ who was not privileged to be a part of the inauguration of the 10th Assembly and was never a party to the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the President Of The Senate, was again privileged and chosen to be part of the delegation of Senator Akpabio to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in far away Tanzania. She enjoyed same honour Senator Akpabio was accorded during the inter-paliamentary engagement. The 10th Assembly has provided a leveled ground for women participation in the National Assembly of which, Senator Ireti Kingibe, is the Chairman, senate committee on Women Affairs and Vice Chairman, Senate committee on Poverty Alleviation & Social Welfare. Senator Akpabio, runs an all inclusive legislative leadership while prioritizing the needs of the people. It is important to note that, the President of the Senate was never against the motion raised by Senator Natasha Akpoti, rather, he sought to know the validity of the structure set up to manage the facility and government funds in deploying subsidized rates. And it is within his prerogative to do so. Let's stop the hate and campaign of calumny against the person of Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, he means well for our beloved country, Nigeria.

First of all, what do we mean by the term, front-End? In the world of software development, what’s built falls into two categories: everything that’s seen by the user and the processes happening in the background. What we see and interact with as the visitors of a website, or as the end-user of a mobile app, is considered front-end technology. All the behind-the-scenes activity that delivers the data and the speed with which that data is delivered falls into Back End Technology and DevOps. Front End Technologies in the Developer “Stack” The front end stack is made up of many different languages and libraries. While these vary from application to application, there are only a few generic languages understood by all web browsers. These three main front-end coding languages are HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Together, they create the underlying scaffolding that web browsers use to render the web pages that we interact with every day. All other libraries and front-end engineering are built upon these three main languages, which makes them must-have skills for any front-end developer. In fact, you can think of a webpage like a house. The initial UX design is the blueprint. HTML is the basic structure of the house. The CSS is the paint, fixtures, and other aesthetic decisions that make the house look attractive. And finally, JavaScript is the inner workings of the house (lights, heating, water) that we, the owner or renter, use and enjoy. What do we Mean by the term JavaScript Library There are a billion webpages, and many of them are interactive in some way - in fact, many of them are interactive in the same ways. Now, it's possible that every one of those web developers wrote their own JavaScript code to make a slideshow, but a lot of them probably re-used the same code. As programmers, we should re-use existing code when we can, so that we don't waste our time writing code that another programmer has already written. In JavaScript, the way we do that is by using a library. A library is a JavaScript file that contains a bunch of functions, and those functions accomplish some useful task for your webpage. How do we know what functions we can use? We could look at the JavaScript file, if it's short, or better, we could look at the documentation. Most libraries have documentation with a list of available functions or a real-world example. When a programmer creates a JS library and puts it out into the world, they're purposefully deciding to share it with the world - so that often means they put in the effort to come up with great documentation and examples. Perhaps one day I will also create a library of some functionality that I will find really useful and share it with the world. Introduction to ReactJS ReactJS is a JavaScript library used for building user interfaces. It was developed by Facebook and is currently maintained by Facebook and a community of individul developers and companies. Here's everything you need to know about ReactJS: 1. Key Features: - Component-Based: ReactJS follows a component-based approach where the UI is divided into reusable, self-contained components. Each component manages its own state, allowing developers to build complex UIs. - Virtual DOM: React uses a virtual DOM (Document Object Model) to optimize rendering performance. It creates a lightweight in-memory representation of the actual DOM, allowing React to efficiently update only the necessary parts of the UI. - JSX: React uses JSX (JavaScript XML), an extension to JavaScript syntax, to define components' structure and appearance. JSX allows developers to write HTML-like code within JavaScript, making it easier to build and render components. 2. Component Lifecycle: - Mounting: These methods are called when an instance of a component is being created and inserted into the DOM. - Updating: These methods are called when a component is being re-rendered due to changes in state or props. - Unmounting: This method is called when a component is being removed from the DOM. React provides lifecycle methods such as componentDidMount, componentDidUpdate, componentWillUnmount, etc., which developers can use to control component behavior. 3. React Hooks: React Hooks were introduced in React 16.8. They are functions that allow developers to use state and other React features in functional components, which were previously only available in class components. useState, useEffect, useContext are some commonly used hooks. 4. State Management: React manages application state within individual components using the 'state' object. State represents the data that can change over time. React's one-way data flow allows for a predictable state management system. 5. React Router: React Router is a popular library for handling routing in React applications. It allows developers to define routes and their corresponding components so that the application can navigate to different views based on the URL. 6. React Native: React Native is a framework for building native mobile applications using React. It allows developers to write code in React and target multiple platforms, such as iOS and Android, with native performance. 7. Testing React: React applications can be tested using various testing frameworks like Jest, Enzyme, or React Testing Library. These frameworks provide utilities to write unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests for React components and applications. 8. Community and Ecosystem: ReactJS has a vast community and ecosystem of libraries and tools developed around it. Some notable libraries include Redux for predictable state management, Axios for making HTTP requests, and Material-UI for UI component libraries. 9. Learning Resources: There are numerous resources available to learn ReactJS, including official documentation, tutorials, online courses, and books. Some popular learning platforms include React's official website, FreeCodeCamp, Udemy, and Pluralsight. ReactJS has gained immense popularity due to its simplicity, performance, and reusability. It is widely used by developers and companies to build scalable and interactive user interfaces. Introduction to VueJS At the outset, Vue.js is a progressive framework for JavaScript that is primarily used for developing web interfaces and one-page applications. Besides these, the framework is also used for the development of mobile and desktop apps when used in combination with the Electron framework. What sets Vue.js apart from its competitors is the fact that unlike the majority of monolithic frameworks, Vue has an incremental build model. As a result, the core library besides being solely committed to its viewer layer also allows for seamless integration with other existing projects or libraries. Additionally, when used in tandem with supporting libraries and modern tooling, Vue can also be used to power Single-Page Applications with ease. What is it used for? 1. In most cases, Vue.js is used for the development of web interfaces and Single-Page Applications. However, in the latter case, you want to couple it with modern tooling and supporting libraries in order to ensure greater efficiency. 2. When used with the Electron framework, it can be used to build mobile and web applications. 3. Thanks to the high decoupling of the framework, programmers prefer using Vue for creating UIs (User Interfaces). Pros of Vue.js 1. Simplicity: The primary reason why Vue.js has now become immensely popular among front-end developers is because of its immense simplicity. It lets the programmers achieve exceedingly good results on the back of very few lines of code. Moreover, it emerges as the tool of choice when it comes to working with components on account of it requiring minimal overhead. 2. Integration: When using Vue, developers get the liberty of effortlessly integrating it with other frameworks like React. In the process, it enables them to customize their projects in accordance with their requirements. This ease of integration has now resulted in Vue emerging as an extremely popular choice for web development, with programmers vouching for its compatibility with a large number of web applications. Further, since Vue’s backend is built on JavaScript, it gives developers the cushion of experimenting with various other JavaScript applications. Last but not the least, its MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) architecture lets you handle HTML blocks without skipping a beat. 3. User-Friendliness: Vue.js doesn’t entail a steep learning curve which makes it extremely appealing for new and amateur programmers. As prerequisites, it only requires interested learners to be familiar with only the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This is in sharp contrast to the journey which one undertakes while attempting to learn Angular and React wherein the programmers are needed to be proficient in other programming languages as well. 4. Minimal Restrictions: The inherent design of the Vue.js framework is such that it poses very few restrictions to the developers. Subsequently, it accords them a greater level of flexibility to wrap up their projects. Moreover, as they are able to avail of multiple libraries within the framework, programmers find themselves scripting different solutions to a particular problem statement. 5. Documentation: Vue.js boasts of incredibly comprehensive and extensive documentation which makes life easy for beginners and enthusiasts. Essentially, it provides amateur programmers with the confidence to attempt complex problem statements even when they have limited resources at their disposal. Cons of Vue.js 1. Small Community: Vue.js is the proverbial new kid on the block, meaning it is evolving and updating with every passing day. Hence, it is not as popular as the other JS frameworks in the fray, notably Angular and React. Further, most of Vue’s code has been scripted in the Chinese language which subsequently poses difficulties for many users, primarily English-speaking ones. 2. Overflexible: On occasions, more than one, Vue.js has often been accused of being over flexible. Agreed, it does earn quite a few brownie points for its flexibility, but it often tends to cross the line which causes trouble in projects that have a large number of developers involved. Overflexibility breeds irregularity and errors which can ultimately lead to projects getting delayed. Moreover, it also causes the cost of development to shoot up. 3. Lesser Plugins: Developers often seek out common plugins while working on various tools for it aids the development process. The lack of such plugins in Vue.js is a major drawback. Why should we use Vue.js? The following reasons highlight why more and more modern-day front-end developers are switching to Vue.js these days. 1. It is scalable and flexible. 2. It provides a lot of built-in solutions. 3. Apps made with Vue are easier to update, hence future-proof. 4. It is developer-friendly. 5. Vue apps are smaller in size and tend to be more performant in general. The way ahead for Vue.js Vue is already being touted by many to become the most preferred JavaScript framework in the near future. A recent survey by Stackoverflow which named React and Vue as the most wanted and loved JavaScript frameworks among developers further validates this sentiment. Sure, it may not have a large and thriving community in the present, but that is only going to get better with time as more and more developers start including it in their projects. ReactJS vs VueJs: My Analysis ReactJS and VueJS are two popular JavaScript frameworks used for building user interfaces. While they have some similarities, they also have some key differences. 1. Learning Curve: ReactJS has a steeper learning curve compared to VueJS. React has a more complex ecosystem with a larger number of concepts to learn, such as JSX and Redux. Vue, on the other hand, is easier to understand and get started with, making it a good choice for beginners. 2. Size and Performance: ReactJS is smaller in size compared to VueJS. React focuses on being a lean library, allowing developers to choose additional packages as needed. VueJS, on the other hand, is a full-featured framework with built-in tools, resulting in a slightly larger bundle size. In terms of performance, both frameworks are fast and efficient, but Vue tends to have better performance out of the box. 3. Community and Ecosystem: ReactJS has a larger community and a more mature ecosystem compared to VueJS. This means that there are more resources, tutorials, and libraries available for React developers. React is backed by Facebook and has been adopted by many large companies. VueJS, while growing rapidly, has a smaller community but is gaining popularity quickly. 4. Flexibility: ReactJS provides developers with a lot of flexibility and allows them to make more decisions about how to structure their code. This can be an advantage for experienced developers who prefer more control. VueJS, on the other hand, has a more opinionated structure and enforces certain conventions, making it easier for beginners and teams to collaborate. 5. Syntax and JSX: ReactJS uses JSX, a syntax extension that allows developers to write HTML-like code within JavaScript. JSX can be powerful but has a learning curve and can feel unfamiliar to some developers. VueJS, on the other hand, uses a template-based syntax which is more similar to traditional HTML and may be easier to understand for beginners. 6. Integration: Both ReactJS and VueJS can be easily integrated into existing projects. React can be incrementally adopted by adding components to part of an existing application, while Vue can be integrated into an existing page by targeting a specific element. SUMMARY In summary, while ReactJS and VueJS are both powerful frameworks for building user interfaces, React is known for its flexibility and mature ecosystem, while Vue is praised for its simplicity and ease of use. The choice between the two depends on the specific needs of the project and the experience level of the developers involved. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has impeached Dr. Emem Abraham, the Chairman, and Dr. Aniekan Utuk, the Vice Chairman, on charges of abuse of office, misuse of funds, and high-handedness. The impeachment of Dr. Abraham and Dr. Utuk took place on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the NMA Secretariat, Kilometer 8 Nwaniba road, during an Ordinary General Congress. The ousted chairman, Dr. Abraham, and his executive were sworn in on July 16, 2022, and were supposed to serve until July 17, 2024, before the impeachment. In the wake of the impeachment, a motion was put forward and accepted by Congress to appoint Dr. Usenobong Morgan, the Association's Secretary, as the Acting Chairman. This decision was ratified by a vote of 61 in favor and 13 against. Giving a briefing to the press on Monday, June 3 at the Doctor's Mess, Dr. Morgan revealed that the impeached Chairman and Vice Chairman were removed from their positions after five months of running the NMA Akwa Ibom State without a budget while spending millions of naira. Furthermore, they presented a financial statement for a free medical outreach that only accounted for six million naira out of a total of thirty-four million naira. Dr. Morgan also listed other reasons for the impeachment, including violations of the NMA National Constitution and Akwa Ibom State Bye-laws, unjustifiably removing members from the association's WhatsApp group, discrepancies in committee reports, failure to provide income details for the NMA Creche, high-handedness, impersonating the Secretary in official communication, and illegally suspending key figures within the association. Additionally, Dr. Morgan called for the immediate withdrawal of privileges and recognition bestowed on the impeached Chairman and Vice Chairman, emphasizing the importance of informing the public about the leadership changes within the association. "As the Secretary of the NMA, I have assumed the role of Acting Chairman following the impeachment of the Chairman and Vice Chairman. I am here to notify everyone that this change has occurred and to request that, in accordance with the congress resolution, all forms of recognition and privileges conferred upon the suspended individuals should cease and be withdrawn, as the congress has appointed me as the Acting Chairman," he stated.
